Problems setting up e-print on Photosmart 6510

When I purchased the Photosmart  6510 yesterday and set it up as per instructions together with log in and password the printer automatically printed a page headed  'HP preprint mobile printing' Get Started and showed a Printer Code. When I then received an e-mail from HP with instructions to set up the e-print it would not let me enter the site because the password / username was 'incorrect' (which it wasn't). I then tried to log into a new account but this would not let me use the Printer code that the printer had printed.
I am very frustrated at this and would not have purchased this product had I known how much hassle it causes. Will not be buying another HP product .
However, now struck with this one - has anyone got any ideas how I can sort this. I have seen lots of posts on the net from customers with similar problems.
Yours -

Hi,
You did not change the printer, only change the router and SSID. I ran few tests to change routers and SSID's and NO NEED to change anything from the ePrint setup. You don't need new claim code, logon to your HP Connected account, your printer is still there UNLESS you removed it.
Regards.

    Best regards,

It sounds like the router's DHCP may be changing the IP address too frequently for the printer software to keep up with it.
I recommend setting a static IP address as it resolves many network issues with printers in general.

    Hi friend,
it's a really really strange tip... May be it's a Forms bug? I've tried with set_item_property..and.. you're right, it doesn't work..
So.. you can try making this:
    - create a visual attribute with an specific font size....
    - use the
    SET_ITEM_INSTANCE_PROPERTY('block.item',CURRENT_RECORD,VISUAL_ATTRIBUTE,'you_visual_attribute');
    and call it from psot-change....
    It works
    Hope it helps,
    Jose.

  • Problems setting up wireless printing

I can set up to print from my laptop with a USB connection to the printer. I want to be able to print when away from my desk, so have tried for 2 years, on and off, to get my printer to print wirelessly. I've probably spent 10+ hours trying to get this set up. In the end, I always end up having to reinstall the printer with the same old USB connection.
This is driving me crazy. I'm a tech writer for a software company and am very computer savvy. Yet my non-techie family members have all managed to set up wireless printing at their homes in 5 minutes or less with different brands of printers.
Here are the steps I'm following, though I have also tried numerous variations, such as trying it with my USB cable connected vs. disconnected.
    1) Uninstall current (USB) printer installation.
    2) On the printer itself, verify that Settings > Network Settings are at the defaults.
    3) Using most recent drivers and installation .exe from the HP website, start a new printer installation.
    4) When prompted, select "wireless installation."
RESULT: Even though my firewall is OFF, it searches and says there are no printers on the network. (Huh? What network?)
    5) Try again, and this time select "network installation."
RESULT: Even though my firewall is OFF, it searches and says it can't detect a network.
If wireless installation requires a network, but network installation does not cause a network to be installed, I'm not sure where to go from here.
    6) I've also tried downloading and installing the ePrint utility, but when I get midway through the installation, it tells me it can't find my printer.
I'm suspicious that my model M1212nf MFP may not even allow wireless printing. Some info on the HP website says to check that a particular button lights up to show the printer is online. This light doesn't exist on my printer model. On the other hand, my physical printer's settings has settings like: "display IP address," etc., that would lead me to believe that it can operate wirelessly.
I have read all of the related HP printer help, and there is nothing that explains in simple language what types of cables I need to set up a network and/or wireless connection, when to plug them in, which installations to perform out of the many add-ons available, etc. I am sure this is a 5 minute process if there was just some good explanation in the UP help of how to do it. Assistance would be appreciated!

    Hello @SKYdiz,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that you have had issues for the last 2 or so years and spent multiple hours attempting to configure your HP LaserJet Pro M1212nf Multifunction Printer for wireless printing. At this point I'm going to offer some additional information on this matter. First, are you sitting down?
Unfortunately, the HP LaserJet Pro M1212nf Multifunction Printer is NOT a wireless model printer. The 'nf' at the end of the printer name stands for 'network, fax'. Therefore, while your printer is not wirelessly capable of connecting to your router, it CAN connect with an ethernet cable.
All you need to do is connect an ethernet cable from the rear of your printer into your router. Than any devices connected to that same router (either through wireless or wired ethernet connections) would be able to 'see' your printer on the network and print to your printer. For more information regarding the ethernet setup on your printer, please refer to: Setting Up the Printer for a Wired Network in Windows 7 for the HP LaserJet Printers.
Now if an ethernet connection does not work in your specific network configuration, than HP does manufacture other Laserjet models that do use the wireless feature. Here are two Laserjets that are black only, multifunction wireless units that are similar to your current model printer : HP LaserJet Pro MFP M127fw and HP LaserJet Pro MFP M225dw.
Please let me know if this clears up any confusion. Should you have any other questions or concerns I will be more than happy to assist you. Happy New Year!

I have an HP Deskjet 3050A J611n I can get it to print via USB but wifi is problematic I have had it working a couple of time but wehen I try to reuse it at a later time printer can not be found I am creating my wifi through ethernet to my Time Capsule . I have removed and inserted the printer several times through system prefs the original settings that worked are on my iMac which is currenty been repaired (Graphics issues); so I am using a white macbook I have managed to print off on wifi once I think with this plus do I need to be connected to the HP set up on the wifi all the time to print since this then means I am not connected wirelessly to my normal network? I have been confused by the whole issue is there an easy way to set this up? What information do I need to give it to make it work including airprint? I am so tempted to just run it through the USB port on the time capsule but this is not really how it should function been a wifi printer ! I assume it needs no usb connection to be wirless .
Does anyone have experience with this printer & Mavericks I have my MAC Hardware address my IP Address .I do not know what the network name SSID is or is that simple the name of my network that Time capsule is running?
I have printed off the Printer status report , Wirless Network Test Results what am I missing .
I have tried to seek out the problem in airport utility but I dont think this is it .I have tried adding printers multiple time throus system prefs & HP utility I am chasing my tail here.

  • Problem setting up shared printer between PC and Mac with 10.6

I am trying to setup a shared printer between my Mac and PC. I have a HP K80 attached to my PC (which has Vista Home Premium). I have a Macbook pro with 10.6. I have shared the printer on the PC side. From the Mac I have added the printer via Windows Printer sharing, but for some reason I cannot print to the printer. Everytime I try to print, the job just pauses. Is there something I am doing wrong?

Thanks I installed the gutenprint drivers and tried this, and now all working:
    http://guides.macrumors.com/Printingto_a_Shared_PCPrinter
Printing to a Shared PC Printer
This article describes how to print from Mac OS X to a shared printer connected to a Windows XP machine. It assumes the computers are already networked and that you can access the PC's files. These instructions are relevant for Mac OS X 10.2 upwards. The instructions may work with Vista. I don't have the means to try it.
    1. Find the IP address of your PC - go on Start > Run. Type in cmd and click run. Now type in ipconfig /all and hit enter. This should give you the machine's IP address.
    2. Share the printer. Open up Printers and find the one you want to share. Right-click and choose Share. Now click the 'Share this printer' radio button. Now choose a sharing name. Keep it simple - e.g. HP, Office, PC etc.
    3. Open a web browser on your Mac and type localhost:631 in the address bar
    4. You should now have the Common UNIX Printing System web interface up. Click the 'Add Printer' link.
    5. Type a name for the printer, making sure you don't include /, # or space characters. Click continue.
    6. Select Windows Printer via SAMBA from the Device list and click continue.
    7. For the URI, you need to include a username and password for an account on your PC. You then need to enter a URI in the following format: smb://username:password@ipaddress/printer. So for example smb://johndoe:[email protected]/HP
    8. Choose your printer's make, or if you have a PPD file for the printer, choose that. Click continue and choose your printer's model. Now click Add Printer.
    9. Done! You now have a list of options for changing the various properties of the printer.
You don't need to be on the same workgroup or domain as your PC, just the same subnet. If both your Mac and PC are connected to the same router, either wired or wirelessly, then you should be on the same subnet.
    Thanks guys

  • Windows 8; Photosmart 6510; always offline

    OS: Windows 8
    Printer: HP Photosmart 6510 series

I'm having a real problem. My laptop (Pavillion) will NOT wirelessly connect to the printer.
The printer is connected to the Wireless dongle, but the laptop will not see the printer, it is permanently offline.
The only way I can connect to the printer is to hardwire connect it.
I've looked at the replies to other similar posts, and nothing seems to be relevant.
I've looked at all the available menus and there is nothing that allows me to force a connection.
I've tried turning the printer on before and after the laptop is booted/logged in.
I've also have the same problem when waking from sleep/hibernate if that is different.

BTW, the printer properties says " Root Print Queue"

  • Photosmart 6510 scanner broken?

My scanner is having the same issue.  I would love to know the steps to reset it!  Thank you.

    Hey @BearLakeNate ,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I see you're having problems with the scanner on your PhotoSmart 6510.
Can you tell me a little more about what is happening? Are you getting any kind of errors, is there physical damage to the glass or plastic, does the scan output look poor (streak, blurry, all black, blank, etc...)?
A good test to see if the issue is hardware related is by performing a copy. Place an item in the feeder or on the glass and press the Copy button on the screen. Black or Colour is fine, unless the issue only occurs on one or the other.
If you are dealing with a scan or copy quality issue please follow the steps in this guide: Vertical Bands, Lines, or Streaks in Copies or Scans.
If the copy comes out OK we can safely say the hardware is fine, and you're looking at a communication or software issue.
If a copy fails, reset the printer. Remove the power cord from the back of the product while it is still on. Wait at least 30 seconds and reconnect the power cord. It should turn itself back on. Test the copy function again after the reset.
If after a reset you still cannot copy ensure the printer is plugged directly into a wall outlet. Sometimes the printer does not get enough power when connected to a power bar, surge protector, or UPS, and will always work best when connected directly to a wall outlet.
If you have attempted all of these steps and are still unable to produce a copy update the printer firmware. You must have a USB connection to do this. You can download the firmware update utility for your printer here: HP Photosmart 6510 e-All-in-One Printer - B211a Drivers.
If you can perform a copy fine, let me know which operating system you are using and we will go from there. To see which version of Windows you are using click here: Which Windows operating system am I running?

  • Unable to communicate with printer; ad hoc problem: Photosmart 6510

I'm running windows 7 pro and I recently installed the aforementioned printer. Please help. 'HP-setup-73 Photosmart 6510,' the name of the printer, is recognized and able to be connected to in my network wireless connections. Firewalls have been disabled and Installation and network config is already set - at least to my knowledge. But when trying to print something, an error window pops up saying: "Unable to communicate with printer...If you installed this printer by IP address, please update the IP address..." That error message could be irrelavant; Perhaps it's a setting adjustment on the printer side. I don't know, that's why I'm asking.   what should I do to fix this problem?

Print a Wireless Network Test from the front of the printer (probably the Network or Wireless menu).  Does it indicate that your printer is connected to your network?
If so, go to Start > All Programs > Hewlett-Packard > [your printer model] > Update IP address.
If you want a more permanent solution after doing this (so you will not have to do it again), set a static IP address for the printer:
    - Print a Network Config Page from the front of the printer. Note the printer's IP address.
    - Type that IP address into a browser to reveal the printer's internal settings.
    - Choose the Networking tab, then Wireless along the left side, then the IPv4 tab.
    - On this screen you want to set a Manual IP. You need to set an IP address outside the range that the router automatically sets (called the DHCP range). If you do not know the range, change the last set of numbers (those after the last '.') to 250
    - Use 255.255.255.0 for the subnet (unless you know it is different, if so, use that)
    - Enter your router's IP (on the Network Config Page) for the gateway.
    - Enter 8.8.8.8 for the first DNS and 8.8.4.4 for the second DNS.
    - Click 'Apply'.
Now, shut down the router and printer, start the router, wait, then start the printer.
After this you may need to redo 'Add a Printer' using the new IP address.

  • Two-sided printing problem with a Photosmart 6510

I have a new Photosmart 6510 and it is supposed to come with automatic two-sided printing.
I have tried printing two-sided and followed the advice of many previous thread but it has not worked.
I am using a Mac OS X version 10.5.8 and Microsoft Word 2008.
When I go to the drop-down menu in the Print window and go to 'two-sided printing' the option to print both sides is greyed out, and it says that the paper type and size settings do not support two-sided printing. What size paper should I select and where can I do this?
    Any help would be great.
    Thank-you
    This question was solved.

    Hi,
    Please try the following settings:
1.From the application used to print, click the File menu, then select Print. The Print window appears.
NOTE: The Print window might be minimized. Click the blue triangle next to the printer name to see all available settings.
    2. To select the binding type click the lowest selection box listed as Copies & Pages.
    3. Select Layout from the drop-down menu.
    4. Set the Two-Sided option as Long-Edge binding.
If I'm not wrong, the duplexer support only A4 and Letter sizes
You may save the settings for future use by clicking Presets > Save Current Settings as Preset...
Please let me know if you were able to successfully perform two-sided printing.

  • Dell Dimension desktop sometimes won't communicate with my HP Photosmart 6510 wireless printer

At random times, when trying to print from Dell Dimension desktop to HP Photosmart 6510 wireless printer, I get a message that the computer can't communicate with the printer.  The printer shows that it is connected to the Internet. I haven't changed any settings.   Each time this happens, I unplug the printer and router, but it doesn't fix the problem.  After about 20 minutes or so, it prints normally.  It always happens at the most inopportune times.  Any suggestions about how I can keep this from recurring?

These settings are for setting up your wireless printer to stay connected to your router, keeps wireless devices better connected and makes your router secure and hack proof.
    1. Set a static IP in the printer (see step 6) outside the DHCP range of the router (check your manual).
    2. Verify in the printer that 'Auto Off' is disabled.  Use the Embedded Web Server (EWS) by going to the
printers IP address in your browsers address bar, click  Settings Tab/Auto Off.  Or use the Printer
        Assistant, Printer Home Page (EWS).
In the router:  (Refer to your router manual for information)
    3. Use a fixed wireless channel like 1,6 or 11, never 'auto', try channel 1 first then the rest.
    4. Set router to 20Mhz only, or 145Mbps depending on router.
    5. Always use WPA2-AES (Personal) encryption, but you can try ‘mixed’ mode.
    6. Disable WPS and never use it and disable UPnP for the routers security.  Nobody can hack your
system now and helps with wireless connectivity (if you want to know why, search the web).
    7. If you have a dual band router (2.4Ghz and 5.0Ghz bands), make sure the SSID’s are NOT the same,
they must be different for all bands, even for any Guest networks.
    8. Save all settings.  Power off both, wait 5 mins.  Power on router wait 3 mins.
    9. Power on printer and verify it reconnects to router.
Windows 7/8/8.1   Is Network Discovery on or off?
Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network and Sharing Center\Advanced sharing settings.
Under Home or Work (current profile) \ Network Discovery.
Select "Turn on network discovery" and save changes.

  • Photosmart 6510 Printer error/Blue screen on printer display Code:B864F472

    Hello
I'm having a reoccurring problem with my HP Photosmart 6510 all-in-one. The printer will stay on for about five minutes, give or take, and proceed to flash a blue screen (on printer display) with error code B864F472
Next the screen displays a "Printer Error" message followed by "Please turn printer off and then on" with all lights on the printer flashing.
It will display this until I cycle the power and it repeats the same behavior after about five minutes.
I've searched extensively for a solution and have tried multiple things. Such as:
-Unplugging from back of printer and wall, 30 sec wait then plug back in.
-Clean cartridge and print header contacts.
    -Set static IP.
-Printed various reports from service mode, No errors, Excellent signal strength.
    -Connected to laptop through USB.
    -Partial reset, Semi-Full reset.
    -Reinstalled drivers on all computers.
    -Updated firmware/software on printer itself.
-Ran HP Print and Scan Doctor.
    -Reset Router
I'm at a loss now. The unit is just over a year old. I have two laptops and a desktop on the same network. Two computers running Windows 8.1 64-bit and the other Windows 7 64-bit.
Any help will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
