Putting 30 fps clip in a 24 fps sequence

I want to drop in some iPad footage to add to a sequence that is all Canon 5D 24fps footage.
The iPad footage is playing slightly choppy. I assume it records in 30fps so the frame rate is off the rest of the footage and the sequence. Everytime I move that footage I have to render too. I'm pretty much locked on picture now though. Shoud I just continue with it like that and it will work it out on the output or would it be better to pre-compress the iPad footage before I put it in the timeline to match the frame rate of the rest of the footage?

Are you guys related? Same issue.
So you copied your sequence, made a new one with 23.98 settings, pasted it and the transtions vanish, and there are gaps? That is the oddest thing I have ever heard.
As to what Pat said...about rendering. When you edited the 29.97 timeline, did you have to render each clip as you added it to the timeline?

  • Sound import to 25 fps sequence is always out of sync and need rendering!!!

Anyone know why an aif sound file from Pro Tools imported to 25 fps sequence is always out of sync and needs rendering? It is like FCP is converting it to another freq. when it is 48k already! I do this all the time with NTSC and 23.98 projects, what is up with the 25 frame seq.??
    Thanks, Mark

Your audio files must be 48,000 kHz AIFF files if you want to use them in Final Cut Pro.
If the originals are coming from CD's they are 44,100 kHz.
Resample in Soundtrack Pro or convert in QuickTime Player.
Your location says you are in LA. Why are you working in in PAL?
I know that things need to be at 48K this would not matter anyway if it was 44.1 FCP would do the conversion and not make it out of sync in an NTSC Timeline, but a PAL timeline FCP screws with the sound file. The files came from pro Tools, the industry standard should mixing.
I put them through Sound Track Pro and it did not help.

  • How do you put a video clip in the corner of a picture

I have already replaced the video with the picture and detached the audio. I am trying to put the video clip in the corner of the picture.

Yeah... I have some question for the iMovie version for MacBook Pro and the iMac on the iMovie for OS X forum. I found some of my answers here:

  • How Can I put A quicktime clip into keynote??

    Two Questions,
    One:
How Can I put a "get a mac" commercial into keynote. (Like how do i download it and how do i put it in)
    Two:
If I download a quick time clip (say, pirates of the Caribbean 2 commercial) How can I insert it into keynote??
    Zach

You can put a QuickTime clip on a Keynote slide just by dragging the movie file onto the slide. If the clip is in your Movies folder in your home directory, you can also use the Media browser to insert it. Finally, you can use the Insert menu, and use the Choose... item to pick the file.
To grab one of the "Get a Mac" ads, go to the ad page. Hover your cursor over the thumbnail of the ad, hold down the Control key, and click and hold the mouse button to pop up the contextual menu. Choose "Download Linked File", and the file should be saved to your hard drive.

  • Aim trying to put 2 audio clips together and you can hear the unnatural break. Is there a transition I can insert to cover it. Kind if like we do with video?

aim trying to put 2 audio clips together and you can hear the unnatural break. Is there a transition I can insert to cover it up. Kind of like we do with video clips? Like an overlay? Thank you

You could put the two clips on two different tracks with a slide overlap and fade the first clip out out and the second clip in.
Or trim both clips in a way, that the first clip ens with silence and the second clip starts with silence.

  • 30 fps shot into 24 fps sequence w/out frame removal

I want to cut a 30 fps shot into my 24 fps sequence, but I don't want to lose any frames. Instead, I'm prepared to have the shot play at 80% speed (24/30 = .8). But I can't figure out how to do this. If I simply cut the shot into the sequence frames get lost. How would I go about this?
    Thanks, Martin

Well, that is a viable option for DVCPRO HD footage that is 59.94 that you want to convert to 23.98 slow motion. It transfers frame for frame and slows it down. But, because of the results you got, I think that might be behavior limited to DVCPRO HD.
Then I don't know what you can use. After Effects perhaps?

In fcpX....how can I put an IN and OUT points in my sequence and after export a movie???

You can't. You can't export part of a sequence. Duplicate it and remove the bits you don't want to export from the duplicate.

  • Pulling 29.97 fps content for use in 25 fps sequence

    Gidday
I am trying to pull material at 29.97 fps out of a DVD (those VOB files) for use in FCE at 25 fps. I've been using MPEG Streamclip. The material comes out all jerky when i put it in FCE. How can i fix this?

Sounds to me like you are trying to convert NTSC to PAL??
You need a video standards conversion to do it right. Software or hardware solutions are available.

  • Please Fix FPS sequence bug in Premiere !

every time you move a folder with a project or for example you copy a project into a hard drive to work in another computer all image sequence FPS changes to original frame rate instead what FPS you choose to assume.
    To replicate the error:
    in a mac OSX
in finder prepare a folder with an image sequence
    1) create a project, with a PAL Timeline,
    2) insert a image sequence, modify the intepretation FPS to "assume this frame rate" change it to 25 or something different from the original FPS
    3) drag and drop the sequence into the timeline
    4) save and quit
    5) Copy the folder containing the project and the sequence to an external hard drive
    6) open the project in another computer.
you will notice that the FPS interpretation has changed to the "use frame rate from file" instead the "assume this frame rate" option
this is easy to fix when it's only one clip, but when you are doing huge edits with some differents Frame rates on same timeline, (especially intrepreting 60fps to 30fps) it's a really painful bug
    Adobe premiere Ver 7.2.1(4)

    Hi Mariano,
I know this is fixed in Premiere Pro CC 7.2.1 for standard video clips. However, I'm not sure how it affects image sequences. Please file a bug. In the mean time, you could have this option if you convert your image sequences to video files.
    Thanks,

  • 24p to a 30 fps sequence conversion

    24P to 1080i/30fps
Hello everyone. I am trying to combine footage shot on the SDX 900 at 24p with footage shot on the HPX 500 at 1080i/30fps
    My sequence is 30 fps.
The 24p looks jerky & I am not sure what to do.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Regards
    Bonnie

So you are mixing SD and HD in the same sequence.
The SDX 900 shot at 24P actually prints to tape at 29.97 inserting a 2:3 pulldown for a "Film Look"
Depending on how it was captured it is natively 720x480 interlaced at 29.97 and will have a judder to the footage due to shooting format. The HPX shot at 1080i30 will be native 1080 x 1440 at 29.97 fps with no pulldown.
If you have access to a Kona capable of upconversion or MatroxMXO2 you can upconvert the SDX footage to 1080 on input and maintain a DVCProHD1080i 29.97 codec. It upconverts quite nicely however it will still have a 2:3 puldown. If you don't have access to a capture card upconvert you could drop in your selects from the SD footage into compressor and convert via software to dvcProHD 1080i with a 29.97 timebase

  • How do I put together all clips? (MPEG Streamclip)

I put in a film in my computer from my Sony DCR-SR55E video camera that is in MPG.
(It is filmed on a two weeks vacation and is in 1172 files, each clip in one file you know.)
I have tried to make all clips into one in MPEG Streamclip but then it gets strange, all of a sudden it is too fast in some places of the film and the audio is out of sync.
Is the settings in MPEG Streamclip wrong?
I choose Export to QuickTime … and dosen’t do anything else, it looks like this:
    http://img703.imageshack.us/img703/425/exportn.png
    Or what should I do?

The DCR-SR55E records standard def 4:3 MPEG2 video.  In MPEG Streamclip you should convert the clips to QuickTime, selecting the Apple DV/DVCPRO PAL codec (compression) and the DV-PAL frame size.  (Assuming your camera is a PAL camcorder.)  In FCE select the DV PAL easy setup before importing the converted video.
The camera also has a 16:9 mode but it is not clear from the DCR-SR55E specifications whether that is anamorphic DV or simply cropped DV to make it look as if it is 16:9.  If you used 16:9 mode you will have to do some experimenting to see what frame size settings work best in MPEG Streamclip when you convert the video.
Do not use the Apple Motion JPEG codec - it is totally the wrong codec to use.

  • How to let Premiere or Audition put Extracted audio clips into a desired folder when clicking "Edit clips in Audition"?

I recently did Volume Match for entire feature film dialogue clips, what happened is I found lots of extracted audio clips scattered around in my Media hard disk, luckily I only have one Hard disk for all media, I look it in Preferences in both Premiere and Audition, there is no such setting to put all extracted audio clips in one designated folder.  Anyone has any solution to that?

When I send a Premiere sequence to Audition it makes a subfolder with the same name as the Premiere sequence I sent from automatically. All I have to do is specify a path before I hit OK. If you are sending one clip at a time it seems to save that extract next to the Premiere project file.

  • How can I convert my 25 fps sequence to 23.98 sequence

Believe it or not I've been editing footage shot at 23.98 into a 25 frame rate sequence.  Please don't ask how.
The graphics company is creating their stuff at 23.98 (understandably.)
Now I would like to convert my sequence to 23.98 so that there are no more problems down the road.
I've tried copying from the 25 sequence into a 23.98 sequence, but all the cuts end of screwed up and way off from what I edited.
    Help?

    Thanks Shane,
So here is the sad story.  There was never a red render bar, everything was green and editing like a charm.  Also, the first thing copied into the sequence was a title at 25 fps. So I was not alerted to the issue of the sequence not matching the video.  Then when subsequent sequences were made it just kept going and going until we got a call from the graphics company.  Doh!  Luckily we were only 13 minutes in.

  • How can I put transitions btw clips that both use green screen?

Seems that when I drop the transition between the clips (between the backgrounds -- it won't let me drop the transition between the videos shot with the green screen), it then pushes the green screened video clips together, and the transition doesn't play at all!

iMovie does all rendering in one pass. This effect would require a nested render, which FCP excels at.
If you want to do this in iMovie, do the first green screen clip. Share it using Export Using QuickTime in Apple Intermediatae Codec. Do the same with the second green screen clip. Then import both clips into an iMovie event. Now you can drag both these clips into a project and put a transition between them.
