Problem failOver of RAC
Dear All,
we have set a 2 node Cluster using Oracle 11gR2 on RFEL 5.3 x86_64.
But while testing instance failoOver from a client with the fillowing TNS entry instance fail over is not taking place.
when connected using the following TNS we identified that the current instance is using db1. then we restar db1 machine keeping some long selection operation from the client. while db1 is getting down the client session stucks and remains stuck untill the db1 machine bounced back with instance db1.

Load balancing and transparent failover in RAC 11g
Hi,
The only way to configure load balancing and transparent failover in RAC 11 g R2 is using the clauses LOAD_BALANCING and FAILOVER on the tnsnames.ora of application server. Is that correct? If the database is admin-managed, I shall suggest that rather than playing with the remote_listener parameter , set one service as preferred for one instance. For the other service, let it be preferred on both the nodes. The service with just one instance as Preferred won't be able to use loab-balancing as there is just one instance available for its disposal.

Dear Friends.
Could you please provide me the information about implementation of Database links failover in RAC. (Oracle 10g RAC on linux)
I have created db links across the two RAC environments. Each RAC setup contains 2 nodes.
I have created DB link across the two RAC environemtns.
i.e I have created DB link between 1st node of Source RAC system to 1st node of Target RAC system.
If 1st node of Target RAC system is down, I need to setup in such way that the link should failover to node 2 of Target system.
I have tried all possible options of TAF. But I did not succeed. Is there anybody is implemented this type setup...?
How to setup tnsnames.ora on source DB to get this type of failover.
Thanks in Advance.
Best Regards
Kanumuri RajuOracle was kind enough to provide some configuration details in their docco. You may want to review this link:
http://download-east.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/network.102/b14212/advcfg.htm#sthref1275
The configuration needs to be performed in the TNSNAMES.ORA associated with the database initiating the link. If you want bi-directional TAF, you would need to update the TNSNAMES.ORA for 'both' databases.
I suggest you don't get your hopes up too high about the capability of TAF across DBLinks. I'm pretty sure you will not be able to get SELECT-based TAF. And I'm not absolutely sure which session rules will be used to determine the failover time. -
INSTALL PROBLEM 2 NODES RAC ON SOLARIS ZONES SINGLE HOST
Hi,
Does anybody tried to install rac using two zones located on the same physical machines as rac nodes?
I got problem after installation when it adds deamons to inittab and tries to start crs stack.
Even the css didn't come up.
It seems that voting disk where formatted correctly

RadekI don't have an answer for you, but I do have a warning. Do not stop any RAC processes. All RAC processes are essential to the successful operation of RAC. If you stop one of these processes then it is likely that either the instance on that node will fail and crash, or communication with the other node will be lost for a period of time. If this were to happen that the other node which was still running and unchanged would assume the other node had failed and perform a failover operation, recovering inflight transactions in the redo logs of the other instance.
All of this takes time, will impact performance, and will possibly kill off half of your sessions that were on the node you made the changes to. Recovery from one node to another takes time, and will mean that the remaining node will force the other node to shutdown, one way or another. It will use some of the underlying Clusterware capabilities to achieve this.
So, please do not just stop a RAC process, just because you want to backup some files in a file system. Do not touch the RAC processes at all. They are only meant to be controlled through RAC specific commands and tools such as Enterprise Manager.

Failover from RAC to Single Instance db
Hi
i know that i can have a single instance db , as the failover option in my dataguard system
do i need to change some parameters while i am failing over from Rac DB to Single Instance DB
something like cluster_db = false
ThanksRonHeeb wrote:
thanks for the response. i have been regularly taking current sizes of each SGA from gv$sgastat to see what's being allocated. my thinking is that this is a minimum and that i should add to it for peak loads, ensuring that it's not set below any minimum that RACOne requires.
beyond that going to RACOne seems to be a direction for virtualized DB servers and for us 24 by 7 is not needed (although more than a few minutes outage would be an issue). in any case if needed we could go RAC on our most critical environments. I'm attracted to how patching/server maintenance can be achieved with RACOne.Okay, you either need high availability or you don't. if having a db go down "for more than a few minutes" is a problem then, don't you really need 24x7 ? And in that case, isn't the high availability offered by RAC is your only option? For me, having a mission critical database (and it looks like this qualifies) on anything "vitualized" is a disaster waiting to happen. I find it lunacy to have, say, 4 virtual failover servers (RACOne) on the same physical hardware. When that server crashes so does your entire failover scenario.

Service not failover on RAC 11.2.0.3 environment
Hi
now i am testing how the 11.2.0.3 RAC will behave with Redhat 5.7.
then, i found the rac service will not failover to other node which added with "-r" available option
i have made service with this command
"srvctl add service -d xxxdb -s srv_p01 -r xxxdb1 -a xxxdb2 -y automatic -f"
xxxdb means database name, xxxdb1 and xxxdb2 are the instance on each nodes.
in my thought it will be that when prefferd xxxdb1 stopped accidentaly, the service "srv_p01" failover to availabled xxxdb2 instance
but when i stop the xxxdb1 instance with "srvctl stop instance" command, this service won't failover...
**following is the Nomal status
ora.xxxdb.db
1 ONLINE ONLINE node01 Open
2 ONLINE ONLINE node02 Open
ora.xxxdb.srv_p01.svc
1 ONLINE ONLINE node01
**here is the status when i stop the instance on node01
ora.xxxdb.db
1 OFFLINE OFFLINE Instance Shutdown
2 ONLINE ONLINE 02 Open
ora.xxxdb.srv_p01.svc
1 ONLINE OFFLINE
now the point of my question;
1. when instance down, the service which running on downed instance will failover to other node which registered as "availbale"?
the incident i met is normal activity?
2. if this activity is normal, why i add service with "available" option?
3. i want to know when the service failover to available node?
**here is the status i think it should be when instance down..
ora.xxxdb.db
1 OFFLINE OFFLINE Instance Shutdown
2 ONLINE ONLINE 02 Open
ora.xxxdb.srv_p01.svc
1 ONLINE ONLINE node02
Anyone pls answer my question! pls..
Thanks,
Edited by: 937532 on 2012/05/30 22:29but when i stop the xxxdb1 instance with "srvctl stop instance" command, this service won't failover...yes it won't like 10g,crash the node or instance or do shutdown abort on instance in 11g and see service will failover.
1. when instance down, the service which running on downed instance will failover to other node which registered as "availbale"? the incident i met is normal >activity?when instance aborted the service will failover to available instance which you're define on -a, and this service will be available to accept new connection.
2. if this activity is normal, why i add service with "available" option?explain above.
3. i want to know when the service failover to available node?when instance, node crash. -
Load Balance Problem in Oracle RAC 10.2.0.4 (two nodes with CRS)
Hi all,
I have an Oracle RAC 10.2.0.4 with two nodes and I'm having problems with sessions load balance.
The problem is that all connections are going to the node which is enabled as 'master' in RAC, the node who has located .db resource in CRS.
If .db resource is located in node1 all connections are made in node1. In the same way, all connections are made in node2 when .db resource from CRS stack is located in node2.
The connections are made by a pool in Tomcat 6 using RAC service for made the connections.
Any idea?
Thanks in advance.
Here is an example of my net configuration:
listener.ora in node1:
LISTENER_RAC_NODE1 =
(DESCRIPTION_LIST =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = node1_vip)(PORT = 1525)(IP = FIRST))

tnsnames in node1:
LISTENERS_RAC =
(ADDRESS_LIST =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = node1_vip)(PORT = 1525))
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = node2_vip)(PORT = 1525))

(LOAD_BALANCE = yes)
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SERVER = DEDICATED)
(SERVICE_NAME = rac)
********************************************************It is my fault.
It was the connection service. I had one one with preferred option and one without it. Now is working well. -

In general you can solve these issues by configuring NTP service running on your cluster nodes to be synchronized with other NTP servers. For example on Linux please read "Oracle RAC and NTP" in http://www.oracle-base.com/articles/linux/linux-ntp-configuration.php#oracle-rac-and-ntp.

Problem to connect RAC database JDBC
Hi all,
I am facing a problem when i connected to RAC (Oracle 10g) database by JDBC in applet.Error: The Network adapter could not establish the connection.
I use the following connection String:
DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:oracle:thin:@(DESCRIPTION =(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 192.168.0.212)(PORT = 1521))(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 192.168.0.213)(PORT = 1521))(LOAD_BALANCE = yes)(CONNECT_DATA = (SERVER = DEDICATED)(SERVICE_NAME = TIGER)(FAILOVER_MODE =(TYPE = SELECT)(METHOD = BASIC)(RETRIES = 180)(DELAY = 5))))","dev","dev");
I have ping those IP. its ok also i have checked in Frame. its connect smoothly.. But, why this problem happened in Applet...
Please help me..
Thank yoyAn applet, per default security policies, can only connect back to the IP address from which it originated (and, if you are running over a proxy, there is a good chance that this won't work either). So, unless the DB exists on the same machine as the web service, this is a no go.
If you wish to connect to a different address with an applet, a signed jar/applet may do the trick, otherwise, the user on the client machine must alter their security policy. Bad idea for them to do this, and very bad idea for your application (applet) to rely on this being, or having been, done. -
Problem with Oracle RAC with DRCP and persistent connections
Hello,
I am having a problem that has me stumped. I cannot get SCAN, and DRCP to work together nicely.
Right now, I can connect through my scan hostname fine without connection pooling, once I enable it I start having connection time outs. I found if I specified outbound_connection_timeout in sqlnet.ora that it times the connection out to the time I set in there. If I don't set this option I get a "ORA-12170: TNS:Connect timeout occurred".
The odd thing is I can leave connection pooling on and connect to one of my rac instances individually and it doesn't experience this problem. The only time it pops up is if I combine multiple rac instances (Through the use of SCAN or tnsnames.ora) and I enable connection pooling.
I don't know which direction to go to even diagnose this, so any and all help is appreciated.
Thank you.
Edited by: Rarp on Oct 1, 2011 10:47 PMHi,
You need to detail the problem. Enable TRACE SQL*NET on the server and client using note below.
How to Enable Oracle SQLNet Client , Server , Listener , Kerberos and External procedure Tracing from Net Manager [ID 395525.1]
Also you can try check this note:
11g: ORA-12170 With Combination RAC, DRCP and a Firewall [ID 953277.1]
Hope this helps,
