PDF Link to Access

Is there a way (similar to Infopath) where certain field in
Acrobat 9 pro can be linked to a database like MS access? ie: a
fill out form where the fields will link and fill out the tables in
access upon submit / send.
Thanks.

  • Bug:Unable to open a pdf link using Acrobat Reader 9.3.4

When I open pdf links in IE I get the error message
"Your current security setting does not allow this file to be downloaded."
I have added the site to trusted sites without luck.
I also followed the link http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/328/328233.html
I have been able to access these links with 8.x versions. of Adobe Reader.
For example when I try to get the IRS 1040 form
    http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f1040.pdf?portlet=3
I get the error message mentioned above.
Now more  This is running on a Windows 2003 32 bit server.  I use Citrix XenApp to publish IE.  I have used 7 users to test. Two have an issue.  Four and the admin do not.  There is nothing in the Event log regarding this issue.  I am not sure how to enable debugging within the reader.
I would appreciate any assistance to troubleshoot this issue.
    Thank you.

As you discovered, Adobe Acrobat/Pro/Reader v.9 will crash for all managed user accounts that store their home folders on the server because it has "difficulty" reading and writing to a folder across a network, which is why it crashes shortly after it launches.
HOWEVER, there is hope. All you need to do is tell Adobe to write all of its files to the local drive rather than the home folder on the sharepoint, as follows:
While logged into your network-user account:
    1. Go to the "Shared" folder on the local drive. (Local HD > Users > Shared)
    2. Create a new folder named "9.0_x86" if you have an Intel or "9.0_ppc" if you have a PPC (without the quotes for either case). You will have to authenticate as an Administrator.
    3. Go to the Acrobat folder within the user's Application Support and delete the folder in it.
    (Home > Library > Application Support > Adobe > Acrobat > 9.0_x86 or 9.0_ppc)
    4. Open/launch the Terminal application found within the Utilities folder on you Mac.
    (Applications > Utilities > Terminal.app)
    5. In Terminal, enter the 1st command for Intel or the 2nd for PPC:
    ln -s /Users/Shared/9.0_x86 ~/Library/Application \Support/Adobe/Acrobat/9.0_x86
    OR
    ln -s /Users/Shared/9.0_ppc ~/Library/Application \Support/Adobe/Acrobat/9.0_ppc
Adobe Acrobat 9 should now work properly. You may get the "quit unexpectedly" error message the first time you quit the application, but should only happen the one time.
On a side note, the print spool is slow when printing very large multi-paged PDFs.
This is a fix I found in 2009 by Dennis, can't remember where though.

  • When interactive pdf opens in browser window can the pdf links open in separate windows

Problem is the pdf works ok when it opens in the browser window, BUT the links in the pdf don't open in separate browser windows, as they do when the pdf is downloaded as a file.
If pdf links can only open in separate browser window when the pdf itself opens as a separate file, the how do I email a pdf download link on a website.

    Hello Yesh,
you can open PDFs as a guest user (without authentification):
    1. Allow Guest Access (Admin -> Security Configuration -> Check "Allow Guest Access" and select a folder name).
    2. Copy your Report into this guest folder
    3. You can open the Report as PDF with a link like this:
    http://(bip-server-name):9704/xmlpserver/(guest-folder-name)/(report-name)/(report-name).xdo?_xpt=0&_xf=pdf&_xmode=4(&report-parameters)
Just replace the strings in brackets. You find a great description of the URL parameters in Tim Dexters Blog
    http://blogs.oracle.com/xmlpublisher/2006/07/accessing_xmlp_enterprise_repo.html
I didn't find an option to set the height of the PDF-Output for the guest user in the BIP-UI. Maybe I missed something. But you can manually edit the configuration file. It is located on your BIP server direcory in the subdirectory xmlp/XMLP/Users. Select the guest users subdirectory and edit the configuration file "user~.profile".
In this XML config file there is an entry "viewerHeight". In the Value-Tag you can enter the PDF output windows height in pixel (but unfortunaly not in % - this was the question of my original posting).
    Hope that helps...

  • Problem opening online PDF link/file

Every time I try to open a PDF link, I get an error message saying it's not opening because it's either not a supported file type or it's damaged. I have tried opening it with Google chrome and Mozilla Firefox to no avail. I also considered whether or not I had the wrong Adobe Reader version but I believe it's up-to-date. If anyone could shed some light on this issue, I'd be very grateful.

  • Adobe PDF Link Helper Problem

    Hello,
I am looking for some help because I am out of options. When I open up a pdf through IE, and use the add-on toolbar, none of the buttons can be used. They are all "frozen" except for the zoom function. This is the case for multiple or any documents. I have tried uninstalling IE9 and reverting back to IE8 but no luck. None of the IE are 64 bit, they are all 32 bit. Any help in this matter is greatly appreciated.
Here is a bit of background:
OS: Windows 7 (some PC's are 32 bit and others are 64 bit)
    Adobe X 10.1.3
    IE9 and IE8 both 32 bit.
Add ons are enabled for Adobe.
    Thank you.

I do not see either PDF Link Helper or                Adobe Acrobat SharePoint Open Documents Component in 64 bit IE9.  I see them both in the 32 bit version.  Are they both for displaying in a browser?  The root issue I am trying to solve is getting the SharePoint 2010 Acrobat X integration to work,  The original symptom was that a user would check out a pdf  file from a SharePoint library, edit it (using the comment feature in Reader) and then Save or Check In.  Either action would result in a Cannot Access the Network error.  Looking at the HTML traffic in Fiddler showed the error text had nothing to do with the problem, which seemed to be about attribute values.  Anyway, I put this on the back burner for a couple months and returned to it recently.  It now works on my machine in a 32 bit browser.  (ACCEPTABLE RESTRICTION).    My coworker still gets the original error.  I poked around and found the SharePoint Open Documents add-on on my machine and not hers and suspect it has something to do with the difference in behavior.  So I am trying to find out what it is supposed to do and if it really is relevant, how to cause it to be downloaded on other people’s machines.  I have been through the server configuration steps listed in Chapter 13 of the Acrobat Admin Guide.

  • Firefox hangs when opening PDF links

I have tried the suggestions, but none of them worked.
If I click on a link to access a PDF file, Firefox hangs.
I seem to be able to download other files OK.

Had the same problem. I went into the Plugins and when I disabled the DocuCom PDF plus plugin the problem stopped. See if you have any plugins or extensions that deal with PDF files and try disabling them and see if the problem resolves.

  • Purpose of Adobe PDF Link Helper

I have an idea of what this browser add-on does.
    AcroPDF.dll
    Adobe PDF Browser Control
AKA  Adobe Acrobat Sharepoint OpenDocuments Component
    AKA PDF Browser Control
Apparently if I disable it PDFs embedded in a page with the <embed> tag fail to function properly.
However, I can't find anywhere accurate documentation on what this add-on below does.
    AcroIEHelperShim.dll
    Adobe PDF Link Helper
AKA Adobe PDF Helper for Internet Explorer
    AKA AcroIEHelperShim Library
IE9 seems to work flawlessly without it.  PDF's still open within the browser with it disabled.  Only if I uncheck Display PDF in Browser in Readers preferences does that cease.
So, can someone (hopefully Adobe) entlighten me on what this add-on does, and why I shouldn't just have all employees have this disabled by default?

  • Excel links to Access DB Hosted on SharePoint?

    Hello-
I manage a site for intercompany financial reporting, and I am attempting to automate our monthly reporting. Specifically, I want to use Access to automatically report data to specific excel spreadsheets hosted in secure files on our SharePoint for
data visualization and analysis. The criteria for the system seem to make it unfeasible as far as I know, and that is why I am asking the question of how to do this here.
    Objectives:
    1. Link an Access database located on the sharepoint site itself to numerous satellite excel spreadsheets. Hosting from my PC or a shared team drive isn't an option, as not everyone will be able to automatically "Refresh" data if its located there.
Ive been able to link excel to databases on hard drives but not those on the SharePoint.
    2. Excel spreadsheets should refresh automatically, without any input from the site admins or end users. All I want my team to have to do is upload a new Access file at the month's end. That access file will have the same structure and queries every month,
just updated with new data monthly.
    3. Data transfer should be one way. We want to be able to report out data but we do not want others to be able to alter it in such a way that it impacts the Access DB.
In summary, we want to upload one Access DB and allow the queries to provide inputs for a number of reports so that those who need the information can open an excel file and view the most recent data without having to refresh it or us having to
allow them editing privileges. Your thoughts are apprecciated.

    Hi Stags3648,
First, if I understand correctly, you want to connect to an Access Data from an Excel file. Both the Access Data and Excel are stored in SharePoint library. If I have misunderstood anything, please don't hesitate to let me know.
    For your questions:
    1. We can connect to Acces file(in SharePoint) from Excel using the URL path. e.g.
http://site/Shared%20Documents/, and then select the Access Database file.
    2. In order to force the Excel file to be refreshed, there is no out of box(OOF) solution.
The possible workaround is using customized code to open the Excel file, refresh the data, and then save to SharePoint library again.
    3. If we just connect from Excel to Access, the end-users won't be able to change any data from Excel to Access by default.
Excel is a good for data visualization and analysis. But why not using SQL Server Reporting Service(SSRS)? While using SSRS, end-users can be only able to view report, the reports can be refreshed automatically.

  • Can't Find ODBC drivers to link MS Access 2013 and MySQL

Can't Find ODBC drivers to link MS Access 2013 and MySQL.
    Is one available?
    Thanks,
    Larry

Could to associate the problem at Office 2013?
I just installed the ODBC Driver; The data source machine was available; When selected I had received the message. When it was selected I had received the message:
    "ODBC -- falha na chamada.
[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] O DSN especificado contém uma incompatibilidade de arquiteturas entre o Driver e o Aplicativo (#0)"
In english, could to say: "ODBC -- fail on call.
... The specified DSN contains a architectural incompatibility between Driver and App (#0)"
I don't know yet the reason for this. Anyone knows?

  • Exported pdfs - Linked file not dispalying correctly on some machines

    Hi,
I'm creating several PDFs in InDesign CS5.5. I'm creating links to different files in InDesign using buttons. The pdf links work correctly on all machines and open the file theyre supposed to. I run into a problem on some machines though. The first page of the newly opened pdf opens completely gray... nothing displayed. If you hit page down and then page up, page two displays fine, and page one then appears fine from that point on. On some machines it's a little slow to display, and goes from gray to displaying the page in about one second.
Does anyone know why this would be happening, and how to fix it?
They are created on a mac, and the problem is present on some macs, but not others, and seems fine on PC. It's also worth pointing out that it isn't the speed/power of the machine, because the older less powerful machines have no problems with it.

How are these files being viewed?

  • FF 6.0 doesn't open pdf-links, after clicking on "open pdf" error message says file not supported or damaged. IE opens file all right. Please advice.

Firefox 6.0 doesn't open pdf-links after clicking on "open pdf". I frequently need to do literature searches and I need to view pdf files in the browser. After clicking on the pdf - link of a file the main options are to open or download the pdf. Every time I try to open a pdf-file a blank page and an error message appears saying the file would not be supported or is damaged. IE, however, opens the file all right. I tried various changes in the security and cookie settings without success. Please advice.

    Hi SGckc,
This document is almost certainly a dynamic XFA form. Unfortunately, our mobile Reader does not support displaying or filling such forms. The application that produces this form embeds this message into the document so that non-supportive viewers (like ours) will display this "error" page when the document opens. I do realize that this is confusing and I would like to add some additional detection to our Reader for this case. However, we've avoided doing this for fear of confusing users even further. Your feedback helps though. Hopefully we'll find a way to detect this case and present a better message to the user like: This form is not supported by the mobile version of the Adobe Reader. Please open and fill it on the non-mobile version of the Adobe Reader for Windows, Linux or Mac OSX.
    Thank you for contacting us!

  • PDF links to video footage on DVD ??

I want to make a PDF document which links to several Video clips (or different chapters in one video clip). I can make the links in Acrobat no problem, but I can't make them open a .vob in a VideoTS folder (it opens Toast for some reason). So I figure I need to make individual clips compressed in some other way?
Because my projects usually go straight to DVD after creating menus of varying complexity in DVDSP, my work flow through Compressor has become reliable and un-varied. I have tweaked my favourite settings which work well for me.
But now I have to make something quite different and I'm having trouble getting my head around the enormous variety of settings and choices offered in Compressor.
I believe I can't compress these clips in mpeg-2 and author all this in a conventional DVD because of the above problem (please someone correct me if I am wrong). I think I have to compress the clips into .mov (or the like) and have all this on some sort of CD-ROM (DVD-ROM)?
If so what compression method do I choose?
I've done several experiments with a short clip representing the type of footage I have filmed. H264 gives excellent picture results, but it is jumpy on playback. QuickTime movies look dreadful.
Can someone please point me in the right (or any) direction? Right now I feel I'm going round in circles.
    Cheers...
(I'm using SD DV footage, eventual output compatible to PC users)

I understand the idea to use a PDF linking to video playback, I have done this countless times for clients who want annual reports turned into interactive documents with video, graphics and photography added
As to the type of file format to use to link from the PDF's, this will depent on a number of factors, end user compatability, the overall efficiency of the users computer and your own working practices.
my comments are based with my authoring set up and the clients I supply:
Quicktime - few windows computers have QT installed, if you use this you would need to provide QT player on the disk, the user would need to install manually. H264 looks great but users machine spec has to be good
WMV - I use this when I am asked for video linked to a Powerpoint file or from PDF.s, works well reasonable image quality, I can usually run WMF files up to full screen on my clients machines.
flash - again few computers have this installed, picture quality is not as good as WMV and the image size must be kept small, the user would need to install Flash Player if not already installed
MPEG 1 - the worst image quality but the most compatable of the video formats, any PC using windows 95 and newer will play this file, I never use this as it is so poor, even though I have an expensive real time hardware encoder.
VOB - I use this when there is more video that text for the viewer to watch. VOBs are generated from an individually created DVD using DVDSP, for our users is the best image quality.
Having the icons showing 'blank' for the VOB files is normal.
Toast is launching because there is an association to Toast from the VOB's just like mov files are associated to QT player, just ignore this it wont cgange the outcome in Acrobat. My VOB's are also 'blank' and are linked to DVD Afteredit
I cant giveyou specific advice for a workflow as this is so wide open.
If I was given this job with my resources, I would link the PDF pages to WMF files which I would create in Flip 4 Mac. I would also split the project up into smaller individual files, if the publication had 10 sections I'd make 1 file for each chapter and have a starter or main page so the user can navigate with ease, they dont know they are jumping about to different files.
This is to keep the file size down as PDF's run better with more files but smaller file sizes.
My main client has 60,000 Windows XP users who can not change the set up of the computer, as the IT dept does not want the user adding extra applications or changing the set up in any way. Windows Media Player is already installed on these machines.

  • How can I make multiple PDF links open in the same second tab, instead of a 3rd, 4th etc.

I am working on a project for my Universities 125 year anniversary.  Essentially I've created a 125 year long digital yearbook, with a link to the University's actual digital yearbook for each individual year.  I'm wondering if there is a way that I can make all of the yearbook links open in the same second page.
IE:  Main Project open in a window,  when I click the 1939 Yearbook pdf hyperlink, the 1939pdf will open in the second window.  I then want to find a way so that after this, on the main page, I can click the 1940 yearbook pdf link and have the 1940 yearbook load on the second window, replacing the 1939pdf, instead of just opening the 1940pdf on a third new tab/window?
Note: I have all of the yearbook PDF's online and downloaded, so I can make the hyperlink send you to the site, or do a download style thing.
Thank for any help, and if anyone needs further information just ask me!
