PDF files not saving/missing and leaving "aa12345" and "aaa12345" files??? - Solution

risscand: I have workers that are unable to save and they are seeing an "aaa04916" type file in their working folder. This is causing us to lose work (because we are unable to save over the original file) or send out incomplete documents.
Mudassir: As I understand when you try to edit and save a document, it directly opens "Save As", is that correct?
risscand: No. When the user saves normally. Ctrl+S or the "Save" icon via the disk at the top of the page it appears to save however the PDF does not actually rewrite
risscand: This results in an aaa12345 file in the folder, but an unchanged PDF.
Mudassir: Okay.
Mudassir: Thank you for the information.
Mudassir: I will be glad to help you with this issue.
risscand: Excellent
Mudassir: May I know if you are chatting from the issue facing computer?
risscand: I am not currently experiencing the issue but many of the employees in this office are.
risscand: I can review the issue and see the files however, our worked is based off of a server.
Mudassir: Okay.
Mudassir: Marissa, this error often occurs due to a confict with Acrobat application and Windows Preview.
Mudassir: In order to resolve the issue, you need to disable the Windows Preview in the Windows Explorer
Mudassir: Follow the steps below to fix:
Mudassir: Go to “Computer” or a windows explorer window, click on the “View” tab and then make sure the “Preview pane” is unselected. Then try saving your PDF document again.
risscand: This option was not used by the users
risscand:: I just asked one of the individuals who was experiencing the issue and she has never used that option.
Mudassir: Just a minute.
risscand: Thanks
Mudassir: Thank you for your patience.
Mudassir: Are all the users using Acrobat or Adobe Reader to save the PDF files?
risscand: Acrobat
Mudassir: Is that PDF file saved on network?
risscand: Yes
Mudassir: Does that users have the complete access to the network drive and are all the users use that PDF at a time?
risscand: The PDF's are used one at a time. The individual who combines the reports that the workers probably does not have complete access to the network.
Mudassir: To re-write the PDF which is saved on network, the users need to have complete access. If not, they will get the save as option and they can save that PDF file on their local drive
Here are the options I got from Customer Service - Hopefully it will help some of you!

I recently downloaded Nero 11 and then removed. I also deleted some software Babylon, Yonno (? some name) in control panel.
Using ZoneAlarm 10.1.101 and Firefox 10.0.2 (removed and reinstalled).

    Hello Cor-el,
I went to Tools>Options>Privacy and it is checked off as you indicated/noted...
I will check out the URL downloads+windows later this week...
ZoneAlarm will not work with the latest Firefox versions 14 (or earlier ones)... so reverted to an older version of Firefox and ZoneAlarm... and it works! Aside- it is ANNOYING to click on latest version upload for Firefox and then get a screen showing what software is not compatible with that version. So I needed to remove the latest Firefox version and ZoneAlarm.. and re-install both.
No need to use Firefox 10.0.6 ESR because I am a small home user and not a big organization?
Thanks for your help, I will have to make the time this coming week and look into this further.

Is this a webpage that contains a link to a flv file? Please post a link to the page and tell us which link(s) are the problem flv files or else post a link to the .flv file itself.
Alternately, click on one of the sample FLV File links on this page and tell us exactly what happens:

Depending on how you have Firefox set up, clicking on a FLV File link will either save the FLV file to your computer or Firefox may open it automatically in an external application right after downloading (Firefox may ask you first). Firefox itself can't play FLV files so you need a "helper" application (or a plugin for flv files, if ther is one. You can see if Firefox is already set up to download or open FLV files by going to Firefox Preferences and looking in the Applications list. Find the FLV file type in the list and, if the action is "Open with", it should show the application that can play FLV files (e.g., VLC Media Player or Perian). • PDF Printer not saving files; 9.5.5 (pro) with Windows 7, 64 bit

I imagine that the root of this issue has to do with compatibility between the OS 64 and and 32 bit application of Acrobat 9.5.5. The installation has been uninstalled, reinstalled, and fully repaired. Initially, while printing from powerpoint (but also any other source, including chrome, firefox, or from acrobat's own interface), the PDF printer would output a generic error about the "current printer setup". After reveiwing the event log, a sidebyside 40 seemed to be causing the problem. I followed the solution posted at http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/a4c36078-6419-4424-8a43-ff3832786 b59/many-sidebyside-78-errors-with-acrobat-9-designer, but with no luck. I then went and installed the PDF printer manually using the adobePDF.inf file. This removed the generic error, but now when converting using the PDF Printer, no file is saved and no error dialog appears. Nothing is showing in the event viewer either. Print-to-pdf works, but the user needs specific formatting that occurs while printing. Any ideas what may be occuring?
Running 9.5.5 Adobe Pro on a Windows 7 Pro 64 bit system.

Let's step back a bit. First, since you have apparently been successful at installing the printer let us see if it works. Open and application and go to the print menu and select Print-to-file for the Adobe PDF printer. Assuming that is successful, open the file that is created (usually a PRN extension, though it is a PS file) in Distiller. Do you get a PDF now, or errors about the creation?
If the PDF is created, use ctrl-alt-del>task manager to see if Acrotray is running in the background. If not, go to the Acrobat (or Distiller) folder and start it. If you can not start it then Acrotray is the problem that you are having. It might be that it will work if installed in a 32-bit compatibility mode.

  • Modification to pdf files not saved in the original document

The modification to pdf files are not saved in the original documents (e.g. in My Documents) but a new file is created in Download\Adobe Reader and for every saving I do a new file (e.g.  -1, -2, ..) is created. Is that normal? If yes, it is really annoying.

No, it is not a read only file and I can modify it. The problem is that the modifications are not saved with the same name in the original (e.g. in My Documents) folkder but in a different one (Download\Adobe Reader) and for every saving I do a new file (e.g.  -1, -2, ..) is created.

  • Cannot save as PDF - "Could not save a copy as (filename) because the file is already in use..."

I have a number of PSD files I've created and I'm trying to save them as PDFs.
I can Save for Web and Devices, I can save as a .gif, .eps., and every other format I've tested, but I cannot save as a PDF. I get the error:
"Could not save a copy as (filename) because the file is already in use or was left open by another application."
    I'm running Adobe Master Collection CS5 with Photoshop CS 5.5 (12.0.4 x64) on a Windows 7 64-bit machine.
I have a 928 GB HD with 697 GB free.
I have rebooted and tried saving the files immediately after I reboot. I have killed my virus scanner. I have killed a number of other possible culprits including Acrotray.exe and CS5ServiceManager.ext
I have run Process Explorer as recommended by Microsoft and found no applications using the file. I've also tried saving the file to my external hard drive and/or renaming the file with only rare luck.
    Nothing seems to fix it.
The boards seem to suggest Adobe isn't taking responsibility for this and pointing it back to the OS or other software. I'm willing to believe them if someone can show me how/where to kill whatever process it is - but at this point, all my indicators point back to Photoshop.

Here is a clip from a past post where user could not drag and drop files to hard drive.
To my great relief I have now sorted this issue and offer the following as the Correct Answer. My sincere and grateful thanks go to Curt and Yammer, above, who have helped me so much in sorting this Windows 7 issue which is clearly very relevant to Bridge users also. Any slowness to grasp what they have been saying is down to me!
The key to solving this issue lies is understanding that in terms of Windows 7 Security, every internal or external hard drive, plus folders, sub-folders and files thereon has an OWNER. Also each OWNER has a certain level of PERMISSION to do things such as moving files to a different folder, deleting or re-naming them etc. If you try to do things that you don't currently have Permission to do, that is when you get an ‘Access Denied’ error message. Also your system has an Admistrator or Administrators and at the outset you need to ensure through the Control Panel that you are listed as one of them. .
If, like me, you didn't realise these things, (and why would you if Microsoft or your computer or hard drive suppliers couldn't be bothered to really make sure you knew about them), then trying to fathom the ‘Access Denied’ problem becomes a stressful and frustrating nightmare as I can testify having spent a week at it!
The steps that I took to resolve the issue and which I believe now constitute the 'Correct Answer' are as follows:
First make sure that you have Administrator rights on your system via the Control Panel
Next ‘right click’ on the Drive whose files you want to gain full access to, for example the drive that your pictures are stored on, and click on 'Properties'.
Under the Security tab you will see a list of Groups and Users on this drive and the Permissions that they have to do things.
Before doing anything to edit these Permissions, first click on the Advanced button. This opens another window with a tab showing the Owner of this drive.
Click on the Owner tab and if you are not already listed as the owner, make yourself the owner by selecting your name from the list. I believe it should appear there if you are an admistrator or user. (In my case at this stage the owner was initially shown as an obscure string of numbers and letters which I believe identified the drive when it was connected to the lap top I was using before I upgraded my machine)
Now be sure to check the box that says "Replace Owner on Subcontainers and Objects" and the click Apply. On completion of this step, the drive in question and all the folders, subfolders and files thereon should now be 'owned' by you. You could check this out by right clicking on a particular folder then clicking Properties > Security > Advanced > Owner. Your name should appear. So far so simples!
Now go back to the Security Tab for your drive (Step 2 / 3 above) and look at the Permissions you currently have. Your aim now is to allow yourself 'Full Control.' If you don’t currently have this level of permission click Edit, select your name on the list, check ‘Full Control’ and 'Apply' the change.
I think I'm right in saying that at this point whilst still working in the Drive directory you are now given the option of ticking boxes which allow you to, in effect, cascade the permission you have just granted yourself to all the files and folders on that drive. Tick the box to allow this and Windows should then take care of the rest.If I'm not quite correct here then in my particular case, for example, all my images were stored on my external drive. The top level, or 'parent' folder in which all my pictures could be found was the 'My Pictures' folder and I had created a number of folders and subfolders ('child ' folders) within that folder. The permissions I gave to the Parent folder – My Pictures – were cascaded down through the Child folders.
On completion of the above step I tested the result in Windows Explorer by dragging a few files back and forth between folders and it now worked perfectly - I was now able to move / delete / rename etc all files without now getting the dreaded access denied message. What a sense of relief! This meant that I could now open Bridge normally rather than having to right click it and 'Run As Admistrator' - albeit that is a very useful thing to do until you get the problem sorted as described.

  • File not saving correctly

Hi all, Recently I have been having trouble saving my stamped files, when i go into a file, stamp it & the save it the following error appears " The document cannot be saved, could not save to this filename, please save the document with a different name or in a different folder" and it turns it into a .tmp file, so then i have to go back into 'save as' select the same file name again & it works, this has just started in December i have not done any updates, any help?

    Hello Nakul,
We have exact error message with Reader XI when signing a file on network and it attempts to save over existing file.  Not a problem on local drive.  This started after updating Dec 22 (adobe release was a few days earlier).  Renaming is a hassle and leaves files that have to be deleted.
    If there is a TSB#?
To explain a little more of the behavior just as above.  When we get the error, Reader will have just renamed it ####.temp.  If you reattempt in same session and then select the original file name (operating under .tmp) then it can work sometimes.  However, sometimes at that point the user now has a greyed out 'sign document' button and can no longer sign.  Using File Open in Reader and still same issue.
General logic here is this is an Adobe issue and not a Windows solution and would like to confirm or find solution here.
Thank You very much for any information.

  • C309g Scanned files are saved as thick black lines and thin white lines

    Hi there,
I am able to scan the documents and see them briefly in the HPScan software but once I have saved them (.pdf or .jpeg) and tried to open them in any application, all I get is a file that consists of thick black lines spaced out with thin white lines.  Therefore whatever I scan is useless as it cannot be viewed in any way.
I am running Mac OSX Mavericks and have run all the updates and installed the latest drivers.  Originally I was unable to save anything but after perfroming the updates I was able to save the scans but it triggered the black and white lines.  The printer is connected to a network via Ethernet.
I tried scanning a blank white page but the output file is the same with the black and white lines.
    Please help.

  • Files not saving in CS2

    Hey, everyone
I just started working with InCopy a little while ago, so I hope there isn't some dreadfully easy solution to this problem that I'm just too obtuse to notice, but here it goes.
I've just started a job where I'm editing InCopy files, but we just found out the other day that none of the changes that I make can be saved. This, apparently, is a known problem in my company, but the Tech guy who knew about it and how to fix it left a few months ago. The new man has tried his best, but he can't figure it out. Those who have been around have said that when this was a problem before, it had something to do with plug-ins, but no one knows specifically.
The strange thing is that this only seems to be happening on the Macs around the office. We all have the same files on our servers, but any windows machine can open them up and edit them just fine, where all of our Macs can open, edit, etc... just fine, but when you save, none of the changes are there when you open the file back up.
We seem to be able to make new files just fine, though. At least ones as rudimentary as opening up a new document, typing in a few words and saving that.
Can InCopy not save files on a Mac that were created on a PC? That seems ludicrous to me, but those who are trying to deal with this problem are batting it around as a possibility.
I'm sorry that I can not give a lot of technical specifications, and certainly since I'm so new with this, I'm not sure which would really be all that helpful. But for what it's worth, I'm running InCopy CS2 V4.0.5 on a G5 iMac with OS 10.4.8.
There are lots of theories going around here as to why my, as well as all of the Macs in the office, can't save any of these files, but no one knows for sure.
So, uh, does anyone out there have any ideas?
    Many thanks,
    -Gary

I absolutely would love it if someone more qualified from my office would come here and explain this more thoroughly, but we are a relatively small company and I don't know too many people who know this program completely. Also, there being only one IT guy, he's so busy that I barely see him. When he contacted Adobe about this, they told him that they would try to get back to him, though that was some time ago.
That being said, I will try my absolute best to describe this the best I can. I know I'm unqualified, but I'm afraid that little will get done without me trying.
We have a central server that every computer in the office is connected to. We have .incx files on our server and, since we need to keep raw files as well as the various stages of progress we make on these files, we all make copies of the files from the server and save them locally on our hard drives.
So here's what I do, the best that I can describe it.
I go to our server and save chapter files (e.g. Chapter 1_1.incx...1_8.incx) to my hard drive. I choose the first part of the chapter, simply clicking on the icon on my desktop, which then opens up in InCopy. When I open the file it opens up in the Story tab. There are three ????/Story/Layout. I very rarely use story because I really need to see the layout, so I always click over to Layout mode.
Now, all of these files have been created/formatted and all that jazz months ago and states away. They people who made them have sent them to us to edit and make changes. Basically, what I am supposed to do is open these files and make rudimentary changes. They kinda just said, "hey kid, see this list of codes that are at the bottom of each of these pages? They are separated by commas, make them all semi-colons." So I go into Layout mode, and click my into the text boxes and go through replacing the commas with semi-colons.
I know that pages can be locked out from editing for various reasons, and when that's the case you can't do anything. I can click my cursor on the text, but I can't add or erase anything. This is not the case here. I go through my entire document replacing commas with semi-colons and click the Save icon when I reach the end. In our attempts to try different things, we would do various things (add a big "C" at the beginning of the first paragraph of the first page, just anything easily noticeable) and would try it by clicking the save icon, when that wouldn't work, we would click "Save Content," when that wouldn't work we would try it with "Save All Content." I suppose it is important to not that those are some of the only things that become click-able when we make any changes. There are a lot of things in that file menu, I wish I knew all of them by heart since I am no longer in the office I can't say for sure what is click-able and what isn't. But I know for sure that there are only two things with the word "Save" in them that you can click on (Save Content and Save All Content) and we have tried them both on many occasions.
So, back to my workflow. I discovered this problem when I realized that I missed something and re-opened my file to make the change and realized that nothing was saved. Now, I opened the file that was on my desktop at first, then I checked the one I thought was completed that I had put on the server: both were the same. On out server there are multiple files per chapter. I will go onto the server, click on "Chapter 1" and there will be a number of folders that represent the evolving incarnations of these files. The files go: Raw files; First Edit; Second Edit; Third Edit, etc.... So I initially copy the files from the Raw folder and save them onto my desktop. When I'm done with editing the text in the files, I rename that file to reflect that I have changed it (Chapter1_1.incx becomes Chapter1_1_gt.incx) and I place the edited files into the "First Edit" folder where my editor will copy the files from the "First Edit" folder onto her desktop and make sure that everything is done properly. When she verifies that, someone will take my files and do whatever they need to do, and when they get done they will put it into the "Second Edit" folder. I mention all of this because I don't know what will and won't be important information, so I'm sorry that it is a lot.
However, no matter when I change anything or when I save, there is no different outcome. I can take the raws straight off the server, change one things, click save, any of them, and nothing will happen. I can try and save after I rename it, whenever, it doesn't matter, nothing ever saves.
Now, I don't know about track changes. I don't think that it's on. I've seen files that have had track changes used on them for edits (In the Story tab you can see the deleted things struck out, correct?) This doesn't happen when I edit anything. But for on the PC that I am using temporarily, Track Changes isn't on that one either and everything works fine.
I think that's all I've got at the moment. Without further questions, that is.
I'm sorry this is all so vague, so I really appreciate anything that can come of this. I'm just afraid that our trying to contact Adobe directly has stalled and I really just want my computer back, you know?
    Thanks for all the help
    -Gary
