QT Screen Recording made weird sounds

Earlier today, I tried to  make a screen recording with QT. When I clicked on the Start button, my computer began to make a very strange series of weird electronic "Outer Limits"-like sounds. It happened twice, but hasn't happened again. I was running Adobe Indesign, Mac Mail, and TimeMachine and Sophos Anti-Virus in the background at the time. I have the latest Yosemite release and a Dec 2012 27" iMac. Does anyone know what this might be?
I wanted to attach a screen movie but the Insert Video button is grayed out. Kinda ironic on a QuickTime forum.

Access to an expert will usually be better than using Support Communities, or course.
It's extremely unlikely that you have a virus. However, unexplainable noises are worth investigating. First, keep a written log so you can document when you noticed an issue; describe the problem, and when it happened. Next, make sure you regularly back up your data on an external drive.
The sound hear might be the fan, but it's hard to tell without more information.

  • Speaker made weird sound, volume level is now decreased

I was watching a video clip online when all of a sudden there was this weird noise (kind of sounded like the sound of dial-up internet connecting, except on steroids). It only lasted for about a second but then I noticed the volume on the video clip I was currently watching got significantly lower.
Now I can't have my volume level any lower than 40% because I can barely hear anything when it is lower. Even when I press the F4, F5 function to lower and raise volume, I don't hear the traditional "pop" sound effect until around 40% or higher.
I tried playing music on my itunes, and audio drops when I am lower than around 30% maximum capacity. Anyone have an idea of what the problem is?

Double click to bring up recent app bar-scroll to the left until you see playback controls/screen brightness.
Do you see the speaker icon?
Is it muted(line through the icon)?
Is the volume slider turned up?
    Have you tried a reset?

  • Add sound to a quicktime screen recording

How do I go about doing this? And can I choose between the sound that is internal and external to the computer (i.e. selecting to use my voice instead of internet or computer audio)?

You already have good suggestions for changing the audio source during recording.
If you mean how to add or change sound to a screen recording that already has been made,
you can import the clip into iMovie and do it it there.
Rather than import to iMovie, I use QuickTime Pro on simple projects:

  • Sound-Quicktime Player (Screen Recording)

I'm trying to screen record a football play off ESPN3.  Once I do the actual recording, I cannot hear the sound from the game clip.  Any suggestions why?
My Mac is 10.7.5 and the version of QTP is 10.1 (501.29).
    Thanks in advance!

I can't help but wonder why they even botherd making the video recording software if they diidn't include audio .
I tend to consider such features add-ons because to appeal to novice users because the features are incomplete as far as functonality is concerned or too dependent on the CPU power of the platform on which it is used. This is why I tend to use dedicated import and/or screen capture applications. Normally, I would recommend using an app like Snapz Pro X from Ambrosia ($69) but they too are having problems updating or replacing their audio "kernel extension" following system audio changes made in the Lion OS release. ScreenFlow ($99) is another good screen capture app but it includes a number of editing features that many users do not want or for which they are not willing to pay such a high price. I personally amd looking at what, for me, is a new app listed in an article URL posted by QTKirk. The app is called Screenflick and lists for $29. I am interested in it because they claim you can tap into user events like key presses (e.g., use of keyboart shortcuts) and highlight/include them in your captures. (I.e., this would be very handy for the makie of "quickie" tutorials.) In any event, I have not tried this app so I can't yet recommend it based on personal use... but it might be worthing looking at if you plan to purchase such a utility. (And yes, it does claim to support the audio capture of both system audio and/or a user selectable mic source.)

You should take it to an Apple store or an AASP (Authorized Apple Service Provider) Carefully inspect the hinge joint and make sure there is no debris that you can see, you can try carefully sliding some sticky tape thru the joint to clear any loose stuff out. But this sounds like there might be more going on here, and the hinge is something that you do not want to fool with.

  • Screen Recording - no sound

    Hi all,
When I attempt to make a screen recording, the saved recording doesn't have any sound. I have confirmed that both my built-in microphone and an external mic were bringing sound into the system while the screen recording was happening -- I had the Sound menu of System Preferences open during the screen recording to confirm.
So why is no sound recorded in the screen recording?

Disregard the above message! I found the mic preferences in the screen recording window. Sorry!

  • Weird sound during playback of recorded track

hey guys, how are you all doing?
so i got a new pc rig, which is quite fast, and have started using adobe audition for recording purposes.
    i use a soundblaster audigy 2 soundcard
when i record one track and then play it, theres a weird sound at around 25 seconds which becomes louder and then stops suddenly. it also creates a delay if i'm recording multiple tracks. here's a sound clip of the noise:
    http://www.savefile.com/files/2151778
please tell me how to fix it.
    any help would be appreciated

    Thanks.
I found a solution which works at least between 50 bpm and 177 bpm:
Add a volume fader. Connect the output of the volume fader to the input of the tempo fader and set the input of the tempo fader to volume, then record the volume fader. Moving the volume fader moves also the tempo fader and changes the tempo.
During play back, the volume fader reads the recorded automation data and updates the tempo fader in real-time and the tempo of the song is changed.
For this you don't have to activate tempo recording in the project settings and the possibilities to graphically edit automation data are also better.
Additionally you can add varispeed to set the speed range from 25 - 88,5 bpm up to 100 - 354 bpm.

  • Screen Recording + Sound

    Hello all,
I'd love to know which software(s) are most suitable for recording screen actions with the inclusion of sound for voice illustrations on my iMac, in order to make video tutorials and other media with my computer. Or if my iMac itself comes with a default action for that.
    Thanks.

Quick Time Player, is the one, open it click File click New Screen Recording then click the little dropdown arrow you will see some settings, a good setting for tutorials is Show Mouse Clicks in Recording

And pin wheel started after 3 to 4 mins., went to black screen with error messages. Rebooted 5x, shot off power source, disconnected external devices... Now won't go past pinwheel... Since it does not go to black screen, I cannot convey error messages... Please advise what I could try... Thank you... I have an iMac 2009... Upgrade operating system to new system this spring... It is guitardad's again... I read past topics on this issue... As I am not overly computer savvy, I want to be careful that I don't mess things up further... Of course the extended warranty is done... There is talk about booting from the system disc...  I'm not sure if this is the first thing to do or not... Can the support community, advise me on what logical steps I should take ( in order) or direct me to a website and/ or you tube video that walks one safely through the processes... Once again thank you for reading and offering your advice... I am on fixed $$$ so I'm trying to avoid calling apple, unless I have no options and/or the suggestions do not resolve the issues... Tx again Don.

  • Quicktime player screen recording prefs

    Hi,
Since the upgrade to Mavericks I noticed the screen recording file size has increased by a factor of at least 5.
In the Lion, I had the option to set the Quality from High to Medium, that option is missing now from the Screen Recording drop down options.
Looking at previous screen captures, I saw it used about 2.5 FPS, whereas now it uses about 60 FPS. That is most probably what's making the file size so big.
Is there any way to tweak those options, especially FPS but also the Sound (I need Mono and the default is Stereo).
    Thanks,
    Adrian

  • QuickTime X - Screen recording - can't import into FCP 7.0

Well, the title pretty much says it all.
I upgraded to Snow Leopard on my MacBookPro 2.4GHzCore2Duo4GB RAM. No problems.
I ran the new QuickTime X and made a short screen recording. Saved to desktop; I get a .mov file.
Ran Final Cut Pro 7.0 after recently upgrading to FCS 3, tried to import the screen recording, get error message "File error: unknown file."
    What's up?
The file can be read by iMovie '09, by the way - not that I would ever use that software.

Man, I'm wishing it were THAT easy.
I'm needing to do this exact workflow, and still can't find a way to make FCP happy.
    ATTEMPT #1:
First, I used QT X to make a two-minute Screen Recording. It creates a file called "Screen Recording.mov" in the Movies folder, with the file's dimensions being the same as my 23" Cinema Display (1920x1200). As we already know -- even though "Get Info" describes this file as simply a "QuickTime movie" using Apple's H.264 codec, something YOU'D THINK would be perfectly compatible with APPLE's flagship professional editing program -- it's not.
"File Error: 1 file(s) recognized, 0 access denied, 1 unknown. OK"
    ATTEMPT #2:
So I quit the new QuickTime, and open the "Screen Recording.mov" file in QT7. I select "Export...", and I go with the default "Movie to QuickTime movie" option (which seems redundant, but the other choices in the pull down list don't look all that appropriate). I give the about-to-be-created new file a revised name, and then QuickTime7 chugs away for several minutes, converting the QuickTime movie QuickTime X created into a QuickTime7 QuickTime movie which hopefully the QuickTime-based FinalCutPro editing program will be gracious enough to import.
I really hope someone at Apple is taking note of how absurd this all sounds. And that would be okay, if when I then tried to Import this new QuickTime file into FinalCutPro 7, I didn't get the EXACT SAME (and typically unhelpful and uninformative) error message:
"File Error: 1 file(s) recognized, 0 access denied, 1 unknown. OK"
    ATTEMPT #3:
Okay -- an "editable codec". So I once again open the "Screen Recording.mov" file in QT7. I select "Export...", but this time I click on "Options...", then "Settings...", and then for "Compression Type", I select Apple ProRes 422. Hey, that's gotta work, right? It's ProRes -- by Apple. The new codec in which everything's supposed to play together nicely. Why the Timeline I've currently got open is even ProRes422.
So imagine my delight when I try to Import this latest version of the file (now inflated from 140MB to 1.2GB -- but hey, at least it's gonna work)...
"File Error: 1 file(s) recognized, 0 access denied, 1 unknown. OK"
Well no, it's not OK. And when FCP finally gets the top-to-bottom, under-the-hood AND interface overhaul this one-foot-still-stuck-in-OS9 app so desperately needs, maybe it will at least provide HELPFUL error messages, something like: "Sorry -- this file can't be imported because xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx. You can use xxxxxxxxxxxxxx to convert its xxxxxxxxx setting to the required xxxxxxx, or you can try xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx in a new Timeline."
(And yes, I am a regular contributor to "Apple Feedback".)
Alright, venting finished. Would now be hugely grateful if someone could translate Apple's cryptic "-- 1 file(s) recognized --" error message into a real-world way to make what should be a straightforward process actually work: just save a simple screen recording, and then use that screen recording in a Final Cut project?
    Thank you!

  • Weird sound coming from above F1-F3 keys - locks computer up

I just got my MacBook Pro back from Apple and they did not fix the problem below (although, they fixed a number of small things, thankfully, like the bad speakers, crash from sleep, flaking keyboard paint, etc.). I am taking it back in today and need to figure out how to best describe this problem or point them in the right direction, since it was not addressed.
About a week ago, my MacBook Pro starting making this weird sound above the F1-F3 keys, something resembling a loud hard drive accessing sound or a sparking sound. When this happens, the cursor turns into the colored spinning beach ball, locking up my ability to interact with my computer. This continues for maybe 5-10 minutes. Then the sound stops, and the beachball goes away. But, it could come back anytime. This makes working on my computer virtually impossible as there are times it happens 3-4 times in an hour. It comes randomly, at any time. It seems some likely if the computer has been running for awhile and is overheating, but it has been known to come on bootup sometimes, as well.
No idea what his is - I already had the Main Logic Board replaced and it didn't help, so it must be another component up there underneath the F1-F3 keys.
    Any expert advice? Thank you.

  • Screen recorder apps scam?

    Hi,
I recently downloaded several screenrecorders and what I found was that they are essentially all the same, like in they all seem to use the same code. Most of them are made either by Yuchen, David Pete or Brad Bertram.
Sound recording through the computer doesn't work at all and some bought apps are worse than the free ones
Like Screen Recorder Tool works fine (except for the computer audio) but Video Flow costing 7,99 euros is crap and guess what: Both are from the same developer! (David Pete)
So, is this some sort of scam or something?

You should have read the apps' descriptions and user ratings. All sales on the App Store are final. http://www.apple.com/legal/itunes/us/terms.html#APPS

  • Adding audio to imovie screen recording

    Hi,
I just made a video using iMovie 10 and selected screen recording. A friend of mine wanted to know how to use Google docs. So I finish the whole recording only to realize I had my sound muted.  There isn't any way to get that sound back is there? If not, how do I now record my voice to match the now silent recording?
    I'm using operating system 10.6.8 and I'm on a 27" iMac.

    Hello Graig:
If it is a matter of not enough memory it will be easy enough to find out. Run a disk repair and be sure all other apps are closed when running imovie. A good program to have is Cache Out X. It is free and it is a simple way to clean up unneeded files. Download here:
