RAS is starting forever

Hi guys, see if you can help me.
I am facing a problem with Web Intelligence. When I try to create a new report in WebI, i select the universe and then it's shows me an error message WIS 20370.
I know I have to enable trace and check it.
But I've noticed that Report Applicction Server don't start, it's always starting.
I verified the command line, and I noticed that the correct command line should be:
-fg -restart -name gsbod09.ReportApplicationServer -ns ap2ha156:6400 -pidfile /usr/sap/BOD/BOE09/bobje/serverpids/gsbod09_gsbod09.ReportApplicationServer.pid
But it is like this:
-fg -restart -name gsbod09.ReportApplicationServer -ns 22.1.41.9:50009 -pidfile /usr/sap/BOD/BOE09/bobje/serverpids/gsbod09_gsbod09.ReportApplicationServer.pid
The -ns parameter is wrong.
Do you how can I change it? Do you think that this is the real cause for the WebI problem?
We're working with BOE XI 3.1 SP2  on a Linux environment.
Thank you for all your help.
Best Regards,
Cesar

Hi Cesar,
I think this is more name resolution than Xvfb.  The Xvfb is actually dependent on name resolution as well so any issues you are seeing with them could be related as well.
Is this machine multi-homed?  How many IP addresses does it have?
Ensure that when you do a ping -a, that the correct IP Address is returned and vice versa:
ping -a ap2ha156
<Should return the IP address of the primary network adapter>
ping -a x.x.x.x
<where x.x.x.x is the IP address of the primary adapter.  This should return the same hostname as above>
Try taking it down to 1 IP address/network card if possible and try this again.
As for the -ns switch issue.  Check the ccm.config file in the /bobje directory for any reference to this 22.1.41.9:50009 IP/port.  Do you know what this IP address is and why the SIA is referencing it?
Webi does not use the Xvfb or RAS so I don't think your Webi issues are related to this.  Likely there is a common theme and the most likely candidate would be name resolution or some sort of configuration issue with this -ns switch.
Thanks

    Dear ,
We are facing some issues with jdbc sender adapter channel on production system
              Environment : XI 3.0 SP 20 + HP-UX 11.23 ia64 + Oracle 10.2
Sometimes it hangs and starts showing "Processing Started" forever on communication channel monitoring .
There is no error log for this.
If i stop it and then start it , no use.
If i copied this to a new one then it works.
I have found few SAP note like 1078420,1083488 , but my system is already at higher patch level.
Can you please advise me something as we are facing in production frequently.
    Regards,
    Sandeep

    Hi Sandeep,
This problem even we too faced in our project and thought of many stupid things finally found that the JDBC adapter is LOCKED.
Check in the Visual Admin >Cluster> "LOCKING ADAPTER"
we get a option of Display Locks .Check for an entry with
    NAME : $XIDBAD.JDBC2XI
reset the locks and restart the CC ,now it works fine.
Note 1083488 - XI FTP/JDBC sender channel stop polling indefinitely(04/04S)

  • Update Tasks remain in status = init / started forever. Doest not process

    Hello Everyone,
We have the FM ME_DB_UPDATE_INFORECORDS called in update task from one of our program
CALL FUNCTION 'ME_DB_UPDATE_INFORECORDS' IN UPDATE TASK
          EXPORTING
            i_changedocument = c_upd
          TABLES
            db_eina_u        = li_eina
            db_eine_u        = li_eine.
        COMMIT WORK.
But all these calls does not process. it queues up in SM13 and uses up all update WP and affects the whole system.
The update records in SM 13 stays with status init or started with the enqueue locks. This results in unresolved table locks on the EINA table.
The concerned program generates multiple of these update requests with results in piling up of unprocessed such update requests.

    Hello,
I only suggested SM12 because you said "I feel there is an enqueue problem".
I would just look for any locks, if you can reproduce the problem. It depends on the ones your method uses.
Can you tell if the method has been run successfully for those In Process steps? If so, you could try a Complete Manually.

  • Can not start data Collection service

I have installed Fabric Manager version 3.3.(4). In the Performance Web Client I can not start the service Data Collection is in starting forever.
I also could not stop it. I rebooted the server and the status for this service is in starting.
    Thanks,

Please provide more details like: Server OS, Java version, and what type of database you are using for the FM Server.  Have you considered using a newer version of FM Server?

  • Time Capsule & Clean Install iMac

    Hi
I have 750GB of data to backup onto Time Capsule for its first run. It will take several days to do the first run. If I manage to do this, can I do a clean install on my iMac and use the data on Time Capsule, or will I have to start again? What I'm aiming to do, is safely backup everything to Time Capsule, then spend time removing my files. At the end of that, I want to do a clean install of Snow Leopard. I had wanted to do a clean install, run Time Capsule, then add the files as needed. However, some of my files are huge iPhoto libraries that are up to 200GB! I have an external FW800 HD for SuperDuper! clone of the iMac. Apart from that, any advice is most welcome.

    wayne.andrews wrote:
I have the iMac, an external SuperDuper! HD clone of the iMac and the Time Capsule. The iMac is 75% full. Would it benefit from a clean install?
Doubtful, at 75%. First, your Mac automatically and continuously defrags any file under 20 mb. Second, unless your disk has been much more full, and you manipulate lots of large files, the drive won't be seriously fragmented.
How can I check the fragmentation of the iMac?
There's no OSX tool for that, since Apple doesn't think it's necessary. The 3rd-party tools tend to overstate the importance of any fragmentation they find.
At the moment, I am stuck. I have managed to transfer everything that I may need onto the iMac. Most of the data is from Apple's Backup application (where files were backed up onto CD/DVD). For this reason, I have many duplicated files. I don't know where to start.
Do you mean you copied the Backup files? Or used Backup to restore them? Are they Full or Incremental backups? Restoring from them can be tedious, error-prone, and "iffy." Have you ever done any Backup restores?
I could do a clean install and add the files as I need them. Alternatively, I could backup everthing I have now and delete the files. Two ways of doing the same thing - adding or removing. Either way, it's a huge task sorting out the duplicated files, and removing what I no longer need.
I could really do with some advice on how to sort through files - not how to do it, but more a guide to a good strategy. What is the easiest, pain-free way of managing a good de-clutter in small chunks?
It depends on what sort of things you're talking about. If it's 3rd-party apps, erasing and selectively restoring will probably be a nightmare. Many such apps, especially the ones that come with their own installers, put various things in various places, besides the app in your Applications folder. Unless you know what and where all those are, the app may not work right, if at all. Worse, you may not notice that for quite some time, until you try to use a feature you haven't tested. Also, there may be some "leftovers:" background jobs that no longer have what they need to run, so they continually start, crash, and re-start forever, filling up your logs and using lots of CPU.
If it's pure data, such as a very large video library, you likely won't have those sorts of problems, but it would also be much easier to just delete what you don't want.
Without knowing just how much of what sort of stuff you're looking at, it's hard to give better advice. If you have a 2 TB TC, then I'd say back it all up and start deleting; the TC should have plenty of room to keep the backups for a long time. But if you move or rename folders with a lot of content, they'll be backed-up again entirely, so you may fill up the TC rather quickly.
However you approach it, I'd be inclined to also make a full "clone" before starting; check it by booting and running from it to be sure everything's there and working, then put it "on the shelf" in case you need it in a week or a few months.

  • Firewire & Ethernet problem

    Hi all,
I'm fixing a 17" iMac G5 ALS with 512 mg running 10.4.9. The iMac don't recognize the firewire and ethernet ports. There's also a problem with the sleep function, it freeze the iMac and the beachball start forever. The iMac is slow to startup, 10-15 seconds slower than my PowerMac G4 733 mgz.
I reset the SMU with the button on the logic board, didn't make any change.
Does anybody have any suggestion on what to do????
    Thanks

    Welcome to Discussions -
try shutting down and unplugging and resetting the SMU that way, as detailed in the link, rather than using the internal button. Have you tried starting from the install disk, repairing permissions and repairing the drive? You can also run Hardware Test from the install disk and see what sort of state your drive is in.
    Please post back,

  • Is usng while(true) loop in run mthd of thread good idea 2 make it wait ind

    hi freinds.
sorry for writing short forms in my subject, but what i want to know is that is is using while(true) loop in run method of thread good idea to make it wait indefinately.
if not then what might be a good idea.
I Just need to Start a thread and make it wait indefinitely,
    thanks

No. "while (true) {}" is a horribly bad way to do
nothing, as that thread will use 100% of the CPU.
What does "wait indefinitely" mean? Surely it can't
mean "wait forever", but if it doesn't mean that then
I can't guess what it does mean. Do you want to wait
until some condition is true? Or do you want to wait
a random amount of time? More information would help.Hello Dr.Clap, read your comments then checked my task manager and found that indeed it occupies 100% of CPU usage. thats really horrible , even i dont want that . ok i will explain u what i am trying to do along with my program on how i have accomplished it . please correct me where i went wrong.
    My Requirement
my Application is deployed on JBOSS which has its JMS. now lets say i have defined a Queue named "MyAppQueue" and i know that all the senders whereever they may be will post there messages on this queue.
Now my responsibility is to write a MessageReceiver which is continously running and checking this queue for messages. whenever it receives a message it immidiately calls the messagesListener which processes the message.
So sow my requirement of Writing such MessageReceiver is that , it should always be in running mode(that means once i start it, it starts forever since this is going to be a REal time application) and continously checking the queue, as soon as some message comes it calls messageListener. and also that this messageReceiver should be fast , i mean coz many messages may come at once say 40-50 messages in a minute.
so please tell me how do i now write this MessageReceiver.

  • BOE XI R2 - Configuring RAS with Service user, RAS Fails to start...

    Colleagues:
Where would kbase article c2018785 be found?
I am configuring my BOE XI R2 to use End-to-End SSO via IIS using this document from Business Objects:
    Link: [https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/403cdf46-c63e-2b10-2997-978cb8ba59f0]
In this document, you create a service user under which certain applications run, including the Report Application Server.
There is a specific note on page 6 in the doc which states:
The RAS server may fail to start under this new service account. If you experience this issue, follow the steps outlined in the following kbase:
    Link: [http://support.businessobjects.com/library/kbase/articles/c2018785.asp]
Unfortunately, the link is out of date, and I have not found the article using the existing search tools.
I did use the -trace argument to the command line to start up the RAS service, and the output is follows:

Failed to load Report Application Server settings from the system registry.
    Detailed Message: Access is denied.
It seems my service account needs a certain permission to be able to load and read the registry for this application, and I'm sure this permission is discussed in the missing kbase article.
Could you please let me know what permission is required for this user on the OS? This is Win2003 x64 SP2.
Thanks, and have a good day

    Hi,
if this a permissions problem then just start +regedit*, go to
    My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Business Objects
select it, press the right mouse button and choose Permissions. Press the advanced button and assign your service account with full control at this point of the registry. Do not forget to select the +Replace Permissions Entries on all child objects ... + option.
You can also take a look at Notes 1199630 and 1201489 (this one is for CR 10 but it may be worth it to follow the instructions there) ( [https://service.sap.com/notes])

  • Crystal Reports Server XI R2 - RAS service will not start

We had a copy of Crystal Reports Server XI R2 running on a Windows 2003 SBS Server and the database running on SQL Server 2000 on the same box. We were forced to upgrade this server Windows 2003 SBS Server 2003 R2 with SQL Server 2005. The upgrade worked fine however after the upgrade we could no longer open reports in infoview.
We soon realised that the RAS(Report Application Server) service was stopped however we could not start it.
We tried doing a full uninstall(deleting the directory and registry info) and reinstall several times on the same server pointing to the existing database and trying to create a new database in both MYSql and SQL Server but again the same problem. While our licensing agreement means we can only install it on one server we tried on another and again we had the same issue.
We see several errors in the event viewer of the server, these are:
-Unable to create the Corba OSCA factory and register it on the eBus (Source:BusinessObjects_crystalras)
-Failed to register with the CMS 'Server Name'. Please make sure the CMS is up and running. Attempting an automatic retry. (Source: We see this error show on a fair few of the service after stopping and firing up services, but they seem to disappear)
-An error occurred while creating a Page Server subprocess.(Source: BusinessObjects_pageserver)
If I try firing the crystalras executable just for interest sakes I get a "No valid license found for this product" error.
We thought it may have been a license issue caused by the upgrade but have been told that the license key still appears to be valid.
    Any help is appreciated.

Hey did anyone ever answer your question, I have exactly the same problem 4 years later, sigh

iMac G5 (iSight) with 10.4.11:  Screen always dimmed. Starts at full bright and a second later dimms and stays like that forever.  Brightness controls work normally under this circunstance.  Please help !!!
Please don't tell me to adjust anything on the preferences, since I have tried all.  I think it may be anoter kind of problem, maybe hardware related or anything.
I ran the Hardware repair DVD and everything was ok, but when the imac restarted the screen was very lit again, but when it went sleep, when it went awake again the screen got dimmed again.  Because of that I think that the problem could be software related, but who knows.  Excuse my english.

I can't see another possible answer - the longer your machine is up, the more the power supply is stressed, it protects itself by dimming the screen to lower the draw on it.

Any thoughts, i'm open to any and all LOGICAL responses, thank you very much for ya'lls time ........Its just heartbreaking to see my iMac in this vegistated coma,The whole reason i bought a mac was cause I love them I have Apple EVERYTHING, so once again please help.

Try this: Switch off your iMac wait 10-15 seconds hold down the Option Key (alt) key then press the power botton but keep the option key down. This should show all the available options to boot from. I trust you have a full backup, Good luck.

    Hello Nazer_502,
I would be concerned too if my iPhone was acting this way.  It sounds like it is overheating and not holding a charge. I recommend following the steps listed below when experiencing an issue like this:
    Battery life seems short
Click ( www.apple.com/batteries/iphone.html) for tips on how to prolong iPhone's battery life.
Try turning iPhone off and then on again.
Connect iPhone to iTunes and restore iPhone.
If the screen shows a low-battery image, the battery is low on power and needs to charge for up to ten minutes before you can use it.
When charging iPhone, make sure to leave it charging until it is fully charged. You'll know the battery is fully charged when the battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen looks like this .
Note: When charging using a computer, don't connect iPhone to a keyboard. Also, the computer must be turned on and not in sleep or standby mode. If iPhone is connected to a computer that's not turned on or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPhone battery may drain.

  • Can't start MacBook Air––wheel turns around forever

I had my MacBook Air A Rev C 1.86GHz 120 GB powered on and on sleep for about a week. I was using my other MacBook Air and so left this MBA on sleep.
I decided to use the older MacBook Rev C Air again and I tried connecting the ethernet cable to it. The internet connection didn't work, so I restarted the computer thinking it might help.
However, the computer DOES kind of start and I get the apple logo and the light gray background but the wheel goes on forever, for 30 minutes.
When I tried Option-Start, I was able to get into the Windows partition fine, but when I tried Option-Start and selected Mac, I have the same problem––the gray screen and the wheel thing under the Apple logo going around for a while.
I never had any major problems with the computer in the past, and I never had this problem of starting the computer. It was a bit sluggish––would take 3 minutes to start up, but never as long as this. I have tried rebooting several times and it still does not work.
I should tell you that I pressed the "Shut Down" button for five seconds to shut down the computer.
Do you think that caused it?
How can I get the Mac OS back?
Once again, getting into Windows Bootcamp is fine, it's just the Mac part I can't access.
I have the hard drive saved on a backup.
Should I try reinstalling the OS? And do a clean install? And then put all the information back onto the computer using the backup drive?
Just checking here before I try that because that solution takes time.

I went into Bootcamp (Windows XP Prof) and looked at the Macintosh HD drive. I got 97.8 GB total size and then 425 MB free space.
Something happened when I connected the ethernet cord to the USB port and then connected the router. It mucked up my computer and swallowed up GB. I had about 10 GB spare before this happened.
That is probably why the computer can't start up and is stuck at the gray screen with the whirly thing going around forever––there is no disk space for it use its start programs.
I don't know how to clear the unwanted Gigabytes because I can only see Mac HD from Bootcamp.
    Any suggestions?
