Problem with default printers

Post Author: Nataly
CA Forum: Crystal Reports
I had SQL Server 2000 and Crystal Reports 8.0 installed on Windows 2000. ASP intranet application was working fine and users had their crystal reports on their default printers. After upgrading Windows 2000 to Windows 2003 Crystal doesn't recognize users default printers any more  and choose one particular printer on network no matter what users default printer is. They can choose the necessary one still, but it realy bothers them because they get use to have it in a right way. Please, help!

What information should I provide?

  • Problems with deployed printers

We have printers deployed to our buildings via Group Policy. We're having intermittent problems with the printers getting mapped for the users. We have a mixed Windows 7 and 8.1 environment. From what I can tell the Windows 7 almost always work. However
for the Windows 8.1 ones its intermittent. The error in the Application log for the machines that do not get the printers is this:
The user 'Hard-IMC-1nb-test' preference item in the 'Student Mandatory {0FA26CC5-C001-4A02-AACE-930581B7A1CF}' Group Policy Object did not apply because it failed with error code '0x80070057 The parameter is
    incorrect.' This error was suppressed.
Hard-IMC etc is the printer share name. Student Mandatory is the name of the policy.
The strange thing is some students login and get all printers, some it gets this. I tried adding another printer share to the same printers with say a PCL5 driver vs a PCL 6. And it'll work fine for a few days then that one falls into the mix of not getting
mapped. This is happening in all of our buildings each has its own local 2008 R2 print server. If I create a test account and login to the same PC as a student that doesn't get the printers it works fine for about 9-10 logins and then it starts happening to
the test account. Its like the problem takes a few logins to occur. I've looked at some of our printers and they use the same manufacturer driver for both Win 7 and 8.1 so its not a driver issue especially since a lot of the times they do map.
The only thing I've been able to find out is that on Win7 its not happening. Nothing else makes sense. There is no pattern to time of day or account. The machines all have the same image and updates etc. Can anyone give me a direction to look at. We have
too many PC's to do printers individually.
    Thanks
    Jason

    Hi Jason,
Before going further, sorry for the late response.
    >>If I create a test account and login to the same PC as a student that doesn't get the printers it works fine for about 9-10 logins and then it starts happening to the test account. Its like the problem takes a few logins to occur
Based on the description, after the issue occurs, please log out the users, log in again, and then run the command
gpresult/h gpreport.html to collect group policy result to check if the group policy settings still apply correctly.
Besides, what printers do we use? For this involves third party hardware product, and in order to better troubleshoot the issue, we can also contact vendor company to see if they have some suggestions for this issue.

  • Table editor problem with default value for column

    Hi there,
I'm trying to use SQL Developer 1.2.1 on Ubuntu 7.10 (though I don't think the OS is relevant) and I'm running into a snag when trying to update table structures. If you go to edit the table to say modify a column name, and that column has a default value set, SQL Developer is encapsulating the value with brackets and quotes. When trying to save the changes, it complains about the default value being 4 chars too many for the column width. An example of this would be a currency code column of varchar2 (3) set with EUR as the default. SQL Developer changes the value to ('EUR') hence the error.
Is there anyway to prevent this from happening?
    Cheers,
    Chris

Could you please be more specific? In 1.2.1.32.40 I
added the column COL1 VARCHAR2(3) with default value
'EUR'. The data display field refreshed to show the
default value, so I edited it in a couple of entries
and comitted the change without problem. Then I
renamed the column from the "Edit table" popup menu.
Finally, I renamed the column from the "Rename
column" popup menu, no problem either.Ah, you are correct. That does work. What I was trying is select tablename in the object browser, then right click on it and select "Edit" from the contextual menu. You are then presented with edit table dialog box. If you then select a column in that box you will see a column properties box. In that section you can change the name, default value, datatype et cetera. Note that your default column value which should just be EUR (or 'EUR' to denote that it's a string) is now ('EUR'). Once you try changing the name to of the column to something else and then click OK, you should then get an error complaining of "Invalid varchar2 default value" with a more specific message of "Default values size 7 is greater than the allowed 3"
You have provided a work around, and thanks for that, but it would be nice to edit everything in the Edit table dialog box if you're modifying more than one column name. I'm tasked with cleaning up a bit of a messy database, and there are a good deal of columns to be renamed.
    Cheers,
    Chris

  • Problem with default file access permission

    Hi,
I am accessing a common area '/NFS_DATA' by both my java and oracle codes by the users 'javaUsr' and 'oraUsr' respectively.
As per the requirement, the oracle code (oraUsr) needs to create some file in the specified location and then the java code (javaUsr) needs to update those files (created by oraUsr) with some new data.
At present scenario the 'oraUsr' creates files with default access permission 644, which does not permit 'javaUsr' to update them.
Constraints : I am not supposed to set umask at the .profile of 'oraUsr'.
Execution of any shell script from oracle procedure is not permitted.
Is it possible to specify file-system specific default file access permissions??
Any idea to overcome this issue??

    man setfacl(1)
    as oraUsr
    setfacl -s user:oraUsr:rw-,user:javaUsr:rwx,group::r--,other:---,mask:rwx file
This way the oraUsr can not execute file
    but javausr can
    getfacl will show the ACL
    user::rw-
    user:javaUsr:rwx #effective:rwx
    group::rw- #effective:rw-

  • Problems with Default Encoding in Mail

I have been trying to change my default encoding settings in Apple Mail to Unicode-8. It has become necessary because some of the outlook clients that my colleagues use see my messages with control-characters/question marks. I know that this problem has been visited before and from the past posts I understand that closing the Mail and typing the following in the Terminal will do the trick:
    defaults write com.apple.mail NSPreferredMailCharset "UTF-8"
I tried that several times and for some reason when I try to compose a new message, the encoding is set to "Automatic".
I would appreciate ANY help in this regard. I have been trying to get more information on this but my search has not yet been fruitful.
    Thank you very much.
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

I do have the same problem as Steathford do, I tried
to add a dingbat without success (scissor), I still
    have same "chinese signs everywhere",
I've never seen a case where the dingbat did not work. Could you send me an example? You need to go to your Sent folder, choose a message where you did this, and do Message > Send Again, and replace the original addressee with my email (tom at bluesky dot org).
When adding a dingbat, you must use the Character Palette as shown here, and not just change your font.

  • Problem with defaulted date but only in workbook

    Hi all,
I have a weird date problem here. One of my queries has a "key date" which I default to the current date in the variable user exit. When I run the query, it works fine. However, when we run the workbook, things go wrong. With my date settings (DD.MM.YYYY), there is no issue, but the end users all have the American date setting (MM/DD/YYYY). Whenever one of them runs the workbook, we get an error before the variable screen is shown. The error message is as follows:
Please enter value in permitted format for variable Key Due Date.
Value "" for variable "" is invalid.
Program error in class SAPMSSY1 method: UNCAUGHT_EXCEPTION
System error in program CL_RSR_XLS_WORKBOOK and form SERIALIZE: 01 (see long text)
As soon as I change the end user's date settings, the workbook runs fine.
    Any clue?
    RafB

seems to be linked to user specific date settings... pretty weird as SAP should automatically convert according to the user settings

  • Multiple ALV Grid Controls per report - problem with default displ.variant

    Hi,
I have a report with few screens called sequentialy. Each one of the screens has implemented own instance of ALV Grid Control within custom container, means:
    - screen 100 has container Cont100 and grid control "grid100",
    - screen 110 has container Cont110 and grid control "grid110"
    - screen 120 has container Cont120 and grid control "grid120"
    and so on...
Each one of the grid controls is initialized with own field catalog table, with own layout and variant structure definitions. My problem occurs when the user changes the display variant for some of the grid controls and save the layout variant using "default setting" checkbox. In this case next time the program is started all other grid controls behaves like they don't have their own variant definitions, but uses the default setting of the mentioned screen. This leads (usualy) to unsuable grid controls by default, because usualy different controls have no equal field-definition tables. I have the same behaviour even when there are more than 1 ALV grids on a single screen (for example - 2).
For now I don't provide variant variables at selection screen, but it seems there is no way to provide such variables for each one of the grid-controls.
Is anyone aware how to control this? Means no matter if there is default setting in use for some of the grid-controls, how to manipulate other grid-controls not to use this default setting?
    Many thanks in advance.

    Ivaylo Mutafchiev

  • Problems with default domain with Weblogic 9.1 server

    Hi,
Today I've been installing Weblogic 9.1 on our Red Hat (CentOS 4) server. After good experiences with BEA Weblogic local on my Windows machine I'm trying it on the server.
But after installing Weblogic and setting a default domain (automagicly generated) and trying to logon to the Admin Console I run into a problem.
When I login with false ID I it gives me a security alert and doesn't let me in, but if I login with the correct name+password it doesn't say anything but redirects me to the same login-page again...
I'm out of ideas on what it could be, and the biggest problem is that its the default domain it creates when I run the bin. Any ideas on what settings could do this?

    Ah, found some more information!
When I try to login with the ip adres it works but not when I use the hostname. Now I have a good indication on where to look to solve the problem.

  • Problem with default program to open certain files.

My MacBook came with a trial version of Microsoft Office built in. Having already purchased a full version, I uninstalled the trial and installed the full version. The problem I am having is that when I go to open a Word document, it tries to open it with the trial version of Word that is no longer there. I tried changing the default program in Finder but it keeps switching back, thus giving me errors every time I try to open a Word document. If you could help it would be greatly appreciated. If you need more information, let me know.

It sounds like your Launch Services database may be corrupt. Try downloading a copy of Cocktail (shareware, but I think you can try it) and in the System pane, select Misc tab and click on the button to rebuild the Launch Services database. In rare cases, this database (which the Finder uses to maintain file associations) can get messed up.

  • Problems with Ricoh printers.

    Hello,
I have installed a ONPLUS agent in a network and where the device is connected to the network the Ricoh SP 5100N printers becomes unreachables in the network. It seems that the printers locks.
    Somebody knows this issue?
    Regards,
    Vicente Ilerbaig.

    Vicente,
Shot in the dark here. If you're not using SMB Discovery on the ON100, you might consider turning that off. Shouldn't be an issue since it's a printer but the perfect set of circumstances might trigger some sort of security protocol or preventative measure on the Ricoh to self preserve. Another option might be to turn off the NetBIOS Discovery in the ON100. Though this will deminish the value of OnPlus it might help in troubleshooting down the root cause if it does remedy it. Both can be turned off by drilling into the ON100 for the site in OnPlus, selecting Device Options and unchecking the respective boxees. For troubleshooting purposes I would recommend doing one at a time.  If you're not using the SMB Discovery, I would recommend turning it off by default to prevent getting security failures on Windows devices with the source of ON100.
    Questions
If you remove the ON100 from the network and restart the Ricoh printers, do they go back to working without issue?
If so, when you put the ON100 back on the network, how long does it take before they become unreachable again?
As well, when you look in OnPlus, did the ON100 detect them and if so what did it determine the devices to be?

  • Problems with Managed Printers

Our school has two main types of users: Faculty and Students. We want Students to be able to print to one list of printers and Faculty to print to a different list. In Workgroup Manager I have specified the lists and when a user logs in they can see that list and print with no issues. The problem is that after they log out of a public computer, their list is not cleared away. So if a Faculty user logs in after a Student user (or vice-versa), they can now see both lists of printers combined. Is there something I am missing to make this work?
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi Jason,
Before going further, sorry for the late response.

    Hi @Martin1982,
Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions, I do appreciate it.
Please set a manual IP address and manual DNS servers for the printer.  The steps can be found in the Printer Does Not Maintain Wireless Connection document.  It is Solution Three.  For the Primary DNS Server please use 209.244.0.3 and for the Alternate DNS server please use 209.244.0.4.  These are Level3’s public DNS servers.
Please let me know the outcome.

  • Exchange 2013: Problem with Default Global Address List after migration

I just completed a migration from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013.  The 2007 box has been decommissioned just last week.  I have been seeing weird issues with our offline addressbook and global address list, since the migration, but always thought
it was related to Ex2007.  Well the issues still exist and here's what i've found so far:
    1.  If any user goes to Schedule Appointment in Outlook, and they click the Rooms button (on the Scheduling Assistant page), we get a LONG wait (about 5 mins or more) and then an error that says:  "The operation could not be completed because
an offline address book is not available.  Download a copy of the offline address book."  When i click OK, the address book is up, with the "All Rooms" list showing blank (we have 3 rooms in Exchange currently).
    2.  Now if I go to the Address Book in Outlook it opens to the GAL and it's up to date...  I can also force an update to the offline address book after adding a new group or entry, so i know offline address books are being updated properly and
working.  HOWEVER, if i go to any of the other address lists (besides Contacts and GAL) under All Address Lists (All Contacts, All Groups, All Rooms, All Users and Public Folders) I get the same error given above:  "The operation could not be
completed because an offline address book is not available.  Download a copy of the offline address book."
    3.  I went to the Exchange 2013 EAC and went to Organization -> Address Lists.  Everything under here said 'NO' under the Up-to-Date column.  When i looked at the properties on each list, and clicked save, I had to update to the new version.
After doing this, the Up-to-Date column said 'YES'.  I could do all lists EXCEPT for the GAL.  It still says 'NO'
    4.  The last thing i did was set my Outlook to NOT be in cached mode.  This should give me a direct connection to the GAL and all lists, if I'm not mistaken...  So when i do this, I cannot even open see the GAL.  The ONLY option in the
Address Book that comes up is Contacts (which are my personal ones).
    5.  I just now ran Get-GlobalAddressList | fl  in powershell on the Ex2013 server.  I see some things that make me wonder...   First; nothing in the RecipientFilter field, however, there is something in the LdapRecipientFilter field.
Second; the RecipientFilterType field says "Legacy".  and Third; the RecipientFilterApplied field says "False".
Didn't know what these should all be, but it appears maybe this is the cause of all my issues??  Can someone help me out here.. even if i have to recreate a new GAL, i'm fine with that, I just don't know all the steps to do so.  I just need it
    to work!
    Thanks
    Jeff

    Hi,
In my opinion, it is better to confirm whether the GAL is good, first.
How about the GAL working in OWA?
If GAL working well in OWA, it seems the issue on the Outlook Client or Connectivity side.
Please trying to run Outlook on the safe mode to avoid some AVs, add-ins and firewall for testing.
Please follow the steps as below to narrow down the OAB issue.
Following are the locations that .lzx files in CAS server and BMX server:
    CAS:
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\ClientAccess\OAB
    MBX:
    C:\Program Files\Micorosft\Exchange Server\V15\ExchangeOAB
Please verify whether the .lzx files update to the latest.
    1. If the .lzx files in MBX server not update to the latest.
It should be an issue on the OAB generation side.
    2. If the .lzx files in MBX server is latest, but CAS server not.
It should be a distribution issue.
     1) Please run Get-OabVirtualDirectory command in EMS to verify whether at least one OAB VD exist in the org. If not, please create a new one.
     2) Please make sure whether any setup for Web Distribution. Selecting the “Enabling an Offline Address Book for Web Distribution” checkbox.
     3) Please force restart File Distribution services to distribute OAB files manually.
    3. If the .lzx files in MBX server and CAS server are all update to the latest.
It should be the connectivity between CAS server and Client issue.
     1)Please verify the network.
2)Please check DNS, MX, etc. configuration.
3)Please run “Test E-mail AutoConfiguration” to check the AutoDiscover details.
Please make sure the OAB URLs are correct.
If the OAB URLs are incorrect, please using following command to re-set them:
Set-OABVirtualDirectory -Identity "ServerFQDN\OAB (Default Web Site)" -ExternalUrl
    https://www.contoso.com/OAB -InternalUrl
    https://mail.contoso.com/OAB
4)Please checking the App log and finding solutions from Microsoft Technet articles or KB, according to the Event ID.
5)If it still not working after performing the methods above unfortunately, please trying to re-build OAB Virtual Directory.

  • Problem with default namespaces

    Hello,
I'm using version 2.3.10 of Berkeley XML.
All my XML documents have a default namespace declared in the root element, like this:
    <rootElement xmlns="http://www....something.../something">
but I get errors when I query the documents - and the only way of avoiding the errors seems to be by manually removing the default namespace attribute.
I tried setting the XmlQueryContext.setNamespace("", myUri) - but it doesn't work. I saw this mentioned in another post - and you said it was scheduled to work that way in the next release.
Can you tell me when the next release will be, and what I can do right now to get around this problem. I need to keep the xmlns attribute in the root element since I have other applications which need to access the documents before I put them into the database and they make use of it.
    Kind Regards
    Swami Kevala

    Hi Swami,
    You have two options:
    1) Bind a prefix to your namespace URI, and use that prefix in your queries:
    XmlQueryContext.setNamespace("pre", myUri);
    XmlManager.query("/pre:rootElement", qc);
    2) Bind the default element namespace inside the query:
    XmlManager.query("declare default element namespace \"" + myUri + "\"; /rootElement", qc);

  • Case structure problem with default 0, 1, 2

    Good afternoon,
I have a question about the case structure. If you use 3 cases, default 0, 1 and 2, like in the following VI.
How can you fix that the sum is never 3? Because when you turn on the switch 1 and 2 simultaneously it gives the sum 3 and the case will go in the default stand.
    Thanks for the help.

I recommend changing to using an Event Structure.  That way you react to when a switch is toggled instead of constantly polling.
What I would do is, with the Event Structure, have a case for each switch's value change.  In the event case, you use a property node to set the Disabled property of the other switch based on the current switches value (Switch 1 goes true, so disable switch 2)
