Problem in setting up Names Server

I have done all the things for setting up Names Server using wizard of Net Assistant. I am using Oracle9i. My service of Names Server is not starting. It gives error which something about blocking.
I am not using region database and its first Name Server in my network.
The error messages are TNS-00506, TNS-12536
Please help.

You have to start the services in the Server and Clients of the following way :
Server
namesctl
namesctl> START
Client
namesctl
namesctl> START_CLIENT_CACHE

  • Do we need to set up Name Server?

    Hi all,
I am creating a Software Component in the SLD. During one of the steps, it request us to setup the Name Server. May I know what is the use for this name server? Can we do without the Name Server? And if we cannot, how do we configure the Name Server? And how do we know what type of name server to create?
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards

    Hi,
You can leave it. It is used declaring it as the name server for the development infrastructure. In this case, the role of the server must be name server. The name server checks the <b>uniqueness of names and enables you to define name prefixes</b>. The name server is a role of a SLD. The other role is the landscape server role. The setup of the name server takes place in the same way as the setup of the SLD server.
So when you create your project in NWDS using NWDI track then the name will come as the prefix of the project. If you want to use name server you need to registerit. For more information see the note SAP Note 710315. Here is a link I think it will clear you enough.

  • Problems with setting up flex server

    Hi
I am trying to create a data centric app with php but Flash Builder wont accept the web root folder and says it does not exist.
    My setup is:
    Web Root: /htdocs
    Root URL: http://www.mysite.com
    Any ideas?
Also where can I find the patches/updates for Flash builder.. a site search gave zero results.
    thanks
    Micheal

For flash builder to work correctly with your server, it will need file system access to the webroot. If this webroot is on a remote server, then the remote folder needs to be mounted on the local file system (Connect to server functionality in Finder) and then the local mount point needs to be specified as the web root. The URL will however be that of the remote server.
Please log an enhancement request for us to track this issue to see how we can improve the developer workflow in FB for use cases where the user has only FTP access to the web root.

  • How to set Workstation Name on Solaris 10?

    Hi.
I have problems with setting workstation name.
I tryed to do it with Management Console, but system crashed, because there was missmatch between the name in few files. So I installed Solaris 10 again.
    How to change workstation name?
    Thank you.

    Thank you.
There are two /etc/hostname files, they are empty: hostname and hostname6.
/etc/hosts has what I need to change.
I was unable to find /etc/nodename.
Will it work, if I'll change only /etc/hosts and make "hostname <new hostname>"?
In previous time when my system crashed, I changed: /etc/hosts, but it didn't work.

  • Problem with set-up of a macmini server with airport

    Dear readers
Last week I took the bolt step to buy a macmini with OS 10.6 server to set-up a server at home for al kinds of reasons including the claim that it should be easy. Well I am still struggling but making progress in discovering how things work. To be honest this is part of the fun and one of the other reasons to buy the systems. There is one problem I hope somebody can help me with. In the getting started guide a set-up with an airport between the server and the router of the internet provider is promoted. The router is the DNS server, the airport the DHCP server for the local network. This is what I like to do as the macmini has only one Ethernet port and other configurations are not possible without making changes in the hardware configuration. The network service documentation seems to me not supporting this set-up. It considers the server to be used as DHCP server and DNS server where the airport is only used as wifi hub. Also I had problems with the initial set-up that gives the option to include the airport in the configuration and should set-up everything automatically. Halfway during the automatic set-up process at the end of the configuration the airport was reset causing the set-up process to fall over. I used the remote set-up process as only this process asks for the airport connection.
I have not figured out how to set-up the DNS to get access to the server from outside . My provider is revering to a site dyndns.com but I have not checked this.
Does anybody have experience with the configuration I am working on. Did I miss something in the set-up or the documentation, especially related to the DNS setup including using dyndns.com and the DHCP set-up.
    Thanks for your advice.

    The first problem is DNS.
Your router is not a DNS server. When you ask your router to resolve names it is going out to the DNS servers specified by you (or your ISP). So, unless it can find your domain out there on the internet, a client will not be able to resolve your server's name. You have to have a DNS server you can talk to that has a record of your server.
    So you need to:
    1. Setup DNS on the server
    2. Setup DNS on another machine/server
Here is what I would recommend:
    1. Setup DNS on your Mini
    2. Add the IP of your Mini as the DNS server for your clients.
    3. Keep your Airport as the DHCP server
Page 19 is assuming you have asked your ISP to add a DNS record for your domain. If you have not done that, nothing will be able to find your server.
As far as dyndns, you could use them as a DNS server for external access. You setup an account, add your external IP for the address you setup with them and that is pretty much it. You can run the updater on your server which will track your IP and update it in the event you have a dynamic IP and it changes.

  • Problems with setting up my ISP's mail server in Windows Live Mail and Thunderbird

The laptop is a G60-535DX with Windows 7  64 bit. I've managed to setup my gmail account fine in Live Mail, but when setting  up my ISP' mail server, it doesn't work. I get the message that the information was entered correctly, and I see the 'connecting' at the bottom of the page, and then 'error', and clicking on it shows a socket error #10061. In Thunderbird, I get a timeout error message. I've entered all the incoming and outgoing server information correctly, (I've done this over 8-9 times now), the ports are the defaults(110,25), no SSL, no authentication. I've talked with my ISP several times. Just a couple of hours ago was the last time. Their only other possibilities were that Live Mail had problems with setting up more than one account, that Live Mail needed updating, that Windows 7 was a new operating system and there were 'kinks'. I removed the gmail account, set up the ISP's mail by itself; didn't help. I checked for Live Mail updates, but found out that they all come from Windows updates(which are current).  The folks on PCQ&A inform me that they have 3 or 4 accounts with Live Mail. I can get my mail, by logging onto my ISP's website, but that' kind of a nuisance. I posted this in Seven Forums and they didn't have any ideas. As I said, I also can't get my mail server to work in Thunderbird, either.  I don't know what else to try. (short of activating the recovery partition and starting from scratch). Any ideas would be more that welcome.
    Thanks,
    Steve

Nevermind, it's fixed. One of the guys on PCQ&A suggested going to my ISP's website to see if they had a support page. They did and it stated that under certain circumstances that for the login ID the whole email address should be entered. For XP and Outlook Express one only uses the first part of the email address (your name); so just for grins I entered the whole address, name and all and everyting worked. Called my ISP and was told that that wasn't the way it's supposed to work. Well----
    Thanks anyway,

Mine works the same way_must enter full email address as login. AT&T?

  • Name server problem on install

    Hello,
just wondering if anyone can help - haven't had too much (very little) experience with solaris (or unix for that matter).
When installing Solaris 10 from cd (sparc) I get to the 'Confirm Information' screen, click confirm and it comes back with an error stating that 'The Name Server information entered is incorrect'.
The problem is that the NS's I entered are exactly the same as the NS's on my windows machine - also hooked up to the same router.
If I accept the supposed incorrect settings and continue the install everything completes ok - except the system can't resolve names. Here's the really strang bit - I can do an nslookup of www.google.com no problem (returning from the first NS entered) but can't do a lookup of anything else.
The DNS's are external to my network (supplied by ISP) and the connection is ADSL.
Other options set in setup : DHCP - no (Static public subnetted IP), Kerberos - no, Search Domain : none, Route :specified, ipv6 - no.
(during setup)The Solaris Install Console shows:
    Completing system identification...
runCmd error in /usr/sbin/sysidput with output:
    Unable to run cmd: /usr/sbin/sysidput
Any help would be much appreciated. (and apologies if this is something I should have picked up on in the docs - I did read as much as I could and I have searched the net for an answer to this)(I have also posted this on the install forum, but got no replies)
    Gar

You should provide a bit more info on how your network is setup. How are you connected to the ADSL? Does your router have DHCP?
The DNS information you fill in during install is not ment for external DNS servers it's your local networks DNS server.
It is used to verify that the hostname you entered exists in the network/domain.
You could of course fill in external dns servers, but you'd allways end up with a 'can't resolv'. Simply because YOUR hostname does not excist on the external DNS server.
As Codename47 suggests, try not filling in a dns server. (use the hosts file instead)
Just an extra tip that appearantly some don't seems to know:
you don't have to reinstall to get it sorted. The command 'sys-unconfig' will force a reboot and guide you through the exact same configuration menu you had during install. Updating all locale, X and network settings along the way.
The nice thing is you can do it over again till you get it right and fully understand what it all means and changes.

  • Problem with SCs that created before the Name Server was configured

    Hello,
I have created an SC and developed it.
When I created it, the Name Server wasn't configured and because of that, when I created new DC for this SC I needed to write the vendor manually. Lets assume I wrote example.org.
Sometime after I did configured the Name Server and I reserved example.org as a namespace prefix.
When I create new SC and new DCs in it everything is OK: Instead of writing example.org as my vendor I can choose from a combo box between sap.com and my own which is example.org.
The problem arises with the SC that has been developed before the Name server was configured: If I create new DC for it the vendor is shaded with sap.com inside with no option to change it, even though the previous DCs for this SC were created under the vendor example.org (which I entered manually).
I assume I can (with a lot of manual work) create new SC and move the DCs (or only their code) to the newly created SC, where I have the option to choose, but I am looking for more simpler solution. For example, changing a certain configuration file at the SC or so.
    Anyone has an idea?
    Thank you in advance,
    Roy

  • Problem of "NAME SERVER"

    Hello
I've find a problem during deploy of applicationi in Netweaver Developer Studio.
I've build a new Dictionary project.
I've buil a new table with some rows into this project.
    I've deploy dictionary project.
I've send my dictionary project on DTR and another user have take this project making "CREATE PROJECT".
Now this user have my porject in local.
The problem born when this second user try to modify the table. When this user add a new row, for example,an error is visualized. this error say that "CAN'T FIND NAME SERVER".
What is name server ??? why this error born only if anoter user try to modify my table ????
I can see that this problem born after that I've send the dictionary project on DTR..... why ????
    thank you very much
    Stefano

    Hi Stephano,
after you configure the SLD to be your name server, you then need to configure you DTR so that it will use that name server.
To do this you go to this URL of your DTR:
    http://<host>:<httpPort>/dtr/system-tools/administration/NameServerConfiguration
On this page, just enter in the URL to the server that runs the SLD: http://<host>:<httpPort>/
And then add the user name and password to access this system.
    Hope this helps!
    Cheers,
    Jeff

  • Net8: Names server problem

Does anyone know how to set up an Oracle Names server properly. I realize that there are two methods , one using cache replication and the other a dedicated database for name resolution. Anyway, when use the GUI tools to create a Names server, I notice that (on NT) that a service is created and it has a registry entry pointed to a file called Names.exe. However, there is no file called Names.exe on my system.

  • Why does Reader 11 incorrectly set the DDE Server Name?

It appears to me that the installer is setting the DDE Server name in the registry to 'AcroviewR10' instead of the 'AcroviewR11'.
I confirmed by upgrading from Reader 9.5.x (DDE == Acroview) to Reader 11 (as of Oct 22, 2012) and the new value in the registry (XP and 7) was AcroviewR10.
I know there was a similiar issue when Reader 10 was released. Is there any idea when an update might come out that will fix this? I hate having to give customer's .reg files to fix these issues.
I understand that you are new to updating this variable every release, and so it isn't a part of your checklist yet, but it would be highly appreciated if you could remember that for version 12.

I had this working using the registry lookup this week. During testing on various machines, I found a discrepancy between the registry dde name and the dde name that acrobat would respond to.  I finally just made an array of possible names and iterated through them.
I'm harvesting the application name from HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \Software\Classes\acrobat\shell\open\ddeexec\application in the registry.
Capitalization does not seem to matter but I'll include the exact caps from my tests.
    Today :
Acrobat XI Pro (11.0.06) shows up in the registry as AcroViewA10 but it responds to acroviewa11.
Acrobat XI Pro (11.0.0) shows up in the registry as AcroViewA10 but it responds to acroviewa11.
Acrobat Reader XI (11.0.06) shows up in the registry as AcroView
R10 but it responds to acroviewr11.
Acrobat X Reader (10.1.9) shows up in registry as AcroViewR10 and responds to acroviewr10.
Reader 9 (9.0.0) shows up in registry as AcroViewA10 and responds to acroview. (The registry may be skewed by having Acrobat XI Pro installed on this machine.)
Reader 7 (7.1.0) shows up in registry as AcroView and responds to acroview.
So, I'm just brute forcing through all 5 known combinations plus 2 for version 12 on the off chance that the naming doesn't break pattern again.
    #define maxnames 7
    DIMENSION acronames (maxnames )
    acronames(1) = "acroview"
    acronames(2) = "acroviewa11"
    acronames(3) = "acroviewr11"
    acronames(4) = "acroviewa10"
    acronames(5) = "acroviewr10"
    acronames(6) = "acroviewa12"
    acronames(7) = "acroviewr12"
    loop
         AcroChanNum = DDEINITIATE(acronames(namecounter ), "Control")
         namecounter = namecounter + 1
          blah blah
    until AcroChanNum >=0

  • Serious problem! Setting per-request proxy server

    Hello all,
I wrote the usual code for setting a proxy server for my application:
    System.setProperty( "proxySet", "true" );
    System.setProperty( "http.proxyHost", "xxx" );
    System.setProperty( "http.proxyPort", "xxx" );
    System.setProperty("http.proxyUser", "xxx");
System.setProperty("http.proxyPassword", "xxx"); but now I need to set these properties only for my own requests, because many different application run in my same JVM and they don't have to use a proxy for their connections.
I'll be grateful if you'll hellp me.
