Px4-300d, no gui access, stuck 95%, lost shares, unstable

Hello,
i'm having a TON of issues with a px4-300d unit with 2x1tb drives:
1) with sw 4.0 (cant remmber the exact subversion) webgui stops responding after random days, but otherwise unit still is accesible
2) snapshots simply stopped working(generated) months ago when webgui stopped working, last ones are from september, in fact one of the snapshots made itself into a public share!
3) yesterday afternoon uniot could not be accessed anymore, after a powercylce it gets stuck in 95%, following another thread i removed disk 1 and it booted, but it lost ALL shares(in webgui, if you go to shares it stays there for a minute then empty) but i can see the volumes in the disk management.
Powercycled then readded drive 1, booted ok started rebuilding, same, no shares.
upgraded to 4.1.104.31360, i completed setup wizard yet status keeps telling me i need to complete setup :/.
Shares are STILL empty AND i have no "add" button or anything, it just stays there.
Checked drive status there's no smart failure or reallocs, dmesg also is not showing any particular error.
now it's rebuilding the array but i have no way to create shares or anything else
This is a RMAed unit from february 2014(prev unit failed similar to this one, but instead of losing the shares, it lost all DATA inside them, after debugging it turns the internal usb flash drive was corrupted).
OFC the unit is now out of warranty...
All in all so far it's more reliable to put data on a floppy drive than on this unit, it fails in the most basic of functions which is to safely keep data, confidence in this model unit is zero

Wesley,
it's raid 1
i checked it in the support log package for smartctl
188 is not present, the other 2 values are at zero on both drives.
Drives are Hitachi Ultrastar A7K2000 (the ones that came with the nas itself).
After the reconstruction is complete i did a fs check and rebooted, shares ae definititely still gone but i can't create new ones!
when i press the create shaes it stays there in "waiting" for a minute then the share dialogs apear, i select the volume i want and create a "test" share then the gui stopped responding, i reopened it, went to shares, nothing, create new share "test" and it tells me "A Share already exists with the name 'test'." Yet nothing is there and if i browse via SMB or FTP nothing is there
i need to fix this urgently!

  • Px4-300d stuck on boot 75% - HELP!!!

    Hello all,
Yesterday I upgrade the NAS to the latest firmware: Firmware Version 4.1.104.31360 for px4-300d
Today, I've noticed that the network into the NAS is really slow and the NAS was stuck. I did a hard reset and now the NAS is stuck on 75% for almost an hour and it is also not accesiable via the network.
Is there way to overcome this issue? I have lots of data inside without any backup plan behind.
    Thx,
    Arix

    Hi there,
    I wish I could help.
Unfortunatelly, I never had this file. no one provided it for me. only the local service center took care for this problem by restoring the firmware. they refused to give it to me.
If you do get it, it would be great if you can share it. (in case we would have this problem again).
    Cheers,

  • Iomega StorCenter px4-300d share access

Hey guys! I'm having an issue with an iomega StorCenter px4-300d. Recently a contractor remoted in and changed our domain controllers so I ended up doing a network reset on our 2 iomega NAS. The first one behaved in a completely logical fashion and through some trial and error I have it reset as it was before. The second one however is being rather illogical. I have reattached it to the domain and set up share permissions, however users who have been given permission to the shares are unable to access them on this device. The only way I've been able to get to files is to access them through the web interface, but that doesn't lend itself well to managing the data in the shares.  I have rebooted both the NAS and my laptop several times, as we have encountered this issue in the past, but usually a reboot of the NAS or the users PC clears it up.  Has anyone else encountered this? Any recommendations on the course I should follow? Edit: This is wierd all of a sudden it started letting people into shares. Any recommendations you have would still be great, since it isn't really behaving in a consistent manner.

    Hello HCH_Allegro
Is the primary unit showing any drive/storage alerts in the system status page or in the event log?
Do you have media server enabled in the primary unit's web interface?  If so, try disabling the feature restart the unit and then try accessing having the remote unit connect the cloud.
Also with the cloud edition devices there are both the Remote Access and Personal Cloud options.  If you are trying to have both enabled at the same time it can cause problems like you have been experiencing.  Currently Remote Access is no longer online via TZO(DYN), so personal cloud should be the only remote option enabled.

  • Unable to enable security and create admin user after reset - px4-300d

Our px4-300d became inaccessible a few days ago.  I couldn't get to any shares from any machine, and I couldn't get to the admin console.  When I checked the unit, there was no indication that anything was wrong (ie - the panel didn't show any failure, I didn't get any emails indicating a failure, and there were no lights offering a clue to what was wrong).  However the unit was completely frozen...the buttons on the front would not scroll through the different information on the panel.
I attempted to reset the device using the pinhole on the back, but the device wouldn't respond, so I had to power it down using the button on the front.  When I tried to power it back up, it would come on for about one second, then immediately power off.  I pulled all 4 drives out and powered it on again without any drives.  This time it came up completely and I got a message on the panel that drives were missing.  I started putting the drives in one at a time and the device recognized them all and I was able to login to the admin console.  However, all the shares were missing and I received an email that the Storage Pool was degraded.  I rebooted the device from the admin console and when it came back up, it started reconstruction.  After a few hours, it completed, but I still had no shares and couldn't create any new shares.  I also did not see any of my users, including the admin account I was logged in with.  I tried to create a new user, and also tried creating a user I knew existed and neither one worked.  The screen would just flash but nothing would show up.  At this point, I decided to try to reset using the pinhole on the back of the device to reset the admin user so I could just create a new one.  So, now I'm stuck at the 'Enable Security' screen.  Every time I try to create an admin account, it just flashes and returns me to the same 'Enable Security' window.
    Now what?
    Solved!

If you are unable to get into it you will not be able to do the factory reset. You can try booting in buy removing one disk at a time. If you are still unable to then tech support should be able to supply you with the imager and try flashing it. I would keep it at 4.0.8 also,

  • Px4-300d empty shares after rstart

    Hello,
i'm having a MAJOR issue with a PX4-300D unit in which all shares ARE EMPTY.
unit has been working nonstop for 2 weeks, already running latest 4.0.6.19294.
It has 2 volumes, each one with different shares(and different snapshot).
I needed to add an extra share so i try to open the management web and i get a "you do not have permission to browse /, use /manage" so i use /manage, different error this time "resource does not exist", files and shares remain perfectly accesible, front panel is "all blue", no alerts on LCD, nothing.
I decide to reboot the unit then, ~15min later it's still shutting down...., so i force a shutdown.
After starting, i can access the management web ok, event log shows snapshots being created and then a weird "unit has been removed from the system" on 31/1 and then the shutdown restart today.
I also removed mcafee app as it requires security and it's not desirable right now.
THEN when i opened the shares, THEY'RE EMPTY!!!!!!!!!!!.
the snapshots also stop at the 31 and only for one volume(the other isn't showing anything), if i try to expose a snapshot for everyone(as a share), it doesn't appears when browsing the machine!!!(but appears as a share on the share list).
checking with SSH i can see the share on the 2nd volume on mnt/volumes and the contents appear ok(haven't copied them to double check), but the other folder are all empty
i need to recover these files at all cost, the data is extremely important!(i'm working with support as well but time is of utmost importance)

    Hi Mastsrl,
Unfortunately, there are only a few options in this situation. If support cannot rebuild the RAID and get the data back using SSH then you will need to have a data recovery service retrieve the data. It is important to have your data backed up to multiple locations in case situations like these occur.

  • Px4-300d shuts down/powers off while on UPS battery, regardless of remaining battery level

Upon line power failure, the UPS is instantly available to supply power to the px4-300d.  The UPS is adequately sized to provide well over an hour of runtime during a power failure.  The only way to have caching operate is to have a UPS connected.  With the UPS connected, the NAS sees the UPS, the current power condition, and an accurate battery power level (%).  Once the power fails, the unit begins its shutdown process and completes gracefully, even though the remaining power in the UPS battery is still near 100%.  The whole point of having UPS backup is to keep the device running for as long as possible during a power failure, and then to gracefully shut-down the device should the UPS battery level reach a critical level and line-power still not restored.  This is MANDATORY to be addressed in the next firmware release, or provide access to a configuration file that specifies the battery level percentage which triggers a shutdown.  Why choose this "Enterprise Quality" storage solution if during a power outage it shuts itself down while everything else is still operating?  Makes absolutely no sense.
    Solved!

    Hi easy-e,
What is the firmware version on your device currently?
LifeLine-based network storage devices should remain up and running normally using only UPS battery power until the UPS reports remaining battery is less than 3 minutes or below 5%. At his point, device shutdown will be triggered and your network storage device will gracefully shut down.
Have you checked to make sure it is compatible?:
What Universal Power Supply (UPS) models are compatible with my ix or px network device?
APC UPS not working with network storage device
If it is not shutting down properly, I would suggest contacting technical support to see if they can troubleshoot the cause of this problem.

  • Px4-300d copy job setup problem. Firmware version 4.1.108.32627

    Hello.
I have a wierd problem with copy job setup on my  px4-300d (4.1.108.32627) . I was able to set up one job, where I take a folder from my NAS and put it to a remote machine. That job ran fine.
When I go to setup a similar job but for a different folder, I have two possible outcomes:
    1. When I go to chose the remote folder I see it fine and the job is setup fine as well. However when I run the job it throws an error. And in the log I see that instead of going to the folder I setup like "\\remoteserver\backupfolder" it's going to "\\remoteserver\u_myremoteserverusername\backupfolder" , which is obviously not there.
    2. I can see my remote server, but I don't see my shares on it. I don't get no "Access denied" error or anything - I simply don't see any shares on that particular server. I do see shares on other servers, which use the same credentials. In addition the job that I was able to set up previously stops working.
Then when I reboot, the first job (the one setup successfully) may or may not properly run, yet I still cannot set up the second job.
I did check permissions and all the stuff that you would regularly check (connectivity, ports etc). Seems to me the script that is being generated from the UI is a bit too smart and is in fact outsmarting the NAs itself.
I also suspect that the fact that I could set up the first job and not the second is that the second job goes to a subfolder of a shared folder. Or that the shared folder's name starts with an underscore "_" . But these are just my guesses - I cannot verify this yet.
Any ideas how to fix this or how to bypass the problem?
    Thanks.

    Hello fimine
I recommend double checking that the remote server's folders that are not being seen by the px4 are infact shared from that remote machine.  If they are not, copy jobs will have problems accessing the folders.
I also recommend trying to use the remote machine's ip address for now to see if there is any change in behavior.
If the issue does not happen when using the ip address, it my be an issue with how your network's DNS is setup.

  • Px4-300d port forward iptables 50000- https

Hello. I've searched for similar problems but they weren't exactly the same.
I now need to open a https connection to my px4-300d to share folders to specific users.
I already open a portforward to SSH connection which is working fine.
    ssh my.ip -p 50001 gets me to mynas.internal.ip:22
I've created a similar rule on port 50000 to port 443, and it starts to connect. I get the certificate out of date error, but then the connections just hangs there on an empty page.
On wireshark I can't see much more, only that my router/pc starts the TLSv1 session, but right after it sends a [FIN, ACK]
    Any ideas please?
    Thanks and regards.

That is not fully true. Once you know the external ip adress of your network you can access your device both via https and ftp. eg.g. https://<external-ip> or ftp://<user-name>:<user-password>@<external-ip>.
(have not checked if this is true when cloud has never set up)
Bearing this in mind you can configure your router to use an own dyn-service with same portforwarding rules as with the cloud..........

    Hello renald
I'm pretty sure that these unit's do support IPv6, however I will be checking with a higher support group to see if anything specifics that would need to be followed.   Once I have an update I'll update the thread.
***IPv6 is not supported on the Lifeline firmware, see post below***

  • PX4-300D blocked 95%

    Hi,
Yesterday I switched on the PX4-300D and it was blocked starting up at 95%. I don't have access to the web page and I can't do anything.
I shutted down pressing the power button for a long time and I restarted it but it keeps at 95%
I have sent an email to the support contact but I haven't receive an answer.
    What can I do?
    Thanks.

    Hello danijoint
Usually devices hanging at 95% boot is due to a firmware or disk error.
I recommend that you try the following:
-- power off th unit, re-seat all disks, then try booting again.
-- If you were receiving an error for a specific disk before this began, please remove the disk and try booting without it.
-- try swapping disk 1 with one of the other disks in the unit while powered down. Then try booting again.
-- If the above does not work, you can try disk/bay isolation by trying to boot the unit each disk one at a time, we recommend trying each disk in each bay.
-- If there is still no change, try booting the unit without disks to see if the unit can boot on it's own as it should.
Please contact support if there is not change or if it can't boot on it's own.

  • PX4-300D does not recognize APC Back-UPS GS 500 (BG500)

I have one of APC's newer Lithium battery based UPS (BG500) - when connected to my Win7 PC via the included USB cable it is instantly recgonized as an UPS by Windows but when I plug the USB cable into my PX4-300D it is not detected.
Older APC UPS models are detected fine by the PX4-300D so there is nothing wrong with the PX4-300D
Are there any plans to support this APC UPS model?

    Hello TheOtherPete
All Iomega / LenovoEMC LifeLine devices use the USBHID-UPS driver.  From what I have been able to locate so far, as APC does not seem to have released documentation on the unit in question yet, it seems the BG500 works with the snmp-ups driver.
There seems to be similar reports from other Linux NAS and computer users regarding this APC model.  At this time I recommend contacting APC to confirm what the unit's supported driver actually is and if USBHID-UPS driver support could be added.
At this time I have not heard of any changes being made to add other ups driver support.
I recommend checking here to locate a UPS that uses the USBHID-UPS driver.

  • Px4-300d unstable/unreliable

    Hello,
i'm having all sorts of issues with px4-300d units that essentially render them not usable for any kind of business data.
first unit, after bveing powered on for a month or so wouldn't open the web management anymore, after trying to shut it down, it hangs on the shutdown, after forcing it off it lost ALL DATA (had to recover the data with a file recovery tool out of the raw drives).
The unit got RMAed as the dfiag logs where showing errors on the internal flash drive.
now i got a replacement, but it's also unstable, after some days of being powered up, if you try to shut it down, it simply HANGS with the powerdown icon on the LCD.
i can't delete volumes either, it says "Unable to update the requested settings."!!, and it was only filled with TEST DATA with some snapshots, i cant even delete the storage pool as it tries to delete the volume and it fails with same message!.
all with LATEST firmware installed, i even did a factory reset on arrival of the RMA unit
so far these units have proven to be horribly unreliable and i cant trust customer data in them if they self destruct like this

You did not mention, what lenovo / iomega support replied to your case when raising a telephon / mail support request. This behaviour definitely needs a support ticket and should not be run by the forum. Assuming your new box is still under warranty it should be easy to receive a replacement..........
OOps .. overseen that you already received a new unit. Suggest you rerun the case with the replacement unit. Sometimes it needs two tries.

I'm sorry, I thought you already had a spare drive available. If you bought your device a year ago and registered it, then it should still be in warranty. Or if you have the original purchase receipt, they will be able to update your warranty and replace the hard drive for you per the warranty.
You might have to shut down the device when you replace the hard drive (I would shut the device down anyway to avoid further problems and data loss). Your data should still be there as long as no other drives fail. If you need to do data recovery on the hard drives, you can connect them to a Linux based device that will be able to read from the drives and retrieve the data.
