Printer says offline,cannot print

Printer ran out of ink. Bought more and installed. Printed off required documents. Next day went to my online work, tried to print my documents. Nothing happens. Went to My Computer, says printer offline. My son,who is a university student and tech guy has reinstalled,updated ,etc. it still doesn't work. What is wrong? Can anyone help?

Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums! I understand your HP Deskjet 2542 is showing as offline and you are unable to print. I see you have uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers with no success. It looks like you may need to run the Wireless setup again. Please follow the steps listed below:
1. Unplug the USB if using a direct connection.
2. Remove the HP DJ 2542 software from your computers Control Panel's Uninstall a program option.
3. Restart the computer.
4. Make sure all the DJ 2542 software is gone from the programs list as well as your HP folder listed under the All programs in your Start Menu.
5. Now go ahead and download the software and drivers for your DJ 2542, please select the USB to Wireless conversion (DO NOT plug in USB until the software prompts you to):

6. Go ahead and print a test page.
7. If you are unable to print a test page, please run the HP Print and Scan Doctor- It was designed by HP to provide users with the troubleshooting and problem solving features needed to resolve many common problems experienced with HP print and scan products connected to Windows-based computers.

Let me give you a slightly different perspective than everyone else here. You are using an unsecured wireless network, which means that all your network traffic is easily available for viewing by anyone else using that network. That's bad. Very bad, for you, unless you absolutely trust everyone who lives within range of this network. So stop doing it.
As to the Mac not connecting, wireless networking is simply too complex for any reasonable answer without more information. There are many possible error points, and as often as not it's the Mac that can connect and the Windows PC that cannot. Since you can't give us any information about the configuration of the neighbor's network, and can't make any changes to it, we can't do much to help you troubleshoot it.

Retail Leopard disc looks like this;
(The disc itself has the same logo). If the one you've got is grey it simply won't work.
Given the retail and second hand prices of Leopard (usually some on Amazon MP), you'll probably find it cheaper to go directly to Snow Leopard, although there could be software updates and printer driver problems that could nullify the difference.

ITunes says it cannot find my songs...

My itunes library is on an external HDD. I've gone to edit>preferences and made sure the itunes media library is set to this place. I had no issues last week but today i've turned itunes on, and it cannot find any of the songs even though they are in the same place.
Any song I click on it says "itunes cannot find the file would you like to locate it". Is there a way that you can get itunes to search and assign everything for you? Its confusing me...

When you first told iTunes where to look for your library (i.e. on an external drive as opposed to the default) that drive would have been assigned a drive letter by your computer. Now, is the external drive given the same letter as before? If not, that's why you have a problem.
This can happen if you have something else connected as well, a camera or USB printer for instance. If the "camera" was given the drive letter previously used by your external drive, the external drive would have to be given a different letter.
Actually, another thing, if the external drive is not connected to your computer _and ready for use_ when you start up iTunes, then iTunes will automatically revert to the C:drive.

Also, I cannot connect to my Photosmart b209a printer, though a different computer - same Macbook Pro can. I tried redownloading the software, but in the setup I get a "device not reachable" message: "However to continue configuring the device in network, your Mac must have access to the device. So please make sure that your Mac has access to the Network ..." I've checked my network on the system preferences and it's properly connected. I'm on the net as I do this. Tis very frustrating, and any assistance woud be appreciated.

Airport Utility is for administration of genuine Apple Base Stations. If you have a different Brand, Airport Utility can do nothing for you.
I think they're using ethernet.
To connect a Printer via Ethernet, no password is needed.
We already tried the password for the internet and that did not work...
If a password is required to connect to the Internet, then WiFi is likley being used, and that WiFi password is the one needed for the Printer connect wirelessly as well.
What make&model Printer? Is it indeed a Wireless Printer? Most connect via USB, but that would force it to use a specific computer to assist in printing.

Reader 8.1.2 says file cannot be found

I have Reader 8.1.2 running on 4 servers. I am having trouble opening a pdf print window on just one server. They all have the same versions etc. I looked through IE add ons and plug ins to find some difference, nothing. I am able to save the file then open it up in reader, but it will not open it inthe browser, says file cannot be found? Same IE version also 7?

I suggest that you download 8.1.3 from http://get.adobe.com/reader/otherversions/, then search for updates to 8.1.4 and 8.1.5; most likely your problem will be solved after this.

You need to read this, it will be easier to work on a Mac when you know how a Mac works.

FF downloaded some update and now I get error message saying update cannot be installed until I get rid of extra FF copies on computer-but I DON"T have any extra copies. I cannot even uninstall the only FF I now have!

I have a Toshiba laptop, Windows & Home Premium Edition operating system. I had FF 3.6.3 installed and up until 6:00 today it was sort of working properly. I find out later that my huasband cannot even open the browser, as every time he does, a dialog box opens up whcih says "UPdate cannot be installed. Please make sure no other copies of FF are running on computer, then restart FF to try again." But I do not have any other copies of FF. I really do not like it when FF auto installs stuff without my permission. Many times this stuff is downloaded and installed, only to raise havoc with my computer.

My 2nd gen works fine with WPA2 and AES encryption.
You may need to go back and start over. Reset the router back to factory defaults, log on as the admin, set up security, DHCP, and make sure the IP address pool has enough IP addresses to lease to ALL of the computers/devices that will connect to that the router.
