Quality less than par

i know thee are many topis on quality, but everyone i read has a slightly different need than me.--
I have a dv video that was created in FCP 5 and when i export it and burn it, it looks horrible on my tv. the text is pixelated and parts of the images are too at some points.
here is some info
length 4 minutes
dv ntsc 48
i export> quicktime> reference.
then i let dvdsp compress it with bitrates of 4-8 at best quality...
and i need it to look better.
Any suggestions on output, compression settings, or dvdsp settings. anything will help.

How did you export it, as DV also? Usually Motion does a niccer job than FCP with text even in DV, but you can adjust the output alsoo. For me, H.264 does a real nice job from text in Motion and FCP
fcp are dv/dvcpro ntsc , 100 percent render
fcp > export> quicktime> self con/ no recompress..
If the text is looking really bad, you may want to try exporting as --> using Quicktime Conversion and another setting (H.264 or Animation) Mark in and out point around small section with text and Pop it open using various settings and see if there are differences, usuallly text alot sharper than DV Also you can add compression markers for problem areas
compress to mpeg2 -bit rate between 6.4 and 8- motion best- 1 pass non vbr...with audio as DOLBY 2..
On this I would use either CBR (for text or slow Motion) or 2-Pass VBR, never really use 1 Pass VBR. Borad stroke here CBR allocates the same rate across all frames, VBR allocates more bits to the frames where they need them and less where they do not. 2 Pass puts the bits where they are needed also in the areas of the frame.
Example - Picture a Red Circle on a Black background, not moving, for 20 seconds of a clip. Then the next 20 seconds is a tree blowing in the wind in front of a wall (Yeah kind of strange movie, isn't it?)
CBR (lets say setting of 5) would allocate 5 to every frame, the Circle and the trees, which really does not make alot of sense since the Circle is not moving and stays the same across all 20 seconds and the trees are moving.
If the Circle for the most part would look the same at 3, using VBR will take more bits from the Circle and allocate it to the tree section. (Remember the Compressor in VBR is looking for an average target rate.)
1 Pass VBR will take the bits not needed for the Circle and move them to the tree clip, spread evenly acrosss the frame. Which again has an issue - the wall is not moving, the trunk of the tree is not moving. Two Pass will take more of the bits away from the stationary part of the frame (the wall and trunk) and move more of them to where the leaves are moving.
Anyway also note that there is a cap on how much data is DVD Spec, audio and video is 10.08 Mbps (9.8 for video), I usually budget for less though, sometimes higher rates on burned DVD-Rs can cause stuttering//glitching, and also discs full to the brim also have issues on some players. I usually aim for the least rate that looks the best.

Output quality less than source file in sequence FCP 7

I imported a .mov file into my sequence. It is 1920X1080 Apple ProRes.422. 7 1/2 mins. long. 6.18GB.
I added a new audio file for the entire sequence. Inserted a few edits to the credits using Motion.
I exported, first at Apple ProRes 422 HD also 1920X1080. It ended up being over 9GB. The quality was worse than the
source .mov file. These were both auditioned in Quicktime. The original .mov file looks fine at full resolution,
but not after my export. I've read the manual, consulted my online tutorials, read forums. I believe I have set all my
export settings correctly, yet it doesn't export with the crispness of the original file.
If it is important, the thin color bar just above the playhead and timeline is light purple.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Two things are screwing you up.
1. Your sequence frame size is not the same as your original media.
2. Your sequence compressor is h.264 not ProRes.
Take the original clip and drop it into a new sequence.
When FCP asks if you want to match the clip settings, click yes.
Delete that clip then go to your original sequence and copy all the clips then shift over to the new sequence and past them into the timeline.
You may have to remove any distortions (resizing) to have the clips play in full screen.
Export that edit using Export Quicktime (NOT quicktime conversion) with "current settings" and "make self contained" selected.
Once you have that file, use Compressor to create any non ProRes deliverable.

Why is the render quality less than the source files

I am setting render quality at Best, Full 1920 x 1080. The movie quality in either a quick time or windows media player file is terrible. These same files export at good quality at school with the same settings. Why am I getting poor image quality on my PC at home?

The first image is a screen shot of the original footage taken in AE. The second image is the exported qucktime. The quick time is at half size and the AE is 50%. The source files are a qucktime output of a frame by frame animation I created in AE. I have tried rendering both interlaced and progressive. My instructor had me drop the source files onto the "Create a new composition" icon at the bottom of the project window so AE would interpret the sourcefiles correctly to be exported back to Final Cut Pro. The format options are set to no compression. I don't know how to tell what codec I am rendering to.
My instructor isn't any help since I am working on a PC. He only knows Mac.

Video quality is less than expected when playing inside Flash

iam using flv video. i played it back in many ways , with flv player that comes with flash ,as embedded in the time line and using external class that use NetStream ,the video quality was less than playing the same video outside the flash invironment using any stand alone video player like media player classic .
why is that happening , did i miss some thing ?
is there a setting that i should do to play hd video in high quality ?
i have tried setting stage.quality to BEST but it didn't affect the video quality ?
any help ?

can't I just change the "Easy Setup" settings so it would work without degrading the input and subsequently the output? Sorry, I don't quite grasp "fixed-resolution" yet so may be asking something that doesn't have an answer.
FCE only works with certain presets available in the Easy Setup menu. If your footage isn't one of these resolutions then FCE will conform it to the sequence you have selected, downgrading the footage in the process. Final Cut Pro gives you the option to make a sequence set to the dimensions you want it to be, without worrying about whether your image matches a preset.

Design Question: Can I use Rest-CsPoolRegisterState command in order start Front End Service when Quorum is lost and less than 85% of FES are available?

Fact: In a situation when we lose network connectivity to Site A DC, and due to less than 50% FES servers, Quorum will be lost and as a result Front End Service will stop after 5 minutes.
The question is, would I be able to do a manual intervention by using this command
Reset-CsPoolRegistrarState –PoolFqdn <pool name fqdn> –ResetType QuorumLossRecovery , and start FES with just 2 FES servers in Site B DC and 1 SQL
Server?
The reason I am asking this question is because it is mentioned in one of the Lync manuals that at least 85% of the servers must be available to recover once the Quorum has lost. The same manual also mentions to use above
mentioned command in order to recover from Quorum Loss despite the fact that the lost FES servers are still not available.

In Lync server 2013 Stretched pools are not supported for the Front End, Edge, Mediation, and Director server roles. It need two Lync pools.
If one pool fail to connect, An administrator can declare an emergency and fail over the pool to the backup pool. That is done by using the:
Invoke-CsPoolFailover –PoolFQDN <Pool fqdn> –DisasterMode –Verbose

Is two-pass VBR not needed if less than 60 minutes?

Just curious... I've read that single-pass will result in the same quality as two-pass for projects less than 60 minutes.

Single pass may result in superior quality. Two pass VBR is necessary to squeeze file sizes and bit rates to fit within DVD parameters.

How do you reduce image to less than 5 mb

I need to reduce a simple image to less than 5 mb without losing too much quality. How is this possible in Photoshop Touch? I don't understand how to convert the size from pixels to mb etc
Please help a beginner

Well, a 4000 x 3000 (about 12 Megapixels) image saved as JPEG 100% quality will average about 2.5 MB in file size. (Note how I said average depending on image.) I can't remember offhand how much PS Touch compresses an image when saved as JPEG. Maybe someone from Adobe staff can comment. There's no way of adjusting how a project gets saved other than the file type when exporting.
PS Touch can handle about 12 Megapixels max (though I've had it go as high as 4000 x 4000 in a new project).

Internet slows down at night to less than 1Mbs, poor customer service

I'm having the same problem. I had originally 1-3 Mbps (Oct 2008 - Jan 2012). It used to work fine but then the speed seems to be slowing down as years passed by, I was getting less than 1Mbps most of the time so I upgraded to 3-7Mbps with 2 years holding period (Jan 2012 to Jan 2014). From Jan 2012 to Nov. 2012 it was fine, then starting Dec. 2012, the internet started to slow down at night. I'm getting 6-7Mbps during daytime and until around 9pm, then the internet slows down to less than 1Mbps after 9pm. Then starting mid January 2013, the situation seems to get worst, the internet slows down starting around 7pm, and then on the 3rd wk of January, the internet started to slow down as early as 5pm.
I've contacted the customer service twice. First, the person who attended remotely accessed my computer and after more than 15 minutes trying to find fault at my computer, wiring, set-up or wireless router (instead of the verizon network), he realized he doesn't have any excuses and instead instructed me to hard reset the modem. I told him that if I hard reset the modem, he will be disconnected to my computer. He said, "that's fine, I will call you you to give instruction on how to set-up the modem". After I have hard reset the modem, he never called up and I was left all by myself figuring out how to set-up the modem. I've contacted the customer service the 2nd time, a different person attended and exactly the same thing happened, the guy instructed me to hard reset the modem but never called up after he got disconnected. I guess this is their expertise, how to rudely leave the communication once they figure out that they can't resolve the problem.
Once the 2 years holding period is over, I will change to other internet provider and will never switch back to verizon again. I will never ever recommend verizon to my friends and will share them my experience with verizon.

This is one of the reasons we are leaving Verizon as well. We previously left Brighthouse because the initial deal sounded great, until the rebates expired. When the price jacked up, I told them they had to better because Brighthouse was much less expensive for the same package but their service didn't slow down at 7pm. The customer service agent said I really couldn't compare the two because Verizon has a superior quality of service. I asked, "Then why does my internet slow down around 7pm, because the Brighthouse service didn't do that". All the customer service agent has to say was, "That's not true." Nice try. He essentially called me a liar, about something I've seen firsthand, and I have experienced that same 7pm slowdown with a similar service we had in NC. Sorry Verizon, we left Brighthouse because we thought we were saving a few bucks, and getting a higher speed on our internet. Not true on both accounts and we're going back. PS To the person who made this initial blog post, I noticed there were 484 views but no "likes" - it's because that button won't let you click it, at least that's what I experienced on my end. I'm certain there are a lot more people out there who deal with this same issue and are quite frustrated.

System reboots with audigy2 value. get irql less than or not equil. please help new c

my system reboots at random (more in games) with audigy 2 value..
could someone please advise me on the problem i have with my new audigy 2 card. i would like to get it working and not have to get another card. i got this one because my onboard sound is so junky with midi music and has a poor s/n on recording. the blaster card seems to meet my expectations except for the reboots.
i have read on forums about this same issue with ati video cards in the 9200+ range so i thought that might be the cause but i went back to the onboard audio and the problem went away.
at random my system reboots. i get an error.. irql_not less than or equil or something like that and then it reboots. i let it submit to microsoft and they only say its a problem with a device driver. i have all the updated drivers for all my hardware at this point. i have all the windows updates as well. my xp is legal. i dont think its the power supply but.. could it be? the readings with my digital meter are normal. i have an older but quality digital multi tester. got it when in college. so i know its accurate. it reads 4.9 on 5 and 2.2 on 2. all this info because of the information i have read already. is the audigy a power hungry card? cause i dont get any reboots when i use the onboard sound and my ati video so what ever is going on it has something to do with the sound card.
i cant find a newer driver on the driver site for it except for the beta. so i assume there is no updated driver for the card.
i have a ups backup system. it has come on but it has never caused a computer hang when it has. its a 250 watt unit with plenty of battery backup. same battery backs up my ham radio equip. i am going to reinstall the card and see if in some chance it is munipulating the waveform to the supply. the power to the machine reads 22 volts.
i have had some issues with the power company recently. they had to do some major repairs because i was having problems with flickers. but they fixed... [Show more]

sorry i missed that detail in my information. that is one of the things i checked. video is on 6 and audio is on 7. i dont see any other devices sharing those irqs in the device manager irq information. or any other devices on same irqs or i/o
before anyone mentions it i also have 3 fans sucking air. my case is actually an old server case with lots of vent holes in front and side. i was thinking of getting some of the slot fans and blowing on video and sound card. could this be the issue? the monitor app says my sytem temp is 82 degrees. 27 on processor.
i appreaciate the input. i ran it all night last night with nero media player running with visulations on. the music was still playing but the video was locked up when i checked it this morning? nothing but mushrooms on my screen from the visulation. i dont know if something happened with nero (most likely this time) but thats the first time that error came up. the odd thing about this really is that it may go for hours and not do this but it seems to do it more when we play demanding games. i ran the machine yesterday for hours on my inverter (ups system) from the batteries with no problem. its output is just a little hotter than my house voltage 27 volts and my line volatage is about 9. but it may reboot before i get this post completed. it ran without problem for 7 hours with all the major games i have until the batteries ran down. (two high capacity 2 volt deep cycles on the outside deck)its really odd. its almost at random. at this point i suspect that i have a power supply problem of some sort. im gonna get a new supply by friday and see if that hel

Two MacBook Air logic board failures in less than 8 months

I purchased a new MacBook Air in early 2011. 14 months later the logic board needed replacement. 8 months after that the logic board needs replacing again. I don't take the Air into extreme temperature/humidity environments. The computer has never been dropped or had anything spilled on it. This is the 4th latop I've owned since 1995, but all of my previous laptops have been PCs. Is this normal for Apple? Any suggestions on how to avoid yet anoter $280 repair (because of course the latest logic board failure is out of warranty from the initial logic board replacement 8 months ago...)?

Let me get this straight - you consider the need to have the logic board replaced twice in less then eight months on a computer that is less than two years old to be a good deal?!? Both logic board failures were diagnosed at an Apple Genius bar in person. It shouldn't matter if it was the hard drive, battery pack, or whatever. To have a major harware component and its replacement fail twice in a very short period of time is inexcuseable! I can understand the first failure - someone has to lose the quality control lottery. However, to have the exact same component need replacing twice strongly suggest shoddy manufacturing/rebuilding.
Are logic board failures so common on Mac Airs that the discussion is about the best repair price and not the frequent failure rate?

Brand new Zen, less than 1 hour use..crashed and will not b

SOME COMMENTS - IT has now crashed with less than hours use, it will not boot up, will not charge via USB,it's brand new.. so no. I hate this player. A player should never have this type of problems with less than hours use!!!
SUGGESTIONS - MAKE A PLAYER THAT WORKS
BATTERY LIFE - THe first time I used it, I had just had my friend transfer her music files onto it after doing the same to her player. I just wanted to make sure that it worked properly this was on the 8th of June
on the 9th I got on a flight and headed to the UK, I did not use the player at all, but I noticed that the battery life had slightly reduced even though the player was off.
On Saturday the 0th I went for a walk to and used the player for no more than 30mins.
Everything seemed fine, I adjusted a few settings like the sensitivity of the touch pad and put the player on shuffle. I got home, shut the player down and fell asleep.
Sunday (today) June th. the player refused to boot when switched on, it just hung on the floating creative Zen micro screen. I shut it down and it took ages for it to shut down even though it didn't fully boot up.
I called my friend in the US and asked her if shher battery was failing she said no, I installed the softtware on my machine, slid the back of my zen, removed the battery and replacd it immediately.
After installing the software, I connected the ZEn to the machine via USB, nothing happened.
It won't charge, the Zen windows explorer doesn't hink anything is connected to the machine.
I am severely disappointed. I spent $400+ buying 2 players with creative, I do not expect a new product to fail so miserably on its first outing.
Where the heck do I go from here...
creative owes me an apology and a decent brand new replacement.

It did not come with a mains charger, just a USB cable to charge via the computer

I would have to go back to the US in order to get a refund and I would have to do this before 4days are up. which means the deadline for a refund is 9th of June 2006
Would creative be willing to incur my costs and time to fly back to NY in order to return this nightmare of a product!!

Unfortunately scratches aren't considered a defect.
If the click wheel stopped working or the screen went bad, then that's covered under warranty. But scratches, unfortunately aren't. I would do a search. There have been a few people with success with scratch removers.
The iPod comes partially charged. There's also that fast chargering, and a full charge.

How do I reduce a picture to less than 50kb and less than 500 by 500 ratio?

I'm trying to upload pictures to a Web site that requires the size of the picture to be no larger than 50kb, as well as less than 500 by
500.
I've tried cropping and exporting. I can get the aspect to less than
500 by 500, but then the kb size gets larger.

Paul,
iPhoto won't downsize your photos, since your original would lose much quality if you could do that. Just crop to best suit the aesthetics of the photo. Then to resize for the website, do File > Export > File Export to a Desktop folder. Instead of "full size" select "scale photos no larger than" and type 500 pixels in one of the dimension boxes. (Choose the larger dimension - width for landscape photos, or height for portrait.) iPhoto will automatically constrain the proportions and enter the second amount. Only the exported copies will be resized. Upload those from the Desktop to the website, then trash when finished.

Less than 24hrs and already getting the shutdown problem

I recieved my macbook (black 1GB Ram) yesterday evening, after spending a few hours loading up my software and running updates for everything i was happy and running great. Since it was midnight i decided to get some sleep and enjoy my beauty in the morning. At night with the coreDuo temp checker and iStat Nano i was running at Max 56C, mostly 26C. This morning i came out and opened the lid (left it on with just the lid closed) and she came right out of sleep no problem. used it for about 3mins and it just shut off...took about 5 times of hitting the power button for it to come back on (i waited a few mins between tries). When i left for work i had it back up and running, instead of leaving it on i'm going to try and turn it off when i'm done using it. It's a pain in the butt but i want to see if that helps or has no effect on the problem. Any suggestions? I know the holding the power button until it beeps is supposed to help, but this is BRAND NEW and i expect quality from Apple, that is why i buy it, so i expect it to work as it was designed.

Is it running 10.4.7 ? Mine came with 10.4.6 installed and only started shutting down after I upgraded to 10.4.7
I've also noticed a strange phenomomen I can't explain. Mine started shutting down only when it was running from the battery. I followed the tips from various forums suggesting that resetting a PMU reset might help (if only temporarily) which I did and certainly cleared the problem. However, this activated the other issue/bug of booting up with a blank white screen with multiple vertical lines. I cleared this problem by performing PRAM reset and immediately changing the screen resolution to another resolution and then changing it back again. Everything worked fine then UNTIL:
I completely drained the battery and charged it up again over night. I switched on and it shutdown immediately with the battery on 100%. No amount of performing a PMU reset or PRAM would make the Macbook work again on the battery.
I guessed that if the Macbook wouldn't work with a 100% charged battery then maybe it would work with a less than 100% battery. But I couldn't work out how to drain the battery if it kept shutting down. So, I put the Macbook to sleep with the power adaptor running it, and then when it was asleep I took the power lead out so that it slept using the battery. To my surprise it didn't shutdown! I left it in sleep mode running on battery for about 30 minutes and now it's working again on the battery!
Does anyone suspect, like me that this is a software problem with OS X and not a hardware problem?
Sorry if this is very prolix, but the more we learn about this problem the closer Apple and us might get to finding out exactly what's happening here.

How to configure an image to specific parameters. Needed: no more than 1200 pixels on long side jpeg format no less than 5 mb. Image will be viewed on large standup screen.(original image is 22 mb)

I often have requests for images to be sent within certain parameters: such as "no longer than 1200 pixels on longest side + jpeg format + file size no less than 5 mb." Images will be viewed on a large stand up screen. My original image sizes are usually around 22 mb. When I use Export and specify 1200 pixels (quality setting is all the way over to 12), Save the file to a folder on the desktop, and then open the image in Preview, Inspector shows that the file size is now 233 KB. How do I meet all specifications without reducing the image size so drastically?

That will depend on the amount of of detail in your jpeg. Given a certain pixels size and level of quality, a jpeg with many details will require a larger filesize than a jpeg with large plain regions of constant color.
Is 833 KB a big enough file size to view on a big screen?
The file size is really unimportant for the quality. What will count is the pixel size and jpeg quality you set. What is the pixel size of the large screen? That should match the pixel size you are using in your export preset. 1200 longest dimension is extremely unlikely for a large screen. Even the 17" display of my MacBook Pro has a larger pixelsize of 1920x1200.
I am sharing William Lloyd's doubts, that the specifications you were given are correct. I'd try to export with a larger pixelsize and a high jpeg quality - perhaps 10.
If you export with 10 Megapixel and a good jpeg quality, you will probably get a 5MB file, not that the size should matter.

Top of the line TV $1500 cheaper less than two months later

I recently, April 11, bought a brand new top of the line (from what I was told by the sales associates) TV with the latest technology for $5000.00. I looked on the website today as I was shopping for a different item and saw that it was on sale for $3500. I realize that part of electronics is the in with the new brings prices down but that figure less than two months later is astronomical. It's nearly 1/3 off. I may be naive, but I never would have bought the top of the line had I known that it price would change so much.
I called the rewards hotline (I'm an elite member) and they let me know that I could talk to the store manager because 15 days had passed and they had the final call. I went in and the manager basically told me the best he could do was offer me 50% off laptop accessories. Not exactly what I was looking for.
I am extremely dissapointed. Again, I realize that prices of electronics change but $1500 in less than two months is crazy to me. I learned a lesson but was hoping that someone could help me out.
I would be willing to put any money I receive back right back to Best Buy for a new laptop ect...or at least a discount on that laptop. Otherwise I will have to go elsewhere
I have been a loyal customer for many years (my family as well) and I think this would definitely change the opinion of the company/ I was told that I could talk to a manager who could help me out but then went in and found out that he could lose his job if he helped me. Quite confusing.
