Problems saving resources in Web Inspector
Often I want to save images from web inspector. But I'm having a couple of problems.
1. "Open Image in New Window" does nothing.
2. "Download Image" saves the image, but names it Unkown and without a file extension.
Has anyone been able to get either of these features working?

Yes, I did search before but restricted it to the past month, because I had the feeling that it’s worse now since the update to 5.1.10, but I may be wrong.

“Top Sites” is hot, but I’ve never used that funny dots without any mouse-over text.
After deleting (before starting Safari) it’s restored by a default TopSites.plist, it seems these cookies
- are only reloaded when viewing the Top Sites (?)
- are not among my reappearing cookies, I have never seen such a cookie / cache on my system before (e.g. expedia, orbitz, monster, usatoday, disney, craigslist).
And Top Sites would not explain why the Web Inspector has different infos regarding use of cookies and local storage than Safari’s “Privacy” tab.
After playing with deleting TopSites.plist, without surfing, suddenly I have ”121 cookies or other data” at Safari’s Privacy tab, nearly all are listed as “Cache” or “Cache, Cookies” but the Web Inspector doesn’t show any of them, only my google.co.uk items.

screenshotI am using jQuery and calling my javascript using $(document).ready(). When, on the same page, I call my JS using window.onload, the errors show up like I would expect. I hope I have got something else wrong, because this would seem to discourage writing unobtrusive javascript.

Problems with PSE 10 when saving for the web.
I'm having problems saving for web with PSE 10. I edit in RAW, edit in PSE 10, save as Jpeg, resize and save for the web. Results are muddled and not sharp (looks cartoonish). Also, there is no metadata when you look at the image properties. I uninstalled the program and installed again. No change.
Are you resizing the photo before save for web?
What settings are you using in the save for web dialog for the jpeg quality?
If you compress the jpeg too much (low quality settings below 60), that can make your photos look bad.
And save for the web in pse 10 automatically strips any metadata in order to keep the file sizes smaller.
Also, the save for web in pse 10 has a bad habit of not remembering your last used settings, so it's good to verify that your actually set to jpeg instead of the default GIF setting.

I have problems saving pdf files in the web when I use Safari. I don't have this problem with firefox.
do they save ok if Safari - Preferences - Security - Allow all other plug-ins is unchecked ?
If so, likely an adobe or other pdf plugin
Re-check the setting above & quit any browsers,
Look in this folder by triple-clicking the line below, then ctrl-clicking it & choosing Services - Open
/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/
remove anything with pdf in the filename & test again

Hello,
When I open Web Inspector using the menu Develop >> Show Web Inspector, the window open with a problem.
To display correctly, click the "dock to main window" in the status bar, then click again on the same icon to separate from Safari. I think it's a bug, but if exist a temporary solution...

Web inspector opens blank weather or not it is docked to the window. The toggle docking button fixes the issue.
Clean install of MacOS X Lion 10.7.2 with only Xcode, MacVim, and Photoshop on it. I was hoping this issue would have been fixed by now. It's been broken ever since Safari 5. It's very irritating to continuously have to toggle the docking in order to view the web inspector. Any word on a fix? -
Sticking Safari cookies but they are not there in Web Inspector
Hi,
Now I’ve got the Safari 5.1.10 update (OS X 10.6.8) and still have the same problem as with several versions before, I think it’s even worse now:
When surfing I’m used to “Safari / Reset Safari…” (with all options set to delete but website icons) to start from scratch from time to time.
This will delete cookies and local cache, too, although it’s not clearly mentioned (?).
My start page is google.co.uk and checking with the “Privacy” tab I usually see three items from Google.
I think that would be OK.
But:
a) Sometimes there are still cookies / cache from sites that I have visited before,
and
b) Sometimes even after Privacy / “Remove All”
(Cookies.plist is empty and Safari/LocalStorage folder is deleted now)
and another Safari “Reset” some will return (e.g wikipedia.org, Local Storage, but also cookies from news or amazon or local storage use by apple.com).
When I check using the Web Inspector / Resources there are no such elements to find, only from Google - but the “Preferences / Privacy” tab seems to know about them and they are back in Cookies.plist and Safari / LocalStorage ???
c) Sometimes (I know, that’s bad), even when I reset + close Safari, open an other application, start Safari again - bang, several items (often more than before) are listed there but only Google is to be seen in the Web Inspector (screenshot 1).
d) After closing the Web Inspector and “Remove All” I start the Web Inspector again, just to see e.g. a “cookie folder” from Google but it’s stating “This site has no cookies” (screenshot 2), and there are none in Safari. How would the Web Inspector know about google cookies (or local storage), only to show an empty “folder”?
I really love Safari, I’d simply like to “flush” it from time to time when surfing.
1) Is it my misunderstanding of Safari cookies / cache? Or the Web Inspector’s display?
2) Why only “sometimes” (this point is most annoying)?
3) How could I dig deeper (but I’m not a techie ! ), or
4) Is this a known bug since years (Safari and / or Web Inspector), I didn’t find a similar topic here in the forums?

Safari 6: WebKit Web Inspector Annihilated
Anyone have this problem and, hopefully, solved it?
When I use the WebKit Web Inspector, it doesn't show anything but what you see on the screenshot below. If you look closely, the top bar of the inspector that should show selections such as: ELEMENTS, RESOURCES, NETWORK, etc... doesn't show any of that, instead it clips part of the website and keeps that clip static. As you can see in the image, parts of the screen on the Macbook Pro graphic has been sliced and kept statically at the bottom, it never moves or disappears.
On top of that, nothing ever loads in the inspector except the options at the bottom which also does nothing. I can't even pop the inspector out of the window, clicking on that option does nothing.
I can't use the new inspector as that also has issues. On the old inspector, the NETWORK option was useful for troubleshooting AJAX web applications; on the new one, data returned from an XMLhttprequest no longer shows in it's own section, instead it's just bundled with other random bits of data that has loaded previously and it it doesn't seperate them out by the order in which requests came in, instead it tries to put them in alpha order which is a bad thing, because there is no way of telling what request came in and when.
I kept the old copy of Safari incase S6 would break something, and it did, but when I try to run Safari 5, it just crashes. I want to downgrade Safari back to the previous version, but I haven't a clue how.
I had to switch to Chrome to continue with web development, but I would like to work in Safari. Any ideas?
Reinstalling the entire OS for this one issue is not an option and never should be.@CodeLickerI already addressed the new Inspector which I said is also an issue. There's a whole paragraph for it even.
@rynkydynkyThanks, but I ended up switching to Chrome and I am actually liking it better than Safari, plus it has a working Web Inspector and tabs that don't stretch into infinity on a 27" iMac. -
Having a problem saving the graphics on a canvas.
I'm having a problem saving graphics on a canvas. It draws on the canvas but when another window comes up the graphics disappear. I put in a method to take the graphics on the canvas and repaint it with the graphics. But this comes up blank. So I don't know why this is happening. It is probably the paint method but I don't know why. If anyone has any ideas could you please respond because I have had this problem for ages now and it's driving me mad and I have to get this finished or I'm going to be a lot of trouble. I'll show you the code for the class I am concerned with. It is long but most of it can be disregarded. The only parts which are relevent are the paint method and where the drawline e.t.c are called which is in the mouse release

Developer: web inspector how do I add new css rules
I have been using web inspector for quite some time. It was a regular part of my development workflow, however, I was surprised when the safari team totally re-vamped the tool in safari 6.
You use to be able to click on the menu in the styling section of the tool bar and click "Add new rule". Now it appears you can no longer add css rules in this way. Which is a bummer because I used this feature all the time.
You also, use to be able to double click for a new rule when in the actual stylesheet under the Resources tab. I can no longer do this either. For the life of me, I can't figure out why the safari team would get rid of these valuable options.
Someone please help.
These options must still exist, as they are invaluable when working with css in the browser. Does anyone know how to add a new style rule. I read the documentation and I don't see anything about removing this functionality.
The only way I can find to add a new rule, is through the snippet bar, which is kind of a pain as you have to add the <style> tags every time you add a new rule.
Also, I can't figure out how to view and elements pseudo classes (i.e. :hover , :checked, etc).
I have to say, it is a little frustrating as I don't clearly see the benefits of their redesign and it just seems harder to use. It kind of feels like they reskinned and rearranged things just to make it look new and didn't really think through how developers use this tool.
Does anyone else feel this way with the new safari?
Maybe I will see the light after a couple of days. I hope so because I am partial to using safari.Build your FGLayout prototype page so it works well in all screen sizes (mobile first, then tablet, finally desktop). To create your home page, SaveAs index.html. Then SaveAs page2.html, replace content. Repeat for other site pages.

Disappearing color profile when saved for the Web
Hello.
I have a problem with the “Save for the Web” results using Photoshop CS6 running on Win 7 x64.
My photos are already in 8 bits and in sRGB and when I save for the Web I check the option “embed color profile”, uncheck “convert to sRGB”, metadata to “copyright and contact info”.
When I open the resulting photos in Photoshop, everything is fine as it recognizes the embedded color profile. Same thing when I open these files in Firefox, Safari or Chrome: the colors are correct.
Now, when I right-click on a file in the Win Explorer and look its properties, the line about the color profile is blank, as if there wasn't any. This doesn't bother me but the problem appears on my Website created with Joomla and using for the display a module, Responsive Image Gallery, which creates resized copies of the photos. At this point the copies have completely lost their color profile. I entered in contact with the module's support and they assured me that it preserves the embedded profile, so I come here to gather some information about how this “Save for the Web” embeds the color profile because may be I just didn't understand how it does and if it's different from the “Save as” way.
The fact I can't see the profile through the Win Explorer makes me think Joomla's module doesn't either.Incredible how much gballard's site is famous! Lol. I use it for a while now and checked again right now with the three Web browsers and everything is all right.
As indicated in my first post, when saving for the Web I checked the “embed color profile” option. I already resized the file and converted it in sRGB first in Photoshop.
Yes it's pretty confusing to see some software not able to see the color profile when the file is saved with that option.
To illustrate, here are three screenshots from Windows' file browser => right-ckick on the file => properties => details:
Opening that “saved for the Web” file in PS, it's ok, the CP is recognized.
Opening it directly (from the file browser => “open with”) in Web browsers: ok in Firefox, Safari and Chrome (CP recognized in all).
Copying that file in my working site on localhost (no modification), integer it in Joomla's module gallery (which is CP aware) and then opening my site on localhost with Web browsers: ok in Firefox (because it considers a non-tagged file by default as beeing sRGB), NOT OK in Safari neither in Chrome.
Now, if I do the same with the “Save as” version of the file with embedded sRGB CP:
PS: ok
Opened directly in Web browsers: ok in the three cases
Opened in Web browsers through my Joomla site on localhost: OK IN ALL THREE BROWSERS

Setting up JNDI resources in web.xml only

I'm using Tomca 4.0 LE and JDK 1.4.0_01.
I've been using a database connection pool on my local machine by editing the server.xml file and web.xml. However, I need to move the webapp onto a web hosting compaines server (same tomcat and jdk version). I cannot edit the server.xml file, so I need to set up my JNDI resource in web.xml only.

Also, this code is from a servlet that I have loading on tomcat startup. Will this still work with the new configuration?

Facing problem in transportation of web Interface
Hi BPS Experts,
I am facing problem in transporting the web interface.
As part of one enhancement I have made some changes to one of the objects in web Interface in Integration system. Before doing transportation to consolidation, generated the new BSP application as well as saved the customized changes under one request for transport.
Used the request number for Transporting to consolidation. The Layout in the consolidation is displaying error message as follows
*Error with initialization or error on BSP*
Component with name Group_Selection1 does not exist
BSP application ZEBSP08_RF does not exist. Regenerate
and when i check the web interface under BPS_WB transaction in consolidation. i able to see the change in objects which i made in integration.
Please help in solving this problem in Layout.

Create the same function group and send it into test system with another TR.
Once it get transported to test system, try to activate FM & FG.

After I start the tomcat server I can go to the login page, however when I enter the username and password and press enter..

ManishaPlease read the Servlet specification for details on how to specify url-patterns (see section 11.2). Your "index.*" is not a legal pattern. You can only end in "/*" or "*.foo". See Servlet spec.
If after fixing that you have more questions, please include the actual sequence of requests (and responses), preferably from a network snoop. -
Hang while web inspector active
While developing website content, I like to have the web inspector active for debugging purposes. If it is active and I refresh the current webpage Safari appears to hang until I remove the web inspector, then the page loads normally.
This behaviour is mildly annoying. I wonder if this is a bug or if there is some undiagnosed problem with my web pages. Anyone else have this problem?You might consider posting in Apple's Developer Forums if you don't get much activity on this issue here.

Inspecting element on Safari 7 does not show Web Inspector
When I run "Inspect Element" on Safari 7, nothing happens. I don't see the Web Inspector and the page appears to lag a little bit. I am running Mavericks 10.9.2 and Safari 7.0.3.
Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.
