Problem upgrading to 10.4 from 10.3.9 and a external DVD?

Hello,
To use my new ipod touch i have to intall Os 10.4 on my emac.
I have purchace the Tiger V10.4 DVD for the emac.
When i tried to install it the first time i found out my DVD reader/burner is broken ?.... ok no problem...i when out and spent 60$ to buy a external DVD player/burner.
But now... It wont install ?
I have tried to install it from the DVD using the C key on restard, switching startup disk in the preference systeme...and it just wont do it ?
I can install all the otter sofware included in the DVD's...but not OS X 10.4 ??
I have read somewere that its possible a installation wont work if we are not using a hardware made by Mac ? but i was not able to find a solution to this ?
I have tried to copy the disk on my computor HD and start it from there, but no success ? maybe im not doing it the rigth way ? i migth be forgetting someting ?
Any suggestions ?
Any idea on what could cause this problem ? (beside buying a PC of a new Mac)

You cannot boot a PowerPC Mac from a USB device. You need an external Firewire DVD drive.
If you have a another Mac that supports firewire available you can install using Firewire Target Disk Mode. Here's how:
• Boot the Mac with working optical drive in Firewire Target Disk Mode.
• Insert install disk into Target Computer's optical drive.
• Connect computers via firewire cable
• Option Boot computer to which you want to install.
• Select Install Disk for startup and click on the straight arrow.
• Proceed with Installation

To clarify slightly what others have said, Apple licences the grey system discs that come with a Mac for use only with that specific Mac, not for use with any other Mac, even one of exactly the same model. So using them with any other Mac violates the terms of the license & should be avoided. In a word, yes. In a little more detail.... When you restore from an iCloud backup, you must erase the device and start all over again. There is no other way to access the backup in iCloud without erasing the device. Consequently, you are starting all over again. Therefore, it would also be my assumption that Pages and Numbers will work again and that the deleting apps issues would be fixed as well.
If the documents are not in the backup, and you do not have a backup elsewhere, the documents could be gone forever.

After starting, Mail answers are very very slow. The same for Note. Instead of, sending mails is only a bit slower than before upgrading.
In Safari, I choose Goggle as starting page in Preferences, but at every restart misses that starting page and the search strip says "Seek Google or instert an address".

I assume the installation requires more memory than the OS actually needs to be able to run.
I need Tiger install CD/DVD so I can install Tiger first and then upgrade to Leopard.

Call Apple Customer Support 1-800-767-2775, provide the Serial Number and specifications of the Mac, and for a reasonable fee, they will supply a replacement set of system discs (if available).
The discs will be for the original version of the OS that was pre-installed when the Mac was manufactured.
You need much more RAM than that.

I installed Leopard 10.5.6 and then it upgraded to 10.5.8, when I installed it I had the old info saved to a "previous systems" folder, where most of my artwork, etc. were saved, I have a one terabyte Lacie backup that unfortunately did not work as it was intended...it saved the new info and not the old. I did look into the system preferences folder and found the classic file, of course it wouldn't launch...but I have the old G 5 startup discs and will try to do it as you stated. I will try also to move it out of the previous folders file to my hard drive and see how that works.

You need to use all programs because each detects different malware.

The CheckPlaces extension can restore favicons. It is also great for checking bookmarks to ensure that they are still valid.

Problems importing the same clips from diferents cards IMAC and CS5

Hi, I'm having trouble importing my clips recorded in The ex1, I'm using CS5 with an imac, The problem is that when I import the same clips recorded in two cards, the second card comes exactly with what is inside the first card. It does not have what was originally in it, it just copies what was on the first card or vice versa. But the original folder in my drive is intact with the two cards intact. The problem is when I import it to CS5 on IMAC. When i import the video the imac makes a long file with all the clips an puts them together except the clips from the previous card, it shows but with the same video that is in the begining of the second card or the last clip recorded in the second card .I tried to import the clip again from the first card and it comes with the same video from the second card again.

I'm not clear what procedure you're using here. Using a cloud for storage might change some file tags. Generally users I think keep the library on the same drive as the media, keeping the library backups on the system. There is no real benefit in keeping the media in a separate location. Often users will keep the library in the same folder as the media. It makes backing up using tools like Carbon Copy Cloner very efficient.

It might be a missing element in a compound clip, a missing or altered layer in a graphics file, a missing font, a missing effect. These will show up inside the item involved, but may not be apparent in the browser. A missing transition for instance will not be seen until you skim over the project or try to export it.
2) The 43 MB is a small amount of optimized media. This never prevents relinking. The library is always looking for original media, or proxy media if you're in proxy playback. It never looks for optimized media. If it has it, it uses it, if it doesn't, it uses the original media. If you are using original/optimized playback, you must have the original files. The optimized files are not enough.

Having problem upgrading Power PC G4 from 10.3 to 104

I want to install Tiger 10.4 on my G4 Power PC dual 450 machine in order to run some new applications.
I have purchased the DVD for 10.4.3.
I tried to "upgrade" the current operating system (10.3.9) but after the software runs to the end of the install process, I get the message that it was "unsuccessful" and I should "try again". Subsequent tries also failed.
Next I tried installing using the "archive and install" option. Same results.
I noticed in the literature that a firmware upgrade might be needed before the install but no warning message was given (instructions say that the install software would advise if necessary). So I really don't want to update the firmware and get into other problems.
Does anyone know what problem might be present and how to fix it.

Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Is the Tiger install disk you purchased the Full Retail Version, or is it a gray computer specific disk? This is important, because computer specific disks are intended only for the computer to which they are specific while the Fulll Retail Version is a universal install that has drivers for all Macs that support the OS.
Next, I suggest that you first make a backup/clone of you entire volume. A bootable clone on an external firewire drive works best as you can boot the computer from it, in case of emergencies.
Then I would Repair Disk
Insert Installer disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu (Panther and earlier) or Utilities menu (Tiger) and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel, and report if it says anything but Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
If DU reports errors it cannot repair you will need to use a utility like Tech Tool Pro or Disk Warrior
And finally, if you have the right install disk, have backed up your computer and are sure that you are not installing to a problem volume here are directions for installing.
Installation Process
• With computer shut down insert install disk in optical drive.
• Hit Power button and immediately after chime hold down the "C" key.
• Select language
• Open Installer and begin installation.
• Select installation option
• Choose to Customize and deselect Foreign Language Translations and Additional Printer drivers.
Optional: Check box to install X11 (Tiger and later) BSD Subsystems (Panther & earlier).
• Proceed with installation.
• After installation computer will restart for setup.
• After setup, reboot computer.
• Go to Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility.
• Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in left side bar.
• Select First Aid in main panel.
• Click Repair Disk Permissions.
• Connect to Internet.
• Download and install Mac OS X 10.4.11 Combo update (PPC) (Tiger)
Computer will restart.
• Repair Disk Permissions as previously.
• Go to Apple Menu > Software Update.
• Install all updates.
Computer may restart after updates.
• Go to Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility.
• Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in left side bar.
• Select First Aid in main panel.
• Click Repair Disk Permissions.

Problems upgrading to snow leopard from leopard

I have big problems with my iMac since trying to upgrade from leopard to snow leopard last night.
I went through the instillation disc but after the restart my mac won't open up, it just hangs on a white screen with an apple logo and spinning icon (not beach ball).
The snow leopard disc is still in the drive.
Just to clarify, the instillation was successful, but when prompt to restart the mac won't.
The mac is well up to the specs of snow leopard, and after snow leopard i was planning on upgrading to lion.
Can anyone please advise me?

You apprantly have some older third party software that has installed a at boot kernel extension file, you need to look at
#7 Safe Mode and "Gray Screen" issues (also can be white or blue)
then drop down to #14 to find out what is the problem in Console
uninstall this software or update it so it's compatbile with 10.6.
you also need to use Software update under the Apple menu and follow the other fixes accordingly.
Step by Step to fix your Mac
If you can't get things to work then drop down and do a #18 Reinstall Just OS X

I upgraded my Airport Express from g to n and now my older desktop running 10.5.8 cannot connect even when I supply the correct password. Do I need to update the airport in the 10.5.8 system? What version is recommended?

I recently replaced my Airport Express (11g) to one running 11n. My iMac running 10.4.11 uded to work fine with 11g but now cannot connect to the 11n Airport Express. I can see the network listed and it asks for a WAP2 password, but when I supply the password it fails to connect.
Do I need to upgrade the airport software on the iMac, and to which version.

Thank you for the suggestions. I tried first setting the radio mode to 802.11b/g compatible using the Option key hint that you supplied, but I got the same error message when I tried to join the network from my older Mac. (I apologize for saying in error that it was running 10.5.8, it was actually running 10.4.11--the last version that still supported Classic--and is a G4 PPC machine.)
The attempt to login to the network from the PPC machine gave me the standard log-in prompt, but I noticed that it asked for the WAP password, and my two other machines--both Intel MacBooks--get asked for the WAP2 password. The first time I noticed this I was still thinking the "error in trying to join the network" was a function of the 802.11n setup.
When your first suggestion didn't work, I reset the base station back to the original 802.11n (b & g compatible) but got the same error message--asking for a WAP password--so I went back into the setup, and selected the WAP/WAP2 Personal menu selection, restarted the base station, and was able to successfully join the network!

Is there anyway to upgrade my Ipad 2 from ios6 to ios7 and NOT ios8?

I have an Ipad 2+cdma with ios6.0.1 installed on it currently.
I have a specific app that works in ios7 but not in ios6 or ios8
The app is KeyPad Plus Pro https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/keypad-plus-pro/id503713794?mt=8
This version ios 6.0.1 causes this app to crash (on attempting a manual network connection to TightVNC the app crashes). However the app will not work with ios8 as stated from app developer. (I also have an Ipad mini+GSM with ios 7.0.6 on it and this same app works flawlessly. So I know it will work with ios7.0.6)
Is there any way to upgrade from ios 6.0.1 to ios7 but not ios8?
I have tried installing ios 7.0.6 to this ipad using Itunes and shift/restore using a downloaded ios7.0.6 version but I get an error (3194) saying the Ipad could not be restored. It seems my only option is upgrading to ios8.1.3

DVR Upgrade; Remove Old DVRs from List on Web and Mobile User Interfaces

I have upgraded two HD DVRs to the hardware with more storage space. The new DVRs appear on the list of available DVRs on both the web and mobile applications for DVR management. The old, uninstalled DVRs also continue to appear. How can I remove the old DVRs from these lists?

Provided you returned the old DVR's using the materials and instructions that should have been provided when you received your new units, the old DVR's should disappear from your account in a week or two after they've been received and processed by Verizon. I just renamed mine to "Returned" or something like that so that I would know to ignore them until they went away.
If it takes more than one full billing cycle and they still haven't disappeared, then I'd call to find out why they are still in your account (i.e. have your tracking information ready because it sounds like they may have gotten lost along the way).

It seems that the update scripts got problems because we had used portalAdmin to add new data content types. The update scripts try to add new types too, but use hardcoded primary keys that will already be in use if new data content types are added by the administrator.
