Program Crashes on Windows 2000 Computer

This post is a little long, but I tried to provide as much information as possible.
Due to increased production volumes we added an additional test station. We have been having problems with a LabVIEW program crashing when I run the program on new test station I just installed. The program works fine on the older station but doesn’t on the new test station. The main difference I see is that the new station runs on Windows 2000 professional and the old station runs on Windows NT 4.0. The other difference is that new computer is faster. The program usually crashes after testing 12 devices (4 devices are tested simultaneously), so after the 3rd time through the test routine the program crashes. We can reload the program and test another 12 devices until the computer crashes again. It appears like program is crashing in the “Write 1 point to digital line.vi” because one of the digital lines is stuck high after it crashes. I have attached the library “Press Key.llb” for reference. The main vi is named “Press Key.vi” which controls the action/duration of digital lines for each test ( 0 through 32).
Hardware/Software overview:
The Test Station consists of Pentium IV computer with four (4) National Instruments PCI MIO16E-1 DAQ cards and 1 PCI – GPIB card that communicates to a power supply.
The program is “written” in LabVIEW version 6.0. The program is built into an executable and runs with LabVIEW runtime engine. The program is rather large (2.5 MB)
The program uses the 4 DAQ boards to simultaneous acquire data from four devices under test. Two of the DAQ boards are also used to control relays that activate air cylinders. The air cylinder presses on specific keys on the devices under test. Once the devices are set, the 4 DAQ boards each take the another set of measurements. This process is repeated (Approximately 30 times) until the devices are complete.
Note: The program typically uses 184 MB of Ram
Computer 1: Old Station (In use for 2-3 years) Working fine
Computer Pentium IV computer
Processor Pentium IV 1 Ghz
RAM 256 MB
Operating System Windows NT version 4.0
NI DAQ Version 6.6
Computer 2: New Station Problems crashing
Computer Pentium IV computer
Processor Pentium IV 3.00 Ghz
RAM 256 MB
Operating System Windows 200 Professional
NI DAQ Version 7.2
Any Help would be appreciated!
Thanks Jayme

Regarding the releasing of memory. Yes the "problem" computer memory starts at 184 MB and climbs to 197 MB right before it crashes. The "good" computer memory starts at 184 MB and stays there. They are both running the same exe file only different OS.
Yes I do use a DLL called LVDAQ.DLL. I this DLL is probably being called when the software crashes
When I generate the exe using LabVIEW application builder (on a Windows NT station) the lvdaq.DLL is created automatically. Is there a setting to define which library is created? or can I get this file from NI?

  • I uninstalled LabVIEW 6.1 from a Windows 2000 computer and now when I run DOS programs I get a pop-up error, "gpib-vdd.dll, An installable Virtual Device Driver failed Dll initialization". How do I correct this?

Occurs when running Edit.com for example. Error has choice to Close application or Ignore. If Ignore is chosen, application appears to run normally. Running repair of Windows 2000 does not correct the problem.

I'm glad you found it. Don't worry about the post. It's always good to check the KBs first, but we can't help it if we miss one sometime! The forum is definitely helpful though so don't feel hesitant to use it in the future. Good luck with the programming!

  • Running a LabWindows/CVI application created and built in Windows XP Serv.Pack 2 on a Windows 2000 computer

I have created an application using LabWindows/CVI on my computer. I would like to install this application on a Windows 2000 machine but  I receive a message saying something like  "This program requires Windows XP service pack 2".
What can I do to make this work.
    I am using LabWindows/CVI version 2010.
    Any Ideas?

OK, Thanks, I will try that.

  • Java 5 Hotspot VM crash on Windows 2000 Server, 2000 Pro and XP pro

    Hello,
We have had the following recurring error on different machines with Java 5, running one of our mission critical systems.
It seems to be a problem connected with AWT and "SafepointBlob" whatever that is.
Has anybody seen this kind of thing before? Does anybody know what the solution is?

  • I use to be able to connect to my shares on my windows 2000 computer via smb. Now the login screen appears but it shakes when I try to login no matter what?

I hav just upgraded from Lion to Mavericks.
Connection to my windows 2000 with smb doesn't work after uppgrading to Mavericks.
The login window appears but shakes as it doesn't recognize my password even if it is correct.
    Any solutions?

Back up all data if you haven’t already done so. There are ways to back up, even if you can’t log in. Before proceeding, you must be sure you can restore everything to the state it’s in now. If you’re not sure you can do that, STOP.
The procedure below may spare you the need for a clean reinstallation of OS X. If you don't feel comfortable carrying it out, don't. try.
Briefly, you need to delete the following file:
    /var/audit/current
If you already know how to do that, you can skip the rest of this message. Do it, and try again to log in.
Boot in single-user mode by holding down the key combination command-S at the startup chime. If you’re using an external USB keyboard, it must be plugged directly into a built-in port on the Mac, not into a hub. Release the keys when you see a black screen with scrolling white text. In this mode, there’s no graphical interface; just a command line. Initially, you can’t make any changes to files.
When the text stops scrolling, and you see a line ending in a pound sign (“#”), type the following command:
    mount -uw /
You must type the command exactly as given, with no mistakes. If you don’t feel able to do that, STOP. At this stage, no harm will be done if you make a mistake, but later, it will be. Press the return key.
    Next, type the following command:
    rm -i /var/audit/current
Press return. You should get the following output:
    remove /var/audit/current?
If that's not what you get, STOP. Type the single letter N, press return, and try again. Otherwise, type the single letter Y and pressreturn.
    Finally, enter the command:
    exit
Press return. The text will start scrolling again, and then the system will reboot. Try again to log in.

  • DAQcard 6024E crashes with windows 2000

I am using a daqcard with windows 2000pro and labview 7 and it occasionally stops responding and I have to do multiple re-boots of the pc before it starts working again. it also seems to occasionaly have problems being recognised by windows and max, sometimes it is picked up by one and not the other. Is this a patchable windows bug as i dont seem to have the same problems on a different pc also running win 2k pro. (but i haven't run on the other pc as long as the one with the probs) i have also noticed that if power it connected to the I/O on the daq card, the problem occurs more often on bootup of the pc.

Testing the DAQCard in another laptop is a good first step in order to verify that the problem is probably with the configuration of windows and software rather than with the hardware. It appears that your DAQCard is working properly since you do not see the problem on a different computer.
Often times problems with PCMCIA devices can be a result of the PCMCIA socket or the PCMCIA drivers and software. The following Knowledgebase contains good information on debugging problems with PCMCIA cards and discusses how to remove any 3rd party socket services (that are usually installed onto mainstream laptops) and replace it with the default Windows software:
    http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/websearch/7CBFAB1E451C3A1886256D98006914AE?OpenDocument
    In your particu
lar case you might check the resources and software settings of the two laptops to see if they are noticeable different. In particular check to see what software controls the PCMCIA devices and if there are other background programs running that might cause problems with Windows on your first machine.
Also, you will want to check to the version of NI-DAQ that you have installed to see if that is different between the two computers. All versions of NI-DAQ can be downloaded from our website (ni.com/support) if you wish to upgrade, with our latest version being NI-DAQ 7.1.

    This is your code?
The error tells you that ODBC crashed (not java.)
So your ODBC driver is the reason.
You can find a work around by determining exactly what call (SQL) causes the crash and then find a way around it.

  • IPhone 4 crashes a Windows XP computer when attached

A friend of mine is using an iPhone 4. I have to support him with OS-upgrades and moving data (music, pictures) to & from his phone, because when he attaches his iPhone to his PC, the PC crashes: shuts down within a second.
Equipment used: iPhone 4, iOS 4.3.3
PC: C2D, 4GB RAM, Windows XP, iTunes (did not note the version)
The PC normally serves seceral USB connections, like external HD and printer.
    iTunes runs normally.
Then you attach the iPhone via USB.
The iPhone appears in the sidebar of iTunes, there is a chime, and then, within a fraction of a second, the PC shuts down.
It shuts down very fast, completely, so next you have to switch it on with he power switch.
Has anything like this happened to anyone? Any ideas, suggestions?
    Many thanks!

Use the Windows File Transfer Utility to move everything.

  • Flash crashing my Windows 7 computer?

So a while back i started crashing randomly so i googled it and found nothing and it eventually stopped but recently it started again but more frequently. At first i thought it was Steam because when i opened it my computer would crash but when i uninstalled it i would still crash then i noticed it was only when i was watching youtube / was on a flash game so i did some researching and found out that others were having this issue is 2010/2013 and seeming to have the same crashing problems. Is there any was to fix this? Freezing computer(can still move mouse), Blue screen, auto restart, says Operating system is not found, have to restart again.

So you're saying my monitor is causing the crashes? That doesn't make sense since I lose computer response as well.. Also I watch other stuff like Twitch.tv w/ no problems, it's only when I watch videos from Youtube.
Nope. I said when I saw that, it was caused by a bad monitor. It's caused by "video hardware", which could be all sorts of things. Those repetitive lines are caused by something electrical, sort of like a sine wave on an oscilloscope. Software doesn't cause a monitor, (CRT, LED or LCD) to do that. What you're seeing is cycles of output caused by whatever component malfucntions when this happens. It could be a connector, the GPU, or any of who knows how many different things on the MoBo or throughout the system. Something in YouTube videos, and probably other sites as well, is pushing something too far or accessing something bad hardwarewise, that fails and causes this.

  • VM 1.4.2 running on Windows 2000

    Hi,
I'm running a java program on a Windows 2000 (Service Pack 4) machine using the JRE 1.4.2_06.
After a while the app. stops running and displays the message :
"javaw.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows.
You will need to restart the program.
An error log has been generated."
I don't have this problem on other systems like Windows 2000 (Service Pack 3), Windows XP (Service Pack 1).
    Any idea?
    Thanx,

Will you please generate "Dr Watson dump" of the JVM process?
To make drwtsn32 as your default debugger, follow these steps"
    1. Click Start, and then click Run.
    2. Type drwtsn32 -i, and then click OK.
To configure Dr. Watson, to produce dump file:
    1. Click Start, and then click Run.
    2. Type drwtsn32, and then click OK.
    3. Please make sure that "Create Crash Dump File" option is checked. When crash occurs, a dump file (.dmp extension) will be produced in the file configured with the option "Crash Dump" (there is browse button near that option to specify the directory where you want the dump file to be created).
Please send us the Dr Watson dump file for further debugging.

  • Can't download iTunes onto my new Windows Vista computer

I had iTunes on my old Windows 2000 computer. Just bought a new computer and have mu library saved on hard drive - transferred files to new computer but am unable to download iTunes. I have attempted the download multiple times. I have dial up internet and it takes several hours to download. Then I when I try to run the program I get the following message:
    files\content.IE5\TPKB3035\iTunes.setup(1)exe is not a valid win32 application
I have tried to uninstall and start over but iTunes does not show up in my programs.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks. Jan

I cannot find the file itunessetup.exe on my computer so I can't remove it. The itunes I am trying to install is the latest version, which is the one that is supposed to work with Windows Vista. However, it won't install for me. I am still getting the error message when I finish downloading.

  • Airport Express and Windows 2000

Curious why the Airport Express documentation says that it will work with (a machine running) Windows 2000, but the software stops installing when it detects Windows 2000.
Also, given this, wondering if there is a workaround.
    Thanks.

The AirPort Express Assistant is not compatible with Windows 2000.
To setup AirPort Express from a Windows 2000 computer, you must use AirPort Admin Utility for Windows version 4.0 or later.

I have heard that it is sometimes necessary to modify the plugin settings in the control panel in order to get the plugin to work with IE.
In the Control Panel, look for the Java Plugin icon. Double click. In the Advanced tab, you may need to select your Java Runtime Environment. Select JRE 1.4.2 rather than Use Java Plugin Default. I have heard that sometimes during installation that change does not take place. Note that in the first tab of the Plugin Settings you are able to select "Show Console" and that will allow you to see any error messages that may appear.
