PSE 11 Fails to Install - Shared Technologies Error
When installing Photoshop Elements 11 on a Windows 7 computer, the install fails while installing the Organizer. The error message refers to installing Shared Technologies.
The PC in question has PSE 10 installed and CS5. Based on previous experience, I tried ending the CS5 Bridge process, which has caused problems in the past.
I have tried multiple times with the same result.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.
You may need to install from a new user account.

Fail to Install - Shared Technologies
I am also having a problem installing PSE 10.
I previously had PSE 8 installed and just started having problems with it automatically shutting down without warning. This problem started today, and it is strange because I've been using it every day for months and had no problems before.
Tonight, I tried installing PSE 10 but received the following error "The wizard was interrupted before PSE 10 could be completely installed. Below mentioned application has failed to install: Shared Technologies"
I deactivated and uninstalled PSE 8, and still could not get PSE 10 to install because of the Shared Technologies not installing.
I have CS5 Design Premium on this computer. Do I need to uninstall that as well?Shared technologies usually refers to Flash, Adobe AIR or PDF handling stuff, so yes, uninstall each and every bit of Adobe software on your system, run the Creative Suite Cleaner Tool and Acrobat Cleaner Tool and possibly all the relevant fixes for Flash/ Adobe AIR and start over.

PE 9 always fails when installing shared technologies.
I even paid for it (I know theres no diffrence) but I always get the same error (Adobe Premiere elements failed to install shared technologies. Rolling back changes). I have windows 7 x64 And after 3 HOURS of waiting of the phone for a rep, I decided not to contact them for any info. PE 7 installed fine, but they don't work on windows 7.
Use task manager to see if you have any other Adobe software running in the background - Adobe Bridge is often the culprit for these installation errors. If you find anything running then use End Process.

Install of Elements trial fails when installing Shared Technologies
Have tried installing the Elements 10 trial on both an XP Pro and a Win7 Pro PC and have the same problem.
Install of trial fails when installing Shared Technologies and then rolls back the install of the Elements Organiser.
Anyone seen this before? Any ideas? Can you please make your question a seperate thread?
It would be helpful if you could please provide us the install log for it. Install logs can be found at C:\Program Files(x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Installers\ with name Elements STI Installer 1.0 <date>.log.gz
Use a decompression utility such as Winzip to uncompress the .gz file. Once uncompressed, you will have a new file without the .gz extension. The filename could now be something like "Elemens STI Installer 1.0 11-21-2012.log."
Open the .log file using notepad
Copy the whole log and paste it here.

I make it almost all the way through installation and at the end I get a message saying installation could not be completed, failed to install shared technologies. What does this mean? How can I fix it?
See if this troubleshooting guide helps. It has a section on shared technologies:

As kglad said the logs do not show any errors.
For troubleshooting using log files you can refer : http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/troubleshoot-install-logs-cs5-cs5.html

Premiere Elements 11 "installing Shared Technologies" error during install
How do I fix the "The installation process has encountered an error whil installing Shared Technologies. Please restart your system and try again." error while installing Premiere Elements 11? Photoshop Elements 11 installed fine, but I keep receiving this error while trying to install Premier Elements 11.
I have already tried:
Install from CD
Install from C: drive root
Install from Adobe website trial version
Install from CD, after clean boot
In each case it installs at the same place with the same error.
From searching these forums and doing a web search it seems like a common problem with no clear solution.FFWLKin
I do not know if what I am about to report will help or confuse the Premiere Elements users further on this Shared Technology error encountered during Premiere Elements installation, but here is hoping that something in the following experience might be of help to someone....
I entered your thread with the Shared Technology error (targeting Elements Organizer/Data 7) when trying to install Photoshop Elements 10 and Premiere Elements 10 on a new Windows 8 64 bit computer. Unlike the others I had no problems installing Premiere Elements 11 and Photoshop Elements 11 from the Adobe installation disc a week earlier on this brand new Windows 8 64 bit computer. Short of re-formatting the hard drive, I did everything plus with no luck in getting versions 10 installed on this Windows 8 64 bit computer. So, I decided to focus on working with the already installed version 11 programs.
I headed for Premiere Elements 11 to create a DVD-VIDEO format on DVD disc and to my horror found that the program's burn dialog had no burner(s) in the burner location (either the build in one or an external burner (USB). But, Premiere Elements 11 burn to folder did work. On the other hand, I found that Photoshop Elements 11 Organizer File Menu feature to burn (datadisc) to CD or DVD did recognize these burners and that burn to feature worked. I went through the typical drill for those in this type of situation and nothing remedied the problem. So, I decided to go for the deactivate/uninstall/reinstall route. Well, now Premiere Elements 11 reinstallation ran into the same fate as Premiere Elements 10, that is, it ran into the Shared Technologies error related to installation of the Elements Organizer and Premiere Elements 11 would not install after going through everything decribed in this thread, excluding re-formatting the hard drive.
1. Deactivated/uninstalled Photoshop Elements 11 and Premiere Elements 11.
2. Apply the cclearer: cleaner and registry cleaner. And, then went into the Registry and deleted all related to Photoshop Elements 10/Premiere Elements 10 as well as Photoshop Elements 11/Premiere Elements 11.
3. Disabled firewall, antivirus, spyware...
4. Tried to reinstall Premiere Elements 11, using the installation files (setup.exe in 64 bit folder) copied to hard drive. No go. Same Shared Technology error.
5. Started deleting programs that I had installed after the initial successful installs of Photoshop Elements 11 and Premiere Elements 11 (these programs included iTunes, VLC player, and ImgBurn). Still no go for the Premiee Elements 11 install, and same Shared Technologies error.
FINALLY, Photoshop Elements 11 and Premiere Elements 11 got successfully installed on this Windows 8 64 bit computer according to the following scenario (iTunes, VLC player, and ImgBurn still removed from system...firewall, antivirus, spyware protection re-enabled)
1. Attached a USB burner to computer via one of its USB 3.0 ports.
2. Inserted the Adobe installation disc into the burner tray of this burner in order to install the program(s) via the installation disc.
3. Selected install for Photoshop Elements 11. It went to completion without problem.
4. Selected install for Premiere Elements 11. It went to completion without problem. And, now the burn dialog/burner location did recognize the computer's built in burner and my USB external burner.
None of the above may have had anything to do with what finally triggerd the version 11 installation processes to go to completion. But, I add this to the mix of how Photoshop Elements 11/Premiere Elements 11 finally got installed in Windows 8 for the user.
And, I would offer this suggestion to those who have already installed Premiere Elements 11 on their Windows 8 64 bit. As soon as possible make sure you have burners listed in the burner location of the program's burn dialog.

PE 9 Fails to Install Shared Technologies - Adobe Support Stumped!
I'm having the same problem as reported in the now closed thread http://forums.adobe.com/thread/725863?tstart=0.
During installation, Photoshop Elements 9 installs Elements, then installs Organizer. When it gets to the point to install Shared Technologies, it stops the install and rollsback (uninstalls everything).
I've scoured the Internet and have not found a solution. Spent 5 hours on phone with two Adobe support people - they cannot figure out what to do.
This is a brand new laptop running Windows 7 64-bit. No other Adobe products are installed, so there are no processes to kill (as suggested to look for in the above post link).
I've tried the Adobe diagnostics utility noted in other posts on the Web. It was useless.
I've created new user accounts with Administrative rights. Still no luck.
I've got anti-virus and firewall turned off as well.
Now Adobe tells me they need to have 2nd level support contact me, which will probably take a week.
I am at wits end and about to write Adobe off.
If anybody has any suggestions, please help.
Thanks!lyriamc wrote: This is a brand new laptop running Windows 7 64-bit.
Which means its drivers will be out of date and may well have all kinds of junk installed. Work through the following, it frequently solves user problems with 'brand new' computers.

After PC repair I am unable to re-install Photoshop Elements 10 from a bundled disc as the Wizard was interupted. The Shared Technologies failed to install.
I am using Windows XP Pro. I have been struggling with this problem for 6 weeks now and would very much appreciare some help.Hallo Vibrant
Thank you for your concern and interest.
I am trying to reload Photoshop Elements 10 and Premier Elements 10 from a bundled disc, after a PC repair. These programs worked perfectly before the problems with my PC.
I do not get a specific error.
The program runs through the process including loading the serial number until, just when I think that the programs are fully loaded I get the following message.
Installation Wizard Completed
The Wizard was interrupted before Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 could be completely installed.
The below mentioned application failed to install.
Shared Technologies.
I am signed on as the Administrator whilst trying to install the software.
I don't know if the folder/files are locked.
I have run the Microsoft Fix It program and that reports that there are no problems.
I will try the link that you were kind enough to supply tomorrow. Thank you.

Photoshop Elements 12 fails while installing shared technologies.
I am having the exact same problem as all these folks. Yes I have tried all these things, yes I have followed all the links, and scoured the internet:
http://forums.adobe.com/message/5914286
http://forums.adobe.com/message/5909390#5909390
http://forums.adobe.com/message/5904696#5904696
Elements 12 install fails during install of Adobe Organizer. No indication of problems in the logs, just fails and rolls back. Near as I can tell the folks at adobe don't know what the real problem is, they only have a long series of very complicated and arcane tricks that _might_ "fix" the problem. I have tried all of them in every imaginable combination and still can't get elements 12 to install. I have installed stock, plain vanilla win7, applied hotfixes, tried to install and it still fails.
I repeat. This install failed for me in an identical fashion on a clean win7 box.
Any software that requires even one of these hack measures to install should be sent back to the shop for more testing. I've been told variously to try all these things, and more!
copy the installer to the root of c:
Delete this folder or that folder
Make a new admin account and install with that
Edit the registry
Turn off services in msconfig
Install in safe mode
What would be most helpful for me right now would be either 1) a patch to fix this critical install error or 2) explicit explanation from Adobe about what the real problem is so I can fix it myself.
I'm a little edgy, sorry for the tone. This is the single worst install experience I've ever encountered.Hi Jeff,
To follow up, I had an adobeconnect session today with a very competent and friendly adobe tech. It looks like we have resolved the issue. He said there was some kind of problem with air and/or bridge not keeping their files updated, not 100% on that part so don't quote me. He said one way to fix is to completely uninstall anything adobe and start from scratch. The other option is a little hackish, but it works for me and saves me the trouble of completely redoing the install. To follow up here are the steps to get this working, ymmv:
- Go through the Adobe Premiere Elements 12 install process up to the point where installing shared components crashes. Do not click OK.
- Start the task manager (ctrl+alt+del)
- Go to the processes pane and kill msiexec.exe*32 process, the adobe installer should die.
- Delete the Adobe Premiere Elements 12 link that's created on the Desktop. Do not use this link, it points to the Welcome screen and crashes.
- Also delete C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Elements 12\Adobe Premiere Elements 12.exe, for same reason as above.
- The exe that works is in that same directory called "Adobe Premiere Elements.exe", it doesn't go to the welcome screen and it does seem to work.
- Now it requires Adobe Application Manager to run, and we just killed the installer so you have to go grab it from:
http://www.adobe.com/appsmanager
- You don't even have to actually run it, just download and install and you're good (If you do run it it updates itself to Adobe Creative Cloud which has unknown consequences).
- Now run Adobe Premiere Elements.exe and plug in your adobe id
- ftw, should be good to go.
I tried this on 3 different machines. The installer broke identically on all and this procedure got it working. NB - Organizer apparently still isn't installed, but that doesn't bother me. Not sure if this will impact long term operations.
Thanks for your assistance, this does seem to be working for me now.

Why "failed to install shared technologies"?
My pc knowledge is very very limited. Why am I finding the Elements free trial download so difficult?
rename OOBE Folder to OOBE.old.
to find OOBE:
64 bit OS: Program Files x86\Common Files\Adobe\OOBE
32 bit OS: Program Files \Common Files\Adobe\OOBE -
I don't know what is going on with this. Photoshop worked but the premiere elements suddenly kept freezing so I un installed and am trying to reinstall but keep having the same issue. This is from a purchased dvd set. At one point when it got to this phase, the dvd started making an odd noise then roll back. I try again and again with no odd noise but still the same issue. It's not the pc I've had that remotely checked and other stuff installs. What gives? I NEED this fixed pronto

What computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 9.0/9.0.1 running on? For now, for the details below, I will assume Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit.
You are experiencing the known Shared Technology installation error syndrome which can hit any version of Premiere Elements on any computer operating system. There is no one fix. Lots of home remedies.
The fix that has worked for me consistently lately is this:
Local Disc C
Program Files (x86)
Common Files
Adobe
and in the Adobe Folder is the OOBE Folder. Rename the OOBE Folder from OOBE to OLDOOBE. Close out of there and try for the Premiere Elements 9 installation again. (Do not forget to do the Premiere Elements 9.0.1 Update after you have finished the Premiere Elements 9 installation.)
The following is a sampling of what some others have gone through with this particular error
Re: Premiere Elements 11 "installing Shared Technologies" error during install
Please let us know the outcome. We will think about this some more depending on your results.
