Programmatically change the IAK on the fieldpoint controller.

Inside a g-based program.

Rascal,
If you are referring to changing the IAK file programmatically on the host see the following Knowledge Base:
http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/websearch/AD7E2B97C60086B886256DDE006FBED2?OpenDocument
Changing the item names that are downloaded on to the controller is not supported, but here is a possible solution (untested):
1. Download the item names to your controller.
2. FTP to the controller and then change the name of the following file: ftp:///NI-RT/SYSTEM/fpbank.ini. This is the file that holds the I/O modules names.
3. Repeat the previous two steps until you download several different sets of item names to the controller.
4. When you want to switch which configuration you are using just use the file I/O VIs to ch
ange the name of the item name file to fpbank.ini.
5. You may have to restart the controller before the new item names are valid.
As I said this is completely untested and unsupported, but a possible solution to want it seems you want to do.
On a side note you should try to be a little less harsh to people who are just trying to help you out.

Please don't take this as criticism.  Often users will post in multiple locations and get varying levels of help from each place they posted.  This makes for a fragmented discussion where one group of individuals aren't collaborating with a separate group of individuals who are working on the same problem.  Posting in both places is fine, but I think what helps is having a link from one post to the other, so that individuals in one group can see the discussion taking place in the other.  This helps avoiding suggesting the same solution twice, and help come up with solutions neither group has come up with yet.
At first glance the two posts looked similar enough that I thought this would be the case where the two groups can at least see the discussion taking place elsewhere.  If the two posts aren't related at all then I apologize for providing the link between them.

  • Can you programmatically change a picture control frame/border

In a platform neutral manner can I programmatically change a picture control frame/border
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

You can make it look that way using many differnt methods.
The simplest is to make the border transparent and put a boolean behind the picture. Size the boolean so it looks like it is the border of the picture. Change the color of the boolean and you are on you way.

  • Programmatically change PXIe-2529 topology with NISE

    Hi !
I have a PXIe-2529 that I control through NISE to test some products. These products require the matrix topology to be changed while I'm testing them.
Is there any way to do this programmatically ?
Opening/closing NISE session might be solution (even if I would prefer not to close it), but I can't find an option string xorking to change the topology...
    Any ideas ?
    thanks !
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    zyl7,
Unfortunately there is no way to change the topology on the fly with NI Switch Executive. A better method would be to have two NISE Virtual Devices, one for the 4x32 2 wire configuration, and one for the 8x16 2 wire configuration. You would close out the NISE session from VirtualDevice1, and open a session to VirtualDevice2 that references the same hardware. Of course, you would need to make sure that the external connections are connected properly, but this should change the topology for you.
Note: Closing the NISE session for VirtualDevice1 and Opening the NISE session for VirtualDevice2 will reset the switch module and cause all previous connections to open.
    Hope that this helps!

  • Programmatically change case structure range

I think I already know the answer to this, but I'm going to ask anyway. In the attached image, is it possible to programmatically change the range of numbers the case uses?

To use a property node on a case selector, you need to have a reference to it.  There are several ways to open the reference, depending on where the object you want to reference is located.
EASY - If the case selector is not inside another structure and has a unique name, use Open VI Object Reference with the name of the case selector as the input.  The owner is the block diagram reference and the object class is a case selector.
FAIRLY EASY - If the case selector is inside another structure or structures and all structures and the case selector have names unique to their diagrams, open the structures from outside to inside as in case 1.  After you open the structure reference, get a reference to the appropriate diagram and repeat until you get to the final case selector.
HARDER - Case selector has a unique name, but is buried in a container which does not.  Use the Traverse method to find all case selectors, then use the Label property of each to find the right one.
HARDEST - Case selector does not have a unique name.  Use the Traverse method to find all case selectors, then find the one you want by the frame labels.
The take-home message from this is that your life is much easier if you give your containers unique names.

  • Programmatically changing the TCP/IP address of Windows Vista / 7 / 8

    Hi there!
I'm pretty new to LabVIEW (started 2 months ago) and still have a long way ahead of me, so please forgive me if anything that I ask is too basic.
I'm trying to change the IP properties of the PC via LabVIEW for some bigger software I'm working on.
I can easily do it in Windows XP using the System Exec function to call cmd.exe and then use netsh commands, as previously explained for example here:
    https://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW/Programmatically-changing-the-IP-address-of-Win-XP/m-p/410533/highl...
    https://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW/Change-IP-number-and-Subnet-mask-with-LabView/m-p/407536/highlight/...
    http://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW/How-to-change-the-TCP-IP-settings-of-the-LAN-connection-from-LV/m-p/...
    http://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW/Change-the-computer-IP-address-in-LabVIEW/m-p/167481?query.id=108803... ...
But then, since I want to run my software in Windows 7 (& by extension to any Windows OS), I have a problem: netsh asks for elevated rights.
So, the next problem is: how do I run cmd.exe (or any other programm?, by extension) as administrator (from LabVIEW)?. Note that I'm using an account with admin rights. But I would prefer not having to disable the User Account Control configuration, and I don't want to force the user to any interaction (clicking in pop-ups, or right-clicking in anything), I want it to be as automatized as possible.
I did a bit of research and couldn't find anyway to do it, neither any command to run with cmd, so the two similar solutions that came to my mind are very rudimentary and kind of dirty:
Use DLLs to make LabVIEW press the keys necessary to open cmd running as admin via key shortcuts (using a variation of https://decibel.ni.com/content/docs/DOC-29563 and the key shortcuts from here: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/run-a-command-as-administrator-from-the-windows-vista-r...). Here, I open the Window menu (with LWIN), properly writes "cmd", and then uses CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER ok... but then the User Account Control appears and LabView keeps doing the commands (I want ALT+Y or LEFT & then ENTER)... without affecting to the UAC! If I make LabVIEW wait a bit and manually close the UAC I succesfully have the command prompt... but LabVIEW is still incapable of write the text that I'm giving it to him (the netsh commands). LabVIEW runs the software, but it's like the UAC & the command prompt are running in a higher? level and are not affected by LV. If I do the same over a .txt I succesfuly have the intended text. Any ideas about this?
Create a link to cmd.exe and change the properties to "Run as administrator", then use System Exec to call the link, expecting to open a command prompt with elevated rights, and then write the netsh commands either with DLLs (that might not work according to my first solution) or using the "standard input" of System Exec? (not sure if this is possible). But then System Exec gives me an error (code 2) when trying to execute the .lnk and so the command prompt does not open. The error code stands for "Error 2 occurred at an unidentified location. Possible reason(s): LabVIEW: Memory is full." Any idea about how to solve this?
The conclusion is that I'm stuck with two possible solutions none of them working.
Maybe there's a more simple solution that I didn't think about?
    Solutions to these problems?
    Any different proposals?
Thanks in advance for any tip or help!
Note: I titled the thread as Windows Vista, 7 & 8 since I assume all of them asks for admin rights when changing IPs. In case there are other people with the same problem, altough right now I'm only using XP & 7.

  • How to build a TestStand 2012 workspace ( insert a project / insert a folder) programmatically using LabVIEW 2012 and the TestStand API.

    Hi everybody!
I am just trying to find out how to create a TestStand workspace … in LabVIEW using the TestStand API.
To create a new workspace was quite easy. Unfortunately I am not successful to insert a new or existing project to the workspace.
Furthermore I have to insert a folder from disk to the new or existing project in the way that I can use an absolute path for the directory …
Maybe someone had already solved this problem, in any case  I am thankful for any hint.

  • Programmatically change Results Active Configuration

I'm using TestStand 2012 SP1.  I'd like to be able to configure the Active Configuration for results in the process model.  A station running our sequential model would set the Sequential Reporting configuration as the active configuaration while a station running a Batch Model would set the Batch Reporting as the active configuration.  Furthermore, if a station can do both, the application run would select the proper process model and it would then select the proper reporting configuration.
I've got configurations setup but need to know how to set the active configuration.  I don't want this on a  per sequence basis, but rather at the process model level so it is run once and done.  This would allow for developers to modify their configuration but still have the Batch or Sequential Reporting selected depending on what they are working on.
    Thanks.

You are right about the ModelSupport.seq version of the callback being used. You could:
    1. Modify the callback in ModelSupport.seq (or the call to it). You could determine what model you are being called from with something like:
         Find(RunState.Execution.GetModelSequenceFile().Path, "SequentialModel.seq", 0, True) != -1
    2. Use StationCallbacks.seq. When I tested this, I was having trouble getting it to call the callback, but when I restarted the editor, it started working. Not sure if you need to restart after editing the stationcallbacks file (you shouldn't need to), but try that if you have trouble and please let me know if that was the issue.
    3. As the first step in each model, you could load the configuration file, change the activeConfiguration, and resave the file, but (1) or (2) seem a bit less heavy handed to me.

  • My LV program can't find the iak file when the program is loaded from a different PC.

    Hello all,
My LV vi with Fieldpoint I/O and it's IAK file are stored on the company network.  If I load and run the LV vi from the PC it was developed on, everything is fine.  If I load and run on a different PC (that has an identical install of LV), the LV vi can't find the IAK file (all of the I/O pointers to the file are grayed out.)
Also, if I make an EXE out of the vi on the machine that can find the IAK, it won't find it if it's run from the other machine.
It is not related to whether one machine has different "rights", as they are identical.  It's not related to different installs of LV, as they are identical.
I have found that this is related to the network login name/password, and to the machine's network name.  If I login on the second machine and try to run the program, it won't find the IAK.  If I point it to the IAK it will run.  If I save it and log out, and then login as a different user with the same rights on the second machine, it won't find the IAK again, until I re-point it there when I re-run it.  This is true for both the vi and the EXE.
This problem makes deploying the EXE difficult to different machines, as the first time it's run, the EXE has to be pointed to the IAK.  Pointing the EXE to the IAK is difficult as these installations have no keyboard or mouse.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this so the LV vi or it's EXE finds the IAK from no matter where it's loaded from?
    Thanks,
    Mike

    Laura,
I figured I'd continue this thread because it's along he same line..
I have two Fieldpoint systems. They are identical, except for one thing...one has an AI-110 in position 7...the other has nothing. Both have the same IP address, etc and I swap the ethernet cable between them when I want to select which one I use.  I use a dedicated ethernet card to the FP processor...and it's not the company net.
There are two IAK files...one for the system with the AI-110, one for the system without the AI-110. The two IAKs are in different paths.
Before I had the system and the IAK without the AI-110, I made an EXE of the code that woked with the AI-110, and it worked fine.
But now if I run the EXE after I've used MAX and opened the IAK without the AI-110, the EXE won't read the AI-110!  I have to go back into MAX and open the IAK that has the AI-110 in it, close MAX and restart the EXE for the EXE to see the AI-110.  (Max is NOT SET to "Download Items on Save")
I looks like the EXE is looking at MAX to get the IAK or a pointer to the IAK.
Did I build my EXE incorrectly?  Shouldn't an EXE completely ignore MAX once it's made?
    Thanks,
    Mike

  • FP-module don't use new *.iak when changing to iak-file on runtime

    Hi folks,
    I'm using FP1001 (RS-485) communication modules with a bank of FP-AI-110
    (8 x AI) and FP-SG-140 (8 x StrainGauge) with LabVIEW 6.1.
Since I need to change input ranges of the modules on runtime
(autoranging feature) and there is no vi to manage this, I created a
    couple of iak-files with the FP-explorer (V3.02, build 177), where I set
the approbiate input ranges. My application then monitors the analog
input data of the modules and changes the used iak-file as needed to
    prevent over- and underranging.
When changing the iak-file the current session is closed (FP-Close) and
the next session is opened with FP-Open and Create Tag, continuing with
    FP-read.
My application does its' job well, since I monitor the currently used
iak-file, range and the fact that sessions get closed before opening the
next, but the FP-modules won't restart using the new range settings,
after the following session is started with the other iak-file. The
modules allways keep the previous settings.
    So whats wrong?
    Btw.
I noticed FP-Explorer also has its problems changing module- ranges,
    after loading a new iak-file.
So I startup the FP-Explorer with a iak-file for a low range setting
(module input range) and increase the input voltage at the module input
just as much that a overrange occurs. Then I load another iak-file with
higher range-settings. FP-explorer shows the higher range in its range
column, but when monitoring the module input values, overrange is showed
first. After restarting monitoring, the input values are showed
    correctly.
    Heres' the problem:
Loading the previous iak-file again, the overrange should show again,
since the input value was left at the higher value, as set before. But
no overrange shows! FP-Explorer monitors the higher input value which
istn't within the input range, showed in the range column.
So FP-explorer hasn't switched down the modules range!!!
Restarting monitoring, or reloading the iak-file doesn't change
anything. Restarting the FP-explorer shows overrange again when starting
to monitor values. Restarting monitoring lets the FP-explorer continue
to monitor the higher input value, which is above the range showed in
    the range column.
The only thing which helps all the time, is to open the devices context
menu, then to click on "Edit this device", and click on channel
configuration. Then a pop-up window asks which setting to use (file or
device). If I click on file, all the settings of the current used
    iak-file are used correctly.
    Ciao,
    Rainer

    Rainer,
The FieldPoint IAK File is used in application programs (e.g. LabVIEW, LabWindows/CVI, OPC) for channel names, handle information and scaling information. FP Open.vi launches the FieldPoint Server with the specified IAK file, and uses the information in the specified IAK file for scaling (serial modules require scaling on the computer, ethernet modules scale the data in the network module) but does not re-configure the IO modules according to the IAK file. Likewise, opening an IAK file in FieldPoint Explorer does not reconfigure the IO modules to match the IAK file. The only times that settings are synchronized between the IAK and the modules are when a)the Find Devices command is issued (config from modules loaded), b) the Channel Configuration wi
ndow is opened (file or module config can be choosen) or c) a Snapshot command is issued (current settings of modules are stored).
Currently, the FieldPoint Server VI's do not allow dynamic re-configuration of ranges. If you wish to dynamically reconfigure your module ranges, you will need to use the FieldPoint Optomux VI's, which are located under the RT sub-palette of FieldPoint. They are installed by default only if you have LabVIEW RT, so you may need to re-install FieldPoint Explorer (custom install) to get them. For more information on the Optomux commands, please see the FP-1000/1001 Programmers Reference Manual.

  • Change programmatically the range of SliderDouble component

    Hello,
Do you know how to programmatically change the minimum and the maximum value of a SliderDouble component?
I've tried using the property "Range" but Maximum and Minimum fields are in read-only.
Thank you in advance for your help.
    Regards,

You can set the Range property to a new value, instead of setting the sub-properties on the range. For example, to change just the minimum and keep maximum the same:
        slider.Range = new Range<double>( -1.0, slider.Range.Maximum );

  • How to change the color of Numeric array elements (seperately) programmatically using property node??

For example, i have 3 numeric controls, controlling 3 numeric array elements (Numeric control is connected directly to indicator). Then if i change value in numeric control 1, then the array element No.1 of numeric array should turn red when value exceeds 5. Similarly when i change num control 2 then element 2 of array should turns red when value in num control 1 exceeds 10. Similarly for 3rd element. In other words, i want to control the property of array elements individually through seperate numeric control.
I have done it for single numeric indicator.i.e. when i change numeric control's values then a single numeric indicator changes values and color (Numeric text BG property) but with array, the color of whole array changes but i want to change color of singles element of array.
    Please help thanks.

...or replace the numerics with clusters that have a numeric and a color box. make the background of the nmeric transparent and slide the color box behind the numeric. Use the color box to control the background color.
Other alternatives would use a cluster instead of the array or if your req's are really weird "roll-your-own" with a Picture control.

  • How to programmatically read/write the range of a fieldpoint AI channel using LV

Is there a way to programmatically read/write the range of a fieldpoint AI channel using LV ? The example on NI site only permit you to have the name of the device and channels, not the actual set of the range of measure. Anybody has a VI (LV5.1 please)to share?
    Thank you very much

If you are using the FieldPoint VI's (Open, Create Tag, Read, Write, Advise), you do not have the ability to change the range of a channel. If you have a FP-1000 or FP-1001, you can use the Optomux commands as described in the FP-1000/1001 Programmers Reference Manual (FieldPoint Optomux VI's are available at ftp://ftp.ni.com/support/fieldpoint/LVFPOpto/ ).
Alternatively, if you have an ethernet network module and LabVIEW 6i or later, you can use the ethernet configuration VI's that ship with FieldPoint Explorer 3.0.1.

  • ICal: Changing the assigned calendar of an event sends out a new invite to all participants

    iCal version 5.0.3:
I have multiple accounts set up (iCloud, shared, Exchange) in iCal.
I've noticed that when I receive an invite that is assigned to the wrong calendar (e.g. to my icloud calendar) and I then change the assigned calendar to the Exchange calendar, iCal actually sends an invite to all the attendees with me as the organizer of the event!
Instead of just changing the assigned calendar in my iCal, it creates a new invite on the new calendar from me to all the invitees.
This seems to be new behaviour (bug) in version 5, as I can't remember this happening in earlier versions. It stopped being funny when it just did this with a company-wide HR event to all employees
My default calendar is set to the Exchange account, but iCal seems to ignore that ever so often when adding new invites
Any ideas on how to prevent this, or do i have to wait for an update to iCal?

    Hi Chris,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
I often do the same thing (ie create an event in the wrong calendar). Are you aware that the assigned calendar appears in the info pane. You could simply select the correct calendar there, even reassign events.
I understand the desire to do this with Quickeys, though I suspect very few people here use Quickeys. So if you don't get an answer here I'd suggest you consider the Quickeys forum: http://forum.cesoft.com/
