Possible to automatically import, apply develop settings, then export?

Is it possible to completely automate the process of:
1. Import an image
2. Apply some develop settings to the image
3. Export the image
Without any user interaction?
(Gnarly workarounds are acceptable, as long as it's fully automated.)

Assuming SDK 3.0 or better, then yes.
- catalog:addPhotos
- photo:applyDevelopPreset
- create LrExportSession and do export.

  • Problem Re-applying Develop settings after roundtrip to photoshop!

I am having a very annoying problem with re applying develop settings back to an image after touching up in photoshop.
    Here is my basic workflow.
1 - import camera files to lightroom (Raw .cr2 Files)
2 - make slects and experiment with color develop settings.
3 - Rest all develop settings.
4 - send to photoshop for skin touch ups via edit in photoshop. OR export .DNG files for my touch up artist.
5 - Re import into lightroom via saving from photoshop to up date the copy it makes or just re-importing if it was a DNG i exported
6 - copy the develop settings from the original then pasting onto the edited version.
When I do this paste the develop settings the image gets totally blown out and is not at all close to the original develop settings I had decided on.
Note: before pasting the develop settings the touched up file is IDENTICAL to the reset original.
This is a Major problem for me and totally makes it impossible to match the original effect.
What am I doing wrong here?

So what should the workflow be?
Do your best on RAW in Lightroom, edit in Photoshop (16bpc, ProPhoto) for final touches that Lightroom cannot accomplish (retouch skin etc.).
if I do an effect then send to photoshop to edit and then back to lightroom is some of the color information lost? say if my effect is really blowing out the whites and I want to change it post photoshop edit am I able to get that color information back?
No, if you blow the highlight in raw, you cannot get them back from a PSD. The point is not to blow them if you don't wish to, then there will be nothing to recover fro a PSD. But if your artistic choice was to blow the highlights in a picture, then there's on difference when you blow them and no point in wishing
to recover them on a latter stage.
Do the photoshop files have the same color range as the raws?
Yes, if you use the ProPhoto RGB space and 16bpc bit depth.

  • Is there a way of getting Firefox to automaticly import the Explorer settings upon install?

    Hi!
I'm trying to repack Firefox 3.6.3 into a MSI for a deployment install trough-out our organization. Since we're using Explorer as the default browser at the moment our users have all their bookmarks and such stored in Explorer. Now I'm wondering..
Is there a way of getting Firefox to automaticly import the Explorer settings upon install?
    -Without having the wizard popup.
I also don't want Firefox to be the default browser since the users have to decide for them self. But atleast they have there bookmarks / defaultpage and proxy settings if they decide to go for Firefox.

I'm not sure if you have the capability, but did you try copying from your premiere sequence and then pasting into your after fx timeline? i was working with a MUCH shorter video with a mix of merged clips (interview footage) and video clips (b-roll). the video clips imported, but the merged clips did not. i put the timeline cursor to the right point in the after fx timeline, copied the premiere clip from the sequence, pasted it into after fx.

I don't think you understand: I want to open Dreamweaver and build a brand new site, then when I am done I want to host the dreamweaver site on the Business Catalyst platform. I dont want to use anything in BC to build the site, I just want to use the hosting platform. I do not want to import a BC site into dreamweaver or anything like that. I just want to use BC the same way I would use godaddy, or uhost or any other hosting provider. Based on your response you said that "of course its possible to build a BC site in Dreamweaver" I dont want to build a BC site, I want to build a Dreamweaver site and host it on the BC platform. Like I said before it doesnt seem like this is possible. As of now we can only build a new site in MUSE and integrate it into BC without using a BC template. Can you understand what I am saying. I DONT WANT TO USE A BC TEMPLATE, I WANT NOTHING TO DO WITH BC WHILE I AM BUILDING THE SITE WITH DREAMWEAVER, JUST LIKE MUSE DOES.

  • Problem with JPGs Downlaoded with Nikon Transfer - Can't Apply Develop Settings in Bridge CS4 and ACR 5.3 Settings Don't Stick

I have found what I believe is a "problem" with JPGs downloaded using Nikon Transfer (ver 1.4.1) and processing same in Adobe Bridge CS4 (Develop Settings) and/or Adobe Camera Raw 5.3 (Photoshop CS4 and Elements 6 as hosts).
Anyone using these programs in their workflow?
The problem, quite simply, is that neither ACR settings (nor Bridge CS4 Develop Settings) "stick" when applied to JPGs that have been downloaded via Nikon Transfer ver 1.4.1.
The same images from the same cameras (D300 and D90), downloaded moments later using Nikon's predecessor software PictureProject work just fine in both Bridge and ACR.  Develop Settings appled in Bridge immediately are seen, and JPGs opened in ACR, and settings applied, then "Done" immediately stick and are reflected in Bridge.
If someone else is processing their JPGs in this manner, please let me know, as I have reported the problem to both Nikon and Adobe, and although I have tested it on two different cameras and two differnt laptops, I would like to get an impartial result as well.
One other test, the problem does not seem to affect Nikon's RAW (NEF) format files downloaded from a D2x using Nikon Transfer.  More/different test are forthcoming.
    Thanks

Can't say one way or another on that statement about using manufacturers' software.  Since Adobe has to interpret each camera models' RAW format having the latest ACR seems to be the best option.  But if the manufacturers' software is more convenient, and you get the same results then use it.  But it does appear you are not getting what you want, so suggest you try a duplicate test run with images straight from the card reader to Bridge and see if you still have same problems.
I do know it is widely recommended that using a quality card reader gives you more reliable data than getting the pictures straight from the camera.  Does not seem intuitive, but that has been experience of many.

  • How to efficently apply development settings from DNG to RAW?

    Hi,
two years ago, after switching to only shoot RAW, I let LR convert my RAWs to DNG on import (app. 1.000 pictures), but later stopped that again due to the slow process and continued to work on my original RAWs only. Now I'm left with 1.000 developed DNGs and 10.000 RAWS.
What would be the most efficiant way to transfer the development setting of my DNGs to the correspinding RAWs?
    Best,
    Max

    Hi Max
The only way I can think of is manual process e.g. import the raw files then select the DNG and corresponding raw and synchronize settings.
If batches of the DNG’s have shared develop settings you might be able to speed up the process by choosing a representative DNG and then synchronizing a whole bunch of raw files.

  • Import of duplicates of existing images not getting LR3-applied develop settings

I'm probably missing something - clarification most appreciated.
I created a duplicate folder of 1298 images, previously processed by LR3, with metadata written into sidecar files.  XMP files were in the duplicate folder.
Examining images in LR4 develop module reveals none of the previous adjustments.
What have I missed, what do I need to do?  I tried Synchronize Folder, but that didn't do it.
    Thanks,
    Bruce

    Bruce,
The images in your directory are the original imports you did and which not updated by subsequent editing adjustments.  Opening the image in Lightroom loads the original image and applies edits made that are stored in the LR database.  In other words, the adjusted image you see on your screen doesn't really exist anywhere as it is the original plus the history of edits applied each time you open it.  The only way to have a file with the finished inage is to export it.
I have not tried it yet, but was thinking of exporting to DNG from LR3 and importing into LR4b to see if the history of edits came with it.  Even if not, I sould end up with the image as I left it in LR3.
    Hope that helps.

  • Applying Develop settings to new batch of images

I recently processed a load of raw images, changing most of the settings in the Develop menu, including adjusting the tone curve.
I have a new set of images I want to process in exactly the same way, but I can't seem to recover the settings from the first batch. It seems like this should be a fairly simple process - any tips?
I have a .dcp profile that I assumed I would be able to apply, but it doesn't appear to do anything.

Why not create a preset and then you can apply it to any batch of selected images or on import. Start by choosing one of your finished images and in Develop click on the plus sign to the right of presets in the left hand panel. Give it a name and save it as a user preset.

  • Is it possible to AUTOMATICALLY import taxonomies?

    Hello!
The process of import of complete taxonomy consists of the following steps:
    1. Import the hierarchy into the taxonomy table.
    2. Import the attributes into the attributes table.
    3. Import the attribute text values into the attribute text values table.
    4. Import the node-specific attribute links into the attribute links table.
I created a map (including last 3 steps, as I already have the hierarchy in taxonomy table) and port (Automatic).
But when I try to import using MDIS it imports only attributes, in other words performs only step 2.
Is it possible to perform these three steps one by one automatically?
    Thanks,
    Vika

    Hello, everybody!
    Thanks for the answers!
Nitin, could you explain more detailed how can I use joins and lookups?
I have the source XML-file with the following structure:
    <ELEMENTS>
    <ELEMENT>
      <Attribute_Name>Some_Name1</Attribute_Name>
      <Attribute_Value>Value11</Attribute_Value>
      <Attribute_Value>Value12</Attribute_Value>
    </ELEMENT>
    <ELEMENT>
      <Attribute_Name>Some_Name2</Attribute_Name>
      <Attribute_Value>Value21</Attribute_Value>
      <Attribute_Value>Value22</Attribute_Value>
    </ELEMENT>
    </ELEMENTS>
And my task is to import Attribute names into [Attributes] talble of taxonomy, Attribute values into [Text values] of taxonomy and the value of [Links] table of taxonomy is some constant, depending of the port, for which the map is created. So I would like to import into three destination tables for taxonomy in one map.
Is it the case of using joins and lookups? If yes, then could you explain what should I do?
    Thanks,
    Vika

  • Import preset change of develop settings saving problem.

I think this is a bug:
    In Library/ Import
When I want to change Apply during Import/ the Develop Settings, the my existing Import Preset cannot be updated with this change.
I only can create a new Import Preset with that.
But anyway if I change to another Import Preset the Develop Settings do not change and stay with the settings I did choose in the previous Import Preset.
The newly created Import Preset works fine though in LR 3.6.
    Frans

This is the behaviour under LR3 :
Left down corner My Import Preset with Right top corner Develop Settings  set to None
Now when I change the Develop Setting to B&W
the Import Preset name changes to DMC-GF1 ©CFW Rename (Edited)
That does not work in LR4.
Keep up the Good Work ,Victoria ! Thanks.

  • Include Develop settings in metadata have no effect

    Hi.
I've just discovered that option in the "Catalog Settings -> Include Develop settings in metadata inside JPEG, TIFF and PSD files" have no effect.
I tested this with JPEG and TIFF inside LR 3.3 RC1, but it looks like this issue is present even in LR 2.x too.
No matter what you option is, develop settings are always included into the XMP.
I have exported the same image with this option on and off and they are binary equal except creation date in the XMP.
Develop settings are always there, no matter what you have selected in options.

This is sounding like normal behaviour.  It should only apply when writing metadata back to original files.
The 'include Develop settings in XMP' checkbox dates back to the early days when ACR was just starting to be able to process rendered files.  It was automatically opening any rendered files into the ACR dialog if there were Develop settings found in the metadata.  The checkbox prevented those settings being written to those originals so that you could open directly into PS and bypass the dialog, and additional options have since been added to the Camera Raw preferences in Bridge/PS to allow you to use or ignore those settings too.
Once the files are being exported, there's a line in the metadata that says <crs:AlreadyApplied>True</crs:AlreadyApplied> which prevents those Develop settings being applied again.
If you want to exclude Develop settings from exported files, you can either check the 'minimize embedded metadata' checkbox in the Export dialog to remove all metadata, or use Jeffrey's Metadata Wrangler plug-in to specify which metadata to exclude.

  • Import tags from another catalogue without develop settings

How do I import tags from another catalogue but not the develop settings of each image?
    Here's whats going on:
I started with 5000 images on a hard drive. I gave a copy to someone else working on the project.
I physically moved images into real folders and edited all the shots.
She left all the images where they originally were and tagged each image.
I want to combine her tags with the edits that I've done, with the images in their new locations I've made.
I have a copy of her catalogue file.
I tried importing her catalogue into mine- which will pull her metadata tags, but only also with pulling her develop settings which resets all my work.
How can I import ONLY her metadata tags?
I can't open her catalogue and write the tags into XML sidecars because I've moved the images from where her catalogue says they are.
I realize we should have done this differently from the beginning, but with that being said- if I could import only her metadata tags then that should work. But Lightroom 4 only gives the options of importing BOTH metadata and develop settings.
    Any ideas?

One option (backup your catalog first):
    * Import her catalog (apply metadata and develop changes), which adds a "Paste Settings" step to the edit history.
    * Restore previous develop settings using ScrewAutoSync, to roll back the settings by one step, to pre-"Paste Settings" state. - just make sure you *don't* do this to photos that weren't changed by the catalog import. One way to do that is to apply a no-op (do nothing) preset to all photos before importing the catalog (that way if you inadvertently roll 'em back one, they'll be the same as they were). You must create a no-op preset by hand, or use this:
    http://www.robcole.com/LrForumSupport/Clear Edit History.lrtemplate
(hint: context-click & select "save link as")
    There are probably other options.

  • Some imported tifs given some RAW develop settings

For a long time I have processed files in other apps and imported the tif files into Lightroom for printing, slide shows and web galleries. Today I processed a group of files in Capture One 5, adjusted them in Photoshop CS4 and saved them as tifs.  When imported to lightroom 2.5 many of them are displayed with very, very high contrast and brighter than they appeared in Photoshop.  Some look fine. Most have adjustment layers, but that doesn't seem to make a difference, some with layers are displayed properly while others have look awful.  What is happening is that is that Lightroom is applying the same brightness and contrast settings (50 and 20 respectively) to some of the Tifs as it would to RAW files, but only those two develop settings and only to about half the files.  Clicking the reset button clears up the issue. Does anyone know why this is happening? The same this occurs to the same files in LR 3, but Photoshop, Aperture and Photo Mechanic display them properly.
    Thanks in advance,
    Peter

    inforumman,
    Your questions:
    a) Correct, but saving to XMP does NOT replace saving in the Lr catalog. Save to XMP is in addition to saving in the catalog.
    b) The wording "saving the XMP" is a bit misleading, insofar as an XMP-file will be created only in case of Raw files, whereas with TIFFs, JPGs, PSDs the metadata (edits or other metadata) is written into (the header of) the image file - but NOT into the image pixels.
    c) As LRuser24 already said, it is not possible to have Lr write an XMP-file for JPGs, or for TIFFs, or for PSDs.

  • LR2 - Auto Import develop settings won't stick.

As the subject says, in LR2 changes made to the develop settings preference in the auto import settings dialogue do not stick. I can select a different develop preset, but after closing the settings dialogue, new images import with the original preset. If I open the settings window again, the develop settings preference has been reset to their original state.
I've tried two computers and have the same result on both. Trashing prefs does nothing, but creating a new catalog seems to reset the auto import prefs dialogue, but whatever develop settings I select becomes fixed and unchangeable.
I use LR's auto import feature to work tethered with my MF digital setup on every project - it is crucial to my current workflow. This bug is small, but significant and will probably have me going back to V1 until I can find a fix so any help is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Andy
(oh yeah, both systems are intel macs -- an iMac and a macbook pro -- and are up to date running osX 10.5.4)

Yes, I get the same thing with the sliders being greyed out. Funny thing is that the sliders *are* set exactly as in my preset and when I click 'yes update' to 2010 standards, the settings don't change but only the sliders become accessible. The thing is that I really don't want to be doing that with every import, even if you can do the whole batch at once. What I don't understand is that when I import with the preset turned off and apply it in Lightroom's Develop Module, it accepts it without a problem but that when I use the same preset on import, it won't work properly.
Now what the poster in the other thread said was:
"When I saved a new preset and selected to also save the process version,  a line in the preset was created:  ProcessVersion = "5.7".  When I cut  and paste that into all my other presets then the sliders were all  active when I used them."
I have no idea what he is talking about or how one would do that. When I create a preset I simply click the + sign and in the pop up window select what I want, give it a name and that's it.
Edit: Sorry, I apparently overlooked the Process Version box in the preset panel! Must have been a case of not seeing the forest for the trees. Problem solved. Thanks.
