Prime Infrastructure with Mesh Networks

My customer has a Mesh network at a sea port.  They have about 15 mesh access points at each location with two controllers each.  Would Prime Infrastructure work with a mesh deployment?  There is a lot of interference and sometimes the performance of the network is affected.  I want to use the WCS portion of Prime, to manage the mesh coverage, parent/child relationship between the RAP's and MAP's.
Please let me know if Prime is something I can suggest to my customer to ease the management of the mesh network.
Thanks,
Scott

Hi Scott
Prime is the replacement for wcs. Wcs isn't supported past code 7.0.

  • Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.2 - Network Topology error

    He dears,
My Customer has installed over UCS Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.2.
The network is composed with Switches nexus 93962-px and 2960x. All devices were discovered and inventoried successfully.
The problems is that Network Topology is not showing the connections between devices. Some devices connections are showed (partially) and another not.
We've already checked that CDP is run and working fine on all of switches.
    I appreciate your help!
    Tks,
    Regis

I'm sorry to say that but Prime Infrastructure does not support IP SLA functionality similar to Cisco Prime LMS:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/netmgtsw/ps6504/ps6528/ps12239/guide_c07-729089.html
It's in the developer's plans but there's no schedule yet for this feature.
It's possible to manually configure IP SLA on the device and then define Custom SNMP templates in Prime Infrastructure and poll whatever information you might consider relevant.
This isn't user friendly (exact OID needs to be typed manually) and is a bit quite complicated, though.
    -Thanks

  • Second WLC 5508 for HA N+1 with Mesh Network

    Hi,
End user has a WLC 5508  and around 12 LAPs (an increasing un short time) configured and working for mesh network (some ROOTs and MAPs)
now is the way to deploy an additional 5508 in another site  so that be the backup of the first controller.
Taking into account that is a mesh network what would be the options in WLC's config so that we can have the shortest time for LAPs to associate to
    the backup controller?
    I appreciate your comments
    regards

yes, wlcs can be on different sites. be sure to configure primary, secondary wlc name and ip on those APs.

  • Prime Infrastructure 2.2 - Network Topology View - Spanning Tree View

    Hello Team,
Is it possible on PI 2.2 (latest version) under Maps/Network Topology View to be able to "monitor" the spanning-tree performance?
    thanks in advance,
    George

Sorry but that's not a currently offered feature.
It would be nice - the Netsys product that Cisco acquired 18-1/2 years ago (and subsequently abandoned) used to do this quite nicely.

  • Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.1 to setup Discovered Devices in Dashboard Detail auto refresh in 3 minutes

    Hi all:
I found out that the discovered devices (after successful scanning) in the main Dashboard Detail cannot or take very long time to auto-refreshing the status change.
May I know is there any way by Command Line at the "Root" (I am using an OVA version) or by setting inside the Prime Infrastructure with GUI method to do scheduled Refreshing on the Dashboard Detail?
    Thanks!

    Hi all:
I have tried using Designing Monitoring Template to set the Health Check Polling time from default 15 minutes to 5 minutes and also tried also 1 minute.
The result is 5 minutes is working but 1 minute is not working.
May I know any one can help on this?
    Many thanks!

  • Cisco Prime infrastructure Change severity Switches and hubs - link down alarm

Hi, I want to change the severity of the link down alarm in the Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.3, but in the menu Administration -> System Settings -> Severity Configuration i can not find the alarm. Some body knows where is it? o where i can change the severity of that alarm?
    Thanks in advanced.

    Hi Rollin and Daniel,
the first test i did changing the severity was with a new installation, with no devices added and it worked, when i did it in a Prime infrastructure with devices added it didn´t work, well, for this Prime with devices i upgraded it with the patch for 1.3 version and now it works too, the alarms is ok as the alarm severity, this is the link for the patch:

  • Cisco Prime Infrastructure MESH LINK ISSUE

    Hi,
a Customer of us has a trouble with cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.2.0.12 and AP mesh link.
There is an huge database ( i suppose the issue can be here ) and when we display some map ( each floor has about 6 RAP and 24 MAP ) we cannot see the MESH information and link draw.
The only way to dipley them is to disable "refresh from network": this way I'm able to show these link..... until a click before.
What i noticied when all was working fine, after i click to some floor:
    1) the software started to show the map with normal color and no mesh info displayed ( just ap and coverage cloud )
    2) after few time ( less than 1 second ) the map was becoming a little bit lighter and the mesh info was merged to the map
We are missini the second step
Anyone had the same issue ?
    best regards
    Luigi
PS: I opened a case with WCS version 6.0 ( same issue ) but, after some months, no risult. The last version working fine was WCS 5.2

Just to add some more informations:
    - disabling "refreshj from network" ( building properties ) the link and mesh info are showed
    - while I'm on a floor, after some refresh, i loose the mesh link draw and, if i click on an AP, i loose also mesh info in the popup. It' s like, after some refresh, the AP are no more recognized as Mesh ( !?!? )
    regards

    With Tejas Shah
Welcome to the Cisco Support Community Ask the Expert conversation. This is an opportunity to learn and ask questions from Cisco expert Tejas Shah on One Management with Prime Infrastructure 1.2 Combining the wireless functionality of Cisco Prime Network Control System (NCS) with the wired functionality of Cisco Prime LAN Management Solution (LMS),  Cisco Prime Infrastructure simplifies and automates many of the day-to-day tasks associated with maintaining and managing the end-to-end network infrastructure from a single pane of glass. The new converged solution delivers all of the existing wireless capabilities for RF management, user access visibility, reporting, and troubleshooting along with wired lifecycle functions such as discovery, inventory, configuration and image management, automated deployment, compliance reporting, integrated best practices, and reporting.

Raun, please see my responses inline:
Can you go over the licensing method with Prime Infrastructure 1.2 please?
Raun, you can check out the following link for ordering guide at
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps12239/products_data_sheets_list.html
I currently have NCS and do NOT currently have LMS.  I know I can move to Prime Infrastructure through Cisco Product Upgrade Tool.  However, what I am confused about is do I still have to buy LMS to have LMS functionality in Prime Infrastructure 1.2?
==> Not at all.  The converged product will give you basic management capability for routers and switches that LMS provided in this release.   Feature/Functionality will keep on growing with upcoming releases.
If not, do the licenses I transfer into Prime Infrastructure 1.2 from NCS also work for devices to work under LMS?
==> Licensing is different than NCS or LMS.  You don't have to transfer the license.  Each install of Prime Infrastructure will have a unique UID string on which the licenses are based.  A new license will be applied to the product.
Mean, can my currently 350 licenses be used for AP's as in NCS and routers in the LMS portion of Prime Infrastructure 1.2?
==> I would recommend getting a total count of your wired and wireless devices and match the right SKU based on that.
Hope this helps.. Let me know if you have any further questions,
    Tejas

  • UPS monitoring support with Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.2

    Dear Members,
    Good day,
I am having a project implemented wherein i have the UPS power redudancy solution for our network devices.
Now can anyone gide that is it possible for below :-
UPS units installed with SNMP cards be monitored via Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.2 as our monitoring & management solution is Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.2 ?
    if yes
Can you guide if following action would be possible to export the below logs from UPS unit to our Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.2
       a) UPS fault status information
       b) UPS operational status(input power available Y/N)
       c) Battery fault status
       d) Battery charging current
       e) Battery charge level
       f) Output current
Conclusion is we need to confirm that would it be posible to achieve remote monitoring of these UPS units via our CPI 1.2
Thanks in Advance for your support & replies to this query.
    Regards,
    Muzammil N.

Prime Infrastructure 1.2 can manage non-Cisco devices in a limited fashion via SNMP query and trap processing. It cannot import logs and does not have a generic syslog server,
So if your devices have snmp read only support and can generate SNMP traps for the above you can add them to PI. Follow the manual add device procedure here.

  • Can i install Cisco prime infrastructure 1.3 with 1.1 license.

Can i install Cisco prime infrastructure 1.3 with 1.1 license. To be more precise it will be fresh installation
but the licenses I have is of 1.1.As per my overview from Cisco prime Infrastructure 1.2 NCS and NCS(WAN)
has been bundled into one service. But both were seperate entities in Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.1.

It doesn't matter if you want to make a new installation or an upgrade. The questions is the license.
The base license is necessary for network management nodes (devices). But to get updates for your system you need the additional to your Base License the Lifecycle License (which can be ordered for 12, 24 or 36 months).
The Lifycycle License is also based on the number of managed devices. In your case 50 devices. So you have that License - congratulations!
Otherwise order the Lifecycle License for 50 devices (L-N-PI12-50-M). This generates CON-PSUU-PI12LF50 for 12 months, list price 414,81$. Then Upgrade from 1.1 to 1.2, patch the system and upgrade to 1.3.
    Have fun,
    Chris

  • Using Windows Network Policy Server to authenticate Prime Infrastructure 1.2 admin access

    Dear all,
How can I authenticate admin access to the Prime infrastructure 1.2 using AAA mode RADIUS with Windows Network Policy Server as RADIUS server? I find some information using ACS as RADIUS server but cannot find how to for Windows NPS.
I try to configure the NPS but an error prompted when logging in to PI using an account in the NPS server, "No authorization information found for Remote Authenticated User. Please check the correctness of the associated task(s) and Virtual Domain(s) in the remote server"
    Thanks for your help.
    Dennis

Ok, I was able to resolve this over the weekend.  The actual fix is a little complicated.  You can find the full explination here: http://technologyordie.com/windows-nps-radius-authentication-of-cisco-prime-infrastructure
The basics are that Prime (1.3 is the version I am using at this point) expects two AV pairs from radius.  They are as as follows:
    NCS:role0=Admin
    NCS:virtual-domain0=ROOT-DOMAIN
"Admin" is the name of the group you would like your users to have access at and "ROOT-DOMAIN" is the name of the domain you would like them to have access to.
For TACACS+ I suspect the AV Pairs are going to be the same but I have not been able to test that.

  • Adding new switch in my network including Cisco Prime Infrastructure

    hi all,
if I connect new switch to my network, can I let Cisco PI to apply a specific template of configuration to this switch automatically?
how can I do that ?
    thanks in advance

    Hi,
    i followed these steps :
    SWITCH SIDE
    - configured Prime Infrastructure as snmp-server host;
    - enabled snmp-traps for linkup and linkdown events globally;
    - disabled snmp-traps for linkup and linkdown on non relevant interfaces using the no snmp trap link-status command
    PRIME INFRASTRUCTURE SIDE
    - under "Deploy/Monitor Deployment" i deployed template "Interface Health"  for all the interested switches
    -  under "Administration/System Settings/Mail Server Configuration" configured my internal SMTP server to make Prime Infrastructure able to send e-mails
    - under "Operate/Alarms & Events" click on "Email Notifications" , then on "Switches and Hubs"
       - check the "critical" box ,  insert the destination e-mail address into the "To" field then click "Save"
     -  check the "switches and Hubs" box and then click Save
As i know is possible to avoid to configure every single not-interesting port on the switches with "no snmp trap link-status" command (it's a bit annoying when you have tens of switches), using Port Grouping configuration on PI but i tried it without success.
    Hope this helps.
    Best Regards,

  • ISE integration with Prime Infrastructure,

    Hi Team,
I would like to know what are the advantages and Disadvantages of the ISE integration with Prime Infrastructre. Also  how the LAN, wifi, and identity management part (guest access etc) will work together.
    Cheers!!!
    Minakshi

Prime Infrastructure manages the wired and the wireless clients in the network. When Cisco ISE is used as a RADIUS server to authenticate clients, Prime Infrastructure collects additional information about these clients from Cisco ISE and provides all client relevant information to Prime Infrastructure to be visible in a single console.
When posture profiling is enforced in the network, Prime Infrastructure talks to Cisco ISE to get the posture data for the clients and displays it along with other client attributes. When Cisco ISE is used to profile the clients or an endpoint in the network, Prime Infrastructure collects the profiled data to determine what type of client it is, whether it is an iPhone, iPad, an Android device, or any other device.
Cisco ISE is assisting Prime Infrastructure to monitor and troubleshoot client information, and displays all the relevant information for a client in a single console.

  • Prime Infrastructure 2.1 - SFP port alarms to email/show total network traffic speed

    Hello,
Running Prime Infrastructure 2.1 with assurance license.
    I have two questions:
    1. Setting up alarms in PI 2.1. I've set up a port group of my main switches that have TenGig links to our main router. I have set up a monitor template that has only interface availability on it and then deployed it. In theory, this should email me, the contact (where I put my email address in), when the ports that I have set up go down, correct?
    2. I want to monitor the entire traffic of the network going in to the router from our TenGig ports. I've messed around with the dashlets and adding my port group to the WAN utilization dashlet but only see % of utilization. I'd like to be able to see raw traffic stats from those ports. I'm sure I'm missing something. Where do I need to look in PI to check raw traffic data in Mbps/Gbps from my ports.

In my first question, I do not get an email when a port goes down. I set up a test port and when I pulled it, after about 10 minutes, it had never sent me an email. I will continue to look through what I've been doing to see if I can figure it out.
