Podcast scrolling stutters in iOS 8.1

Just upgraded my iPhone 5 to iOS 8.1 yesterday and now when I open up a podcast and scroll through the list of podcasts the scrolling is far from buttery smooth.
It now stutters, jerks and is generally choppy when trying to scroll through the podcasts I have on my phone.
Anyone else experiencing this?  It sounds like it was an issue way back in iOS 3, but it seems a problem now with iOS 8.1  (maybe 8.0.2, I don't know because I went from iOS 7 straight to 8.1).
This is super annoying and very un-Apple like in terms of the interface.

Hi Attiq 123,
Thanks for the question. It sounds like you are experiencing issues with your network connection, specifically when connecting to Apple services like iCloud and the iTunes Store. The following resource provides some troubleshooting steps that you can try:
Can't connect to the iTunes Store - Apple Support
http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201400
You may also need to test to see if the specific ports on your Wi-Fi network are accessible:
iTunes: Advanced iTunes Store troubleshooting - Apple Support
http://support.apple.com/en-us/TS3297
Make sure the issue is with the iTunes Store only. (You need an Internet connection to access the iTunes Store).
Open a secure website to test if you are online as is necessary for the iTunes Store. This also tests if the main ports 80 and 443 are accessible. If the website works but the iTunes Store does not, it is most likely a firewall blocking the iTunes software or servers. If this is the case, follow the steps in the "Blocked by software firewall" section below.

When will apple sort out the scrolling issues on iOS versions of iTunes and the App Store?
It seems impossible to get the horizontal scrolling to work smoothly and in a way that doesn't result in some albums/apps in the row being skipped.

Working fine for me. Have tried resetting or restoring?

  • Scrolling stutters after upgrade to iOS 4.0.1

I have noticed yesterday after I upgraded to iOS 4.0.1 that scrolling down through a long list started to stutter. It is especially noticeable in the App Store when I first begin to scroll down. If I scroll down and then scroll back up and down again it is smooth. So it just stutters when first loading the data.
Anybody else noticed this? Or is this normal?
Is there a way to downgrade to iOS 4? I find this stuttering really annoying and the upgrade didn't do anything for my antenna anyway. If I do a restore will that bring my phone back to the way it was before the upgrade?
P.S. I closed all apps in the multitasking pane and did a hard reset but this did not make any difference.
    Thank you

I have attempted to upgrade however it hasn't yet worked. It has seemed to technically "brick" my iPhone to the point it does not start and the update has yet to work.. http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2509639&tstart=0
It seems to usually be an alright thing to upgrade.. but why.. this just doesn't seem like something that should've happened to me. I hope this works it self out.. I'm sort of ticked right now.

  • IPhone 6 scrolling stutters !!!!

I Have been using iphone 5s for quite a long time.
just bought iPhone 6 64gb and ftom the same day. I can clearly notice the most irritating SCROLLING STUTTER problem. Which is the most annoying thing ever in any smartphone. My iPhone 5s works way better and smooth as compared to iPhone 6.
I request apple to please do something about it.
    Apart from scrolling.
    1. Control center doesnt respond sometimes
    2. Touch becomes unresponsive, when i showed it to apple care they said its a minor thing and we dont consider it as a problem.
I Hope you guys do something about it. The worst of all is SCROLLING STUTTE PROBLEM.
    just do something about it.

Hello - I have the same problem but it appears to have only started after I downloaded and installed iOS 8.1.3.
The other thing mine will do once the scroll starts stuttering is that it unintentionally clicks on random buttons or other parts of the touch screen when I'm not even touching it there.  As a result, mine is much more significant than just a scrolling stutter.  It's actually made me send emails before I was ready to do so because the Send button was mysteriously tapped without my touching it.
Anyone with any knowledge of this issue?  Might it just be a bug that they can fix or is there a hardware problem with my phone itself?

  • Problems with iTunes and Podcasts after upgrade to iOS 8.1.3.

I upgraded my iPhone 5 to iOS 8.1.3, then I purchased some music on iTunes.
While hearing the music, incomming call shut the Music player down. From that time on, cannot open neither Music, nor iTunes Store, Podcasts, Settings/General/About, (Nike) Running, ...
Does not solve the issue: Restart iphone, restore from the back-up
    Advice appreciated

  • HT5295 How do I play video podcasts on my TV via the Podcasts app? After iOS 6 upgrade, I'm unable to do this.

I used to be able to play video podcasts on my TV by connecting my iPod touch to the TV via an Apple AV cable.  Now that I've upgraded to ios 6 and the podcasts app got installed along with the upgrade, video podcasts will no longer play on my TV.  It should be noted that other video content (movies, TV shows, etc) will play properly.  Is there a setting I need to make that will fix this, or is this yet another bug with the podcasts app? Also, I have to say that I'm not happy at all with the Podcasts app, so if there's a way to uninstall it without harming the functionality of ios 6, that would be great.

I found a workaround that puts podcasts back in the video app as well as the music app so you can watch them on TV via an AV cable again.
The instructions can be found at this video:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uaI9GwPKXkE
    In short:
    1. Make sure both the music and podcast app aren't running on your iPhone.
    2. Plug your iPhone into your computer and disable Podcast syncing for your iPhone in iTunes.
    3. Remove the podcast app from your iPhone
    4. Plug your iPhone into your computer again and turn on podcast syncing, then sync.
    5. Turn off and then back on your iPhone.
After I did this, I found podcasts had returned to being listed in my music and video apps.
    Hope this helps you too!

  • Podcasts not working in iOS 7

I manually manage my podcasts using a PC running Win 7. Never had a problem before instaling iTunes 11.0 then 11.1. Now when I try and play a podcast on my 5s a window pops up on the iPhone with the following msg: Use Cellular Data   "Would you like to temporarily turn on cellular data in order to play back this streaming episode?"  "Now Now or Turn On" To my knowledge I have not selected any automatic downloads or streaming.
I can play the podcasts fine on my 4s which is running iOS 7 as well.
Guess I should have waited until the debugging was over before going with iOS 7 or maybe it's the fault of iTunes
    Any ideas?

I just started having this same problem.  I don't know for sure but after reading a few posts I'm thinking I figured out the issue. I recently signed into icloud with a diff iTunes account bc I wanted to separate my wife's calendar from mine. I think the shortcuts are associated with each icloud account. I know this bc I remember being shocked that all my shortcuts were working on our iPads and other iPhones. They were all logged into the same icloud acct.  They all are still acknowledging the shortcuts but not my iphone. You'll have to revert to the other icloud acct or rewrite your shortcuts. I'm going to get one of my iPads and take screenshots of the shortcuts and just reset them. Maybe Apple will provide a way to transfer them, but don't hold your breath.

  • Podcasts, iTunes U in iOS 5: Music vs Video

There appears to be some unintended mixup in iOS 5's splitting the original iPod app into Music and Video.  Now video podcasts go to Video, and voice only podcasts go to "Music."  Whilest looking for voice podcasts in "Music" app is merely a semantic mismatch, a more comic mixup is that iTunes U, which contains mostly video content, is still availble in the Music app, the only iPod offspring that allows users to "Configure" home buttons. (To invoke, go to "More" if iTunes U is not in your home screen.)
Both apps invoke the same "Store" interface, but the "Library" button is context aware - meaning you can download audio-only content from Video app and video content from Music app, even though you may not find the content you've just downloaded when you click the "Library" button.
Anyone else find the new Video app's navigation limiting?  It sports a single vertical linear list in the order of Movies, TV Shows, Podcasts, and iTunes U.  If you have a long list of movies/TV shows, it'll take you quite some sweat to get to Podcasts and iTunes U.  Whereas you can still access iTunes U via Music app, you're out of luck for video podcasts, because the Podcast list in Music app displays voice-only podcasts only.

Having the same issue except for the crashes. Everything seems to be working, just not the way it used to. The enhanced podcasts were great, the ones that I subscribed to changed the backgrounds often and linked to other sites and gave some great info. Now... Nothing!
I have been reading that everyone is having issues with podcasts and the button to get new episodes, or whatever it was called, and this may just be another glitch. I sure wish they could fix it. I listen to podcasts more that I ever listened to music.

  • Where can I find my old audio podcasts since upgrading to iOS 5

I use podcasts a lot on my i-phone. Since upgrading to iOS 5, the podbast icon has gone and there was a messgae about the ppodcasts being under Video. However, while Video comes up, I can't see my pdcasts. Any iddeas?

Try turning the account off and on : Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars , then tap the account on the right, slide Mail to 'off', exit settings and go back into the Mail app, and then go back to Settings and slide Mail back to 'on'
If that doesn't work then try closing the Mail app completely : from the home screen (i.e.not with the Mail app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Mail app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
Also do a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • Problem in updating applications and downloading podcasts after upgrading to iOS 6

Recently I have downloaded iOS 6.  Since then I cannot download podcasts and cannot update applications

Haha, thanks for the tip! I was just curious if anyone had this problem at all. I just found it odd that before iOS 6, I had version 5.1 (which came standard with my iPad at the time) and there was no delay. You click on/off button for Airplane Mode or WiFi and the function would turn on or off instantly... Just annoying have to wait several seconds for a response. Thanks for the input though.

  • Why is there no option to play podcasts in itunes on iOS 7?

I used to download and play podcasts on my iPhone. Since updating to iOS 7, there no longer seems to be a tab or option for podcasts.  Is there a way to get this back?

Ok, nevermind. Just downloaded the one from Apple.  No idea why they would delete this from iTunes in the first place.  Grrr.  Then again, I also wish they would not have changed the Radio function on iTunes to go from streaming actual radio stations to making it like a Pandora. I used to love listening to my favorite radio stations via iTunes.

  • Scroll stuttering and loss of touch screen control

Since downloading IOS 8.1.3, my iPhone6 has begun doing some really crazy stuff when I am scrolling up or down with my finger.  Its not 100% all of the time but when it happens, initially, the scrolling will begin to stutter away from my finger, followed by a complete loss of control over the touch screen.  At that point, random buttons all over the screen will be getting clicked as if I was touching them, but I'm not.
This has been consistent across all apps and has only begun for me following iOS 8.1.3.
Has anyone else experienced this problem or know of a solution?  Thanks.

Same exact problem as you have on my iPhone 6, and same cause - 8.1.3. I am not even going to install 8.2 for fear of more, new bugs. Nothing on the list of bug fixes for 8.2 says anything about this shaky screen and things being clicked on their own problem.
Any luck with this issue being fixed with 8.2? Anyone still experiencing this with 8.2?
