PCIe 7842r to SCB-68A

Hi,
I have brought a PCIe 7842r, and it comes with the SCB 68A as the connector block.
I wanna use the connector block for analog input and digital output, so I connected the pin68 and pin 67 with two wires. The pin 68 and pin 67 on SCB68A corresponds to the AI+ and AI- on the PCIe 7842r too, so it fits perfectly.
Next step,  I want to use the PCIe 7842r to make a digital output, and I plan to use pin 36 and pin 2, which corresponds to DIO0 and DGND.
However, the pin 36 and pin2 on the SCB68A is DGND and PFI14, which doesnt match with the output from the PCIe 7842r.
Is there any suggestion for tackling this problem?
Best,
Matthew

If you look at the label on that page closely, you will see that it is for M and X Series DAQ Devices.  You should read the section on using the SCB-68A as a Direct Feedthough (page 14) and use the label I linked to eariler for your R Series card.

  • PCIe 7852R and SCB-68 connectivity

    1) NI SCHC68-68-EPM compatable with this R series board to connect digital lines (connector 1 and 2) to SCB-68A? The recommended NI SHC-68-68-RDIO is only 1m and would be of great inconvenience.
    2) I want to ultimately connect the PCIe 7852R card analog+digital inputs and outputs to BNC (50 Ohm) breakout box. Does the SCB-68A terminal block provide any advantages over using unterminated cable such as SCH-68-NT-S directly?
    3) How would I go about impedance matching the I/O from the FPGA to the BNCs?
    Thanks!

    Hi pobedil,
    1. The NI SCH-68-68-RDIO is the only supported cable for connectors 1 and 2 of the PCIe-7852R.  The cable was specifically designed for the high performance and bandwidth of the R Series cards, and the length of the cable is specific for the impedance matching.
    2. The main benefit of using a terminal block such as the SCB-68A is its ready-to-use access to each of the cable's pins via screw terminals.  If you wanted to create your own harness for the pins, the unterminated cable would be fine, but it requires you to make your own custom wiring scheme.

  • How should Sensirion SHT71 be wired to SCB-68A connector block?

    Hi all,
I just got a Sensirion SHT71 for humidity measurement. I am new to digital I/O field so I feel unclear about how to connect this sensor to the DAQ.
The DAQ I am using is PXI-6225 hooked up with a SCB-68A connector block.
And the sensor has 4 pins (1-SCK: Serial Clock, 2-VDD: Source Voltage, 3-GND, 4-DATA (bidirectional))
Detailed manual can be found here http://www.sensirion.com/nc/en/products/humidity-temperature/download-center/?cid=8574&did=68&sechas...
So I am wondering what are the corresponding connectors on SCB-68A to those pins of the sensor. I can see the GND goes to the D GND for sure and the VDD is supposed to be connected to +5V. And I am not sure to which two connectors SCK and DATA should connect...
Reference label of SCB-68A can be found here: http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/$CXIV/ATTACH-AEEE-8ZRTL5/$FILE/S_Series.pdf
    Thanks.

    Hello abright,
I have been looking at your case the whole day, analizing the circuitry of your application.
From what i can tell from the Reference label of SCB-68A : http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/$CXIV/ATTACH-AEEE-8ZRTL5/$FILE/S_Series.pdf and the user manual: http://www.ni.com/pdf/manuals/375865a.pdf and the datasheet of your sensor, I can see that the output is a current signal. there we must create a simple circuit so that the DAQ device can be able to read the values. From what I can see of the datasheet, the output is digital therefore we need a Digital input to read the measurements, therefore on page 4-9 and page 4-10 of the user manual you can see the circuitry used to read digital inputs of a sensor. therefore what we can try to do is connect the sensor output to a a resistor in order to see the output voltage across this resistor. Simple Ohm's Law V=RI.   Therefore you can see wherethe DATA which will be the output pin will be connected to pin 11. As for  the SCK  it is only used to sync the sensor to the measurement device, therefore I would assume that pin 10 which corresponds to PFI 1/AI REF TRIG which will be the reference trigger will be used to sync both of devices in case you need this configuration. VDD will be the source of energy for the sensor. i would suggest not to use the full 5V, I can recall seeing something like this on the web about not connecting the sensor to the full 5V. and GND is the reference voltage. For the pin out configuration please check the Figure 4-13. SCB-68A Circuit Diagram for Digital Input Attenuation on the user's manual.
If you have further questions regarding the pin out of the device please let me know.

    Hi Fazi,
The SCB-68 has pinout labels for E-series DAQ cards while the NI PCI-6221 is one of the newer M-series DAQ cards.  The Single Two-Signal Edge-Separation Measurement you want to take is possible with your card.  Below is a KnowledgeBase article which gives the SCB-68 pinouts for M-series cards. Thanks for the manual. Youll need to set up the jumpers for external modulation and laser enable as shown in section II of the manual.
On you 15 pin connector you will need to wire pin 4 to pin 5. This will enable the laser. Later, once you can verify modulation, maybe we can use the DAQ card to control the on/off.
You made mention of DACOUT0 and AOGND, these look like the signals you need to connect- DACOUT0 wired to pin 8 (EXT MOD) and AOGND to pin 7 (GND).
NOTE: Looks like 0V into the laser is no power, 1.350V into it is full power, so do not exceed 1.350V when commanding the analog output voltage.
Hopefully this should get you started. Wear the proper wavelength laser safety goggles.

  • 求助PCI-6281

    利用新装的PCI-6281采集卡/CB-68LP。配置一切顺利。可是采集数据的时候,无法进行,显示错误为
VI "DAQmx Create Channel.vi" was stopped at node 0xA10 of subvi "DAQmx Create AI Channel(sub).vi"
    输出模拟信号很正常。请问是怎么回事啊,谢谢

That makes sense.  So, here's my issue...
I need to sample at least 6 channels at 10kHz (For my DEI MotionPak accelerometer).  There's no doubt I will have to incorporate anti-aliasing filters as the 40kHz filter won't be adequate.  I don't have the option of spending any more $ on something fancier like a dynamic signal analyzer so I need to try to get the 6281 to work for my DEI MotionPak accelerometer.
I have an SCB-68A so my plan is to put the filters there using the built in RC filter pads.
With the lowpass filter disabled, the settling time is stated to be 8us per channel.
10kHz * 6 channels equates to about 20us of potential settling time per challel.  So it seems like this should be more than adequate.
But, the 6281 manual claims the source impedance should be 1kOhm or less.  My external filters will be either Fc = 1kHz or Fc = 2.5kHz.  The chart in the 6281 specs doesn't really match the table which claims 8us for no-filter settling time.  But if I read the chart correctly to hit +/-4ppm of step at 20us, my filter should't use a resistor greater than about 4k?  Am I interpreting that properly?
    Thanks!

  • How to reduce the noise in PCIe-6321 acquisition, to optimize wiring.

    Hi all,
I want to optimize my wiring in term of noise reduction. I use a DAQ PCIe-6321 in my application. I want to acquire an analog signal from a sensor (+/- 4 Volts, resolution of 2 mV, output impedance of 100 ohms) using the DAQ. The frequency of the signal is below 2 kHz. My first question is about the most suitable cable to use (shielded, twisted, etc.)? What is also the best suitable input configuration to choose in Labview (differential, RSE or NRSE)?
Moreover, after processing of this data under Labview, I want to power an audio power amplifier (input impedance equal to 10 kohms) using the analog output of the DAQ. What is the most suitable cable to use to reduce the noise? Are there any other tips to optimize the wiring?
Thank you for your help and suggestions!

    Hi guys,
I know that it is a bit late to reply but that is the perfect topic for what I am looking for!
I am currently working with acquisition systems using either PCI-6221 or PCIe-6321. Those systems are exactly the same but the results are different (see picture enclosed). We can see spikes and noise with the PCIe-6321 while we have the same conditions of measurements.
    Here is the NI setup:
    - PCI-6221 + connector block CB-68LP + cable SHC68-68-EPM
    - PCIe-6321 + connector block SCB-68A + cable SHC68-68-EPM
In one of the system equipped with PCIe-6321, I replaced all the devices like cables, detectors, motors and it doesn’t change anything. I also swapped the computer for one equipped with PCI-6221 and it works fine. It means that the problem really comes from the acquisition card.
So my question is: why is there such a difference between those models? Do I need to change the configuration in the card?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Pci 6601 for decoding renishaw and new encoder

it works great for determing the position of the renishaw.
    the renishaw encoder type is
    rgh24x30a00a
    http://www.renishaw.com/en/rgh24-linear-encoder-system--6444
i would like to try the pci 6601 on a similar encoder.
With this new encoder, im not seeing any output from the pci 6601.
I can see the pulses on the oscilloscope so im alittle confused.
The pulses appear center around 2.5 volts and are around 1v in amplitude.
In the same manner as with the renishaw, B- goes to counter 0 aux, a- to 0 source, and grond to ground.
I believe the particular renishaw has a 1v peak to peak sinusoid pair (sin / cos).
The new servo has a build in encoder with one volt peak to peak sinsuoid centered at 2.5v.
Any ideas on why no counter number is showing?
Message Edited by jimmyinct3 on 11-14-2009 05:57 PM

If the signal is centered around 2.5V as mentioned, then it sounds like you will have difficulty meeting the TTL thresholds for hi/low. A TTL input signal is defined as "low" when between 0 V and 0.8 V with respect to the ground termina...  Scope both encoders and compare the signals that you are seeing on both.  What are the differences?

  • Can I make a simple voltage recording when SCB-68 is configured for Cold Junction Compensation?

    Hi everyone,
I am using a 6221 PCI card and SCB-68 connection module. I have set the SCB-68 module switches so that the 5 thermocouples I have connected between AI1 and AI5 are using the Cold Junction Compensation of AI0. Everything works fine.
Could someone tell me if the differential inputs left AI6 and AI7 can be used for recording another kind of sensor (nothing to do with a thermocouple) ? I suppose I just need to set those 2 inputs to a simple voltage recording function? The previous switches settings enable to do this simple recording ?

    Hi Bruce,
Thanks for your answer and your advice. So I will use my free channels for other sensors.
Concerning your other remarks , I have planned setting the DAQ assitant at 100 samples and 1KHz for the thermocuples. Making an average of the 100 samples for each channel gives a good result from what I have seen in my last test. After this, with another DAQ assistant I am making some other kind of recording at another speed. I know this is not optimized using DAQ Assistant but loss of time and simultanity isn't a problem for me in this project.
However if I had used only one DAQ Assistant for my thermocouples and for the other sensors, a part from the rate vs thermocouples problem, not having the same ranges could have been a problem?
I also don't understand the channel order you mentioned. Still using a DAQ Assistant in what way would this effetc the measures?

  • How to send signal out from PCI 6010

I'm using signal express 2010 liecensed version. Now I want to create an AC signal and send it via NI PCI 6010 to servo motor. I tried many time, but it does not work. I click the  example, signal express is automatically closed. Pls help.

I'm using signal express 2010 to create an AC signal. The AC signal is created initially. Now I want to send it via NI PCI 6010 to control pulse width modulation, for example. The problem is: i cannot get the connection diagram. I don't know how to use the help. Everytime I tried to open the example files, the signal express off itself automatically. Its a licensed version.
I need examples to know how to create a signal, then send it via Analog Output. I don't get the CB-37F-LP Quick Reference Label in internet. So I don't know which pin is given for AO1 and AO2.
I'm also using another computer with signal express 2009, PCI 6221 with SCB -68 connector. The connector has legend to tell which pin is given for analog output. Whereas the  CB-37F-LP has nothing to indicate the connections. However the NI PCI 6010 can acquire signal as I have tried in few cases.
Now I need an example to know : HOW TO CREATE A SIGNAL AND SEND IT VIA ANALOG OUTPUT.

  • PXI R Series PWM Behavior

    Hello,
I created a simple PWM using a PXI 7851R and it was working fine for the past month or so however now it is behaving oddly.  Previously if I provided a min and max output, the generated pulse would be between those two values.  Now what is happening is the generated pulse is always centered over zero with a min and max value equal to half the range between my entered values.  So for example if I wanted a pwm signal from 0-6V, I previously would enter a min of 0V and max of 6V but now that results in a signal from -3 to 3 "[ (6V-0V) / 2 ]".  As you can see in the snippet, all I'm doing is updating the AO channel with the max value, waiting, then updating it with the min value so I can't figure out why it is behaving this way.  I'm using an SCB-68A connector block so I thought maybe the switch settings got messed up but they appear to be set to direct feedthrough.  Any ideas why this is occurring?

  • Encoder

    Hi,
I have built a fixture to read stop time of a saw blade after turn switch tool OFF. For hardware I’m using the following : NI-PCI 6602 Card, SCB-60 Connector block, SSR Backplane (for digital signal), current operated switch, and Encoder model TRD-S1000-VD (1000 counts/Rev). And for software I’m using LabVIEW 8.5.1. I have attach the encoder to the blade saw  to monitor blade when stop costing and utilize the current sensor to monitor no current  and send the signal to a digital input to trigger costing time. I create a software program with this sequence:
Step 1) Turn  ON tool switch for 6 seconds (so tool can reach full RPMs, about 4000).
Step 2) Turn OFF tool switch and monitor current with current sensor (no current in the circuit will trigger the encoder. Monitor current is done in case if tool switch stucks.
Step 3) If no current in the circuit, start timer (to time blade costing) and start monitoring saw blade RPMs with the encoder counts.
Step 4) Stop timer when blade RPMs drops below 30 rpms. (30 rpms it considers stop time) and record how long the blade took to come to stop time.
Step 5) Wait for 16 seconds and go to step 1 (start cycles again)
In the software program, I record number of cycles and time of each cycle, which is the costing time of the blade after sensing no current. The problem I have is zero time recorded on some cycles. I have recorded 1000 cycles on chart graph and 10 cycles out of a 1000 had zero data as time, blade costing time, even though the blade was spinning. I think that my program application records missing randomly because sometime there is more than 10 cycles and sometimes is less than 10 cycles missing  in a 1000 cycles. I want to fix glitch to avoid this zero data record.
Attach is 3 pictures two of them are graphs with cycles vs. stop time. One graph has 1000 cycles recorded and you can see the zero time recorded in a cycle. The other graph has 37500 cycles recorded and you can see that there are a lot missings and this is not acceptable. The third picture is the block diagram of the VI I’m using to monitor encoder pulses, no current, and stop time of the blade.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
      Thanks,
