PSTN Usage in Voice Policy

Hi
I am using only one PSTN gateway in my setup to connect Local mobile numbers/National LAN line numbers or international numbers.
Now i want to define PSTN usage to my 3 types of users
1. Local Mobile call users
2. National Mobile/LAN Line number call users
3. International call users
Now i created a dial plan with set of normalization rules for all calls dialling configuration and 3 voice polices for those users. In this case,
should i use same PSTN gateway as PSTN Usage in voice policy configuration?
if i set how it will restrict users on 3 types of calls for those users?

Hi Thanks for your repies.
I understand. I have to use same PSTN gateway for all 3 PSTN usage records and associate with Voice policy. I create like this.
A user (Only Local Calls - Voice Policy 1)
B user (Only National Calls and Local Calls - Voice Policy 2)
C user (Only International calls, National calls and Local Calls- Voice Policy 3)
My question is
for each PSTN usage i have to define route. how to define route in this below attached image in each PSTN usage record that makes differnces on calls for those users.
I did configure all ignore numbers or addition numbers to make E.164 in normalization rules.
Ex: A users want to dial only local numbers +919003112485 ok. for this what i want to build pattern in route page?
B users want to dial local numbers and national numbers +919003112485 or +914412345678. for this what i want to build pattern in route page?
give me some examples configure route for local/national/internationa call routes.
Thanks

  • PSTN Usage in Trunk Configuration

    Hello
What is the usage of PSTN usage in the Trunk configuration tab?
I notice that it is not related to anything except the inter Trunk routing
    http://masteringlync.com/2013/06/07/inter-trunk-routing-deep-dive/
I have Lync setup and I can route calls (using voice policy- PSTN usage )from the Global trunk configuration which has no PSTN usage assigned to it
can you please clarify the usage of it ?
    Thanks

    Hi,
PSTN usages are the link between a voice policy and a route. PSTN usages can contain multiple routes, and can be assigned to multiple voice policies. A PSTN usage record specifies a class of call (such as internal, local, or long distance) that
can be made by various users or groups of users in an organization.
If a voice policy doesn’t share a PSTN usage with a voice route, then phone calls made by any user who has been assigned that voice policy will not be able to traverse that route.

  • New Dial plan & Voice policies not taking effect with Polycom CX 600 Desktop Phone in production deployment, Worked fine in Testing

    Hi,
We are in the process of Migrating Cisco CUCM & Voice Gateway (From another vendor to Cisco).
The requirement is all internal calls between Cisco IP Phones & Lync to be flown through CUCM. Means internal extension to extension. Remaining all calls like Mobile, National, International, Toll Free, Emergency, Shared numbers calling to be routed
    to Cisco Voice Gateway.
We created the test dial plan, Voice policies, Route and assigned it to couple of user from Lync (2 extensions) and from Cisco side we have taken 2 IP Phones which is pointed to new CUCM. We tested all below scenarios, everything was working fine.
Lync to Lync Call using internal Extension number – Routed through Cisco new CUCM
Lync to Cisco Call using internal Extension number – Routed through Cisco new CUCM
Cisco to Lync Call using internal Extension number – Routed through Cisco new CUCM
Lync to Hotline Numbers (66XX, 68XX Numbers) – Routed through Cisco Gateway
Lync to Shared Numbers starting with 600 (Verified the number 600535353) - Routed through Cisco Gateway
Lync to Emergency numbers & Toll Free Numbers (Not verified the emergency Number as we decided to do it at end) - Routed through Cisco Gateway
Lync to Landline Numbers – Any 7 digit numbers - Routed through Cisco Gateway
Lync to National Numbers – Starting with 3,4,6,7,8 followed by 7 digits - Routed through Cisco Gateway
Lync to Mobile Phones – Starting with 05 contains exactly 10 digits - Routed through Cisco Gateway
Lync to International Numbers – Starting 00 contains at least 11 digits - Routed through Cisco Gateway
All Incoming calls – From Landline, Mobiles, International Numbers - Routed through Cisco Gateway
Call Transfer – To another Lync Extension, Cisco Extension, Landline, Mobiles, International Number
Conference – with another Lync Extension, Cisco Extension, Landline, Mobiles, International Number
Call Forwarding – To another Number, Voice mail
    Response Groups
Click to call – As if user try to place a call by directly click the number from Outlook, Websites will be in E.164 format
Dial in meeting – Conference calls are works fine
But when we roll out to the production we are facing issues listed below
    1) The phones we used during testing are working which is using same dial plan, Voice policy, Route, PSTN Usage. But from production most of the phones are not working (using the same dial plan, voice policy, Route). Also Problem is only with external calls
as the internal calls are working fine between Cisco & Lync even in production (Routed through CUCM) NOTE: All incoming calls are working fine (From international, local, national, extension)
    2) How long its going to take for Lync to push the new voice policies, Dial plans to the Phones?
    3) Is there a way to forcefully update the policies, dial plans to the Phone?
    4) Also the environment is using over 100 dial plans, so I just copied and pasted the Normalization rules that we tested and working fine.  Most of the dial plans are assigned to individual users as every dial plan contains a normalization rule for
international calling with Unique Prefix (Example: User John international Normalization rules says #1234#00#CountrycodePhonenumber, means if John has to place the international call he need to dial #1234# followed by 00 and then country code, then actual
phone number). In this case how long its take for the users / phones to get updated with new dial plans?
    6) Is it recommended to use multiple dial plans ? What are the best practices?
    5) Also calls are working fine one & failing on subsequent tries. Means when I dial first 1 or 2 times. Call fails, but when I try 3rd time and subsequently it works. After some again there will be failure during 1 or 2 attempts. Why is it so?
    6) After updating the dial policies, voice Route, Voice policies If i reboot all the phones from Switch, Will the changes take effect immediately?
    7) Also when some one calling from mobile or external number to Lync extensions they cant here any Dial tones or caller tunes? Its working fine when they call Cisco Extensions. Also to Lync its working if we dial in E.164 Format, if we dial like 023XXXXX
format its not working. Any guess about this issue?
Waiting for some one to help,
    Best regards
    Krishna
    Thanks & Regards Krishnakumar B

    Hi,
    1.  As all incoming call worked normally, please double check outgoing ports for Lync FE Server and Mediation Server.
You can refer to the link of “Ports and protocols for internal servers in Lync Server 2013” below:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg398833.aspx
    2.  When an administrator makes a change to Lync Server (for example, when an administrator creates a new voice policy or changes the Address Book server configuration settings) that change is recorded in the Central Management store.
In turn, the change must then be replicated to all the computers running Lync Server services or server roles.
So it may not replication completely immediately.
    3.  You can run the following cmdlet with Lync Server Management Shell on FE server to
forcibly replicate information to a computer: Invoke-CsManagementStoreReplication
    4.  As you used over 100 dial plans, it may be the issue of multiple dial plans. Would you please tell us why you created different dial plan for individual user with unique prefix?
    5.  Multiple dial plans and undue normalization rules may cause call fail. You can double check the normalization rule.

  • Is there any other way to achieve per user call forward restriction other than to create multiple voice policies?

    Hello,
We mentioned the environment details below:
    Environment
In our PBX environment, currently a user can forward calls to any local (within a region) internal extension. But for external PSTN call forwarding, a user needs to send a request and be approved by their manager. And the forwarding restriction
is applied such that user is only allowed to forward to that particular PSTN number - to prevent toll fraud.
Moving forward to Lync, using voice policy's call forwarding and simultaneous ring PSTN usages, I can set it to allow forward and simultaneous ring to custom PSTN usage and a custom route that will only send calls to these pre-approved
    external numbers.
    Outcome
    But in such a scenario,
sSince all the custom external allowed numbers will have to be put into a single Route match table, User A will be able to successfully
set up call forward to User B's number. (if they come to know about it somehow, that is)
    rü
Route matching list will be very long due to the number of users per hubsite that has call forwarding enabled.
    Questions
Is there any other way to achieve per user call forward restriction other than to create multiple voice policies ? MSPL may be ?
    2. Is there a limit in the number of entries you can have on the Route pattern matching regex expression ?
    Please advise. MANY THANKS.

    1) I think multiple policies may be your best bet, though it's not a fun one to manage, I agree.  MSPL could do it, but it would be more complex to maintain in the end.  Even gateways have limitations on routes.
    2) I'm not aware of a limit, though I'm not saying there's isn't one.  But if you hit it, you could move to a second usage/route combo.
I'd suggest building out some PowerShell usage/route creation/organization script for this so it's not something that would need to be maintained within the GUI.

  • Response Group to PSTN Outbound Caller ID

    Hi Guys,
I'm trying to implement an after hours paging service on our lync system using a response group (with overflow set to 0), but the problem I'm currently facing is that the outbound calling number ID is set to the number of the caller, which I'm not legally
allowed to present here in Australia. I could in theory set the number to be private, but that will cause people to screen the calls.
Is there any way to get the RGS application to set the call history in the same way that simultaneous ringing does, even perhaps on some server side-scripting?
This is the SIP info I get in a simultaneous ring, where xxx is the number they called, and yyy being the number they called from.
    HISTORY-INFO: <sip:+xxx@frontend;user=phone>;index=1,<sip:+yyy@frontend;user=phone>;index=1.1
Any input would be very appreciated :)

I'm curious what happens if you try this:
You'd create a new voice policy, PSTN usage and route.  On the route, you mask the caller ID to be your business's primary number.
Then assign that policy to a user account that you've created just for this purpose.  That user account should forward it's calls to the number the response group should call.
Then, with the overflow still set to 0, instead of a calling the number, you call that forwarding user account with the caller id mask.

  • Voice Routing: Normalization Rule vs. Route

We're just testing some Enterprise Voice stuff within our Lync Environment but there's still one Thing not clear to me: On the specific user tab, we're able to assign a "Dial plan policy" and a "Voice policy"
In the Dial plan policy we're able to enter the normalization rules for Digit Manipulation.
In the Voice policy we can assign routes the call will take (e.g trunk).
But for example if there is a normalization rule which translates +402221111 to 1111 and on the route there are just numbers allowed starting with 1, why the call will fail? In my opinion the number should be translated to 1111 right after dialing and
this should match the proper route.
Can someone describe how the callflow is working in Detail. Will it maybe check for the specific route before there is any Digit Manipulation process?
    Thanks in advance

Typically you'd do it the other way around, you'd translate 1111 to +402221111 so that it's in proper E.164 format, and you'd have your routes match that.
What you described should work though, at a very high non-mechanical level:
A number is typed into Lync
The number is normalized by the users dial plan (typically to a standard such as E.165)
The normalized number is compared against the voice policy, which will match if it finds a route that matches that's tied to the policy through a PSTN usage.
An INVITE is sent through the trunk using the path determined.
What kind of errors are you getting and do you get a "pass" in the Lync Control Panel -> Voice Routing -> Test Voice Routing when you enter the information?  If not, you've got a typo or misconfiguration somewhere and giving more detail
    will help.

  • Requirements and conditions for PSTN reroute

I've searched around this board and other resources, but couldn't find an answer to my questions. What is required, besides having it enabled in a Voice Policy, for PSTN reroute to work? Do the users have to be at different sites? Do I have to setup and
enable CAC for PSTN reroute to work?
Also, what triggers PSTN rerouting specifically? Is it when FE pools in different sites can't talk to each other?

This was a very interesting explanation about "PSTN rerouting"
    Intercluster
    Routing Component
The Intercluster routing component is responsible for
routing calls to the callee’s primary Registrar pool. If that is unavailable, the component routes the call to the callee’s backup Registrar pool. If the callee’s primary and backup Registrar pools are unreachable over the IP network, the Intercluster routing
component reroutes the call over the PSTN to the user’s telephone number.

  • IT Policy Removal

Full disclosure - I did post this question on another forum and I just want to make sure I have the correct response.
I just purchased BB8900 Curve from someone who works at a company.
I found out from my carrier that my device is IT Policy Enabled.
For example, under Options>Status and typing BUYR - the voice and data usage showed IT Policy Enabled. Under Options>Security Optoions>General Settings, it displayed the IT Policy with the company name.
I went to the blackberry website and found the following:
How to remove an IT policy from a BlackBerry smartphone
    http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=KB14202&sliceId=1&docTy... 0 399934056
There are 3 options - 2 of which involve the company's IT department. I didn't want to wait for vendor's IT department, so I used the 3rd option and I removed it myself (I believe).
When I type in BUYR under Options>Status, it shows the actual usage for voice and data (no IT Policy).
So it appears to be removed.
I have a data plan with the device but not a BES plan.
    My questions:
    1. Has the IT Policy been removed from my device?
    2. Is it possible for whatever reason for the vendor's company to issue a IT Policy to my device remotely because they do have its info - PIN/IMEI? I hate to think that they could control my device remotely or see my emails/data?
    Please help. Thank you!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    1. Yes.
    2. No, you're not on their BES, you don't have a BES account, and the device is not even activated on their BES. That would require their giving you a password, and you're action to make the activation.

  • Lync to PSTN call features

Can we make calls from Lync to long distance telephone numbers?

    Hi,
Yes, you can call PSTN call using Lync Server 2013.
On Lync Server, you need to deploy Mediation Server to support Enterprise Voice. Then you can choose PSTN connectivity methods: SIP Trunking and Direct SIP connection. After finish it, configuration Voice Routing (Dial Plan, Voice Policy and so on)with Lync
Server Control Panel or Lync Server Management Shell.
You can deploy Lync Enterprise Voice with the help of the link below of “Deploying Enterprise Voice in Lync Server 2013”:

  • Enterprise Voice and Lync Meeting Outlook Add-In, Dial in Numbers

I ran across something that I was unaware of and wanted to double check here.
Background:  I am running a two pool Lync 2013 Enterprise Deployment with an OCS pool being phased out.  All users are migrated to Lync backend using the OCS client but our conferencing numbers still exist on the OCS deployment.
As man know, when you upgrade to the Lync client, it removes the Outlook add-in for conferencing and places a single button for scheduling conference calls and meetings.  Ideally, depending on the pool the user is on, the information that is populated
in the meeting request comes from the pool they are assigned to.
I have found that without enabling Enterprise Voice and setting the voice policy to Automatic, Outlook will still use the OCS numbers in the meeting request.  Once I enable EV for a user and set the VP to Auto, they receive the correct numbers based
    on pool registrar.
I am still currently searching but what I would like is confirmation that I do need to enable Enterprise Voice with Voice Policy set to automatic to have Outlook obtain the correct numbers for the pool any user is registered to.

I don’t believe the enable Enterprise Voice and assigning a dial plan can change the behavior of the Outlook add-in.
    The process is like this:
The conference organizer uses Microsoft® Outlook® to schedule a conference, and then Outlook communicates with Microsoft Lync Server 2010 by using an Outlook add-in that is included as part of the Microsoft® Lync™ 2010 installation. Outlook
uses the information supplied by the server to create a new invitation, which includes a conference URL for attendees who are joining the conference by using one of the supported Lync clients, and telephone numbers and a conference ID for attendees who are
    joining by phone.
When you mentioned OCS numbers, did you refer to Lync dial-in access number or conference ID?

  • Setup of 2 B-channel transfer (TBCT) on Cisco Voice Gateway

    Hi all,
In my scenario, I have several remote locations, each with their own T1-PRI connection to the PSTN via Cisco voice gateways.
The call flow has the caller calling a PSTN number at the remote location.  This call hits a CUCM translation pattern and is immediately hairpinned/tromboned out to a PSTN number located at the UCCE central location.
The customer would like to perform a 2 b-channel transfer back up to the CO switch, to free up B-channels to the remote location.
My question is this:  Assuming my switch type is supported and the PSTN provider supports 2 b-channel transfers, do I simply need to add "isdn supp-service tbct" to my serial interface configuration?
I have seen discussions that it is as simple as this, to needing some tcl/xml code, to also requiring aaa to be setup.
As there are over 100 locations being considered for this enhancement, the customer would like to know if it is 15 minutes or 2 hours per location to implement.
    Thanks,
    Joe

    Thanks Paolo,
    That was my expectation.
They have this going on the VG's utilized by CVP, so I will ask them to review the XML in use there for tweaking for the remote locations.
    Thanks again!

  • Lync location policy 911 notification does not work without Enhanced emergency services

In Lync Server 2010 it seems that the 'enable enhanced emergency services' feature must be selected in order for 911 chat notifications to work?  This is problem for us because by selecting that we can no longer mask outbound caller IDs. After
selecting that feature all outbound calls to 911 would only display our main telephone number (non 911 calls masked fine), and not the number we have set for it to display in Lync.  We do this because we have mutiple offices and want to display different
caller IDs based on a Voice Policy.
Addtionally, it would be great if Lync could sent an email instead of a chat to alert our HR group of a 911 call. Chat only works if people are online.  Also, with email, an HR person can reply to all and say "they got this" or "911 was
false alarm".  How is the chat conference set up, so memeber of HR would be joined together (if email is not an option)?  Thanks

Kind of "late to the party", I hope you found a working solution.
On Lync Client, you can search for a distribution list and right click and "send IM". That opens a Conference Chat with those people.
Perhaps you can set the same with the 911 notifications, so it opens a conference with people in a distribution list, so someone who is online and received it can respond to the group.
Our office is moving from Avaya to Lync tomorrow, and we're still learning things too.

  • MTN numbers in usage stats - how to determine where they originate

    Evening all,
I could not find an appropriate category for this question.  So I am hoping here is ok.
In MyVerizon, under usage statistics > voice calls I see occasional MTN numbers show up. I was told these are Mobil Telephone Numbers, however the numbers never make sense.  For example, one is "0000032665". Any idea what this number represents and how I might determine the actual number that generated this call?  I could not find any information on the Net about how to trace these numbers.  Without that information there's no way to stop them from calling.
    Thanks in advance.
