Quick string problem - takes 2 seconds lol

hey guys, quick question...
i am working on an email client, and through trial and error found out i need to use a strange string class, so i was wondering how do i declare this string in my constructor
Parameters
public void postMail( String recipients[ ], String subject, String message , String from) throws MessagingExceptionConstructor Line
test.postMail([email protected], "test", "test2", "[email protected]");my problem is in that first [email protected]

My first thought is to think that this isn't a string
test.postMail([email protected], "test", "test2", "[email protected]");your method innvocation need to be the same as the declaration
test.postMail([email protected], "test", "test2", "[email protected]"); // this is not the same
public void postMail( String recipients[ ], String subject, String message , String from) // as thisSee how your first value you pass to the method isn't a string. Hope that helps!
test.postMail("[email protected]", "test", "test2", "[email protected]"); // this is
public void postMail( String recipients[ ], String subject, String message , String from) Edited by: didittoday on Mar 8, 2008 8:12 PM

    I am not sure about the cell style as it looks like you are doing it right. For the null or blank cells it looks like you are only checking for null not "".

  • [SOLVED] Problem with second SATA drive

    My laptop has two hard drive bays, and just recently I added a second SATA drive (moved it from my old laptop) to the extra bay.
    Now, anytime the second hard drive /dev/sdb has any heavy disk activity, it appears to cause a shutdown of the SATA port for the first drive (/dev/sda)!  Though the second drive is still fine, and I can still write to it until the system crashes from the root drive (on /dev/sda) being shutdown.
    If I don't mount and use the second drive, the first drive works just fine, and I can pound it with traffic without issue.
    I can reproduce this problem by copying large amounts of data to drive 2.
    This is when I get in my dmesg when the first SATA drive shuts down:

    I have experimented, and found that if I turn off NCQ on the kernel command line in my bootloader (libata.force=noncq), that it takes longer before the problem occurs.  Though, if I write enough to the second drive, it does still happen after a while, just greatly reduced its chances of happening.
    Is it possible that the old drive (sdb) is causing the problem?  I noticed that it is much noisier than I remember when the drive head moves around.
    Another curiosity while I was trying to duplicate the problem:
      - I start a large file copy from sda -> sdb
      - At the same time in another terminal, I do "find / -print"
      - When I hear the drive 2 head moving, it pauses the output of the "find" command.
    Every time I hear the head move, I see the find output pause.  Its almost like the drive seek on drive 2 causes the whole Sata controller to pause while the head moves.  Very odd!
    Anyone have any ideas?   I think the next thing I will try is borrow a drive from another machine, and do the big write to it to see if I get the same results.
    If it is of any help, here is some more info on the laptop:

    It appears my drive one really is failing.  It was the first drive and not the second making the loud head seek sound.  I borrowed another drive from a friend, and copied my drive one to it.   No problems with the new drive in place.

  • MacBook Pro Problems - Take It In?

    Hello,
    I have a 6 month old MacBook Pro, covered under full AppleCare.
    I have had numerous problems with it (both hardware and software) and frankly, I am not too happy.
    1. Scratch on case.
    My laptop somehow got a thin scratch on the top of it. It was put safely in a backpack with a laptop compartment and there was nothing sharp in the bag. I don't understand why it scratched so easily. And it is a noticeable, black, scratch.
    2. Screeching optical drive.
    For some reason, when a DVD was in my optical drive, I picked up the laptop and it made a horrible screeching noise when I moved the computer around. I also have an old PowerBook G4 and it does not have this problem.
    3. Sleep.
    When I close my MacBook Pro, I expect it to go to sleep. Actually, it takes about 2 minutes for the computer to stop humming and go to sleep and the light to come on.
    4. Plugging in USB/Charger.
    When my laptop is asleep and I plug something in to its USB ports, the laptop turns on (the Apple logo illuminates) and then turns off again. If I plug a charger in, nothing happens. If I pull a charger out, the laptop turns on and off again. If I pull USB out, nothing happens.
    5. Sticky Mouse (resolved)
    For some reason, my clicker (on below the trackpad) was very sticky for some period of time. Whenever I pressed it, it seemed to click twice. This seems to have resolved itself somehow.
    6. 4GB RAM, 7200RPM HDD
    I have 4GB of RAM installed on my computer. For some reason, the laptop doesn't seem to be using this RAM because I have frequent freezes of applications and it does not seem to be going faster than a G4 iMac I used to have (1.25GHz, 1.25GB RAM).
    7. Airport Card
    There seems to be something wrong with the Airport Card on my laptop. For some reason, even when I am right next to a Airport Express, it comes up as 3 bars of signal. I then turn Airport off and then on and it seems to get full bars. Second, I have two Airports in my house, an Express on the 1st floor and an Extreme Base Station on the ground floor. When I take my laptop from my room on the first floor, down to the room where the Extreme is, the laptop, instead of switching to the Extreme, still tries to find the Express, therefore giving me low bars of signal. I then have to turn Airport off and on and then it connects to the Express.
    There you have it. Sorry to be complaining so much, but I really am upset with this laptop and would like a replacement unit. Should I go into an Apple Store? What exactly should I ask them and how?
    Thanks so much!

    Yes, absolutely! Take it in along with a printed copy of the problems. That way if they need to keep it for a few days, you have given the tech folks a laundry list of what needs fixing.
    Good luck and report back what you find out.

  • Rendering problem - takes ages - why ?? Problem described + hardware listed

    Hi
    First I will try to describe my problem which makes me nuts by now :-(....then -  I will also submit the information about my hardware as good as I can, to hopefully get some wise hints about what to do. I'm not that skilled when it comes to video and different formats and hardware etc, so hopefully I will get some easy to understand hints :-)
    I'm using Premiere Elements 8.0 and for the video capture I'm using A canon HF10 recorder. When recording I get AVCHD files (filename.mts). When starting up a new project I select "PAL->AVCHD->Full-HD 1080i 25" which I think should be the correct preset !? Atleast a preset that should work if I intend to get the best output quality in the end if I understand everything correct....
    So, the problem I'm experiencing at the moment : As soon as I drag the firt clip to my timeline and I see this "red" bar above my clip, I hit "enter key" to start rendering this particular clip.....at the moment I'm trying with just a small clip (file size 13,5 MB - 6 seconds long)....when this rendering dialogue window comes up it takes like 5-7 minutes to just render this little clip..very frustrating as you can imagine :-)
    Another thing is that after I have managed to render all my clips I added to the timeline(even though it took a huge amunt of time)..and the afterwards save the project and then re-open it, some of the clips are "red" again and I have to hit "enter" to render them again (if I'm not mistaken ?)...why is that ? Some setting I have missed and if so exactelly where can I find this and what should it be set to ?
    Have been struggeling with this for a while and need to understand what I have to do, just killing my motivation for moving on :-( Hopefully someone can describe what I need to do - and please in an easy way if possible without getting to technical (if possible)
    I can also mention that I'm using two separate disks (also listed in the below spec. of my system)..one SSD disk and so another larger disk for storage...when setting up the project I noticed that its possible (of course) to specify the different output files and where on the disk system/s they should go....also, if this is important and can make a difference for my described problems, how should I think ? What data should go on each disk and what should go on the faster SSD disk? I imagine I will get perhaps a suggestion to have even more disks for my video editing, but I really hope what I'm trying to do with just a tiny clip should not need to have more then this..hopfully its more advanced things that will create perhaps a future need for additional storage components ?
    So, here's some data on my system (give me feedback if I should list even more details for someone to be able to help me out):
    Processor :  Intel Core i7 930, 2,8 Ghz - 4 kernels, 8 logical processors
    RAM memory : 6 GB
    64 bit operating system Windows 7
    HD Drive1 : Intel SSD Sa2M080 G2Gc ATA Device - 80GB
    HD Drive2 : Samsung HD103SJ ATA Device - 1 TB
    Video Card : NVIDIA GeForce Gt240 (1 GB RAM for video card)
    Shouldn't this be enough for atleast being able to render my small clips a lot faster ? All of you that will be able to help me get back on track - your help will be VERY APPRECIATED. Thanks in avance
    //Helmut

    Bill & Robert. thanks both for your replies. I will try to use
    either of the software recommendations for getting more info about my .mts files, back shortly about this...
    (later in the evening).....but when it comes too what you mentined Robert, after re-opening my projects only some of the
    clips "turns" red again and need to be re-rendered ? Is this really a known problem in PrE you say ? And if so, does it exist also in PrEL 9 ? If so, I cant understand how a such central and "must-work" feature can not work properly, sounds really weird ? To be able to render same preview files when openiing a project must make people furious ?
    Thanks for your answers, anyone else experienced these problems Robert mentions and if so, do someone know if there are any workaround or fix to cure this really enoying thing ?
    Will get back about the .mts files to hopefully get some further assistance
    Thanks

  • Quick link on the second page of a KM iView

    Hi everybody.
    I need some informations about an KM IView.
    I have a KM iview that displays some document in a folder of the portal. I have many documents in it, and the Iview is limited at 15 elements by page.
    I want to know if i can create a quick link or an html link on a particular page of the Iview. For example, i want to open the elements from 16 to 30 (the second page) of the iview by clicking on a link.
    Do you know if we can do it or not?
    Thanks.

  • Replace a substring inside a string, problem

    Hi
    I've a little and simple problem but I couldn't found a solution.
    My program is reading a file by lines, sometimes it receives a line like:
    03-05-26                                               Page: 1and that reprensents a date when doc was generated (left of line) and the page number (right of line). Sometimes, before date it receive an strange char (I guess it's a \r or a \n).
    Well I need to convert date from this US style to ES style (dd-MM-yy format) and then print the line as it was received.
    I know how to change date, but I've problems to parse this line and get an identical line after the process. I'm using split to split tokens and then change the date but when I try to print the line again, I noticed that I lose white spaces between date and page number.
    Also I probed with StringTokenizer with same results.
    I use to program with PHP and there is a strreplace function to do this job easy. How could I do the same with Java ?
    Thanks in advance
    <jl>

    Take a look at String.replaceAll and
    String.replaceFirst. These use regular expression to
    do their pattern matching. They're 1.4 and later
    methods.Thanks.
    I really dont know why I didn't saw it before ask :)

  • 11inch air turns off when sleep due to unknown problem/takes awhile to fire up

    Hello,
    Since the update to Mavericks i've noticed everytime i put my macbook air to sleep for longer than a few minutes.. it's shut itself off and when it fire up (after holding the power button for quite a few seconds) it comes up saying it turned off due to an unknown problem.
    This never used to happen, I bought the Macbook Air 11 inch in September so its still fairly new. Is there anything im missing here - everythings up to date. I dont know if i should take it to genius bar yet or if theres something i could try to fix it.

    You are not alone.  This is a very active topic.  See https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5495588?start=0&tstart=0
    The remedy mentioned several times in that thread is to reset SMC + PRAM and in check "Put hard disks to sleep when possible”.  It is not a perfect solution.  The problem reoccurs for some people.
    SMC reset: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    PRAM reset: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH4405
     > System Preferences > Energy Saver
    > Battery > uncheck “Put hard disks to sleep when possible”.
    > Power Adapter > uncheck “Put hard disks to sleep when possible”.
    If that does not do the job, go to an Apple store for a repair or replacement.
    Actually, given this is an intermittent problem for others, you may want to take it to an Apple store before you try to make it better to have it fail in their presence.  After that try the fixes and if the problem comes back you will have a documented case for Apple to repair or replace the unit.

  • Quick String / char  question

    Hi, i have to write a encrytion method for a assignment, it must take a string, move the characters on by a set number given by the user and return the result.
    public class Encryption
        int key;
        public Encryption(int k)
            key = k;
    public String encrypt(String si)
    si = si.toUpperCase();
    int i = 0;
    for (int index = 0; index< si.length(); index++);
    char c = si.charAt(i);
    int n = c - 'A' + key;
    char a = (char)(n + 'A');
    return si ;
    }it compiles, but what i need to know is how to i get my new chars (that have been moved the set amout) back into a string that is returned to the user, as i cant seem to find the code i need to do this???

    String result = "";
    Each time through the loop, you will want to add it to the result
    result = result + a;This is poor adviceimport java.io.*;
    public class Encryption{
       public static void main(String[] args) {
          new Encryption();

          int key = 0;
          try{

             key = Integer.parseInt(br.readLine());

          String encrypted = encrypt(toEncyrpt, key);
          System.out.println("Encrypted string : "+ encrypted);
          String decrypted = decrypt(encrypted, key);
          System.out.println("Decrypted string : "+ decrypted);
        public String encrypt(String s, int k){
           StringBuffer sb = new StringBuffer();
           for(int i=0; i<s.length(); i++) {
               int temp = (int) s.charAt(i)+k;
               sb.append((char)temp);
           return sb.toString();
        public String decrypt(String s, int k){

  • "Report a problem" takes you on a circular run-around

    I get my usual email from iTunes regarding my purchases, and for the first time there's a problem* (irrelevant to this post, but described below).
    1) I click "report a problem" in the email, which launches iTunes.
    2) I click "report a problem" next to the item in iTunes, and it takes me to a generic support page via my browser: http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/
    3) I drill down there to "Purchases & Downloads", click on the link "Reporting issues with iTunes Store purchases" to here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1933
    4) That tells me to do one of two things, both bringing me back around to a step above.
    a) For In-App purchases (which this was) "contact iTunes Store Support", the link which takes me here: http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/ww/ , and then selecting United States (English), and that takes me back to http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/ , where step 2 above took me.
    b) otherwise open iTunes, and do a bunch of things culminating in step 2 above.
    * The problem: I download a free app that relies entirely on using data from a web site, not affiliated with the producer of the app.  I attempt to use the app, and it fails.  There's a suggestion that I need to make an In-App purchase to enable that functionality, so I do.  It still fails, and on further investigation I find the reason is that the third-party web site the app relies on has blocked the app, so the app is permanently broken and useless.  I don't care about the 99 cents, but more the many 99 cent In-App payments by others for something entirely nonfunctional.

    Two questions:
    First Question:  Are the clickable links in my iTunes email, and also within iTunes (in Purchase History), which say "Report a Problem", supposed to allow me to Report a Problem, or only to lead me through a circular loop without any option to Report a Problem? (as they actually do, as described in my initial post)
    Second Question:  If the former, how?  (as described in sufficient detail in my initial post, they only do the latter)

  • I thought the lightning charger would charge quicker and not take 8 hours to reach 100% battery from dead?

    Is the lightning charger supposed to charge quicker?

    What older chargers?   The chargers are them same they have always been.  The only difference is the interface. Its a bit smaller. But the chargers produce the same amount of power.
    5watts for the smaller iPhone and iPad Mini chargers, and 12watts for the larger iPad charger.
    With that said 8 hours is bit too much. Unless it was completely discharged it should be around the 3 to 4 hour mark to go from 2 or 5% to 100%.  It takes longer if its completely discharged.
    If it continues to take this long, the best bet is to take it to an Apple store for evaluation. There may be a problem with the battery. If there is they should exchange it for free.
