how can I be getting higher download speeds than my ip profile permits? image

I wouldn't worry - I am on ADSL2+ and my download is always higher than the profile and assumed that it is a glitch in recording the speeds.

  • Fast download speed but very slow web browsing

    Hi all,
Ive had BT fibre optic installed as i could never watch netflix and browse on the internet at the same time on regular broadband. So when i run a speed test its showing 78mbs download with abouth 19mbs upload. However every page a go on is taking about 30seconds to open even google.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks simon

    hi
can you run the speed test again and post the screen shots. please run using ethernet cable.
http://speedtest.btwholesale.com/  after the first test run further diagnostics by entering phone number in top box.
    also run this https://www.btwholesale.com/includes/adsl/main.html
i had similar problems when first installed due to contractor refusing to move my hub upstairs so i had to run on wifi.
even though at the time i was getting 30-40mbps it seemed slower than my previous 6mbps standard broadband.

  • My download speed in the Mac App store is horribly slow going at 600kb/s when my internet speed is 60Mb/s fibre optic broadband, why? Every other application has expected (fast) download speeds, so i doubt its my ISP or security settings.

As above, I have also tried clearing caches and changing settings in keychain. I can normally download a 5GB file in roughly 30 in any other application howver, in the App store it takes 4 hours. Very frustrating, any suggestions are very welcome.

Note: using enthernet or Wifi makes no difference in speed.

    Ok,
I have just convinced my frien to move from AOL to BT and he is starting to see problems.
I asked him to run a speed test and original after he entered his number  if replied it couldn't test at this time.
    This happens everytime.
I then got him to log into his home hub 3  and this is what it shows:--

I got him to run a Quiet Line test and you can hear a few clicks so I'm unsure of the downstream rate is correct.
I suspect its a problem on his PC but any suggestions I would be grateful

hi there is nothing wrong with his downstream
however if the clicks on the line can still be heard when checking at the test socket then that needs to be fixed first by calling BT Faults on 151 but do not mention broadband in the call

  • V e e e r r y   S l o o o o w  Movie Rental Download Speeds

My setup: In my home office is a cable modem connected to my locally owned and operated ISP's coax feed. It's a city operated fiber network (Ashland Fiber Network), not a ComCast/Charter/Verizon conglomerate. The modem is connected to a Time Capsule (500 MB) via ethernet. Also connected to the Time Caspsule via Ethernet is a 2.4 GHz 24" iMac. The Apple TV is in my living room about 30' away through one wood-frame wall.
I get consistent >8 Mb/sec download speeds from Speedtest.net both on my office (Ethernet) iMac and on my MacBook via 802.11g while sitting next to the Apple TV in my living room. The Apple TV shows 5 bars on its signal strength meter, and is running the latest (2.02) software. I have the Airport Utility setup to run 802.11n (802.11b/g compatible) so that it'll work with both the Apple TV and my 802.11g MacBook. There are no 2.4 GHz wireless phones in my house, and no other WiFi devices connected. There are several other WiFi networks within range in my neighborhood, but I use WPA2 Personal security to isolate my network.
My problem: I have tried only 1 SD movie download. but it took 37 minutes to reach "Ready to Play," and then choked after playing for 56 minutes. So rather than wait for more of the movie to download, I went to bed and watched the rest of it the next day. I've rented 2 HD movies, the first download notice told me that it would take 13 hours to be ready to play, and the next said 11 hours. Both times I just went to bed and watched the movie the next day.
Trailers generally take anywhere from 2-5 mins. to begin playing, and they almost always choke after about a minute and have to download more to continue playing. They play much faster on my iMac when downloaded from Apple's Quicktime site, though I can't be sure if different servers are involved there.
This scenario does not jibe at all with what Apple tells me I should expect from the Apple TV, nor with what I read about here on the Apple Discussion boards.
Things I've tried: 1) Changing the WiFi channel from Auto to a discrete channel--I've tried four different channels now. 2) Switching to 802.11n only--both at 2.4 GHz and at 5 Ghz. 3) Unplugging and removing the batteries from my 5.8 GHz wireless phones. 4) Moving the Apple TV a 6' HDMI cable's length away from the TV and sound system in my living room. 4) Resetting everything several times, even once back to 2.0 before reinstalling 2.02. 5) I even unplugged the microwave in the kitchen. About the only obvious thing I haven't yet tried is stringing an ethernet cable from my Time Capsule to the Apple TV because I don't have one that long and would rather not strip down my entire setup just to test that. But it looks like I'm going to have to.
I've had four conversations with Apple tech support, the last one after being bumped up to level 2 support. They had me do (among other things) a 100-ping test using Network Utility between the my iMac and the Apple TV--no dropped packets and the network speed was, according to them, well within spec. When I told them all the other stuff I've tried, they had no suggestion other than: "Something is interfering with your signal."
I took the Apple TV to my local Apple Authorized Dealer (the nearest Apple Store is 300 miles away). It checked out fine and ran great on their network. I got to try downloading a few trailers there and they ran almost instantaneously. Now, they informed me that their network runs at ~15 Mb/sec, but they also have about 30 computers hooked up to it.
Anyway, I read here that almost all of you are seeing much faster download speeds on your Apple TVs, even those of you with DSL. And it seems pretty clear that I'm experiencing some sort of interference here, but can't seem to locate the source. So, my question is: What other possible sources of interference might I be getting, and how might I go about locating them?

How does downloading via your iMac respond?
I haven't tried downloading a movie from iTunes to see if there's a substantial difference, and you can't rent HD movies from iTunes, only SD. Trailers download faster, but there's no telling if they're coming from the same servers as Apple TV's trailers (nor if iTunes movies are, for that matter).
I'm quick to blame the time capsule and time machine. Similar to your problems with AppleTV, I've never had time machine work properly. All it does is suck up all my resources while taking days to do anything.
Unlike some, I've had zero setup or operating problems with my Time Capsule. Works like a charm and doesn't seem to slow anything down on my iMac as far as I can tell.

  • IPad (gen 3) wifi download speeds

I recently upgraded my Comcast Internet to 50Mbps download speeds.  Using the Speedtest.app I am showing around 30 Mbps on both my iPad (gen 3) and iPhone 4s.  I was wondering if anyone has been able to achieve faster download speeds than that on an iPad/iPhone.
I was hoping that it would be faster considering my three year old Mac gets 55 Mpbs when connected via ethernet to the internet and that same Mac using wireless (in same room as wireless router and iPad/iPhone) gets over 50Mbps.
    Thanks for sharing.
p.s. I am using an Airport Extreme AC wireless router

From what you've told us, the iPad should see the printer.  No, you do not need any additional software on your iPad.  You just need to be sure the HP drivers are current.

  • Normal download speeds, incredibly slow browsing

I've got an airport extreme that I've been having problems with. I get some pretty fast download speeds when downloading a file from Safari or Firefox, anywhere between 150kb/s and 300kb/s. However, my internet browsing speed is at a crawl. It can take between 30 seconds and 1 minute to load Apple's homepage whether I'm using Safari or Firefox. Can someone help me out with this? Are there some settings I need to change? Thank you!

I was having the same problem as you. I recently (tonight) installed a new Extreme N and was noticing that this was happening.
Even Google's website was taking a while to load. What I did is changed the DNS servers from AT&T's to public ones. I'm using 4.2.2.1 & 4.2.2.2 and this seems to have corrected the problem. Browsing is back to normal speeds, but I'd be skeptic to call this a "fix", since it's been about 20 minutes since I made the chance, so I'm not sure if this will really fix it, but if you want to try it you've got nothing to lose.
Let me know if it helps!

  • BT Infinity and weird download speeds

    Greetings!
This is the first time I've been with BT, I always had virgin media then when I moved out I was forced to go with Sky for my broadband which they could only manage 3-4mb. I've recently had BT infinity installed (3-4 weeks now) and I'm not sure what to make of it.
Although Sky's download speed was lower, I seemed to get more out of it. In the way of I can see on speedtest.net and speedtester.bt that my ping is low (15ms) and my speed is often between 30-35mb (funnily enough tonight it's sitting at 25mb) however p2p traffic is slow (yes I know it's throttled) but even over Internet explorer it's slow. If I was download a file, say a windows update or a patch for a game with sky I would get a constant 1-2mb download speed with bt it never goes over 200-300kb. Surely this can't be normal?
I may give BT a ring but due to work hours it'll most likely be on the weekend now. Just seems strange that everything points to a decent download speed but when it actually comes to downloading it's pretty slow.
Thanks in advance for any tips/help/suggestions.

Hi, Thanks for your reply. At present I have my laptop done over wireless using a b/g/n/ adapter. To be honest I have yet to try and connect my laptop directly to the router as this kinda defeats the point? I'm assuming you're thinking along the lines of I should get faster download speeds over a wired connection, which i agree with. But, surely 300kb is still low on a 40mb connection?
I'm in work at the moment so can't check out the test results. But will post them later.
    Thanks,

  • Help! Play store download speeds are extremely slow

Hey guys, I just got my galaxy s4 a couple of days ago and I am just encountering a new problem. When I try to download an app from the play store it takes FOREVER to download it, I'm talking 10kb/s. Does anyone know of this problem and a solution for it? Thanks a ton!

        Good morning tony12345,
Let's speed things up for you! Your Galaxy S4 is capable of much faster downloading speeds. Ensure that LTE/CDMA is selected http://vz.to/18J32hS and make sure to disable WiFi. Also confirm your coverage signal http://bit.ly/qQR9lM as low speeds are normal for areas with extended coverage.

  • Extremely Slow Download Speeds when MacBook Pro is not plugged in.

I have a MacBook Pro 17" that I bought in May of 2007. I have Verizon High Speed DSL service. I have a Netgear wireless router. When my MacBook Pro is plugged in to a power outlet, it has very fast download speeds. As soon as I unplug it, it slows way down. I am talking like 2 or 3 minutes to load a page that would normally take about 1 second. Is there a setting I can change?

i have a similar problem. My MBP is taking a while to load pages. I dont know if its my internet speeds or my computer.

  • Slow download speed on my macbook pro compared to windows.

    Hello,
When i use my macbook pro to download a file i hit very slow download speeds (50 kb/s tops), compared to fast download speeds in vista using boot camp (300 kb/s tops) and the same when i use my brothers PC.
Anyone know how i can fix this or why it might be happening?
    thanks

    Common strategies:
    * Use ethernet instead of wireless.
    * Get a better/upgraded ISP.
    * Get a better/upgraded router.
    * Get a newer mac.

  • Varying download speeds

when i download off of software update i get a really fast download speed, but when i download the doom 3 demo it is really slow (at the beggining it starts off at around 60KBps and drops really low, lower than 10KBps sometimes, and it wont go back up. and it tries to mount too early causing the mounting to fail. i do not know why it does it (10MB of 465MB it mounts unless i have a fast download speed) whats up with airport? i also have AirTrafficControll widget and i can connect to networks that way too. Also do i need airport 4.2 if i have airport Extreme?

    Thanks for the info.
When you have a chance, you might want to recheck your settings for the Time Capsule base station and Express remotes, as it's easy to miss a step during configuration.
AirPort Utility is used to configure all devices and you can click the Manual Setup button to save time and access the settings.
For the Time Capsule, click the Wireless tab just below the row of icons at the top of the setup page. On the wireless settings page, the Wireless Mode would be "Create a wireless network" and there should be a check mark next to "Allow this network to be extended". That's it for the TC.
For both of the Expresses, click the Wireless tab as above. On the wireless page, the Wireless Mode should be set to "Extend a wireless network". The network created by the TC should be displayed. Also make sure there is a check mark next to "Allow wireless clients". That's it for the Expresses.
I believe that you could also configure the Express that you have set to "Join" to "extend" as well. This setting seemed to work for AirTunes when I tried it a few weeks ago. If that's the case, you will also have a 3rd Express "extending" the wireless network.
As a frame of reference, I have 2 Express units that I normally use to extend and the speed remains constant within 5-10% in virtually all locations within the house and even out on the patio. Unless you do have some interference issues, (use iStumbler, www.istumbler.net to check), I think you should expect very good wireless performance.
One note to point out if you are using 802.11n 5 GHz. The higher frequencies of this band are absorbed much more quickly than the 2.4 GHz band, so you will see a much steeper drop off in speed with distance and any minor obstructions on 5 GHz.

  • Re: BT Infinity 2 IP Profile - Download Speed "Cap...

My BT Infinity 2 IP Profile has been consistently the same for nearly 2 years since I first signed-up for it and became available in my area, i.e. Upload Speed (US) = Up to 20 Mbps  / Download Speed (DS) = Up to 77.47 Mbps.  I was regularly getting US = 14-17 Mbps / DS = 73-75 Mbps.  Upon doing regular speed checks on my line using the BT Wholesale site, about 4 weeks ago, I noticed my IP Profile DS was reduced to/capped at (Up to) 65.74 Mbps.  Since, I have been receiving the same US as before but DS = 62-64 Mbps.
FYI, I have attached two screenshots but I am reluctant to give my phone number openly on here so can you provide a means for me to send it privately please.
I initially contacted BT Broadband Faults a few times, they did the usual bull**bleep** basic checks to make sure it wasn't my equipment and to give it 10 days to see if it was DLM.  I even hooked up a BT HH5 router to ensure any further line testing was done by the BT book.  After several days, it was evident it wasn't DLM despite BT Broadband Faults insistence to give it several more days until around 11.04.15, to which I did.  By this time, it was crystal clear it was not DLM and Broadband Faults were obtuse upon my persistence that I wanted the specific reason as to why my DS had been reduced/capped by 11 Mbps, and tried to palm me off with excuses such as "copper wire degredation". They refused to contact OpenReach or report it to them.
Note, I had a phone line fault in early Feb 2015 which the OpenReach Telephone Engineer changed lines to fix the fault at my local cabinet.  I was their when he did this and showed me that there weren't many Infinity customers locally.  My line speeds remained the same after and all stable.  I can rule out cross-talk.
I have made 3 complaints via the BT portal regarding this issue and all resulting call-backs have originated from India. Not one can categorically tell me the specific reason why I have, in essence, had my DS capped.  Just the usual bull**bleep** guesses by people not technically qualified to make such diagnoses.  All have been obtuse and said that my current DS remains within the terms of my contract, blah, and refuse to give me a reduction in price of my BT bill.  I accept this is correct, but they will NOT tell me the exact reason why my DS has been reduced/capped!!!!
I do not think it is unreasonable to demand to know the specific reason why the product I pay for has been reduced without an honest explanation why.
Please can you look into my case and any feedback would be much appreciated as this frustrating me a lot.

Sounds like you are being affected by the G.INP rollout to Huawei cabs but the modem being incompatible with it.

  • Why am I only getting 0.24mbs download speed on my ipad over my wifi when my Microsoft laptop is working massively faster?

Why am I only getting 0.24mbs download speed & 0.47mbs upload speed on my ipad over my wifi when my Microsoft laptop is working massively faster?
I have a EE BrightBox wifi router and other devices in the house are working perfectly only problem I have is with my Apple products.

    Hi,
Don't have a Mac, using new ipad,  iPhone 5&4s both with ios7 but it's soo slow, Microsoft laptop is working fine over wifi so it has to be Apple devices that have the problem. Have tried all of the suggested fixes on forums but still no joy.

  • Upload speed very slow, but download speed fast.

I have a wrtp54g router (4 wired, 1 wireless and 2 voip). On my laptop with wireless connection I have a fast down and upload speed. But on my PC with wired connection, I have a faster download connection and almost no upload connection. Tested on testmy.net. Can someone help me?

    Thanks for you're reply.
I've 1 wired PC and a XBOX360 wired. But I tested the same wired connection of my PC with my laptop --> same problem. I also tested the different ports on my router with my PC --> same problem. I recently discovered that when I only use 1 wired connection port on my router, my PC (disconnected my XBOX and also my 2 useless connections (which used to be plugged in to connect in different rooms of my house). I have a faster upload (1.2 MB) speed then before (0.2MB), it doesn't matter which port I use on my router. But still slower then my wireless connection (1.6MB).
Offcourse, last night worked everthing fine when I wanted to adjust the MTU settings. 1.7 MB upload with the different MTU settings and al my ports filled with connections.
