Re: Debt Protection - Is Legit!

Debt protection scammed me and now they are trying to make me pay $313 or they will charge me interest and late fees. Bunch of scamming crooks. They say I signed up in 2010. I didn't carry a balance until I spent over $4000 in 2013. When I finally noticed this charge it was to late and they said because best buy already paid off my debt protection I would have to get the refund from Citibank. Needless to say they aren't refunding anything. I just can't figure out how a signed up for debt protection on a purchase in 2010, pay off that purchase in 2011, buy a new product in 2013 and they charge me debt protection for the new product. It's a scam and everyone needs to know about it

Hello Frignola,
Welcome to the forum. I can understand being upset about the extra charges you have on your account. I know it would be very frustrating to think you are caught up with you account, and then realize you have more charges to pay off.
As you may be aware, Citibank, N.A. is the issuer of your My Best Buy credit card account. It is however, my goal to assist our valued customers as best as I can; therefore, I will be reaching out to Citibank on your behalf to look into this for you. Using the e-mail you registered on the forum, I was able to access your information, and you should hear from them within 3 – 5 business days.
Thank you again for contacting us, and please let me know if you do not hear from them within this timeframe.
Sincerely,

  • BEST BUY CREDIT CARD DEBT PROTECTION SCAM!! BEWARE

I, like several other BB account holders that have written regarding this same exact issue, have been scammed by the debt protection service - for over $1000.
Upon signing up the the best buy card, I was somehow enrolled in the debt protection service. I certainly did not sign on for this service with any knowledge of doing so, and wasn't "asked" by a rep if I wanted the service.
Very long story short, I had been charged for this service without my knowledge, to the point where I now have paid over $1000 for it. As others have pointed out, I am to blame for not being more diligent in regards to analyzing my electronic statements - but for my extremely busy lifestyle, that is the purpose of auto-pay. I know what my payment is supposed to be, and I trust that is what I will be paying.
Once I realized that I had been charged for this service every billing cycle - I began calling Best Buy regarding this issue. My experience was identical to others who have experienced this debt protection scam. They pass me on to several different departments until I am beyond frustrated and exhausted from talking with all of these people and re-explaining my story over and over. Then in the end they always say that the issue will be looked into and resolved within 30 days. I've gone through many of these 30 day cycles. At an escalated level, they conveniently pass all blame onto Citibank as the single entity that controls the debt protection - so all responsibility is ignored by Best Buy.
I've had a horrible experience dealing with this, and despite all of the calls and promises of it being taken care of, I am nearing the end of my time with Best Buy. They are not going to work with me, and I am going to pay for this service and be done with Best Buy for good.
I'll probably receive a scripted response from a Best Buy "Social Media Specialist" as all of these identical complaints have received - stating in the message body "Citibank, N.A. is the issuer of your My Best Buy credit card account. Due to this, we don’t have access to their accounts". Again conveniently deflecting all call for action to Citibank. And I promise that Citibank and/or Best Buy will do nothing to resolve, or even try and help.
You can say that I'm at fault and have to deal with the consequenses of unknowingly signing up for this service and not analyzing my statements more thoroughly - BUT isn't it interesting that so many others have had this same exact problem with Best Buy Debt Protection? Is it all just a coincidence - and are we all just ignorant people who can't manage their accounts? I believe this Debt Protection is set up in a way to do exactly what it has done to me. To take money from people. Upon doing all of the electronic sign-up for the account, it's convenient to sign up for paperless statements - and if you don't watch closely, they will slip and extra charge in there for you.
For all new account holders - or if you are considering becoming an account holder - BE CAREFUL! Once they take your money they will have no sympathy for your situation, regardless of what it is.

    Hello edgars-
Credit cards can definitely be a double-edged sword.  While at times they allow for greater economic freedoms, they also can cause untold headaches as well.  I’m sorry to hear that in this instance, the account protection service on your Best Buy credit card is the cause.
Depending on how long ago you applied for your Best Buy credit card, the option to opt out or in for account protection would either have been a check box on the application or a sign off on the keypad in the store.  It’s disappointing to hear that at the time you applied, this particular section was not pointed out to you to make you aware of what you were agreeing to with the card.
As you’ve stated, while the Best Buy logo is on the card, Citibank, N.A. is the issuer of the card and we don’t have access to your account to make any changes or refunds to it.  However, it is our goal to try assisting our customers with concerns regarding the Best Buy credit card.  If you can send me a Private Message with your full name, phone number, and mailing address, I will communicate this concern to them for review.  Generally they should contact you within 3-5 business days of when I submit this information to them.   Please keep in mind that I cannot guarantee any particular outcome from that review.
You can send me a Private Message by logging into the forum and clicking on the button across from my name on this post.

  • What type of bag do you have?

Hello everyone, I am trying to decide which type of bag to get (sleeve, backpack, or side bag). So I was just wondering what type all of you have gotten and what your reason for getting it is. Thank you so much for any input as I it will greatly help me in my decision.

I don't own the ViperM2 by Booq yet, but I've seen it in action and will soon:
    http://www.booqbags.com/Detail.bok?no=542
It's designed for the MBP. So, it fits snug, is rigid and durable, and is formed with ridges for better impact protection. You can also unzip this sleeve quickly and can flip the cover back and leave the MBP inside to keep it protected while in use (or protect your legs if your MBP gets hot).
I recommend a sleeve of any sort because then you're covered for whatever situation your laptop may be transported in: a shoulder bag, backpack, seat of your car, etc.

  • A tab popped up wich said Mozzilla Security, the web page seemed to scan my computer, stated it was infested with several viruses, and that I should download protection immediatly. Is this legit?

A new tab opened up on my tool bar labeled Mozilla Security. The website looks like your security warning. But the security button is gray, McAfee doesn't recognize the site, and the web address does not contain Mozilla.com. The web address of this pop up page is: http://update89.modyett.co.be/index.php?Q57hGtS5bW5G7Hr+M0lEZy4rE7T40TcfocDyRAcjpCPVLS/PhAEpv1Hgq9vgx1qxsLunLyiXHnwwL5T3qX/CE0Q/ZRXJp+2mKYsC+kRq
Do I have a virus, as it states, or is this uninvited web page trying to install a virus? What should I do?

Just because it said Mozilla Security in the title bar does not mean it is from Mozilla as Mozilla nor the Firefox browser has ever done such a thing.
This sounds like one of those fake animated scanners which claims it is scanning your computer and then says you are infected with such and such. It then suggests to download something that will be what really infects your computer if using Windows. As long as you did not download and install this whatever.exe then you should be safe. Though you may want to scan your computer with whatever antivirus software you have with updated definitions just to be safer.
This sort of thing is even more obvious on being fake when Linux and Mac users can encounter these pages.

  • I just got an email offering protection from MacKeeper?  Is this  legit.?

Received from MacKeeper offering this app to speed up and clean up my MacBook Pro .
Anyone familiar?  Is it a credible application?

It is the closest thing to Malware available. Avoid it at all costs. If it were a good thing, you would know, and they would not have to send you spam to get you to buy it.
If you have already installed it, be sure to use its Un-Installer to remove it, or seek an online guide about removing it completely.

It has a yellow triangle next to it with a ! in it.

That is a legitimate message from Mozilla. Support has ended for Firefox 3.5.19. You need to upgrade to a newer version of Firefox. The hyperlink takes you to a download page for Firefox 4.0.1 and Firefox 3.6.17 is available here - http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html

  • CBE collections debt, or phishing scam?

    Hello,
I've been a verizon customer since 2006.  I've kept the same number, but switched plans twice (from family to individual a couple years ago, and from individual to prepaid very recently).  About a month after switching to prepaid, I started getting calls (up to three times a day) from CBE collections group about an outstanding debt from verizon wireless of ~ $35.00.  I've always paid my bills online, using autopay.  When I checked my online account (which I've had for years), my balance was zero.  I've been to both of the local stores, and both told me as far as they could see, my account balance was zero and in good standing.  I've called verizon probably half a dozen times (with hold times up to an hour and multiple dropped calls), and talked to both customer care and financial services.  Everyone has been very confused, and told me my account is in good standing, and I owe verizon nothing, and they didn't know how to help me.  The most recent customer care rep actually told me with certainty that this sounded like a scam to her, and I should block the numbers and report it to the police.
When I've talked to CBE collections, they've told me they can't give me any kind of verification unless I give them my verizon account payment password (!!!).  However, they assure me that they are 'not a scam'.
Given my recent plan switch and the fact that CBE collections has a partnership with Verizon, I'm 90% convinced this is actually a legitimate bill that is being handled very badly.  I hope it's in fact a phishing scam-- if it's real, I am extremely angry about how it's been handled. I am very seriously considering changing providers.
Under the circumstances, I am hesitant to pay CBE without some kind of verification from Verizon.  How do I go about getting a written verification that this is a legitimate debt, when customer care has no information?  If it's not, how do I get a written verification that I can use to challenge any damage that CBE has done to my credit score?

CBE Group - Debt Collection Solutions
They are a legit company. But I would not give any account password or social security numbers or verify anything with them.
They could be zombie debt collectors or collectors that have no right to your Verizon account.

  • Can I set up form results to be viewed in a password protected area?

    Hi,
I am trying to create a form to capture leads for my new lead capture website. I have a bankruptcy business and would like another, new website that I can capture bankruptcy leads from a form. A lead would, of course, be someone who comes to my site and is interested in contacting with an attorney to schedule a free consultation by filling out an online form - "name, state, county, debts, etc.)
What I would like to do is set up a nationwide site and sell, refer, give, trade? leads from other states to other local attorneys.
So, my question is, could I set up a form with FormsCentral that I could integrate with a password protected section of my website that the other lawyers could login to in order to check form results? Could it be set so many different users (ie lawyers advertising on my site) could login to check results for their personalized form (for example lawyer A in State A can log into his own private page to check results from Form A, lawyer B in State B can login to a private page to check results from form B and so on and so forth...) Would I need a developer to code this application? Any help would be appreciated.
Obviously this project was a larger than I expected.
    Thanks a lot!

We likely wouldn't be a good fit for this. You'll likely have to build a custom application (developer doing coding) to support your use case.

  • OS 7.1 legit availability UK

Legit OS 7.1 download is available from O2 UK and Telenor Norway, you can download sofware from either of these two networks. However, you must delete the vendor file before installing, unless you are "with" either of these two service providers, in which case you can leave it on your PC.
    Vendor file location :
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research in Motion\Apploader\Vendor.xml

Does anyone know when the official release will take place of OS 7.1?
OS 7.1has been officially released by RIM. Device operating system releases are "released" by specific carriers once they have certified and trained their support techs, but still, you are able to load to any carrier's same model by following the instructions below. I actually thought Vodacom has already released it as well...
You can install another carriers OS 7.1 release. See the link below for the download, and follow these simple installation instructions.
First locate your carrier and the OS file you wish to use.
    http://na.blackberry.com/eng/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
Do a backup of your device first, using Desktop Manager > Backup. Close Desktop Manager upon completion.
    1. Download the OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
    2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml."
    3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.
Note: Some users might worry they will void their device warranty by loading an OS from another carrier. There is really nothing to worry about. Please read more information on that here: http://www.port3101.org/power-users/296-blackberry-os-upgrade-including-betas-myths-dispelled.html

Anyway to confirm that they are legit?
    email they sent from is:
    iWork Team <[email protected]>

  • Is this email address legit?

I have send it to the phishing-address but I didn't get a reply and wanted to if anyone ever received a mail from this.
    I got an e-mail from
    [email protected]
and would like to know if this a legit address?
Because I did apply for job here but the e-mail looks suspicious.

This certainly does look like a legit apple-address. As was said before, all apple-addresses are [email protected] A spoofed address would be something like [email protected], for example, or like [email protected] (not saying that those are malicious addresses. Just using them as an example!!!!). The first one would not be from apple.com, but from apple-net.com, and the second one would be from a subdomain of net.com, in this case apple.net.com.
You have to be careful though if these addresses are in an HTML mail. If they are, the link "behind" themmight actually differ from what it says in the mail. You can check easily.Click on the link in the mail. That should open a new compose mail window. If it does, check the address in the To-field (if you have to by hovering your mouse on it). If that shows the same address, it is not spoofed in that way.

  • Seller protection ?

HelloI sold for a value of 150€ of items on Ebay. However, the buyer said he doesn't have bank checks anymore and want to pay with paypal. But as the buyer has no evaluation, and as this sale is about a very high amount of money (it's the equivalent of a monthly salary to me...), I'm quite suspicious about it. I was told about several scams made with paypal, and I was told paypal is always on the buyer's side, even when the buyer is a scammer, and never protect sellers. Then, I'd like to ask you some informations, so that I'll know if I can accept a paypal payment or if I should rather insist for a check payment.- Can the buyer cancel his payment after the money went on my account? Can he get his money back?- If there is no money left on my paypal account when the buyer cancel his payment or ask for a reimbursment, can paypal get the money from my bank account ?- If we had to open a litigation, what kind of proofs do I need to proove I did send the items ?- Can paypal protect me if the buyer is trying to scam me and tries to get his money back after I sent the items? Does paypal protect sellers from scamming? I'm not a professionnal, just a student trying to get some money, I really don't want to be scammed on this sale. Thanks in advance for any answer you can give to me. Also, I'm sorrry if my english is bad, that's not my natural language, but I thought I would get more answer on the english forum....

    - Can the buyer cancel his payment after the money went on my account? Can he get his money back? A buyer can't cancel a paypal payment but they can file a dispute for non receipt of item OR item received but not as described. With the latter there are always risks as if paypal find in their favour they may send a different item back to you and get a refund and keep the phone !!! If there is no money left on my paypal account when the buyer cancel his payment or ask for a reimbursment, can paypal get the money from my bank account ? No but what they do is put your account into negative and limit it until you pay them back, if you don't pay them back then they sell the debt to a recovery agency.  If we had to open a litigation, what kind of proofs do I need to proove I did send the items ? Trackable, signed proof of delivery to the buyers paypal registered address. Can paypal protect me if the buyer is trying to scam me and tries to get his money back after I sent the items? Does paypal protect sellers from scamming? Depends on the scam, paypal has seller protection but you need to read up on this yourself and then risk assess your transaction. Seller protection normally involves unauthorised transaction disputes or chargebacks. You want my advice?? If you can't afford to lose the money and are not sure of the buyer don't go ahead with the sale. Sell locally for cash on collection. JMHO                                   ********************************************** I give up my time to help you so a thank you or kudos would be cool.
Marking one of my replies as a solution would be appreciated if I sorted your problem.
