Problems with Localhost, I think

I recently bought a new Macbook. After purchasing, I immediately swapped out the harddrive with a larger, blank harddrive. I started the Macbook with the new, blank harddrive from the startup disk. I then transferred all my files, etc., from a TimeMachine backup on an external drive, a fact that might be important for my problem because the transferred TimeMachine backup of your system is not a clone of the system.
Since doing this I have noticed two problems, both of which seem to be related to problems connecting to localhost, perhaps because the host name of my computer has changed and is no longer recognized.
The first regards printing over a network. After setting up my new Macbook, I had to manually add the network printers via the Printers & Fax pane that I printed from on my old Macbook. After doing so, however, I cannot connect to the printers. The printer utility window lists that it is attempting to connect, but then eventually fails to do so. In the Print and Fax preference pane, under the Options button, the printers' Host Name is localhost.
The second involves an iChat account I set up to be able to talk with MSN, Yahoo, etc. I no longer remember how I did this, but it somehow involved routing through localhost, because I get the message "could not connect to host localhost" whenever I activate this account.
What is the problem and how do I fix it?
Thanks

Well the TM issue is entirely moot at this point as the HD from my old Macbook has been wiped. I just mentioned TM backup because I suspected transferring files the way I did was the source of the problem. So, I'm not interested in any TM related solutions. Perhaps I should've done things as you suggest, but I didn't, and can't.
You can clone your OS and then start with a fresh install of Leopard and migrate user files/settings from the clone. Clearly, your existing OS may have the wrong drivers and other hardware-related software installed.
At the very least, a clone and fresh install will determine if the problems you have are related to the TM install or not.

  • I can not get my i-tunes to play correctly, problem with library I think.

I have had this problem for a really long time and I don't know how to fix it. I can open my i-tunes but when I click to play a song it freezes up and says "i-tunes1 not responding." the only way I can get i-tunes to work is to go into programs and repair it.
I think it is a problem with my library, because I have a folder named i-tunes with my songs in it and a folder named i-tunes1 with my i-tunes library and i-tunes media folder in it. There is nothing in my i-tunes media folder. I have tried consolidating my library and stuff but nothing seems to work. Any suggestions?

  • WD ABAP: Problems with localhost netweaver

    Hi,
first of all I'm not very sure of that I'm asking my question in the right group so I would like to apologize for any inconvenience.
I'm working with the sneak preview of the sap netweaver (abap version), I've installed succesfully in a computer and it seems to work properly. Also I'm able to connect to netweaver from others computers, but my problem comes when I try to create a new view from the SE80 transaction.
I obtain a 404 error in the object view section, and it's normal because if we look at the address we could see that it refers to localhost instead the real address of the server. The address it's something like this:
    http://localhost:8000/sap/bc/wdvd?_vdrespkey=8YI47X9OAEK2GJY1KDN5VHAXI&_vdframe=no_add_ui_lib&sap-client=000
How can I change localhost for the real IP of my server??
    best regards
    javi

This is a problem I also had,
What I did was as follows.
Change the domain of the computer
    1) Right click on my Computer and select proprties
    2) Click computer name
    3) Click change
    4) Click more
    5) Specify a made up domain "javier.com" for example
Add this domain to your hosts file.  This will allow your web browser to understand request from the javier.com domain.
    1) Find file "hosts" in c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc
    2) add line 127.0.0.1 <computerName>.javier.com
Update the SAP instance profile so that the icm uses the new domain.
    1) Start SAP
    2) Go to transaction RZ10.
    3) Load the profiles off the server (if you haven't done so before).
    4) Modify the instance profile in "extended maintenance" mode.
    5) Change parameter "icm/host_name_full" from <computer name> to <computer name>.javier.com.
    6) Copy the changes back and save.
    7) Stop and restart SAP.
    8) Go into transaction SMICM and check the HTTP service is running.
    9) Test a webdynpro.
Hope this is clear enough for you and it helps.

  • MacBook Pro Problem with screws I think

So I recently saw my MacBook Pro casing lifting up and when I lifted up to look inside I saw the screw is attached to nothing. So I went on google and looked up the shell and there should be a slot where the screw on the left hand side screws into. I'm taking my Mac into a Apple Authorized Reseller to put a 500GB HDD and might ask them to fix it. Will they charge me as they charged me bloody 800 Bucks to replace a monitor and getting the hard drive done will cost around €260. So do you think they will fix it for free? Here are some pictures. Also I have Apple Care

Hope Apple gets it sorted out for you. Having computer problems (sort of like having car problems on a long road trip) is not much fun and very frustrating.
Thanks for leaving feedback in Apple Discussions by marking the "solved" post.

    Hello.
I have bought a new computer a week ago.
First time i started the computer, two of the light diodes on the ram slot 3 and 4 was red. And have been ever since.
The bios was on default, and the computer freezez now and then, maybe every hour or something. I tried to take out the 3 and 4 memory module and set the memory volt on 1.9. And everything worked very fine.
So i tought maybe i should innstall the other two again. And now the computer is just unstable, artifacts in games, suddenly's restart's m.m.
i know its something about "spd" ,but that its way over my league.
So my questions, what is the right numbers to fill inn. ? and is it because of the memroy i have this problems?
Appriciate all the help, and sorry for bad english.
    is this good enough?

I think you are going to need to go into the bios and manually set the memory voltage and the memory settings.
Try setting the memory voltage in the bios to 1.9 and then manually set the memory settings to 7-7-7-20 and see if that works.  If not; then change the memory settings 8-8-8-21 and see if that helps.  You might also need to up the northbridge voltage a notch or two since you are running memory in all four slots.

  • Problem with clocking (I think it is a hardware problem)

I have an HP Pavilion dv5 1199ee, and using Win 7-64 bit. due to an accident the notebook was forced to be open widely (180 degrees). Since that incident, the clocking system is having problem retaining the right time, and the time displayed doesn't seem to progress normally. I thing the shock that forced the laptop to be open widely has damaged something. Can you help me?

    Hi,
You can set the clock on your machine to use Internet time. From Control panel, Select Date & Time then change the clock to use Internet clock.
    Regards.

  • TS5223 Hi I need help I can not sign into my phone I have an Apple Id and reset my password I updated it today. Having problems with icloud I think not sure

I need to use my phone and wish I did not update my phone I have not been able to use it all day How can I reset it so I can use it again It says to sign in with apple id that was used to set up this i phone. I have tried every passcode and ID that I have ever used

Are you sure it's your ID?  Activation lock will require the ID and password that was originally used to activate the phone in order to reactivate.  If the phone had a previous owner, it's their ID and password that is required, not yours.

  • Weird problems with XFCE

So I got a weird problem with XFCE (I think) sometimes everything just stops working, my PPTP vpn, can't start new applications, no shortcut commands on my keyboard works etc. For example when this happened and I tried to open a text document with gedit i got "Process /usr/bin/Thunar exited with status 1" and when I'm connected to my vpn I can't access the internet, not browsing and I can't ping other websites. And in my terminal instead of "icamaxi@localhost" it becomes "[email protected]
This problem happens randomly and it works if you restart the computer.
    my xinitrc looks like:
    #!/bin/sh
    if [ -d /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d ]; then
    for f in /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d/*; do
    [ -x "$f" ] && . "$f"
    done
    unset f
    fi
    exec startxfce4
I also get this error message sometimes if that helps you
    "(process:1055): Gtk-WARNING **: Locale not supported by C library.
    Using the fallback 'C' locale.
    No protocol specified"
    Xorg log
Another thing that is not related to this problem but that is annoying is that i can't lock my screen, when I try nothing happens, I've tried the shortcut command and also with the actions button applet but none of this work.

I'm not certain about your first issue, but does it ever occur when you aren't connected ot your VPN?
For the screen locking problem, what are you using to lock your screen? I use xflock4, and have a keyboard command set up in the keyboard commands to lock my screen.

  • Satellite C855D-S5302 problem with win8

I recently bought new Satellite C855D-S5302 after retiring my 12 year old Satellite after excellent service. BUT this new one comes with Windows 8 installed and that is just not cutting it for me.
Often when moving the cursor to the left, the charms screen pops up and the cursor goes nowhere until I click elsewhere. It has frozen several times so I had to restart by holding the power button down, and it doesn´t work as well with my Motorola Razr smartphone as the old XP did. I believe MS are trying to copy the Android OS but they do it terribly. Anyway, I have been searching for a way to downgrade my NEW computer to Windows 7 or something else, but haven´t found a way to do that. And according to Toshiba homepage, this model hasn´t been qualified to run Win8. So what should I do? Return the computer to the supplier? And tell everyone not to buy Toshiba? I´d rather not but I am running out of options.
Is there an Operating system available from Android for this computer?
    Please help me.
    Oskar

Windows 8 freeze and has software compatibility issues..... on c855d family machines. I have two of them both freeze lock up bought them at Walmart... Downgraded to Windows 7 pro had 5 devices having problems but after Microsoft update ran three long running updates some of them self resolved except for two of them SM bus controller and USB controller... To my confusion the driver seem to have loaded under device manager or installed default or generic drive for that device..... What need is drivers for those devices...Please help
PS.. I AM not impressed with Windows 8 and dont like it hope window 9 is better

I bought same model end of Nov. You only have 14 days to return a Toshiba laptop for an exchange; after that, you have to send to them for repair. The hard drive died on mine after 4 weeks and it is now in Nashville for repair; not costing anything but is a pain. At least I have a win7 Toshiba as backup. I had no problems with the system--think win8 is fine; just takes getting used to.

    Hy Again!
I forgot to say one more thing that could be relevant:
If i add any action from the struts-config.xml in the provider for the <defaultAction> of the portlet it works correctly.
So the actions work correctly, the problem is that when sending back to the oracle portal the request with the new action, there is no response.
    Pls help!
    Thanx, and best regards!

  • Problem with MTRR - X doesn't start after fresh install

    Hi all!
I have a big problem with MTRR, i think...
My PC Specs: P4 3GHZ with HT "prescot", Asus P4S800D-X, ATI x1650 Pro, 1024MB Ram Dual Channel, etc...
I can't start the X system. When i try to try the new Xorg.conf, the X seems to start but the screen stays blank and sometimes can i go back to TTY and sometimes not...
I've tryed with the following drivers and no luck.
    - Vesa: Blank Screen, sometimes keyboard works and sometimes not.
    - RadeonHD: The same...
    - Radeon (or ati): The same...
At the end of the Xorg.0.log, i see the MTRR problem. the memory from the VGA Card is not detected automatically. The "cat /proc/mtrr" differs from ubuntu 8.04, when the X server works correctly.
Ive been reading a lot in google and others forum and see a lots of tricks related to MTRR (but im not completly sure of that's the problem...) but every trick i try doesn't seems to work.
    I tryed the following tricks:
    - Adding the memory to /proc/mtrr manually = Added correctly but NO LUCK
    - Activate/Deactivate HotPlugging = NO LUCK
    - Adding to my boot line the "nopat" and "enable_mtrr_cleanup = MTRR keeps showing wrong memory (no video memory)
    - After adding correctly the memory to MTRR  try the xorg.conf but blank screen (i dunno if xorg rewrites the mtrr when run)
    - Some others tricks i cant remember...
Also, with the radeonhd, i get this errors in xorg.0.log:
    - rhdAtomgetDDCIndex: GPIO_DDC Index 14 exceeds maximum 5
    - RHDCSStop: Command Submission backen is not active!
    - error setting MTRR ( base... blablabla) Invalid argument (22)
That's not my first install, but i can't make it work. As i readed, it's a kernel problem related to 2.6.29, in 2.6.28 there's no problem but i dont have access to the old kernel.
Can someone help my or i need to wait for a new kernel release to use Arch?
    Bye!

I can't solve your problem, but I can help you work around it by downgrading if nobody else can figure it out.
You can find old packages here at the Arch Rollback Machine project repo someone thankfully keeps running,
    http://arm.nrk.cc/
Just go to 'core' and get the package(s) you need and downgrade. There is also a thread on here somewhere about setting up pacman.conf to point to a specific date with ARM if you don't want to get individual stuff manually, but just doing it individually would probably be easier, as I don't expect the kernel has too many other things you need

  • Boot problems with MSI 945GT Speedster

    Hi
I am experiencing start-up problems with my newly mounted HTPC (Mcubed HFX mini). After pressing the power button the keyboard lights flashes, then the hard drive starts spinning. Then nothing actually is happening. The start-up screen never appears on the monitor (black). In fact I have noticed the opposite, the monitor (using the VGA) seems to receive a signal down instead and shuts off when the power button is pressed (the same phenomenon when starting and shutting off the PC). There are no light's or alarms on this mainboard (that I know). For switching the monitor signal between VGA/DVI/TV out I have tested the keyboards commands, but as I only have the VGA connected I think this also are auto sensing.
I never get to the BIOS start-up. And no, I have not tried to flash or something. Everything is newly mounted.
More information on the same question I posted at this special mcubed forum.
But as this is problem with mainboard I think this is the better forum for this... let's see..

    Mathias
