  • Error message "bad check sum" on Satellite pro 6100 when starting up

I recently tried to turn my laptop on when i got the message "bad check sum"(i think it said that) "check system press[f1] to continue. After i pressed f1 it came up an options screen i didnt do anything to it and just continued then it loaded and shut down again. also i have to lie the laptop on its back just for the first green LED to come on and when i have the battery in the charger does not charge the battery and even when it does start to charge and i try to put it on the same sequence of orange LED's appear .
so what does the message bad check sum mean ?
    thanks

    Hi,
That means that the cmos (bios) battery is low on power and you should hang your machine for minimum a day on AC because the bios battery loads then.
Such error appears when your cmos batt. is not full then the bios losts his settings and the checksum which would be performed by the system at startup will be faulty since the bios needs a check to know if everything is OK.
Its a security feature which indicates if your hardware is ok or not. If the error appears more than once, then you should bring your machine to a technician or at least a local servicepartner for a checkup.

  • Bios rom check sum

When I turn on my computer it says, bios rom check sum. I know nothing about computers and I would like any advice please thank you

Assuming this came up and there was no fiddling with the PC before this, then either the BIOS has been corrupted or there is another hardware problem.  I would first try to replace the CMOS battery, then if that does not work, it might be time to consider replacing the motherboard or the whole PC.  The spec page for that PC says it is from late 2007, which if the CMOS battery was never changed, then that might be the problem.

  • Satellite A100 - Windows and BIOS doesn't start after BIOS update

Hello, I have updatet BIOS of my notebook sattelite A100.
After updating I cannot start my notebook and BIOS doesn't start.

Hey guys... I tried to update my girlfriend's BIOS on a A100 just now (the windows installer) and the procedure stoped in the middle because windows crashed while doing. Now the laptop won't start at all (obviously). I have a black screen when turning it on. No boot sounds or anything. I've already removed the AC power source and battery in case that works. I guess removing the BIOS battery won't help either since the flashing was wrong... In case that doesn't work, is there any chance i could find a BIOS from ebay or somewhere else?
    Thx in advance, Jimmy..
PS. My gf is going to shoot my brains out :P

  • Satellite A350 doesn't start - BIOS failure or mainboard crash?

Hello, at first, sorry for my english:).
I have Toshiba Satellite A350-13A model and really big trouble with it: when I switch it on by the power button, power lamp is starting to shine, I can hear voice of fan for a secound - then it stops and i notice that HDD is starting to work - I can hear it and see by flashing lamp next to battery lamp, CD drive is working too, but nothing else happens. There's nothing on monitor. It looks like bios isn't starting. Let me explain what have I been doing when it all started. My computer has been working correctly but there have been a little mess on my HDD so I recovered system from recovery CDs, which I've made after buying computer. Everything was ok, system works correctly, so I started to install my software. I didn't uninstall this factory-installed program for system optimizing which is (I can't remember it's name now, but I mean this program which shows you updating for your drivers - I remember that there were updates for face recognition, video etc.) I installed all of updates that this program shows, including BIOS update. When I was done with installing these updates, I noticed that my keyboard is not working - with any button.
By the time, windows ended to doing it's update, so I switched "Turn on system again" from the windows start menu by the mouse. Then system closed itself, I saw that windows is updating itself like it always do after downloading updates, but when it all came to the end and computer should turn off and on again, I saw white screen. Computer did not restart despite I was waiting for few minutes. I switched computer off by holding power button and turned it on again. Then it didn't stand up and it's like that for now. What could happen? Is that caused by update of BIOS that I made? Or is that possible that motherboard is crashed? I think that this is connected with bios, in fact with it's absence :) But when I switch on comupter, keyboard is still not working - i can see it, because green light should appear on CAPS LOCK button when i hit it if there's a power on, even if bios isn't working. Am I right? Is there any possible to get BIOS back to fabric configuration? I'm quite confused because i have it for only two months - it's like new. I'm excluding malfunction of monitor.
I hope anybody of you had a problem like this and there is possible solution for it. My computer is still on warranty.

Hi, thanks for your answers. I've tried metod from you, benvanderjagt, to start system in the Crisis Recovery Mode and I think that it already works for my, that's a good sign. When I'm getting my battery and power cable off, clicking and holding Fn+B nad switching on power cable, there's a short lighting from power lamp. Then when I'm turning computer on, I can hear that fan is working constantly - antagonise to previous situation, when I was turning it on and just hearing short signal that fan, HDD and CDROM are working - all of theese were working for few seconds and stopping. I think that's a signal that this is really bios, not motherboard problem.
I also think that using your method, benvanderjagt, should repear my bios but i'll rather try going to the service to be sure that my guarantee will be still working after this tragical moment :)
Nearest toshiba's service which I've called to today looks quite adverse - they didn't even ask me what's wrong with my laptop and there was no chance to say that, in 30 seconds talk I just got information how to send my laptop to them by DHL courier, I've not even been informed which parts do they want - I'll go there by myself with all package.

  • After BIOS update Cannot start my Satellite L305-S5885

Last night I've update the BIOS of my notebook, but when the BIOS flashing finished, it restarted Windows. The machine could not start again. The CD/DVD device enter in a cicle with a yellow light, and in the screen does not appear anything. Can somebody help me to solve this problem.
    Old Bios: v1.40
    New Bios: v1.50
    OS: Windows XP with SP3
I can't use the CD/DVD device to boot with a Win PE.
    Thanks

    Hello!
I think the BIOS was not successfully because your notebook doesnt boot again.
In this case you cant make a lot of.
Try this: Remove the battery and AC/DC adaptor, wait up to 1 hour and then connect the battery and AC/DC adaptor. Try it again and hope it works.
If it not works you should contact a local ASP. In worst case the mainboard must be exchanged :(

  • Starting BIOS first time after build with X99S Sli plus

Is there a tutorial for the basic BIOS set up for this mobo?  I want to just set the computer to boot up tfrom my ssd.  Is there anything else I have to do in BIOS  before I load Windows 8.1?  I don't want to get into overclocking, just the basics.  Should I try to connect the computer to the internet right after I change the boot drive priority in BIOS? I'm thinking automatic updates to the BIOS via The Web.

If you mean using Live Update to flash your bios, be sure you updated to the latest Live Update version, and before flash the bios, be sure the bios does for your motherboard

  • T61 at boot everytime enters BIOS (unable to skip BIOS)

    I have a T61 with Windows 7 64 bits installed,
T61 did work fine for several months untill last week,
but now when booting immediately after the message to enter BIOS press F1 there is a message entering BIOS setup and then BIOS windows appears, by pressing F10 or ESC Windows 7 starts without reporting problems,
apparently there are no errors reported and I am unable to understand why BIOS setup window appears,
I did several attempts to restore BIOS to default values etc. (hoping to avoid the reported problem) without success,
when booting T61 enters everytime the BIOS Windows and I have to press Esc or F10 to continue normal boot,
How can I restore the original behaviour (i.e. booting without entering BIOS windows) ?
Has someone experienced a similar problem and found a solution ?
    Thank you for help.

Have you checked the date and time to make sure they're correct?
They will enter bios if the date isn't set or if the cmos battery is bad, but I've never seen a T61 behave like this otherwise.

  • Check Sum Error A215-7427

I have developed a new problem. Almost every time I start up the computer I get a check sum error. At first it would not come up at all, now it will after pushing <F1>, or going into bios. If I shut the computer down and immediately boot it up, there is no error. I have had a system battery error, but it doesn't appear very often and the date is correct.
Other symptoms include the battery level in the system tray always shows 100%, and plugged in, no matter what state it is in. The Fn key no longer brings the options down, nor does it put the computer to sleep with <FN><F4>. I have the computer set to put it to sleep when I close the cover, but that does occur either. When I put it to sleep, and open the cover it boots, gives me the check sum error and then tells me that windows did not shut down right.

You have multiple problems and probably are going to need multiple solutions.
Checksum errors are typically caused by settings in the Bios or the RAM. Make sure that you have the latest Bios. Next, go into the Bios and set the Bios to its default, Save & Exit. See if that takes care of the Checksum error. If not, look at your RAM. Remove one module, leave the other one in and see if that takes care of the Checksum error. If not, switch the RAM and try again.
Are you sure that the computer set to go to sleep when the lid is closed? Go to Control Panel. Click on the Power Options icon and then click on Change plan settings under whichever power plan that you are using. Now click on the "Change advanced power settings" link toward the bottom of the window. A new window will open. Click on the plus sign (+) to the left of Power buttons and lid. Finally click on the plus sign (+) next to Lid close action.  Verify that the computer is really set to go to Sleep when the lid is closed. If not, hit the down arrow to select Sleep mode, click the Apply and OK buttons at the bottom of the screen and the sleep problem should be gone. If not, you probably have a Windows problem and may have to reinstall the operating system.
The FN key combinations are run thru the Toshiba Value Added Package for Windows Vista. Reload the program and try again. The program is on your Recovery CDs and this website.

  • Msi-6390:cmos check sum error

    please help me:
    i bought a 6390-msi motherboard.
the problem is that when i start the system after checking the ram and cpu (it understand the correct cpu and the correct amount of ram) this message appear:
    "Cmos check sum error.loaded default"
and when ever i change any thing in the setup program and save the changes (for example changing the boot sequence in the bios features) the system doesnt boot again and i have to clear the cmos by changing the jumpers.
i asked some expert ,they said maybe the problem is the battery ..but i changed the battery but the problem is still appear.
    please help me ...
    thx :(

There's a slight chance that you got a dud battery, or dirty contacts on the battery holder.
Check the battery voltage reading in the BIOS settings - it should be at least 3.0V (a fresh battery should be around 3.2V).
As I said, it's only a slight chance that it's the above problem, but when the obvious solutions don't work, you have to explore the more obscure choices.
    Cheers

    How to Flash MSI Guides.
There are different ways to flash the bios but to keep things simple will concentrate on the MSI Official methods :-
    1) Award Flash BIOS Procedure 98/ME
This method assumes access to hd formatted using FAT32 & therefore readable by DOS.
    2) Flashing the BIOS for Users using NON FAT file system
For use with Linux based & NTFS File systems - HD Not readable from DOS.  Using this procedure the  the files are copied to the virtual drive before running the flash utility. So the flash effectively is all done in memory.
This will be the method used by the majority of us. So:-
Follow the instructions in the last link (Thanks Bas)
The details below are additional checks/notes referring to the steps in Bas's guide, which may be useful.
    Essential
    2) Know Your model number  - Is of increased Importance for NEO4 users - We have already seen instances of this.
5-1) Ensure you have a Boot Floppy with CD suport (this creates the Virtual drive used in the process) If you haven't got such
a boot disc see BootrDisc.com link in Rescources.
5-2) B4 booting floppy - Enter Bios & Load Optimised Defaults - To ensure that bios is returned to stock & any overclocking is
    turned off.
    7) If you miss the ramdrive letter the last DOS message will show your CD drive letter. The Ramdrive is the letter preceeding
the CD Drive. EG CD = D Ramdrive = C
Optional - Gives better control of procedure
    11) Use of Switch command options with AWFL833C.EXE /py/sn/wb/cc/cd/cp/r TargetBios.file
Personnaly I use the switches as does Syar :-
    Per Syar2003 Iv'e always used :
    AWFL833D W7030NMS.xxx /py/sn/wb/cc/cd/cp/r
    or
    AWFL833D W7030NMS.xxx /py/sn/wb/cc/cd/cp/f/r
And a hard reset with jumper when done .
For a more detailed explanation of switches see :-
    Syar's Bios Switch Explained
    or Syar's Bios Collection - Flashing.txt
See Also Using a Batch File to Automate bios flash
    12) after flash , enter Bios & load optimized defaults , then save + exit with no other change .
That way you have a fresh system with a fresh non problematic dmi-pool and user settings .
After this Enter Bios & Re-enter your custom settings.
From Syar - Which one do I do first?

Always Load Optimised defaults & Save b4 flashing - NEVER FLASH When running an OC or Unstable.
If you need to flash & are worried about stability - run with a single module & test it it memtest 1st.
    FLASH METHODS
    1) Winflash (Syar2003) -
Winflash is safe to use if your windows and pc is stable .
How to get it Download & install MSI Live Update. Winflash is located "C:\Program Files\MSI\Live Update 3\FlashUty\Award
And as with dos flash reset bios and any overclocking to "load optimized bios default" + save, before and after flashing.
After winflash is finished it ask if you want to reboot - answer no , and shutdown (turn off) windows/pc instead .
After that disconnect the PSU's AC and reset the cmos with the jumper on the board .
This is how I use it , - safest way .

  • Bios Download failed, corrupting bios; machine will not boot up

My unit -Lonovo 3000 K100 57068352; Vista OS.
on 10/12/09 I downloaded Bios; 2skg33a; released by Mar coGU; Release date 2009, 2, 27; based on Bios 2skg31a.  The download went smooth, and reported everything completed.  I rebooted the machine, and it will boot until the OS reaches the beginning of the start page, then recycles to the start.
I have done a complete recovery of my system and this doesn't help.  It does the same thing.  I believe the Bios are corrupted and is not part of the Hard Disk system.
I need to be able to download the original Bios for this machine.
Can anyone help?  My machine is not usable without a correct Bios.
    Thanks for any help.

Did u download the correct one? I checked this page and found there are 2 different bios available for different bios ID.
Flash BIOS update (BIOS ID: 2SKG)
Flash BIOS update (BIOS ID: 2SKT)
Also, i saw the release date is 2009-03-25, and the download link showed the text as 2SJG33A and not the one with K. Where did u download actually?
Btw, U have to check ur bios ID before installing the correct ones. Follow the description in the page for steps to check the ID.
