Problem with ping

I am using isReachable method of InetAddress class for checking if the host is alive or not. This method returns false. But if i invoke ping using Runtime class I get response from that host ....also if i try to do ping from command line even then I get reply for this host? Why isReachable is returning false??? Any ideas?? that host is not behind any firewall......pls help...

So presumably the ping command doesn't do the same thing as what the isReachable method does. The documentation says what isReachable does, so now you have to compare that to what ping does.

  • Problem with Ping followers

I have a problem with iTunes Ping that I wasn't able to solve no matter how hard I tried.
Basically I deactivated my Ping account and later reactivated it, just to find out that I now cannot be followed again by those who were following me before and vice versa.
The number of people I follow still counts them, but they don't appear in the list and I don't see their activity, when I try to follow them again I get a notice that they will be requested, but apparently even if they accept it just won't work.
    Anyone else seen this happening?

I have this same issue. When looking at the "People Who Follow Me" page, it lists the number of people following me, but no followers are shown if they were following me before I disabled.
I even disabled the Ping account for 7 days so that they would completely remove the account. That fixed the issue where I couldn't re-follow people I had been following before I disabled the account, but not this issue. People can follow me now, however, it counts their following me as a new person and it shows that I have double the people that I do, without showing their accounts. People who started following me after the reset now show up.
Also, after I re-followed a friend I added before deactivating Ping, I do not show up on his list of followers either.

  • Problems with pinging ASA 5505

    Hi
im having strange network issues and wonder if my ASA 5505 can be the problem.
Memory usage on my ASA is 232MB of 256MB. Running 8.4(4)1
It stops responding on the inside interface suddenly when i try to ping it. We have about 20 clients on the network.
    Any ideas?

    Hi,
Is this issue intermittent or the pings are never working ?
If it is intermittent , you would have to check if the pings are even reaching the ASA device interface and that should be able to isolate the issue to the ASA hardware.
You can apply a simple capture on the Interface that you are testing with:-
    capture cap interface <Name Of Interface> match icmp host <Interface IP> <Test PC IP>
    capture asp type asp-drop all
Also , collect the show tech at that time of the issue and we should be able to verify the issue.
Is there a Layer 3 hop or another Layer 2 Switch connected between the client and the ASA device ?

  • Problem with Ping, cannot create an account (Windows 7)

Everytime I try to create a ping account, I get an itunes error code
"We could not complete your iTunes Store request. An unknown error occurred (-1202)
I googled the error code, and saw that users encountered the same error code when trying to redeem a code in the itunes store.
I checked for a fix to that reported error, and followed it with no results.
The fix had something to do with my security settings in Internet explorer.
Does anybody know how I could deal with this -1202 error code, in relation to Ping?

I'm having the same problem, only I'm operating from Vista. If I receive help, I'll be sure to pass it on!

  • Problem with DNS - ping/Safari cannot resolve, but host/dig work OK

    Hi All,
Have a weird problem with DNS which is a bit similar to the following ones:
    http://discussions.info.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2190208
    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=337942
I connect with remote internal network via OpenVPN and from time to time (yes, intermittent problem :)) internal DNS names cannot be resolved.
When it happens I can still resolve names using host or dig utilities, but applications (like Safari) and ping cannot resolve them.
resolv.conf has proper DNS server set:
    *$ cat /etc/resolv.conf*
    *# Mac OS X Notice*
*# This file is not used by the host name and address resolution*
*# or the DNS query routing mechanisms used by most processes on*
*# this Mac OS X system.*
*# This file is automatically generated.*
    *domain openvpn*
    *search openvpn*
    *nameserver 10.0.0.1*
More than that - it can resolve those internal names when queried directly, for example using host:
    *$ host YYY.XXX.ru 10.0.0.1*
    *Using domain server:*
    *Name: 10.0.0.1*
    *Address: 10.0.0.1#53*
    Aliases:
    *YYY.XXX.ru has address 192.168.x.y*
but at the same time ping reports "*Unknown host*":
    *$ ping YYY.XXX.ru*
*ping: cannot resolve YYY.XXX.ru: Unknown host*
I tried "*dscacheutil -flushcache*" and it did not help. Also tried to comment out domain and search directives in resolv.conf and it did not help as well (and actually it should not matter).
Any ideas why this can happen and what else can I check when it happens again?
    Thanks!

I have the same issue. It cropped up after I installed updates to MS Office 2008 and Firefox in which I also saw issues with the icons disappearing in the dock of the applications that were open when I started the Office update. I rebooted to try to get them back, but ended up deleting them and restoring from the Applications folder. I don't know if that's a red herring or not, but I generally try to figure out what has recently changed that may cause something to suddenly start failing.
I'd been working successfully all morning before it started acting up. Switching from wifi to cat5 had no effect.
@realaaa, were you able to resolve without a major undertaking, like reinstalling your OS?

    Hi,
WIFI stopped working after I woke the computer up, now says connected to the network but not the internet, all other coputers and devices connected still with no problems, have pinged IP address from router and got the message "4 packets sent none received"... Help
I have tried network diagnostics which doesnt help... The only other ting is, when I woke the computer up it said tat another device was using my IP... My wife had plugged her phone into the computer to charge etc but even when i turn wifi off on the phone there is no change... also in settings on the phone the IP address is different...

The answer to your question is - neither!
Your PC should to configured to obtain an IP address automatically, and to obtain DNS server IP addresses automatically, from the Airport Express. This is the way Windows (and Macs for that matter) are configued by default, and that is the way most people have their computers set up. If you manually configured your PC's IP address to be the same as your wife's Mac, it certainly explains why your PC is not able to access the internet.

  • I have a problem sending mail via smtp. I use a satellite system and the average return time for a ping is 675ms. Is this a problem with mail? If so can I change Mail to accept it. The problem also exists with Lion

I have a problem sending mail via smtp. I use a satellite system and the average return time for a ping is 675ms. Is this a problem with mail? If so can I change Mail to accept it. The problem also exists with Lion and on both my MacPro and my wife's Imac. I also see my mailboxes randomly disconnecting and reconnecting. Any other ideas of a possible cause?

I solved it myself, after the "note" which came back from FF/Mozilla just as I finished my message, commenting on what it was that my system had , I wnnt back to check my plug-ins etc. I downloaded the latest Java, BOTH 32bit AND 64 bit versions and latest Firefox.
    Now all is working.
    Thanks,
    B.

  • Problems with Wi-Fi !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Problems with Wi-Fi beginsed, Problems with Wi-Fi have begun  right after setup Mac OS X Lion. All devices can see the WiFi but they couldn't  connect to  most important resources exept googl.

The only permanent solutions I found for my setup (iMac mid 2010 Core i3 3,2 GHz / FritzBox 7270 v3) within the last three month were:
    going back to Snow Leopard
replacing Lion`s wi-fi-drivers with Snow Leopard´s old wi-fi-drivers (http://rys.pixeltards.com/2011/09/04/osx-lion-wifi.html) > only works with the atheros-chipset and you can`t use Airdrop any more...
doing a permanent ping to google.com or whatever via a terminal-window > not realy comfortable...
switching to the 5 GHz-band (802.11 n+a) in my router`s configuration > iPhones can`t join the wi-fi any more as they only support 2,4 GHz in 802.11 n...
    My choice is No. 2.
ALL the other tips/tricks/recommendations (from this community, different websites and Apple`s support-hotline) worked for some hours or days only in my case...

  • Voice problems with Lync 2013 Mobile

    Hi
I have a situation where Lync 2013 on both iPhone & Android has started giving problems with making and receiving voice calls. There are no problems with Windows, Mac or Phone Edition clients that I'm aware of. I have not tested anything over the VPN,
but this should not be a factor.
For receiving calls - If the user is connected to the LAN via Wi-Fi AND the call is from an internal user, all works fine. If the call is from an external user OR the user is connected via 3G, then the call just shows "Connecting" indefinitely.
    This includes transferred calls.
For making calls - If the user is connected to the LAN via Wi-FI and calls either an internal or external users, all works fine. If the user is connected via 3G and calls either an internal or external user, the phone rings, but when it's answered it shows
    call ended.
I have ran RUCT on a computer outside the network, with the following findings:
    DNS:

I have ran Test Port on each entry where there is a port with successful results. Ping works on all entries.
If I query Certificate Information on sip.domain.com with port 5061 or 444, it succeeds and returns the certificate with subject sip.domain.com. If I query 443, it fails with error "An error occurred while retrieving the certificate. Unable to read
data from the transport connection: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host."
On Microsoft Remote Connectivity Analyzer, all tests pass except for the certificate test:
The Microsoft Connectivity Analyzer is attempting to obtain the SSL certificate from remote server sip.domain.com on port 443
The Microsoft Connectivity Analyzer wasn't able to obtain the remote SSL certificate.
Running netstat on Lync Edge gives me the following with regards to port 443:
    TCP   <Internal IP>:443   Lync2:0   LISTENING
    TCP   <External IP>:443   Lync2:0   LISTENING
Firewall allows connections on port 443 and I've tried disabling the firewall as well. Trying to open https://sip.domain.com in the browser on the Lync Edge fails also, telnet succeeds, but no data is returned.
I've restarted the AV service and also rebooted the Lync Edge server, no change. In the topology builder, I can see that AV is configured to listen on port 443.
Any ideas would be most welcome.

Call from desktop or mobile client (regardless of location) to desktop client inside LAN - works.
Call from desktop or mobile client (regardless of location) to desktop or mobile client (regardless of location) - works.
There is no difference in behaviour between normal calls and conference calls. Reproducing the problem seems to require the following:
    1. PSTN gateway needs to be involved
    2. One party needs to be on mobile client
    3. The mobile client needs to be inside the LAN or on a 3G connection, but not behind NAT on a DSL connection
The only conclusion I can make is that somehow NAT makes the problem go away, but it does not affect desktop clients (on the LAN or Wi-Fi at least, I do not have a way to test them on 3G).
The PSTN gateway (Cisco UCM) could also be the problem, but it works fine in all other cases. It has 4 trunks and makes all kinds of routing decisions, but once a call is routed to/from Lync, it should not make a difference on what type of device it is answered.
I'm really baffled by this one. Perhaps the 3G thing is a service provider issue and the issue on the LAN has something to do with the internal DNS combined with the behaviour of the mobile client. Just not sure exactly what.

     b noir,
I can get itunes to start if I disable Bonjour or if I "repair" it first. Sometimes I can repair Bonjour though add/remove programs, sometimes it will only "repair" using WinRar. Sometimes I have to "repair" Bonjour 2 or 3 times to get iTunes to start.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling at least a dozen times. I have tried redownloading iTunes at least 5 times and from different links. This leads me to believe that the dnssd.dll file is not itself corrupt, but this newest version is causing a conflict with XP somewhere somehow.
Team, iTunes 10.2.2.12 has just been released. I installed it and checked, and BonJour's been updated to version 2.0.5.0, and there's a new 2.0.5.0 version of dnssd.dll on my system. So I reckon it's worth a try updating to that to see if it's of any help with your trouble.

We are not able to reach from 172.22.20.x ips 172.27.99.x.
It seems so that the phase2 for this subnet is missing…...... as long as we try to reach from 172.27.99.x any ip in 172.22.20.x.
We are using similar configuration on many sites and it works correctly expect sites with DSL line.
We can exclude problem with NAT,ACL or routing. The connection is working fine as long as “we open all phase 2 manually” . After re-open (idle timeout) the tunnel the problem comes back.
Thanks in advance for your help.

When you define the peer with static tunnel-group entry ASA is looking for peer configuration in static crypto map. If the peer is behind static NAT configure a proper static crypto map with matching acl and proposals.
If the peer is behind dynamic nat refer this example :http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/security/pix-500-series-security-appliances/81883-ipsec-iosrtr-dyn-pix-nat.html

  • Cisco ASA 5505 - problem with ssh, icmp on OUTSIDE interface

    Hi all,
I have a very strange problem with OUTSIDE interface and remote ssh. Well, I have followed documentation and configure remote access for ssh like this [1.]. If I want to connect from internet to OUTSIDE interface [2.] get no response and in log I can see this message [3.]. I really do not understand why is ssh connection dropped by OUTSIDE access-list [4.]? If I understand documentation correctly there is no impact for remote mangement/access like icmp, ssh, http(s) by interface access-list. So, why?
When I try ssh connection form internal network to INSIDE interface everything works fine and I can log in to ASA. If I try allow ssh in OUTSIDE access-list still no success and a get this message [5.]? It is strange, isn't?
The same problem with icmp if I want to "ping" OUTSIDE interface from internet a get thish message in log [6.] and configuration for ICMP like this [7.].
Full ASA config is in attachment.
Can anybody help how to fix it and explain what is exactly wrong.Thanks.
    Regards,
    Karel

  • Problem with DNS resolution

    Hi All,
I am facing a strange problem with the name resolution in mac os x. I have a Lan with a cisco switch and a cisco router that serves as DHCP and DNS server.
In the router I have setup some static host names with the relevant IPs in the local Lan. When ever I try to ping or browse, from within OS X, using the names, I get "unknown host" error. The problem is only with the static hosts I have setup.  The strange part is that nslookup and dig give back the correct IP as it is assigned in the Cisco router.  When I use my iPhone or iPad everything works fine.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Barsam, did you solve this issue?
I have something similar happening to me, I can ping, traceroute, nslookup even use entourage to send and receive emails, but can browse the web with any browser (safari, firefox and chrome)
Last night farefox was working, today I upgrade to the latest firefox version and now firefox stop working saying that can resolve the name, the same error as safari and chrome
I flush the cache, reboot, manually enter DNS, change DNS servers to public ones, but still can't surf the web

  • Problem with Skype and Wireless Networks

I have been having a problem with Airport for about 10 months. Long winded explanation follows.
Initially file transfers over wireless networks were extremely slow but this seems to have been that 10.5.2 update problem. There is a remaining issue when I use Skype on my Mac (details below) connected to a wireless network the incoming and outgoing audio drop out for 1 - 3 seconds at irregular but frequent intervals (approx every 5 - 10 seconds). This is regardless of the wireless network I am on - and that is dozens of them all over the world. Note it is voice only calls, not video. Apple has replaced the Airport card and the mother board; the OS has been reinstalled; test accounts set up but nothing fixes the problem.
At one point I had temporary relief by switching off 'Configure IPv6' in System Preferences/Network/Airport/TCP/IP. This worked for a month or so but now the problem is back as before.
All other aspects of wireless activity are fine. Wireless firmware is 1.4.4.
I have worn out my welcome with the usually sensational help desk. Any suggestions out there in Mac Land?

    Hi there
Been a hectic week here getting this problem resolved. It is all OK now. Here is what we found and how it was done.
When Airport was playing up we set up an unlimited ping of the wireless router in the office. This is what it showed:

    and so on.
After discussion with tech support they said the Airpot card had to be replaced. This was done with admirable expediency and I got the MBP back in 36 hours. On testing it the same problem was still there. Identical pattern on the ping test, the fault was not the hardware.
Once more a call to Apple and another tech. This time we booted from the OS 10.5 install disk and ran the ping test. I ran it for a few hours without seeing the fault, it worked fine. The problem had to be in the operating system.
After backing up all the data I zeroed the drive and did a clean install of the OS. Bingo! Problem gone.
So after 10 months, two airport cards and a mother board, the issue was in fact something corrupt deep in the OS.
So to anyone having similar problems with Airport, run a ping test as described above. If you see that kind of pattern, try a clean install before going down the hardware road.

    Hi,
How have you got the ports iChat needs open in your Modem or Router ?
    [INVITE sip:user@rip:16402 SIP/2.0
    Via: SIP/2.0/UDP sip:58922;branch=z9hG4bK4909686401fb4686
    Max-Forwards: 70
    To: "u0" <sip:user@rip:16402>
    From: "0" <sip:user@lip:16401>;tag=1466270130
    Call-ID: 1decd42bc2175e4-cd42-11de-91e3-cabd2c1e4011@lip
    CSeq: 1 INVITE
    Contact: <sip:user@sip:58922>;isfocus
    User-Agent: Viceroy 1.4
    Content-Type: application/sdp
    Content-Length: 701
This is supposed to have port 16402 listed at all points.
The SIP port at you end has already moved.
Later attempts show the Buddy moving port as well.
    a=rtpID:2795763882
    7073.595276 @/SourceCache/VideoConference/VideoConference-413.1/SIP/Transport.c:2138
At th point where the Square brackets show you are supposed to list A PING
This is most likely not showing as the ports and SIP invite are not resolved.
The bits below "Binary Images for iChat" tell us nothing.
