Pentium 4, XP PRO machine

Hi,
I have to install Ora Client on Pentium 4, XP Professional machines.
These machines will connect to an Oracle 8i Server.
Now there are some questions in my mind.
1-8i client available on Oracle's download pages is mentioned to be for 2000/NT. For XP won't it work?
On some forums ; I've read messages saying 8i client can be used on XP, but some messages saying only 9i client will work. Which one is true?
2- Of course, P4 problem. Is it needed to download some programs from Sun's site(JVM? ... )
I need help from those who knows the exact answers..
Thanks..

Could it be a firewall blocking a port that Oracle needs?
Service Pack 2 for Microsoft Windows XP turns on the firewall by default.
Unless, there is a conflict somewhere with the installation program and what you already have installed. Such as, do you have a version of some Oracle software already installed?
Could it be a conflict with the Java runtime? The Oracle Universal Installer uses its own Java VM.
Have you tried downloading the latest client software for Oracle 9.2 and trying that?

  • Laserjet 1320 on win 7 (64bit) - cannot access from a networked XP Pro machine?

    I have a Laserjet 1320 and a Officejet 6450 attached to a win 7 (64bit) machine - both work fine.
Have a home workgroup network established with an XP pro machine.  Both printers are "shared" etc..
I can access the Offiejet from the XP machine, but cannot get access to the Laserjet.  Claims that
the proper Driver cannot be located.  Have downloaded the PCl5 driver to the Win 7 machine, but when
I point the XP machine to the HP PCL5 Driver folder on the win 7 machine it still cannot find the proper driver.
    Any help will be appreciated.

    Hi Don
    Thanks for the reply.
The version of Visual Studio being used is 2002 (getting on a bit now).
We had a play about with the way we installed the MSI installer we had created that installs the Crystal Reports runtimes (merge modules) and managed to get it to work on both Windows 7 32bit and 64bit.
The solution was a weird one, but seemed to work (but was different to what I had done before to get it to work).  We made sure the MSI was local on the PC and right-clicked the MSI and selected the ''Troubleshoot Compatibility' ' option.  Not 100% why this would work, but it seems to have done the trick.
    Many thanks for your help.
    David.

  • What is the secret to installing iTunes 10.5 on a Windows XP Pro machine?

While attempting to update iTunes 10.4.1.10 to version 10.5 on a Windows XP Pro machine (ver 2002, SP3), I get a recurrent error in the midst of the install:
"There is a problem with this Windows Installer Package.  A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected.  Contact your support personnel or package vendor."
I am trying to upgrade my IPAD 2 to iOS5 and can't get past step one in the overall process.  I stopped by the local Apple store and spoke to one of their gurus - he said that a minimum requirement for the iTunes 10.5 upgrade in a Windows environment is the Vista or Windows 7 O/S.  However, I know of other folks who run iTunes in a Windows XP environment who have successfully upgraded their iTunes 10.4 to 10.5 and then successfully upgraded their IPAD 2 to iOS5.
So my basic question is what am I missing?
Thanks for any and all assistance.

  • Unable to install SQL Express 2005 on W7 Pro machine

I am trying load a Toshiba Telecom application on a W7 Pro 64bit machine. The application has SQL Express 2005 embedded and will not install completely.  I downloaded the SQL Express 2005 SP3 from MS and it comes up during the installation and states
that the PC does not have the proper hardware requirements and that it cannot install because of the wrong ASP file. The machine is an i7 with 16GB ram and 1.7TB hard drive. Can anyone help? I have the same application loaded on other W7 Pro machines with
    no problem.

    Hi Patriot76,
According to your description, you fail to install SQL Server 2005 express SP3. Please help to post the complete setup error log here for analysis. By default, SQL Server setup log file locates in C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Setup Bootstrap\Log.
In addition, please confirm if your SQL Server is installed successfully.
For the hardware requirements, please make sure that your disk has at least 600 MB of available hard disk space. To install SQL Server 2005 express SP3 successfully, please pay attention to the points below.
1.Make sure that you have administrative rights on the computer.
2.Make sure that Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 or later is installed. If you do not have the .NET Framework 2.0 installed, you must download and install it before you install SP3.
3.Make sure that you install 64-bit SQLEXPR.EXE based on your 64-bit operation system.
4.Make sure that you stop all applications and services that make connections before you install SP3.
    Regards,
    Michelle Li

  • Problem Intalling hyper-v Windows 2012 R2 on a Windows 8.1 Pro machine

    First Try:
I am trying to install hyper-v Windows server 2012 from the Microsoft site below on to a Windows 8.1 Pro using Hyper-V Manager.
The Windows 2012 R2 ISO I downloaded from the link at the bottom of the screen.
I am downloading and copying this ISO to CD.  In hyper-v manager, right pane, I am clicking New, Virtual Machine, Next, Name (2012 R2), check the box “Store the virtual machine in a different location (F:\Windows 2012 R2), which is
a partition that will used for all my hyper-v OSs.  Click Next, select Generation 2, Next, Startup memory 512 with box checked “Use Dynamic Memory for this virtual machine, Next, Configure Network connection (chose my virtual switch I setup
in Virtual Switch Manager, Next.  For Connect Hard Disk, I chose “Create virtual hard disk, and went with the defaults. Clicked Next, and in Installation Options, I chose “Install an operating system from a bootable image file (media Image
file (iso) – browsed to my DVD device and chose the saved iso), and then clicked Finish button.
The virtual machine “2012 R2” appeared in the off state.  I double clicked it to open the virtual machine, and clicked the start button.
Received Boot Failed.  EFI SCSI Device.
    PXE Network using IPv4 ……..
    PXE-E18: Server response Timeout.
    Boot Failed.  EFI Network
    Boot Failed.  EFI SCSI Device.
    No Operating System was Loaded.
Press a key to retry the boot sequence…..

    Second Try:
I did the same process but changed select Generation 2 to Generation 1, and browsed to the ISO saved on my HDD rather than from a CD.
This time the Windows 2012 installed, but came up with a blue screen with the time showing in big numbers, and the words “Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete to sign in.
When I clicked Ctrl-Alt-Del:  the PC screen cleared and showed selections (Lock, Switch User, Sign Out, Task Manager).
I tried to switch user to my Microsoft Account, but it only redisplayed the previous blue screen with time ect…

You mount the ISO file directly to the VM, stored on the local disk.
If you mount the ISO and boot into a VM you should not get a logon prompt - you should get the ISO boot prompt to install and if you fail to respond the VHD is booted.
I am suspecting you have a  corrupt download of the ISO.

  • Linking between two Logic Pro machines for recording...

I am working on a film overseas where I need to run two Macs recording live concerts to Logic Pro simulatinously. How do I effectivly sync these two machines in a master/slave set-up? Can I use MMC, or is there a different protocol?

    fuzzynormal wrote:
If you're doing post (and of course you would), you can always synch your tracks after the fact.
But the previous response is on target. If you got a lot riding on the recording I'd suggest getting dedicated audio hardware, (rent if you have to) capturing the tracks with confidence, and then importing those tracks to do your post-mix with Logic.
Anyway, how many simultaneous tracks do you need to grab?
FYI, I've recorded my drummer (8-channels) with a old ProTools rig on a ancient G4, and the rest of the band with my Mackie 16 channel rig running into a MacBook Pro with Logic. Synched 'em in post, no problem.
Depending on the length of the recording and the material being recorded, differences in clock can get you subtle but difficult-to-fix phasing issues with that approach.
Probably not an issue when you're recording a drummer through a Mackie, but if this gig is a big one, there may be very different gear and artists involved, and probably a couple sets of extremely expensive ears listening to the final result.

  • ITunes 6.0 for a Pentium 2; 300 Mhz Machine

I just puchased the 30Gb iPod and read the systems requirements for iTunes 6.0 is a Pentium, 500 Mhz machine. Will it still work with my Pentium 2, 300 Mhz dinosaur?

Porbably not, what version of Windows do you use?

  • Map shared network drive from a Win XP pro machine to use with Time Machine

I have an external USB hard drive connected to a Windows XP Pro computer. The drive has two partitions that I created on my mac. One is a formated for Time Machine and one formated in fat for windows.
When connected by USB to the mac I can access both partitions and Time Machine works great. When connected to the XP I can only see and access the fat partition but Time Machine does not see it.
My goal is to have the external drive connect by USB to the XP machine (because it is always on and connected) and use the external drive to backup the pc by USB and the Mac with time machine over my wireless.
Can I do this and where am I going wrong?

Tech support advised me that this will not work. Time Machine can not backup to an shared network drive unless unless it is connected to Time Capsule. No doubt this is a marketing strategy and not a design flaw.

  • Installing Multiple Versions of JDK on same XP Pro Machine

I have a situation where I have 2 vendors who have software that needs to run under 2 different versions of Java. One of them requires 1.3.1_05 and the other 1.4.x. Is this possible? I have tried to run the software that requires 1.3.1_05 under 1.4 and failed. After talking with the vendor, they said ONLY 1.3.1_05... However, the other piece of software absolutely requires 1.4. It works only under that version and I tried testing it with lower versions and sure enough.
Why won't the software that requires 1.3.1_05 run under 1.4? This does not add up! Need help fast, this is commodity trading software.
    Miles

I am having a similar issue on W2K SP4 boxes.
Qwest's provisioning system runs through Netscape 4.79 and requires Java 1.3.0
SBC's provisiong system runs through IE 6 and requires Java 1.4
As soon as I install Java 1.4, Netscape fails to recognize that 1.3 is installed. Reinstalling 1.3 doesn't help.
I need both of these systems to run on the same machine and am guessing there is a registry setting I can adjust.
I've read where some people have used a batch script or VB to change some parameters to allow multiple versions of Java to run on the same machine. Even if a user had to click a batch file before opening Netscape to switch the version setting in the registry that would suit my needs.
Any help would be most appreciated!!!
    Thanks

  • My XP Pro machine will no longer see my Time capsule.

Just before Christmas, I switched from Embarq DSL to Cox Cable.
When I was with Embarq, I had a static IP address but now that I am no longer with Embarq, I no longer have a static IP address. I am mentioning this out of completeness and (as far as I know) for no other reason.
My set up is as follows:
Arris Cable modem (supplied by Cox Cable).
This goes into a Netgear GS105 switch.
My house has Cat6 cable wired into the wall and goes to the following four outlet:
    1) My old office - this is where I have my Dell Dimension running Windows XP Professional
    2) The closet - this is where I have a 1 Gb Time Capsule connected to a Belkin router which has 3 1 Tb external drives attached to it.
    3) The media nook - I have noting attached to this (I did it ready for when I get my HD TV and a Blu-Ray player).
    4) The bedroom - I have my iMac, running OS X 10.5.6
Before I switched to Cox Cable, everything worked perfectly:
My iMac could see my Dell and the Time Capsule AND the three external disc drives.
My Dell could see mu iMac and the three external disk drives (it could see the Time Capsule, but did not know how to access it, of course).
Everything could see and access everything else.
Then I switched to Cox Cable.
Now my Dell Dimension, running Windows XP Professional can see the outside world (Internet) but cannot see my iMac, Time Capsule or the three external hard drives.
My iMac CAN see my Time Capsule, three hard drives AND the outside world (Internet).
I would like everything to be able to access everything, just as it used to.
Cox cable have said "it's not our problem...we get Internet to your house and that's where our responsibility ends."
Nothing has been changed on any computer other than I made sure that all the IP addresses were assigned by the Cable modem and I no longer had the IP addresses hard coded into my PC.
Nothing else changed. I have switched off everything and unplugged everything.
The sequence that I power things up is:
    1) Reboot the cable modem (it has an 8-hour battery backup built in, so just switching it off does nothing). I wait until it has powered up and all the lights are on as expected.
    2) I power on the Netgear switch.
    3) I connect the Ethernet cable from the cable modem to the switch and make sure all the lights on the switch light up as expected.
    4) I connect the Ethernet cable to one of the computer (Time capsule or iMac or PC) and then switch on that computer. It will see the Internet.
    5) I connect the Ethernet cable to the next computer (Time capsule or iMac or PC) and then switch on that computer. It will see the Internet.
    6) I connect the Ethernet cable to the last computer (Time capsule or iMac or PC) and then switch on that computer. It will see the Internet.
The iMac will see the Time Capsule, the three hard drives and the Internet but not the PC.
The Time Capsule will see the network.
The PC will see the Internet but nothing else.
    What is the secret here?
Nothing changed EXCEPT the cable modem and Cox Cable swear blind that it is NOTHING to do with them, yet it will all work if connected to an Embarq DSL modem, rather than a Cox Cable modem.

It's NOT a firewall issue. The FIRST thing that I do with any Windows installation is to disable the firewall. I have just checked and the firewall IS disabled on the OC.
Yes, I CAN ping my mac from my PC.

  • I can't get Realplayer Downloader to run on my XP Pro machine even though the add-on is installed and enabled.

The Downloader works with IE8 but not with Firefox, however the Download Helper does work with Firefox (I just like Realplayer's version better). I'd appreciate any suggestions. Thank You! WW

    Ah, okay. I understand now.
There's a couple of things you could try:
*Try disabling all your your themes, add-ons and plug-ins that are not RealPlayer specific to see if that solves the problem. Do this in [[Safe Mode]]. If doing this gets RealPlayer to work with Firefox, then one of your themes, add-ons or plug-ins (or a combination of two or more of them) are conflicting with the RealPlayer functionality. <br /><br />
*If you can use RealPlayer in Firefox successfully with a new (unenhanced) profile, or in your standard profile with all themes, add-ons and plug-ins disabled, then try enabling them, one a a time, and restarting the browser after each to test each one sequentially. You should be able to narrow down which one or combination is causing the problem that way.
*If you cannot use RealPlayer in Firefox with a new and unenhanced profile, or with all themes, add-ons and plug-ins disabled, then the issue may be that the RealPlayer product simply does not function as intended. The fact that RealPlayer support has a support page dedicated to the problem seems to indicate the problem is on their end, rather than with Firefox.
