Re: Locking/Concurrency Options

Hi,
A really real life question. Just one question ... Did you check on the
performance? Cause what you end up here in option 2 is doubling the SQL in each
update.
Agree?

The way I look at it, unless you use some sort of active
locking/notification, you end up with one of two types of update:
Last Write Wins - No last-minute checking at all for timestamp
discrepencies, etc. Last update overwrites any previous changes.
First Write Wins - Check a timestamp or version number on the row and
disallow changes for subsequent users at commit time.
I ran in to a situation where we needed to simulate Last Write Wins on an
individual FIELD level, rather than row level.. In other words, two people
bring up the same Customer object on the screen, one person changes the
Phone Number and saves, and the other person updates the Zip Code and saves.
Both changes are reflected in the database.
Option 1:
When you make changes to attributes in the business object, keep track of
what you change and at commit time create a dynamic SQL statement which
updates only those columns in the table. Given that I dislike dynamic SQL
vehemently (has to do with Oracle parsing and the search/LRU algorithms in
the shared pool) I could not do it this way..
Option 2:
When you make changes to attributes in the business object, again keep track
of what you change. During commit, start a transaction and read the current
row "for update" in to a temporary object. Copy the modified data from the
real object in to the temporary object and write the temporary object back
out. Avoids dynamic SQL since both the select for update and the update
statement read/write every column and never change.
Comments?
Anyone have a better idea?

Hi again,
It is solved. I was getting a 0x24 error, which I couldn't see before because the report error was disable.
I've downloaded the Windows Vista Recovery Disc available [here|http://neosmart.net/blog/2008/windows-vista-recovery-disc-download/] and it recovered the system.
For safe I'm making a DVD recovery now. I didn't know this laptop had a recovery system only inside the HD.
Thanks

The only two features on the iPod that require the use of a combination code are the screen lock and the volume limit.
Unfortunately, there is no way to disable these features.
Here are the two relevant articles.

The screen lock locks the whole iPod, not individual features.

The phone will automatically re-appear when it connects to the Internet. However, don't get your hopes up, as thieves know this & will make sure your phone never re-connects so you can locate it.

  • Passbook show in lock screen option missing on starbucks

Is it just me, but when I re-added the starbucks passbook option back in to passbooks, my option for show in lock screen is missng.
I removed the starbucks option from passbook as it never worked for me using passbook.
Any idea on how to add the show in lock screen or did apple/starbucks remove the show in lock screen option?
    Thanks,

    Hi john991,
If you are having issues with passes not showing on your Lock Screen, you may find the following article helpful:
If your pass does not appear on the Lock screen, go to Passbook and select the pass there to scan it. Passes will not appear automatically if:
    Location Services is disabled
"Show on Lock Screen" turned off for that pass
The merchant does not support this feature

  • Can I lock restore option?

I wanted to be completely proof if someone steals my iPhone, so I locked the option to turn off "find my iPhone" in settings, and then I thought, the thief can simply restore my iPhone using iTunes and he's good to go,  even of apple locks it with a passcode he can just enter DFU mode and iTunes will be forced to restore, so my question is, can I just completely block the option of restoring in any way to keep "find my iPhone" turned on in any situation so a thief can't  turn it off?

Sorry, but there is no way to prevent someone from performing a restore on an iPhone. Such an option would probably not be practical since if something went amiss with your iPhone and locked it up, a block to the restore could prevent any hope of addressing a problem other than having the iPhone replaced. So it's not likely that such a capability would ever appear, though I can't say that at some point Apple won't come up with some other solution.
    Regards.

  • Synchronisation: Is there a possibility to lock some options of one category like "Text Editor" and let some free defineable?

In our department we want to synchronize the C/C++ settings. There is an Option to select that only these Options are synchronized.
The Thing is, not all these options are a MUST like they come with the synchonisation. Some are optional. Can the "master" pc lock them somehow, that the Client pc's see that some features are locked and some are free to Change? until now we do
not see a difference. We also do not get any visualisation if a property is not "default".
    Thanks in Advance!

    Hi Lifthrasil,
I'd like to know whether your question is related to Visual Studio Online(formerly Team Foundation Service). Please let us know where is the option that you can select to sync.
If you use Visual Studio Online for your projects, the properties of the project are consistent on client machines if you don't make changes or check in the changes before getting latest on other machines. If you still have concerns, please elaborate more
details about your scenario with screenshots. Thanks for your understanding.

  • Lock screen option on the ipad

why did you guys get rid of the lock screen on the ipad it was really a good option to have

Wow - you mean how do you lock the screen orientation. I would have never guessed that. You can still lock the screen. If the side switch didn't do it - it is in the task bar at the bottom when you double tap the home button and swipe to the right. Read this.
System sounds can be muted and controlled two different ways. The screen lock rotation can be controlled in the same manner as well.
Settings>General>Use Side Switch to: Mute System sounds. If this option is selected, the switch on the side of the iPad above the volume rocker will mute system sounds.
If you choose Lock Screen Rotation, then the switch locks the screen. If the screen is locked, you will see a lock icon in the upper right corner next to the battery indicator gauge.
If you have the side switch set to lock screen rotation then the system sound control is in the task bar. Double tap the home button and in the task bar at the bottom, swipe all the way to the right. The speaker icon is all the way to the left. Tap on it and system sounds will return.
If you have the side switch set to mute system sounds, then the screen lock rotation can be accessed via the task bar in the same manner as described above.
This support article from Apple explains how the side switch works.

  • Locking out options?

I've recently purchased an ipod Nano for my daughter who is mentally handicapped. She quite enjoys it but keeps adding a password and making some other really bizarre changes. Are there ways to lock out features so that she can't accidentally change things yet still allow her to push buttons and scroll around?
I'd appreciate any help or suggestions. Thanks.

  • EBay Locked Verizon iPhone 4S - GSM locked SIM - Options?

I am looking to purchase an iPhone 4S on eBay, where the iPhone is a Verizon CDMA "locked" phone (which is OK as I plan to try it out on Tracfones newer BYOP program (Bring Your Own Phone). I have, or always do check, the iPhones "IMEI / MEID" number with Tracfone/Verizon to see that it is accepted and "clean".
One iPhone 4S I'm now interested in, the owner says the iPhone 4S is "locked" as far as the GSM goes (SIM card use, and the iPhone does not come with the SIM card). Therefore, I would be able to sign-up with Tracfone for the "CDMA" use (U.S. use), with no problems (as Tracfone uses the Verizon network) ….. However, on trips to Canada, Mexico, or overseas would I be unable to use the iPhone 4S, because the SIM "GSM" is still "locked"?
What is the best solution to possibly "unlocking" the SIM card "GSM" on the iPhone 4S?  Is this something I would be able to do once the phone is in my possession, or not possible? ... as I am beginning to research is probably the case.
I know the Federal Government has issued new rules on the "locking" and "unlocking" of phones, but without being the original owner, or Verizon account holder on the eBay phone, I am concerned that if I where to purchase such a "locked" GSM SIM card phone …. that I will be stuck with one that will only have use in the U.S., and not when I'm possibly traveling outside the U.S.
Any assistance or experience with this issue would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you

Buy an iPhone that's already carrier unlocked.
Don't waste your time doing otherwise.
Because only the original carrier can officially unlock the iPhone AND if you qualify.

  • Lock Preferences option goes away after reboot

After I lock changing Energy Saving preferences it gets unlocked again after I reboot and enter password on login screen! That's how Mac OS is secure?

The problem is that sometimes Mac OS X doesn't turn off my display after idle time specified at System Preferences, so it shows me screensaver and keyboard blacklight all the time (only reboot helps). Moreover the lock can't be closed at the time of this issue (it gets unlocked instantly after i click lock).
