Probl with primary address, DNS, LDAP

Hi,
my Mac OS Server runs as a gataway, LDAP Sever, and as a DNS Server. I have some interesting effects.
1. DNS Configuration in Server Admin some times is visible, some times not. All Changes I make are lost, next Time i see the configuration.
I think this happends since Upgrading from 10.4 to 10.5.1
2. The user blabla, also migrated from 10.4 to 10.5.1, runs well, is visible in the List of the Directory Admin, but the Data in the Basic View is not shown. For all other users, every thing is well.
3. changeip -checkhostname shows me the address of the interface connected to the Internet. My DNS zone is for the other interface. Both interfaces are in different are in different networks. If i change the primary address by changing the service order of the interfaces in the network preferences. changeip -checkhostname says all fine an DNS name is ok, but i am not more connected to the Internet.

Just got off the phone with support for this very same problem. DNS Proxy is definitely dying in the TC, looks like a firmware issue to me.
This is the 3rd TC I'm on. First was a 500GB, had this problem, replaced it under warranty at Apple's direction, replacement did the same, just upgraded this weekend to 1GB, and same issue still. All on 7.3.2 firmware.
TC 1TB, PPPoE to my ISP, ISP's DNS Servers listed in the PPPoE config in the TC.
When a host gets DHCP from the TC the only DNS returned is the TC itself, since it proxies the ISP DNS servers.
Once every day or two, the DNS proxy dies. local network works, and I can add my ISP's DNS addresses in my host config and I have DNS again, but this is definitely something dying in the DNS proxy in the TC.
Just for kicks trying to switch from my ISP's DNS servers to OpenDNS now since someone said that worked for them, but I am not hopeful... I don't see this as a host DNS issues at all.
The dead proxy is very clear:
$ nslookup apple.com. 192.168.1.1 # that's the TC
Server: 192.168.1.1
Address: 192.168.1.1#53
** server can't find apple.com: SERVFAIL
$ nslookup apple.com. 208.67.222.222 # that's OpenDNS
Server: 208.67.222.222
Address: 208.67.222.222#53
Non-authoritative answer:
Name: apple.com
Address: 17.149.160.49
I replaced a linksys router with the TC and am kind of unhappy that a $500 router dies every couple of days. My cheapo Linksys router never needed to be restarted, it only ever got rebooted once every year or so when the house lost power long enough for the UPS to run out of battery.
Help us out here Apple, I replaced a $50 router with a $500 because I like the flavor of your kool aid, and this thing dies every day or two. Even if you can't fix why the proxy is dying every couple of days, can you please at least update the firmware to maybe restart the proxy if it quits working?

    Hi
I have recently deployed my first Exchange Server. This is an Exchange Server 2013 Standard and I set up everything using this document on Technet for installation: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb124778(v=exchg.150).aspx
For post-installation I used this document on Technet: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb124397(v=exchg.150).aspx
I have setup access to port 25, 587, 143, 993, 110, 995, 80, 443 in my routers SPI-firewall and created DNAT rules for each of these ports as well. I can send mail without any issues, but I cannot receive. Reverse DNS is working both internally and externally.
I can telnet to port 25 on my external IP and external domain which is exchange.mydomain.tld
    My Exchange-server is running inside a Gen1 Hyper-V virtual machine on a Windows Server 2012 R2.
My Exchange Server has the following resources:

When sending mail from any internal or external e-mail address to an internal e-mail address I get the following error in Exchange Queue Viewer:

    Hello,
Im running Exchange 2013 on Server 2012R2, and all has been fine for a while until some users complained that ome of there external recipients are not receiving their mails. if I look in the mail que I indeed see the messages stuck with the comment:
[{LRT=14-4-2015 14:36:14};{LED=441 4.4.1 Error encountered while communicating with primary target IP addre

    hosts.
Initially i thought it might had to do with the PTR but I checked and the reverse lookup is fine, also the mail server ip's are not blacklisted. I've tried every suggestion on all forums I could find from changing MTU sizes to disabling TLS but nothing seems
to work the majority of the mail goes out just fine but to a couple of domains it doesn't any input would be greatly appreciated.
I have only the internal DNS server configured on the NIC, only one NIC is available and OWA, Outlook and Activesync clients work just fine.

If this is happening when you try to send to several domains, then I suggest you might be blacklisted or otherwise being considered a spam source.
Do you have an SPF record?  Is your IP address in a blacklisted range?

  • Register Secondary ACS with Primary ACS 5.4 patch 6 and getting error

    Scenario #1:
prodacs1 and prodacs2 version 5.4 patch 6 with IP address of 10.1.1.1/24 and 10.1.1.2/24, respectively.
Both prodacs1 and prodacs2 are running on VMWare ESXi 5.1.  Both are sync'ed with Active Directory
and authenticate users to manage Cisco routers and switches without any issues.  prodacs1 is the Primary
and prodacs2 is the Secondary.  BOTH prodacs1 and prodacs2 USE THE SAME LICENSE.  Both prodacs1 and
prodacs2 are resolved in DNS for both forward and reverse lookup.  In this production environment, everything is working as expected.
Scenario #2:  NEW deployment in the lab
labdacs1 and labacs2 version 5.4 patch 6 with IP address of 192.168.1.1/24 and 192.168.1.2/24, respectively.
Both labacs1 and labacs2 are running on VMWare ESXi 5.1.  Both are sync'ed with Active Directory.  BOTH
labacs1 and labacs2 USE THE SAME LICENSE as scenario #1.  Both labacs1 and labacs2 are resolved in DNS for both
    forward and reverse lookup.
However, when I tried to add labacs2 into labacs1 so that labacs2 is the secondary and labacs1 to be the
primary.  From labacs2 interface: System Administration >Operations >Local Operations >Deployment Operations,
I enter the hostname/IP address, username/password of labacs1, then I click on "Register with Primary", I get
    this message:
This System Failure occurred:  server cannot be added to the deployment.
Server has same License ID as server labacs1 that already exists in the deployment.
Your changes have not been saved.Click OK to return to the list page.
Why is not working?  Furthermore, why is it working in one environment but not the other with the same
idetical ACS version & patch.  Work in production environment but not other.
Anyone has run into this before?  how do you fix this?

What type of license are you using in first deployment?
There are 2 type of licenses
Base license - Install a unique base license for each of the ACS secondary servers in the deployment.
Large Deployment add-on license - It allows a deployment to support more than 500 network devices. Only one Large Deployment license is required per deployment, as it is shared by all instances
Please check what type of license are you running in your deployment.
In order to fix issue in your 2nd deployment you need reset-application config on your secondary, install the new unique base license (based on show udi) and register it to primary node to get the configuration replicated.

  • Help with Preference pane DNS settings for Mail

I have a mail (not Apple Mail) issue with my Entourage Mail. I keep getting
the following error message and I have verified the server settings in my
mail accounts are correct for ATT that uses pop.att.yahoo.com. I manage to
get mail most of the time but I still get the following error message:
    Error Description
    Error:
Entourage cannot find the server. Verify the server information is entered correctly in the Account Settings, and that your DNS settings in the Network pane of System Preferences are correct.
    Explanation:
    Could not retrieve mail
    Error: -1370
My System Preferences/Network/Advanced/DNS point to my 2wire Gateway combo
modem/router. The router is set for Automatic DNS. I tried changing it to manual
and it did not works any better.
If I change the DNS setting in the preference pane in OS X, will it really use that
DMS address and bypass the router?
I played around with the namebench utility
    http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/32784/namebench and each time you
run it, namebench makes a better recommendation - saying something is faster
    than the previous recommendation.
I am lost on what I need to do correct the Network pane of my System Preferences.
Should it point to the router or to good DNS?
I do not think this is a Microsoft Entourage issue.
Have others seen this issue or is unique to my setup.

Going to sleep on and see how it works in the morning.
The problem is solved and I have checked the Yes button that my
question has been answered. The following is a copy of a posting
two days ago to the Microsoft Entourage group that should work
just as well for Mail users.
If you are tied of getting the following Entourage error
message -3170 over and over again, read on.
    Error:
Entourage cannot find the server. Verify the server information
entered correctly in the Account Settings, and that your DNS
settings in the Network pane of System Preferences are correct.
    Explanation:
    Could not retrieve mail
    Error –3170
Thanks to a tip from Diane Ross I have gone two days without
    getting the error message.
First, I know the Account Settings for my ATT DSL service
have been correct for some time and have not changed.
The short version of the fix that worked for was to open
the OS X 10.6.3 (Snow Leopard) System Preferences/
Network/Advanced/DNS panel and add some better Domain
    Name Servers from my location.
The default (or before) OS X setting was:
    DNS Servers: Search Domains:
    192.168.1.254 gateway.2wire.com
Note both were dimmed. The server listed tells OS X to use
the ATT provided combo 2wire modem/router for my DSL service.
The change that seem to have worked for me was to leave the
Search Domain the same; however, I added some good servers that
bypass the 2wire gateway with its automatic DNS setting.
    DNS Servers: Search Domains:
    208.67.220.220 gateway.2wire.com
    208.67.220.222
    65.68.49.51
    192.168.1.254
I found the ‘good’ or better DNS Servers by making several runs
using the free Google utility called namebench 1.2
    <http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/32784/namebench>
This utility takes some time and will make suggestions from your
location. If you add the namebench recommendation and run it
again it will find a better recommendation. I had to make several
runs to find the better DNS Servers for my location. The first or
primary is called OpenDNS, the second is a backup for the OpenDNS
and the third is SBC Global TX now owned by ATT and I live in
Texas. Note I ended with the default IP address.
FYI, I tied using the selected servers in the 2wire gateway in the
manual mode rather than the default automatic mode and it just
did not work right. Some pages would not open and others were
slow. For this reason I run the router in the automatic mode for
DNS and control things using the OS X Network preference pane.
The addition of preferred DNS Servers in my Preference seems
to have slowed down and hopefully stopped Entourage 2008
    version 12.2.4 -3170 error messages.

  • Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 domain join displays error "Changing the Primary Domain DNS name of this computer to "" failed...."

    Hi,
Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 domain join displays error "Changing the Primary Domain DNS name of this computer to "" failed...."
    DC:windows Server 2008 R2
    Domain functional level:Windows Server 2003
When Winxp join domain, have no this error message.
    I checked http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2018583?wa=wsignin1.0 does't work.
There have 3 suggestion in this article:
1.The "Disable NetBIOS over TCP/IP" checkbox has been disabled in the IPv4 properties of the computer being joined.
    Doesnt's work.
2.Connectivity over UDP port 137 is blocked between client and the helper DC servicing the join operation in the target domain.
On my DC, I run netstat -an, reslut as below:
     UDP    192.168.20.3:137       *:*
3.The TCP/IPv4 protocol has been disabled so that the client being joined or the DC in the destination domain targeted by the LDAP BIND is running TCP/IPv6 only.
    We are not using IPV6.
This server recently updated from Windows Server 2003 to Windows Server 2008 R2. Before upgrade, when Win7 and Win2008 join this domain, also have the same error message.
Please help to check this issue.
    Thank you very much.
    BR
    Guo YingHui

    Hi Guo Ying,
I have faced this critical error which makes over-writes the host names in the domain when you join.
For example: Already you had a host name called as PC.domain.com in the domain.com Domain.
When you try to add the another host name called as PC in the domain.com Domain, it doesn't give you the duplicate name error on the network it does over-write the existing host name called as PC.domain.com & it will add the new host name into the domain.
Host name which got over-written will get removed from the domain. I faced this issue in my project. My DPM host name got removed from the Domain & new host name got joined into the domain which halted my backups for one day.
    Final Resolution is as follows:
You need to start the dns console on the DC & drop down the domain name.
Select the _msdcs when you click on _msdcs it will show the Name Server's list on the right hand side.
You need to add the Domain Naming Master under the _msdcs or add all the domain controllers which you had.
After you add the Name server's try joining the PC OR Laptop to the domain which is successfully joins it.

I want to change my apple id but get the message "This email address is not available for use as an Apple ID. You may already have an Apple ID associated with this address. Please try again or sign in using your existing Apple ID.".  I try to log a call with apple support and I get a message like "cannot schedule a call".  That leaves me out of options.  Any ideas?

    Hi billfromwandering,
I'm sorry to hear you are having these issues changing your Apple ID. It is correct that if an email address has been used previously for an Apple ID, it can not be used for a different Apple ID, as noted in this article:
In most cases, your Apple ID is also the primary email address of your Apple ID account. You can change your Apple ID to any other email address you control, as long as it's not already in use as an Apple ID. If your email address ends with @icloud.com, @me.com, or @mac.com, it's already an Apple ID.

If you are certain that the email in question has never been used for an Apple ID and you are having issues contacting Apple Support regarding this issue, you may want to make sure you are going through the Apple ID support channel on the following page:

  • How to use both wired and wireless connection with static addresses

Now that I have setup my home network with static addresses (router, mini1, mini2 and PC) in the way I want, (big thanks to BDAqua http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1271635&tstart=0) I would like to understand some more advanced network concepts.
I would like to change the network so that I use both the wireless connection and the built-in ethernet connection at the same time in my Mac mini1. I would like to connect my PC to my Mac mini by using the wired ethernet connection so that I reach the Internet from my PC as well. I would also like to be in control of all the addresses therefore I want to assign the addresses manually.
The question: What addresses should I use between mini1 and PC? Should I use the same wireless address space as I already use between the wireless router and the other computers (router: 192.168.1.1, mini1: 192.168.1.101, mini2: 192.168.1.103) or should I use something totally different like 10.X.X.X? What should I put in ethernet connection "Router"-field, the same as in Airport (192.168.1.1)? What about DNS, same as in Airport?

If I understand this correctly, you wish your Mini to perform Internet Sharing for your PC, correct!?
If so you'll pretty much have to let the Mini handle DHCP & NAT on the Ethernet port. You also want to be sure Airport is dragged to the top of Network>Show:>Network Port Configurations, that's what position the Mini will use 1st for Internet itself.
On the Mini turn on both Web Sharing & Internet Sharing. The PC once connected will have the Mini's Ethernet IP as it's Gateway addy.

  • DHCP with manual address doesn't work

My ISP has decided that they won't support static addresses for the
DHCP servers anymore. I'd really like to keep static IP addresses, so
I tried using the "DHCP with manual address." Unfortunately, it
doesn't recognize my Router which is serving DHCP. What's busted here?
Is it Tiger or is it my router (old mansesnse MIH-130).
    Any help is appreciated.
    thanks.

Comcast I believe is a cable connection.
Interesting, I found that if I continue to manually configure the
TCP/IP settings and just point the DNS to the router (192.168.1.1),
all works perfectly. This worked for 10.4.5, 9.2 and Yellowdog Linux as well.
When you say your isp is no longer using static ip addresses this only affecs your WAN ip. Setup your router to receieve internet via DHCP.
Your LAN ip addresss won't change. You can give all your macs static ip addresses if you like. It does not affect your WAN IP.

  • How to get GPIB Primary Address

I'm using a device with a NAT9914 chipset and I would like to read the address from a register on the chipset. Is it possible? The only address register in write-only...
    Thanks,
    Michael

The best way to find the primary address (PAD) of the chip is to store it in a variable that can be accessed later. The ADR register is write-only and there are no status registers that have this information.

    Hi Ankur,
You can use any driver as long as is unique on the bus. Just select a primary address, there is n o need for a secondary address (disable it).
But more importantly, the linux driver does not work with the NI7210 chips. This driver is intended for interfaces using the TNT4882C GPIB controller.

  • Setting up Primary/Secondary DNS in Weblogic

    Hi,
Can we setup primary & secondary DNS IP in Weblogic server? .. Please provide some reference.
    Regards,
    NC

You will also need to add the name of the secondary server in your domain name server list (where you registered your domain)
Note necessarily. If this is only serving your LAN then you need to tell your LAN clients about this server, but entering this server's address in their DNS servers field (which may be populated via DHCP if you're using that).
You only need to register the domain if you're serving public DNS to external clients but I'm guessing that's already handled elsewhere.

  • Customizing Outlook with SMTP Address

    Hello
When a client opens Outlook, their email address appears at the top of the , in the form of: Inbox -
    User@address.
Recently, we gave users a second SMTP address which we would like to be shown at this page rather than the old one (which is currenty showing)
Is there anyway this can be done? My instinct tells me GPO maybe...but am not sure if this parameter is modifiable.
    Please Help!
    Thanks

    Hi Pinky,
    Thank you for your question.
    I agree with Nothing123.
Email address which appears at the top of outlook is a primary address. If you want to display the second email address, we just set second email address as primary address.
If there are any questions regarding this issue, please be free to let me know.
