Printer server NETGEAR PS121 and Mac 10.5.8

Trying to configure the PS121 on our Mac system (no PCs) and am having trouble trying to determine how I can assign the print server it's own IP.
There are plenty of directions in this forum and on Netgear's forum that tell you how to add the printer once you have an IP address - the problem here is that I am unable to assign one in the first place. There is no instructions on how to access the print server through the web-interface without an IP address.
Netgear does state in it's product description that you can configure the unit on a Mac (not just compatible), so I figure I'm missing something somewhere. Help is appreciate, thanks.

The instructions say the PS121 will obtain its IP address via DHCP (the router).
You should then be able to find the IP address by accessing the router's built-in web page.
Then you can access the print server's web page and give it a fixed IP address.
When you add a printer on the Mac, use P1 (p-one) for queue name, LPD protocol (IPP might work, too).

  • Printer server NETGEAR PS121 and Imac

Anybody knows if it's possible to use the printer server "Netgear PS121" with mac?
There is no special software for mac, but it should be possible to use it manually.
I have an Imac 2.4 GHz, router Netgear DG834, the PS121, a Multifunction printer Canon MP160, and I cannot use the printer.
    Thank you.

You will be able to print, but not scan from OS X. And the printing will only work with the open source CUPS driver, Gutenprint (get latest version):
    http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php
To add the printer use IP printing > LPD and for queue name, get the "port name" as instructed in the setup guide - it will look something like PR098701_P1.

  • For printer LaserJet Professional CM1410 any chance to set printing password for windows and MAC

    Dear All
for printer  LaserJet Professional CM1410 any chance to set printing password for windows and MAC?please help?

What Windows OS are you using?  Are you networked?
If you are networked, you have to setup your file and print sharing options in order to require password assess.  If you are just trying to control specific files from being printed, you can do that, too.
If you are just trying to control the amount of printing off of a single PC with a printer, you could setup different accounts for each user and limit their access.
Some of the commercial printers can have password options, but I do not find any password options for the CM 1410, other than what I provided earlier.
If I have been helpful, a Kudo is always appreciated.

  • Wireless print server that works with Macs and Epson R1800?

    Hi,
I'm looking to buy a wireless print server, which I could use as if the printer was connected directly to my Mac. So basically, it just needs to have printing over IP port (like port 9100 on HP JetDirect) and drivers for Mac OS X (or ideally, no special drivers needed at all). Devices that do sharing of the printer only over LPD (older Unix), SMB (Windows), IPP (Cups / newer Unix) or similar protocols is not what I'm looking for here.
The reason why LPD, SMB and IPP are not an option is that I'll need utilities such as Epson Printer Utility to work over the network too.
It looks like Linksys, Belkin and some other have products that allow access to the printer over port 9100 (standard HP JetDiret's port) as if the printer was connected directly to the computer. However, for the most part I was able to find only success stories for Windows users.
Windows has standard driver that allows connection to the printer to be easily switched from USB port to network port. Does OS X comes standard with that feature, or is the special driver needed?
Most importantly, has anybody had success with printing from Mac through wireless print server (any brand) to Epson R1800? Did the Epson Print Utility (checking the ink levels, checking and cleaning the head, etc) work? Any special drivers needed?
    Thanks

direwolf has hit the nail on the head - the Epson driver won't work for IP printing. The Epson driver is a Carbon driver, where they build the comm protocols into the driver instead of enabling use of the standard protocols on OS X (that are part of the CUPS system). You'll need a CUPS driver to use the standard network protocol(s). The printfab driver is a CUPS driver.
Exception - the Apple Extreme/Express/etc print servers have firmware that make them work like Macs - Mac-to-Mac sharing works with USB-only drivers! I hesitate to recommend the Extreme/Express, because Apple can't seem to get all the kinks out.

  • Print Server - Netgear WPGS606

Has anyone been successful with setting up a print server with a MacBook Pro? I just bought my first macbook and was hoping to use my existing Netgear print server. I can't find drivers anywhere.
    Thanks.

There is no driver required for a print server. (For Windows they have a setup Wizard, not a driver).
In Print & Fax prefs, click + then choose IP > LPD. Enter the print server's IP address and use queue names of L1 and L2 for the two USB printer ports.
Now the hard part: Printer drivers don't work the same on OS X as on Windows. If your printers are USB-only, non-postscript printers, then the manufacturers provide USB-only drivers. You need a CUPS driver to use the normal network protocols (like LPD). Apple has included Gutenprint (CUPS) drivers to cover many models. Let us know the printer model(s) if you need more help.

  • Online print servies: tips, tricks, and lessons learned?

I'm curious if other Aperture users have any wisdom to share on getting good results when printing using an online service. I've gotten good results with My Photo Pipe, a lab located a few miles from where we live. They post profiles for their printer, understand color management, and run a tight process.
I'll start by creating a print version of my image and cropping it to the desired size. After that, I'll soft proof in Aperture using the profile for the printer & paper, make my adjustments, and export to a fine JPEG saved in that color space with black point compensation enabled. I find the latter necessary to maintain shadow details. I've also found that I need to bump up the saturation if the print is to look as rich as what I see on screen.
Exporting to a TIFF doesn't seem to offer any advantages and makes for crazy upload times. For one experiment, I uploaded a fine JPEG in the printer's color space and a 16-bit TIFF of the same image in Pro Photo RGB. Both were for 16x20 prints. I couldn't tell which was which without checking the filename on the back. The images were raw captures of a wildly colored butterfly and definitely pushed the gamut (pun intended).
Large prints aren't cheap, so I'll typically make a few 8x10s with slightly different settings before uploading a large print.
    Cheers,
    Andreas

  • New router (switched from Linksys to Netgear 750 - HP J4680 printer all in one - and MAC

My husband puchase a new router - (we were told our old router failed on us) - we had no problems setting up the netgear 750 from the linksys router we originally had - we have a MACBook Pro
My HP printer J4680 - ran beautifully  before the router switch - now will only work when directly connected from MAC to printer.
We have had several people troubleshoot for us -( we live in the country - no IT personnel nearby) - no one can seem to get the connection going between the two devices - I reinstalled the printer - read and reread the troubleshooting manual on both router and printer - and performed all the recommendations listed. The basic setup instructions on the HF printer say that despite the proximity of the printer and the router the signal in only fair and that it appears to have a "security" issue - I turned off the firewall settings on computer - no change in status.
we are contemplating returning the Netgear 750 for another linksys - could someone please tell me how or if we can solve this problem w/o having to return the router?
We purchased this particular router for the MAC compatability - the wireless printer is fairly new <<5yrs old and never had any problems w/it.
IT REALLY APPRECIATE ANY ADVICE I CAN GET!! THANX - maggiemae03815

    Welcome to the forums maggiemae03815
I saw your post about the connection issues you are having with your new router, Mac computer and Officejet J4680. I understand you have done some troubleshooting already however, I have a suggestion or two for you to try.
    On your Mac, try:
Mac OS X: How to reset the printing system
    Repair disk permissions
    Restart the Mac
Re-add the printer (do not use the AirPrint driver)
    Test print
Next contact the router company or your internet service provider to check the settings on your new router. There may be a setting that is blocking the connection to your printer:
Network name and password need to have no spaces or punctuation
If using WPA2 security, switch to WPA personal
Dual broadcast Wireless b/g/n (printer will only connect to g)
Mac filter needs to be turned off
Firewall settings need to be at there default settings, or set to a lower security
    Multicasting "on"
Following ports need to be un-blocked:
    Incoming (UDP) ports : 137, 138, 161, 427
    Outgoing (TCP) ports : 137, 139, 427, 9100, 9220, 9500

  • OS X 10.4/5 Server with PC and Mac Clients - Advice Appreciated

I have inherited a OS X 10.4 server and a user base of about 15 fulltime PC users, 10 fulltime Mac users, 10 printers.
This thread will likely contain a LOT of questions as time goes on.
    1. Should I set the PCs to Workgroup or Domain? As I have so many users I would prefer a domain setup but am not sure how that works with the OSX server.
    2. Is it worth it to upgrade to 10.5? As the processor is a G5 I cannot go to Snow Leopard.
    Thanks!

1: Domain definitely. Run Open Directory. Keep in mind you WILL NOT be able to support and run Group Policy extensions for the Windows Machines. I highly suggest you run Parallels or VMWare (if this is on a Mac Pro or XServe Intel machine) and run Windows Server 2008 or Small Business Server 2008 to manage the Windows Machines.
If you do not have a Mac Pro or XServe, or cannot afford to upgrade to a Mac Pro, then I would build a server class PC to run Windows Server or Small Business Server 2008. You can then lock down your Windows machines, run Exchange for collaboration (including push e-mail to iPhones, Windows Mobile and Blackberry devices), provide group policy and run WSUS to update your windows machines automatically.
Trying to patch the windows machines will be a royal pain in the butt without using Windows Software Update Services (part of Windows Server). You will also want an enterprise grade security solution that runs off of Windows Server, such as Trend Micro's Worry Free Business Security 6.1, to content filter, provide anti-virus and anti-malware security and spam filtering. You can use a web based console to check on virus scans, provide security lockdowns etc. There is NO enterprise grade security system that runs the web console off of Mac OS X Server at this time. There are plenty of clients (Trend Micro, Internet Security Barrier, Sophus etc), but no way to control the anti-virus clients on the Windows machines from the Mac server.
You can use your current mail, or if you go with Small Business Server you can run Exchange which is way more capable that the very limited mail capability in OSX Server 10.411. I ran 10.4 server until two months ago at my work, where we upgraded to 10.6.
Group Policy, which is similar to Workgroup Manager Server Preferences, will allow you to lock down and secure your windows machines. You can lock the screen, send software updates, provide firewall preferences etc. This requires Windows Server.
10.5 is totally worth the upgrade. It adds RADIUS support (you can secure and lock down your VPN connections with XAUTH and your wifi access points to require a username and password, rather than just a password), it provides MUCH improved Software Update Services (10.4 Software Update Server is severely limited; it also cannot upgrade 10.5 or 10.6 clients. 10.5 SUS can update 10.4, 10.5 and 10.6 clients).
If you upgrade to OSX Server 10.5 you want to do a full bootable backup of the boot drive to an external Firewire drive. You can use CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper! to accomplish this. You can then attempt an upgrade, and if it screws up you can then restore the machine and plan to do a clean install and migrate your settings from the 10.4 install.

  • WGPS606 Print Server

I have just purchased a wireless print server (Netgear WGPS606) and have configured it correctly with my HP Photosmart 8050 on a PC. I am trying to connect my Mac to the print server but for some reason, I am having no success. I have read some of the other questions and they all seem to need the same thing. Could it be a driver I need? Been to printfab.com and there is nothing there for my printer.
    Any ideas?

The Photosmart P1100 Gimp-Print driver included in OS X is a generic Photosmart driver that should work for network printing. (HP's driver won't work for network printing)
    According to this:
    http://www.cups.org/articles.php?L317
In printer Setup, click Add, then IP printer > LPD. Enter the IP address and enter L1 for first printer or L2 for 2nd printer.

  • Mac Printing with a printer server and Windows XP desktop

    I have the following configuration:
    Dell Desktop running XP
    Apple iBook G4 running 10.4
    Linksys Router
    Linksys Print Server
I can't get my iBook to print through the print server. I have tried IP Printing and provided the printer server IP Address and correct printer driver "HP LaserJet 1012 Foomatic/hpijs (which I think is now part of 10.4). When I try to print I get the following message, "Printer Busy; will retry in 10 sec. I have also had Connecting to 192.168.1.78 on port 630... and nothing happens.
Any suggestions? I am at wits end because nothing is working. I know that my wireless router and print server are working because I ping'd them from the PC.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

On windows, the setup software fills in required info like print server queue name - but we don't have that software on the Mac.
Look in the print server manual and check the supported protocols - LPD and IPP require a queue name which you can find in the manual. HP Jetdirect protocol doesn't need a queue name, and is called TCP/IP raw or socket 9100 printing in some manuals.
    Good luck.

  • Printing to a Linksys Wireless Print Server with my MAC

have a small home network using an ATT DSL modem-router. I have several PCs hardwired to the router and 1 older MAC wireless. I have a MAC G4 laptop and a Dell laptop (my wife's) also connected wirelessly and all work well. I have added a Linksys wireless print server today and am able to get my wife's laptop to print easily and reliable as does the hardwired Dell. What I need is to get my MAC laptop to print wirelessly as well. I have tried all the options in the printer set-up but it does not see the print server. Linksys does not support MAC and there are no MAC drivers for the print server to download that I know of. Does anyone know of a fix on how I could configure this equipment so I can print wirelessly from my MAC laptop. Or perhaps bypass the print server and print using the modem-router and the same printer. I would appreciate any suggestions one could lend. Thanks much.

Looking at figure 8-5 and the text to its left in the User Guide.
Click Add in Printer Setup, then select IP printer > IPP. Enter the print server's IP address AND queue name P1. With that info filled in OS X has all it needs to address the printer on the print server.
Download and install the CUPS driver version 1.1.0, and choose it when you Add in Printer Setup.

  • Mac Pro using Mac Mini as Print Server

    Hi all,
Mac Pro is wired to my network, Mac Mini is Airport connected.
I'd like to use Mac Mini as a Print Server without keyboard and mouse. I've installed OSXvnc-server on Mac Mini and Chicken of the VNC (CVNC) Client on Mac Pro.
Mac Pro's keyboard is azerty as was Mac Mini, it's impossible to loggin with Chicken of the VNC, password is not accepted, I connect an azerty keyboard to Mac Mini and I can loggin.
Typing on Mac Pro in Mac Mini TextEdit through CVNC give weird keyboard layout, not only azerty qwerty different layout.
In between my two Mac Mini there wasn't any problem using CVNC and the same server but Azerty Qwerty layout.
Is there any other solution to use Mac Mini as a print server ? What about using Desktop remote connection ?
    Thanks,
    Peloche,
    MacPro 2.66, 6GB, 1TB; Mini G4, 1.45, 1GB; iPod 60 GB; 30" & 20" ACD; Apple IIC   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    Ah… right! That explains it.
So what model printers are they?
    Ned,
Printers are HP Color LaserJet 2550L, HP Photosmart 8250 and Epson EPL-5900L.
I've changed the VNC Client from "Chicken of the VNC" to "VNCThing".
Now I can log in from Mac Pro using its Azerty Keyboard as Qwerty Keyboard.
Once logged in I've set Mac Mini Keyboard to "Extended (or Expanded ?) American" keyboard within System Preferences, with this option Mac Mini see the Mac Pro Keyboard as an Azerty layout...
I've connected two printers through USB2 Hub connected to Mac Mini and the third one direct onto Mac Mini USB port.
Back to Mac Pro "System Preferences Fax & Printers", "+", immediatly the 3 printers have been proposed, I've selected them and tested all: it works perfectly.
Mac Mini is set to "restart after power cut" and is connected for power onto a remoted control power distribution sockets, that means Mac Mini is starting and stopped when printers are powered on and off.
The sole small issue is that I can't find how to display Mac Mini GUI on Mac Pro at a better resolution than 1024 x 768.
    Thanks for your time,
