Quartz Extreme Missing?

Hello,
I recently tried to run my copy of Final Cut Express 3.5 but it said I am missing the Quartz Extreme Support. I'm using a MacBook. I read on the minimum requirements that Final Cut Express will work with MacBooks, and my copy of Final Cut Express worked fine when my MacBook ran Tiger. I recently upgraded to Leopard and now it doesn't work anymore.
Anyone have any solutions?

I'm having the same problem. When I tried to open FCE yesterday, I got the error warning:
• Final Cut Express requires that your system have a Quartz Extreme capable video card.
I'm using FCE4 on a MacBook Pro and nothing has changed on my computer since I last used FCE on Thursday.
Wasn't there a FCE software update a week or so ago? Should I go back in the Time Machine to before that update? I tried the simple solution listed below, but my system was already set for millions of colors.

  • Trashed my prefs and now have Quartz extreme support missing

Idiotic me trashed my prefs and didn't open FCP before emptying the trash and now get the Quartz Extreme missing message. Do I have to re-install Final Cut Studio or can I download the missing software from Apple or ?? What's the best method?
    thanks

    Happy you solved the problem!
Next time you can use FCP Rescue to delete and backup your preferences. You can restore them if you need that way.

  • Final Cut - Missing AGP graphics card in my MacBook which is Quartz Extreme

    Successful Install of Leopard.
I have Final Cut Express HD 3.0, my MacBook is supposedly Quartz Extreme Supported (System Profiler agrees with that). On attempted start of Final Cut, I get the following error message.
    "Configuration Error
This software requires certain hardware of software which is missing.
    • AGP graphics card"
Any ideas or did I find a true Apple Bug with their own hardware and software?

No PCI Cards installed in a MacBook.
No updates to Final Cut Express HD 3.0 for this model. There is only one update to 3.0.1 and that is for specific machines.
Yes Final Cut Express HD 3.0 did work for 10.4.10 and was installed when I got MacBook by Apple.

  • FinalCut 703 doesn't start - missing a "quartz extreme system"

I run Final Cut Pro 7.0.3 under OSX 10.7.5 on a MAcbook Pro 17"
all of a sudden I get an error when starting FCP. An Error Box telling me I need a quartz extreme compatible system apperas and allows me only to quit FCP.
I haven't done any changes to the display settings recently and I don't know where it comes from.
A reboot solves the problem, after this FCP starts as usual...
any ideas what is going wrong ? could it be a hardware issue ??
    thx Jo

That message has been around for a least since FCP 5. It happens sometimes.
Pressing the Esc key will get you out of it.

  • Quartz Extreme Support

Can anyone explain this error code to me? "This software requires certain hardware or software which is missing." I got that after installing FCP 5.1 and doing a software update.
    Help

On one of my Dual G5s, after I did an upgrade with my crossgrade Final Cut Studio Disks and a Software update, I finished editing a project I was working on. I then Shut the system down for about two hours. When I tried to launch FCP, I got the error "This software requires certain hardware or software which is missing." Under that phrase were the words "Quartz Extreme Support" and the quit button.

  • Quartz Extreme and Screen Savers not working

I couldn't find an answer to my problem. But I found an answer close to mine said (10.4.4 broke Quartz Extreme). There system profiler says Quartz not supported. I checked mine says the same thing now. The answer was to delete two files from system library (Extension.kextcache and Extension.mkext) I did that and restarted worked fine, turn computer back on today back to the same problem.
    I could use some HELP.
This is my problem. I don't remember when this started but it's been months. It's my screen savers I have regular savers and Quartz savers and Quartz saver I made when I got Tiger. Went to change saver one day and all my Quartz savers were missing some savers that were not Quartz and the screen saver called my computer name has a blue file folder. I went thought the savers found some that made System Preference crash though them out still did not help, checked saver folder all there. I restarted computer some times were there, some times not might have to restart few more times to work. When I turn computer on next day some times would be all back some times not. Have had regular screen saver missing but when screen saver kicked in after some time it work but not in list. Checked folder again the saver were missing from folder too this time. I don't want to have to restart my computer each time I want to use those savers. Some time have to keep started over and over again in a roll to get to work don't think thats very good for my computer. I also did repair permission that didn't help. Don't know what to try next. Can anybody help.

Yes, I did try a new account and the screen saver still will not come on. I spent about an hour on the phone with Apple Support and the tech did seem sharp. After trying many things including your suggestion his opinion was that I downloaded something that wrote something into the screen saver Pref's or something to keep it from activating. The only screen saver I had downloaded around that time was a Superman one relating to the new Superman movie. I think I will contact the originator of that screen saver and see what he has to say. Apple support suggested I do a new OS install. Thanks for your reply to my post

  • 10.4.4 broke Quartz Extreme

Hopefully an easy question for somebody here:
I installed the full suite of new Software Update fixes last night (10.4.4, Quicktime, iTunes, etc.) and it appeared to run and restart without a hitch. However, an hour later when I launched Soundtrack Pro 1.02 -- my most important app -- it failed with the following error:
    Configuration Error:
This software requires certain hardware or software which is missing.
    * Quartz Extreme Support.
It ran fine earlier in the day, before the update. At first I thought this was a Soundtrack Pro problem, but a few other signs on my Mini indicate that maybe there is a problem with Quartz Extreme now. E.g., the Electric Sheep screensaver is slow and jerky, where previously it was smooth.
Can anyone give me some guidance on where to look to see if any configuration settings might be broken, or how to reset them? Thanks in advance.
Mac Mini   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

I appear to be in the same boat as you. My MDD has a Radeon 9000 Pro which has been Quartz Extreme capable since the day I purchased the machine.
After the 10.4.4 update I can no longer launch DVD Player (it says "A valid video device could not be found for playback. [-70017]"), Exposé is choppy, and video files in Quicktime Player take tons of CPU usage and yet play choppy.
System Profiler now says that Quartz Extreme is "Not Supported". What happened?

  • FCP Upgrade Problem - Quartz Extreme

Help! I've owned FCP for many years, and currently have a MacBook Pro that I've used since the original Intel switchover.
Apple's "Software Update" suggested that I install the Pro Application update the other day, I clicked "OK" and now my FCP won't run any more! I get an error message saying that Final Cut Pro requires Quartz Extreme video.
Why on earth would Apple "auto-update" software (which I paid good money for) such that it is now disabled on my machine? Can this be true? Would Apple really do that? Help!

Well, duh, of course I was the one who clicked "OK".
But the point is that it was Apple's Software Update application which "recommended" that I install an update which now has rendered a $900 application inoperable. All other instances of software updates from Apple (including both manual installers and the Software Update app) detect the hardware and OS specs before "recommending" and installing something which permanently disables the application on my hardware. This is clearly something they missed on this one, and I'd like to know how to get back the software I paid good money for (without re-installing from scratch, which looks like where I'm headed).
So, don't give me this "you're the one who clicked OK" stuff.

  • Verify Quartz Extreme

I have a friend who has a G4 tower and FCP5 installed. Recently he began getting an error when trying to run FC that says something to the effect that Quartz Extreme hardware or software is missing. I assume the G4 has a graphics card that supports Quartz Extreme (there are two in the system but I can't verify what two they are at the moment) but is there a way I can verify this?

Open the system profiler and look there.

There have been a few reports on here where Corsair RAM seems to have caused users a lot of grief with crashes.
The recommendation on here, mostly, is to only buy RAM from macsales.com or crucial.com as they guarantee their modules will work and offer a no quibble lifetime guarantee.
I'd put the original RAM back in, return the Corsair chips for a refund and re-order from one of those two companies.

  • FCP does not work after sleep - asking for quartz extreme card

    Hi all,
Well my 2 x 2.266 Dual Core Intel xeon with 5 gig memory is getting a little long in the tooth and I have started coming up against what I suspect is hardware issues.
    The OSX is 10.5.8
It has a blackmagic HD card as well as an ESATA rocketraid card.
I have a sohoraid attached as well as a Drobo (via firewire).
In the last couple of months I l've had a bunch of issues that I wonder if are at all related.
Firstly the DVD player app now freezes the whole computer if I try and start it.
when it first did this I spent forever rebuilding the system for it to only fall over again a month or so later.
    2) In the last couple of weeks, when I wake from sleep the mouse icon is gone and what is in its place is a small area of distorted, broken pixels. Still works as a mouse (the distorted pixels move round like an arrow) and the arrow returns when I tab through to another application. Weird...
    3) In that same time when I have started Final Cut Pro it immediately gives me a warning saying a quartz extreme video vard is required to run application and refuses to open. Restarting computer fixes this but this is a new development.
    4) I ran into an issue at beginning of the year with my soho 5bay raid where it said a drive failed and then couldn't rebuild with a new drive, took it to shop and it blinked into life on their computer. Drive was never broken. Its now back and running as it should, like it always did, but they couldn't see what went wrong.
These of course could be a unrelated but I somehow suspect not.
Any first 'go-to's" you would recommend to just try and trouble shoot this?
    THANK YOU!!!!

    Try these in this order:
    1. Set Mac to NEVER SLEEP. No exceptions.
    2. Repair Permissions on all drives.
    3. Trash Preferences for offending apps.
    4. Wipe and re-install fresh OS and apps every 6-18 months.

  • New GFX card, Quartz Extreme error, and suddenly FCP 6 will not run. Help me fix this problem please!

Model Name: Mac Pro Model Identifier: MacPro1,1 Processor Name: Dual-Core Intel Xeon Processor Speed: 3 GHz Number Of Processors: 2 Total Number Of Cores: 4 L2 Cache (per processor): 4 MB Memory: 7 GB Bus Speed: 1.33 GHz
My old GFX card nVidia GeForce 7300GT which is busted.
I replaced it with a nVidia NVIDIA Quadro FX 4500 from a Mac Pro of the same generation.
I'm now getting a Quartz Extreme error whenever I try to run Final Cut Pro 6 or Compressor. "This system does not meet the following minimum requirements: Final Cut Pro 6 requires that your system have a Quartz Extreme capable video card."
Well, I checked the specs of the card and it does support Quartz Extreme. So why isn't FCP 6 running?
Looking under the System Profiler > Graphics/Displays, it doesn't say the Cinema HD Display supports Quartz Extreme, but how could that be, because the Quadro 4500's specs online says it does?!! This was the better GFX card made for the same generation of Mac Pro but somehow doesn't work!
This is also effecting my DVD player App with an error: "A valid video device could not be found for playback: -70017". Which has never happened before either.
I've researched online and can't find anything that works.
The card has power running to it and the monitor is hooked into the closest DVI port to the logic board which most of people with the same problem have done to fix this. I've also gone into the Disk Utility and ran both Verify and Repair permissions and the same for the boot disk.
Nothing. I'm stumped. Short of trying to flash the ROM on the GFX card I'm not sure what to do. And I'm not comfortable doing that. Help please?
I'm using Final Cut Pro 6 and subsequent older versions of Motion and Compressor, not FCP X or companion series.

If it was previously working then try a smc and pram reset.
If that doesn't fix it then see if vlc can handle the video.

  • IMovie won't run on brand new Mac Mini (Quartz Extreme message)

I just bought a new Mac Mini. The latest 2010 Mac Mini.
    I have a Samsung 23" LCD monitor.
I tried to open iMovie, and got the following message:
iMovie requires a graphics card that is compatible with Quartz Extreme. One or more of your graphics cards does not support Quartz Extreme.
I'm new to the Mac world. Shouldn't Mac software run on Mac hardware?
    Does anyone have any ideas?

    Hello All,
I'm actually on my second Mac mini in a month (I returned the first one) with the same problem. I didn't have Perian installed, and certainly not Windows Media. I also have the problem that when I turn the computer on, it freezes on the Apple logo and the spinning gear stops turning. I have to shut down, then when I turn computer back on, it goes directly to the log in window. It will work fine from there. And most times, iMovie will start no problem. I hope that I don't have to return this one as well, but I might have to.

  • Mac Pro 1.1, OSX 10.6.8, ATI 1900XT, Quartz Extreme - Not working

I am about to sell my computer and I wanted to check and make sure everything is working as it should. I have a Mac Pro 1,1 2x Intel 2.66ghz Dual Core, running OSX 10.6.8, ATI Radeon 1900XT.
Everything was working fine a few weeks ago. Now when I try to open just about any program, I get an error that says "This system does not meet the following minimum requirements: ie Final Cut Pro requires that your system have a Quartz Extreme capable video card."
I have always been able to run FCP and all the programs that are giving me this error. I don't know exactly when I updated to OSX10.6.8, but I am almost certain I have been able to run FCP with OSX 10.6.8, I was running it about three weeks ago and the only thing that I know of that is different is that I updated photoshop.
    I found this thread:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/12728219#12728219
Which suggests doing the Snow Leopard Graphics Update 1.0 found here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1083
I tried running it, but it says it only works with 10.6.4. (I am on 10.6.8).
I also looked to see if Quartz is enabled in the system profiler, but it doesn't even show that option:
Does anyone know what could possibly be happening or causing this? Getting a new GPU is not really an option since I am selling the thing.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
If your computer meets the minimum requirements, you can purchase and download OS X 10.7 'Lion' from the Mac App Store online. It is also available on a flash drive at about double the price of the download.
    http://www.apple.com/macosx/
Specs, minimum hardware requirements, and upgrade paths for OS X 10.7 'Lion' are also listed here:
    http://www.apple.com/macosx/specs.html
Even though Lion runs in 2GB system RAM, 4GB or more is highly recommended.
Also be aware that Apple recently announced the next version of OS X, 10.8, called 'Mountain Lion', but no firm date for availability, other than 'coming this summer.'
