Publishing / File Put question

I am beginning to use Dreamweaver 8 after originally building
and maintaining my site in DW MX 2004. In the 2004 version when
using the Put Site or Put Files command it seemed to only send
files to the server that were new or changed. Now in DW8, the Put
Site command Puts everything even if it's a file that's not being
changed--thus it takes longer to publish. I have looked thru the
settings and cannot find how to set the program to publish only new
or changed files and assets. Could someone please advise on this?
Thanks.

If you want to up load just the file that you have just
updated use the put
button from the document window after you have saved the file
or highlight
it in the files panel and use the put button from the files
panel. If you
have the put set in the preferences to ask for supporting
files for that
document you can choose to up load them as well or not. It
will upload that
file only.

  • PUB2ID - Open MS Publisher files directly in InDesign...

Just saw that Markzware came out with PUB2ID to open MS Publisher files directly in InDesign straight from the Mac without having to do anything on a PC. AWESOME!

Ahh.. well.. I just saw it today =)
Glad it works pretty well. I'm mainly interested in being able to edit the documents and get all the RGB crap out of the documents.. thats one of the main issues we have. That and being able to color sep stuff. I usually take Publisher files, put them on the PC, print to PDF and send to the Mac for setup in InDesign.. but then.. if they want something changed before we print, I cant just do that in ID obviously.. I have to go back to the PC, edit the file (if I can.. since I dont know jack squat about Publisher) and re-PDF and send back to the Mac...
And yea.. I havent been around for a while. I'm doing fine. Just never really had much to talk about regarding InDesign.. my only real issue right now is that I cant upgrade to 10.5 until they fix ID =( That sucks a major one.

  • An error occurred while publishing file "/Web/Sites/iWeb/Jim and Steph's Si

I'm guessing this is a common message most see when they try to publish their website. Reason I say this, is it is the only message I have recieved in the last week when trying to use this faulty software.
Here it is again if you missed it:
An error occurred while publishing file “/Web/Sites/iWeb/Jim and Steph's Site/Jim's Blog”.
I got this MacBook week ago yesterday. Totally excited to share pictures and blog information. Spent 99 dollars or close to it for a mac account to simply share this information on the web. The first four pages (all pictures), I published worked well. Then I updated to iWeb 1.1.1 and tried to publish with blogs and more pictures and it won't work. Now all that I published before does not even come up. I emailed support here on mac.com and got the generic reply that I have already read on this forum. I tired as many fixes as I could to no avail. Two questions:
    1. Any ideas to fix this problem?
    2. Can you get your money back?
    Sorry this was so long.
    Thanks everyone,
    Jim B

    Jim...
Try doing a "Publish All to .Mac" if nothing else works for you. And if I could make a recommendation, it probably wouldn't be a bad thing to simplify your site name (Jim and Steph's Site) and eliminate the apostrophes (also in Jim's Blog). A longer site URL with complexities such as punctuation and spaces and even capitalization can potentially wreak havoc on your site navigation and function. Simplifying your site and page names will at the very least lead to shorter and more recognizable URLs...and when you start to add more pages it will also make the navigation menu at the top of your pages look "cleaner". Think simple names, like "oursite" and "HeSays" or "SheSays"
    Just a suggestion.

  • MS publisher 2010 to PDF using Adobe Acrobat X Pro produces outlines on some of my images that are not there on the publisher file!

I am helping a client publish a book through Createspace. We are both using Windows 8 OS. She created her document in MS Publisher 2010. I made the necessary edits to her book, (111 pages) and saved it as a pdf for commercial printing. The resulting pdf puts lines on some of the images. (All the images are jpg format, but it only happens to some.) I have tried creating the pdf in several different ways including print to PDF, Save as PDF, and Save and Send Wizard for commercial printing. I have also tried deleting and reinserting the images. I don't know what else to try. Does anyone have any ideas.
The image below shows what I mean. On the left is the Publisher File, on the right is the PDF.

I agree with your statement; even for a particular document, if I choose to "Print on both sides" and then print again immediately after, "Print on both sides" will be deselected.
However, I'm not sure what you're implying by you're statement. I'm asking precisely why this setting isn't sticky. Acrobat uses a non-standard printer dialog; in the usual dialog I can easily set a defualt duplex setting. I almost always want to print duplex. Why can't I do this by default in Acrobat?

  • Publish Error - An error occurred while publishing file "/Web/Sites/iWeb/X"

    Hello everyone,
I've been using mac for about 10 years now and have finally decided to try out this iWeb application. Spent several hours putting the site together... fun... but when I hit the publish button, the following error popped up.
    Publish Error
An error occurred while publishing file "/Web/Sites/iWeb/X". (X being my site name which also happens to be my .mac account name.
So I've spent another 3 hours trying it over and over again but still no luck. So I've searched this forum and see if there's any tips. Found a lot of solutions but none of them seem to help. I've deleted all the folders and file on my 'Sites' folder on the iDisk. Closed all running apps before hitting the 'Publish' button. And I've even deleted all my work and tried just to upload the 'welcome' page. Still doesn't work.
I'm getting a bit annoyed... Are there any solutions for my problem??
    I'm using a PowerBook G4 12" 1.33GHz Mac OS X 10.4.9 with iWeb 1.1.2
Any help will be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!!

     PowerBook G4 12" 1.33GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Probably not. No big deal, really. The important thing is we have been able to get your site on the .Mac server, albeit in the homepage directory.
Ok here's your last assignment. This will also take awhile, but when you are finished your site will be up on .Mac and accessible using the web.mac.com/username/iWeb/sitename url.
Since you have already initiated a publish to .Mac from iWeb, the root directory for iWeb should be on your iDisk. You should be able to navigate to the iWeb folder following this path:
    Go/iDisk/MyiDisk/Web/Sites/iWeb/SiteFolder
"SiteFolder" should be a folder named for the site you are having trouble publishing.
On your desktop, open the Site folder that iWeb delivered when you published the original site using the Publish to a Folder... command. You will see a number of folders in there and a number of page.html files. Drag each of these into the Site Folder mentioned earlier, on the iDisk. (The one named for the site). The root index.html file, (the one published outside of the Site folder) needs to be placed in the Web/Sites folder; you should see it in the column above the iWeb folder when done. Basically, you are "manually" uploading your site. It's cumbersome and a royal pita, but if successful, this exercise will confirm what I have suspected all along:
The problem is a latency/time-out error. (The actual error message itself is misleading and somewhat immaterial--iWeb probably chose it randomly). Lots of things contribute to it, but basically, iWeb gets tired of waiting on the WebDav protocol and then generates an error message. I wish I could be more specific, but that's about as close as I can get to the core issue. Many folks publish successfully from your area of the world; just keep trying, and when all else fails, you can always swap out the changed files manually following the method outlined above.

  • MobileMe problems! "Error occurred while publishing file..."

Is anyone else getting an "error occurred while publishing file" message when they try to publish their iWeb sites to MobileMe? This happens all the time. As a result, all my red icons in the iWeb window remain red.
I have tried renaming one of the site folders in MobileMe to see if that would eliminate the problem -- the program would think it was putting a new site on the Internet, instead of updating an existing one. That didn't work.
If anyone has any advice, I'd be grateful.

Me too. I went to the Apple store today as I have tried everything. Everything was fine until I updated to iLife 09. The advice I was given was to delete the site from my iDisk and then republish the whole thing - so as to start from fresh - but guess what?- same problem.
    I got this error message.
    Publish Error
An error occurred while publishing file “/private/var/folders/ia/iabx77EFHCGu5JUdA-gS+++TI/TemporaryItems/com.apple.iWeb403_TEMP_255806071_2/sites/SukiHutchinson/Media/10 Left Bank Two - Theme From Vision On-1.mp3”. Try publishing again later.
Any help would be appreciated - the mp3 file was fine before and it is not a DRM.
    Thanks

  • CP5 Trail Version: Published files not playing

    HI
I have been evaluating CP5 and published a file to show to my collegues.
Placing the published HTM and SWF file on a network drive or as an email attachment to share with the others and they don't work.
They work for me if the files are on my pc but don't if I try to access them from a network drive.
So the question is, is the trail version  crippled so that the published files can only be played on the PC that they were published on? Or have I done something wrong in the publishing process?
I can't seem to find any reference to the files being crippled.
    Cheers
    Craig

    Hi Craig,
When you publish to SWF, Captivate outputs 3 files 1 htm file, 1 SWF file and 1 js file. On your desktop if you open the HTM file the content will open as it can see the SWF and JS files in the same folder.
If you are sending it as an email then zip the content  and in the destination machine unzip and launch the HTM. This should play the content.
If you are trying to access the files from a network location make sure all the 3 files are in the same folder and you have read permissions to the folder

  • I have captivate 6, I´m using Quizers part and I need to publish  file .app in .ipa, what do I have

I have captivate 6, I´m using Quizers part and I need to publish  file .app in .ipa(ipad), what do I have to do to make it run in native way, that is without internet conection?

    Hi!
That's an interesting question you have raised.
I would recommend you to create your Captivate Project, Publish it to HTML5 output and Zip the Output Package,
Use the PhoneGap to package it for iOS devices and produce .IPA file for the same .
You can create an account here -- https://build.phonegap.com/
I haven't tested it yet, but, I'll do it today.
Let me know if this works out.
    Thanks,
    Anjaneai

  • Captivate 6 - Combining publishing files

We're working to convert our old multimedia presentation system to a modern one.  To maintain backwards compatibility, we want to use Captivate to publish both Flash and HTML5, which is already supported.  The problem we've run into is that we can't have "multiscreen.html" operate as a frame-based system.  Instead, we need the player to be generated in the same file as it determines which player to load (supervisors instructions).  This would be beyond easy in PHP, but we're restricted to jQuery.  I've gotten the system to work, but there is a hiccup that I have not been able to correct.  When the HTML5 player loads, the #project_container DIV is not compensating for the height of the playbar, so it's generating 720px instead of 750px.  Editing the height in the CPLibrary, or through jQuery after the DoCPInit() runs, results in a partial fix.  Either of these modifications will allow the playbar to display, but only after adjust the size of the browser window.  Upon generation, the playbar is hidden below the screen.
As it is, I've yet to figure out why the playbar is being ignored by the replacement of the three original .html files.
The file I created can be viewed at http://studentweb.ecpi.edu/chresb9788/ENG120_U1_Lecture1/index_frameless.html while the original published files can be accessed at http://studentweb.ecpi.edu/chresb9788/ENG120_U1_Lecture1/index.html.  I renamed the files so they make logical sense, but otherwise they're the exact same.  The CPLibrary file is also in its original state, no modifications as all.  If you pull up a browser debugger on the index.html, you'll see that the #project_container displays the appropriate height by default, while the index_frameless.html displays the appropriate height - playbar height (30 px short).
Other than the hiding playbar, my code seems to work perfectly and I have been able to copy the files to additional publications from Captivate with identical results (fully functional, just the quirk with the playbar).
Most of the modifications I've had to make were for background transparency.  Here's a list of the files I've modified to make this work:
    \assets\css\CPLibrary.css
    \assets\js\CPWidgetManager.js
    \captivate.css
\index_frameless.html (Combination of projectname.html, index.html, and multiscreen.html, with tweaking of the Flash/HTML5 identification)
    \project.js
    \standard.js
Any assistance that can be offered would be greatly appreciated.

Alright, so I figured out that the "primary" issue was with the wrapper DIV used to load the player based upon whether HTML5 video was playable or not.  As soon as I removed the wrapper, it worked without issue.  It's not exactly what was wanted, but we by-passed the issue by wrapping the CSS and JavaScript links in the wrapper alone and applied jQuery to force the player/loading screen and wrapper to hide when the Flash player is used (displayed using wrapper too).
This means that everything loads regardless of the player being used, but it hides what isn't needed from view.  A working copy can be found at http://studentweb.ecpi.edu/chresb9788/ENG120_U1_Lecture1/index_frameless_new.html.  For anyone interested, here is the direct code utilized:

            document.Captivate.focus();
          </script>
        </div>
      </body>
    </html>
Maybe yall will be able to figure out a better way to do this, but this will be enough for our purposes.  All we'd have to do is replace the SWFObject with a new Flash output and put this file in the output folder.

  • Captivate 4 - Issue viewing exported PDF in published file on LMS

I'm working in Captivate 4 and have included a link to a PDF document on a particular screen. It works beautifully when I view the published file until I move the files into the LMS - at that point, the PDF won't launch.
Here's what I've done and hopefully someone can tell me what I need to do differently?? I created a click box on a screen and have set the On Success field to "Open URL or file". I browsed to find the location of my PDF and clicked the drop down arrow to select "New" and "Continue playing project" (so the learner can return to the original course when they're done reading the PDF). When I publish the file to Flash, I select the "Export PDF" option and it does it's magic. When I preview the published version, everything works beautifully, the course runs, the PDF launches and life is good. Then, I set up the course on our LMS and copy over the published files (including the source PDF). The course plays as expected until the learner clicks to view the PDF - at that point, nothing happens. What am I doing wrong? Does this have anything to do with Adobe Reader 9 (which many of our learners wouldn't have on their desktops)? Do I need to convert my PDF to HTM? Help... please!

    Hello,
If I do understand your question all right (sorry, am not a native English speaker), I do believe you are mixing up two things. If you want indeed to publish to PDF (and not to SWF or EXE), you'll get a multimedia PDF (in which a SWF can play) but in that case the user really do need the Adobe Reader 9, previous versions do not support multimedia PDF.
What seems a bit contradictory is that you start with mentioning an issue with a PDF that should be called from a CP-slide. The problem there could be that you were linking to an absolute path on your PC when browsing, can you check that? If you introduce simply the name of the PDF and you make sure that the PDF and the CP-published files (normally HTML, JS and SWF) are uploaded in the same folder, the CP will find the PDF. I think you now have a 'broken link' because of an absolute path reference for the PDF.

  • Help - weird graphic "flash" in published file

I have several published Captivate files I have
imported into a Lectora file delivered via our LMS. When entering a
page that contains a movie, I'm seeing this weird green graphic for
a split second, then the movie begins to play. The graphic looks
like a grid of navigation buttons - next, back, refresh, mute, etc.
It's only happening on pages that contain a Captivate movie.
Nowhere in my Captivate files or my Lectora file do I have a
    graphic that looks like this.
Any ideas as to what's happening and how I can get rid of it?
Thanks in advance for any help!
    Rachel

    Hello,
If I do understand your question all right (sorry, am not a native English speaker), I do believe you are mixing up two things. If you want indeed to publish to PDF (and not to SWF or EXE), you'll get a multimedia PDF (in which a SWF can play) but in that case the user really do need the Adobe Reader 9, previous versions do not support multimedia PDF.

  • Adobe Captiavte 5.5 Published files getting Blurr :(

      Hi All,
I have gone through almost every post related to this topic but unfortunately was not satisfied . I also know that I may have not understood the method /steps correctly, to improve the published files quality.
Now coming back to the question, my problem is that whenever I design any project in captivate 5.5 (liscence version) and try to view the published the file through the HTML page; my captivate file looks blur (refer attachment 1.jpg), BUT if I launch the published .swf file it looks crystal clear. (refer attachment 2.jpg).
This makes me upset, coz I have done all the recommended settings (as per read in the adobe forum) in my captivate source (.ctpx) file. Below is
the setting which m using before publishing the file:-
    1. I have kept the swf size and quality as High (Preferences > Projects > Swf Size and Quality > High) also the checkbox is kept unchecked for compress full motion recording SWF file option.
    2. I have kept the slide quality as High in Properties tab. ( Properties > General > Quality > High(24-bit)).
    3. I have not used any borders in the project (Windows > Skin Editor > Borders), and also the checkbox is kept unchecked for Show Borders.
Secondly, I have also observed that if I use TOC than my project looks clear when I view the project via the HTML file and if I do not use TOC the file gets blur when I view it in HTML file. (refer attachment 3.jpg).
Please let me know where I am going wrong while publishing the captivate project.
Awaiting for the reply as earliest as possible,
Thank You in advance, for your inputs on this topic '

    Hello RodWard,
Thank You for your update. I cross checked the project on other browser like Firefox and it is looking very clear in Firefox. So now we can confidently say it's a browser issue. But unfortunately, we (my company) are bound to use IE as our browser (due to company policy).
Can’t we do some settings in order to get this resolved in IE? Do you have any idea how can we overcome this issue in IE?

  • Client can't publish files with 4.0

I'll first start by saying that my client has been happily
editing and publishing files since February. Recently, she was on
vacation so I made a couple of minor updates using Dreamweaver. Now
she's back, and is no longer able to publish. I'm not sure it's
    related. The error message is:
"Contribute encountered a network or file system error.
Please try the operation again, and contact the administrator if
    the error continues to occur."
The problem started yesterday, but briefly corrected itself.
Now she can't publish at all. I have asked her to go step-by-step
through the process of editing files and I can see the following
    activity on the server:
-- She opens the file (index.html) and the following file
    appears on the server: index.html.LCK
-- She hits "publish" and the following file appears on the
    server: index.html.new
-- Then the error message appears for her.
When she closes the page, the index.html.LCK page disappears,
    but the index.html.new sticks around.
Interestingly, the .new file is 0k.
We turned on I/O logging, but all it does is confirm that the
PUT isn't happening. However, there are lots of complaints about
missing files on the local drive. They run Active Directory on
their network, and I'm curious if there could be some kind of
mapping problem with their user settings directories, and
Contribute is getting hung up when it tries to PUT the changes.
I'd appreciate any help troubleshooting this issue or any
tips before I call Adobe. :)
    Thanks!

I am also facing tghe same problem today. I cannot believe I
was unable to find a single help on this. i've been trying many of
the options but things are getting worse and worse. Now I can't
publish from Dreamweaver and Contribute also!! Why Adobe doesn't
support the ones who upgrade their software?

I got new hard driver for my MacBook I don't have the cd but I do have flash drive that has the software I need help because when I turn on my laptop it shows me a file with question mark how can I install the software from the flash driver?

Hold down the Option key while you boot your Mac. Then, it should show you a selection of devices. Click your flash drive and it will boot from that.

  • Open Another Project - how do I set up the published files?

I created a Menu project that launches (via buttons) two other projects. Each of these other projects has a button to return to the Menu. I copied the published set of files to each of the Callees folders. So, Menu\Callees has Run 1 and Run 2 folders (all the published files) Run 1 and Run 2\Callees each have Menu folder with all the published files. Menu launches Run 1 and Run 2 fine but the Menu button on Run 1 and 2 works once, then I get this:
No webpage was found for the web address:file:///C:/Users/Jeff/Documents/My%20Adobe%20Captivate%20Projects/menu%20test/Menu/callees /Run_1/callees/Menu/callees/Run_1/callees/Menu/index.html
Anyone have a simple explanation for how I should be setting up the published files?
    Thanks so much,
    Jeff

    Thanks Rob,
Would running these from a web server resolve the file location problem I asked about? I tested the SWF version on my HD and got a similar error message (this time looking in the root directory, not the callees folder.) Can you point me to a reference re: how to set up files when running another project?
    Thanks,
    Jeff
