Re: Transaction Metrics

Does anyone have any transaction scripts that they use to collect metrics?
I've been asked to give transaction (load and processing) metrics on the database. Does Oracle have any tools available that will do this?
Management wants to know at what during the day the processing is heaviest, lightest. How many transactions does the database process per day, per hour, etc.
Thanks,
Des

Hi,
There are two types of data -
1. Master data - They are not updated frequently and holds the major information.  It serves as a link between different modules.  E.g. Customer master data / Vendor master data
2. Transaction data - They store data frequently and are also accessed frequently.  Daily activities are stored here and the data is very huje.  Retrieving information from these has to be handled with care.  E.g. daily accounting entries that we make forms the transaction data.  E.g. BSEG table holds accounting data at line item level.
Hope this clarifies your question.  <i>Pls. assign points.</i>

Sridevi

  • Transactional Metrics for Status Changes

I'm using the Plant Maintenance module in PR4, with SAP GUI 720 Final Release, if that helps.
Does someone know where I can start to build metrics regarding the quantity per time period of items that went from one user and/or system status to another?
For example, during the week of 8/29(Mon 8/29 - Sun 9/4) how many maintenance orders went from user status AUTH (or PNPG) to PLND?
This is my first post on these forums, so if I'm in the wrong place or need to search through some other place before I ask questions like this, please point me in the right direction.
    Thank you,
    Tim

It would be helpful if you told me what the right forum is. Where should I post this question?

  • OBIEE: REPORT FROM 2 FACTS WITH ONE SHARED AND ONE UNSHARED DIM; POSSIBLE??

    Hi All,
We have a typical scenario to build a report from 2 subject areas(ideally from 2 facts)
Here is the Scenario: Creating a report which based on two facts(2 Subject Area's) and one common dimension and one unshared dimension.
    Example
    ======
Dimension Date is common between Fact Transaction and Fact Credits.
Dimension Credit Type is applicable only for Fact Credit.
We have to build a report with the below mentioned attributes/metrics
    Dim Date. Attribute (*Common Dimension*)
    Fact.Transaction.Metric
    Fact. Credit .Metric
    Dim.Credit Type. Attribute (*Unshared Dimension*)
Is this is possible in OBIEE..?
    Thanks,
    Govardhana

Yes, you must use measure levels. Set the column level of each measure from the Transaction Fact to Total for the Credit Type dim.

  • How to install 10g diagnostic and tuning pack

    Hi,
am new to 10g. in 9i there was a seperate CDs for diagnostic and tuning packs. But in 10g we didn't got any CD for this. So is it installed by default with 10g?. if yes is there any configuration required for using these packs. If it is not installed by default where i can get this?.
    Thanks in advance
    M.SUdhakar

    Hi
    These are not separate anymore.
In Grid Control go to Setup -> Management Pack Access to set them up.
Also see Chapter 2 in http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B14117_01/license.101/b13552/toc.htm
Unfortunately, Oracle don't appear to have migrated all of the functionality of Diagnostics Pack and Tuning Pack to Grid Control, especially for databases < 10g. eg. the very useful Response Time Per Transaction metric is only available for 10g databases. Also, the graph viewing functionality looks poor.

There is another way but I think it's more complicated.
After reading the file you can use a java code (java embedded activity) and split the file.
For each part of the split you can PUT by FTP the file with append mode. That way your transaction will run in few cycles with less time.

Not sure if you got the plug-in working. If not, read on...
The error is due to failure in internal computation of the SQL Server Host related information.
    Ensure that
    1. All pre-requisites (specified in SQL Server plug-in Installation Guide) are satisfied
    2. Provided property values for discovery of the SQL Server target are correct
    - JDBC URL has correct port number
    - If you are using older version of SQL Server plug-in, the name of SQL Server
instance that you provided is correct

  • How to avoid transaction overhead in oracle ?

    Hi ,
My database has 85 lakhs records already, during working hours,in single minute 20 records are being inserted into my table.at the same time some users trying to fetch the data from same table .so after long wait ,i m getting script time out error . as for my knowlege oracle will not support ALTER SESSION SET ISOLATION_LEVEL READ UNCOMMITTED. is there any other way to read the data from table irrespective of insert/update/delete. i am using dynamic queries in storeprocedures to fetch the data from table.any suggestion would be very helpful . Thanks in advance.

    Boss wrote:
My database has 85 lakhs records already, What on earth is a lakh? And no, telling me again won't make me remember it as I use normal English metrics daily. I suggest that you use the same when posting in a public English forum.
during working hours,in single minute 20 records are being inserted into my table.at the same time some users trying to fetch the data from same > table .so after long wait ,i m getting script time out error . That is an application problem and not an Oracle problem. Row locks are explicit locks that are caused by application SQL. Not by Oracle due to lock escalation (that does not exist in Oracle).
So a row lock means that one application says it wants to change that row - which means other application processes can read that row (readers are not blocked). However, any other application process that wants to lock that same row for change will be blocked and needs to wait for that row to be unlocked.
Oracle locking is in a nutshell as simple as this.
If you are "seeing" different behaviour, then your application code is the cause of the problem. Not Oracle.
And I would not be touching Oracle transaction isolation levels to fix problems in application code.
Is there any other way to read the data from table irrespective of insert/update/delete. No. Not needed. A row lock NEVER blocks a select on that row. Oracle provides read consistency despite locking of rows and tables. This is called multi-version consistency control.
i am using dynamic queries in storeprocedures to fetch the data from table. And that is where your code and your design fails. <b><font color="red">Dynamic code is WRONG.</font></b>*
Why is it (almost ways) wrong? Never mind the fact that 99% of developers are incapable of designing and writing dynamic code (based on OTN postings here), relational data models are not dynamic. Not when correctly designed.
<i>* Obviously dynamic code is not always wrong. But as far as the average skill level go of developers that post here, it is.</i>

  • Metrics "Database Time Spent Waiting (%)" is at ... for event class "Commit

    Hi guys
I'm getting this warning every 20 minutes from Enterprise Manager 10g: Metrics "Database Time Spent Waiting (%)" is at 67.62891 for event class "Commit". My database is an Oracle 10g 10.2.0.4 (Linux x84_64) with dataguard, one physical and one standby networked at 100Mbit. I have 3 groups of 50M redo log with a low volume of transaction for now. Here are some metrics numbers:
    SQL> select sum(seconds_in_wait),event from v$session_wait group by event;
    SUM(SECONDS_IN_WAIT) EVENT
    121210 SQL*Net message from client
0 Streams AQ: waiting for messages in the queue
18 wait for unread message on broadcast channel
6 LNS ASYNC end of log
    30 jobq slave wait
    37571 rdbms ipc message
    384 smon timer
    35090 pmon timer
I tune the my listerners for Dataguard using the documentation. I don't know what to tune anymore, is someone has a clue.
    Thanks,
    Chris

I'am also getting this message at a regular time:
Metrics "Database Time Spent Waiting (%)" is at 64.09801 for event class "Network"
The report, I was sent only to indicate the time spent on: SQL*Net message from client
I believe that these metrics are explained here (near the bottom of the page):
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/em.102/b25986/oracle_database.htm
There are only two wait events in the Commit class (on 11.1.0.7):
    log file sync
enq: BB - 2PC across RAC instances
log file sync waits happen when sessions issue a COMMIT or ROLLBACK. Sessions will wait on this event until LGWR completes its writes to the redo logs (LGWR will likely wait on the event log file parallel wriite while waiting for the write to complete). I believe that your DataGuard configuration may contribute to the long waits experienced by LGWR, and it may be made worse by the network connection.
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/server.111/b28294.pdf
"Maximum availability - This protection mode provides the highest level of data protection that is possible without compromising the availability of a primary database. Transactions do not commit until all redo data needed to recover those transactions has been written to the online redo log and to at least one standby database."
So, if Maximum availability is configured, the sessions will have to wait for the redo to be applied to the remote database.
At the system-wide level you will almost always be able to ignore the SQL*Net message from client wait events. At the session level this wait event has a more significant meaning - the client computer is not actively waiting on a response from the database instance - the client is either sitting idle, or performing client-side processing.
Sybrand, if he joins this thread, will likely be able to provide a more complete answer regarding DataGuard's contribution to the Commit wait class.

  • SRM User Metrics

    Dear SRMers,
    System Information : SRM 5.0, ECC 6.0
I am looking for the following SRM metrics information in the system:
    1. The number of users with ability to access the SRM System
    2. The actual users accessing the system(Creating Shopping carts etc).
Please let me know where I can find this metrics nformation in SRM.
    Thanks in advance.
    Points will be rewarded.
    Best Regards,
    Bob

    Hi
<u>Have you tried using Standard SAP transactions - <b>SM04</b> and <b>PPOMA_BBP</b> in this case ?</u>
<b>You will get both the required details in this case.</b>
    1. The number of users with ability to access the SRM System
(All users created in Organizational plan using <b>PPOMA_BBP</b> transaction)
    2. The actual users accessing the system(Creating Shopping carts etc).
(using SM04 transaction, all the users using SRM will be using transaction names starting with BBPSC* (like BBPSc01, BBPSC02, BBPSC03, BBPSC04, BBP_MON_SC, BBPBWSP, etc...)
    Hope this will definitely help.
    Do let me know.

  • Tracking Transaction Code Usage

    Hello All -
I am looking for a way to track all  transaction codes that a User uses in a day and the duration in time the user's ID is in the trans code.     Is there a way to measure this kind of metric?    We need this to track user efficiency.       If this is something that should be written in a report,  I do not want to use the Change tables (CDHDR or CDPOS).   I am looking for a transcode or method similar to a trace.
If this is not the correct forum to post my question please direct me to the correct one.
    Thank you,
    LP

    Dear LP
Your basis team can assist you in this regard as they would be controlling all such functions.  Check with them.

  • UOM - Metric vs. Imperial

    Good afternoon,
We have two offices, one in Switzerland, the other in Canada.  The item in question was set up on the system by Canada and the UOM is inches.  We know that we can set up UOM conversion for metric to imperial, but we have another issue.
When the Swiss users go into any of the screens to display the item, it defaults to the imperial UOM rather than metric.
Short of setting up a new item, or remembering to change it on the screen, is there a way to set up an item so it will display a UOM based on the plant?
Thanks for your help and let me know if more information is required.
    Kristine

No, SAP does not have splant specific stock keeping units.
You can have order units (info record)  and goods issue units by plant, but the base unit of measure is unique to the material - globally.
The decision metric vs. imperial is one that has to be made long before going live and needs to be tested (by the people who have to deal with the change) and communicated to everyone.
If no transactional document was carried out for the material then you can change the unit. but if you had already a PO, or movement, then it is better to create a new material rather than going to all the archiving stuff to be finally able to change the unit.

UgurProbably what you would want to do in this case is to first determine which wait events are in that event class:
    {code}
    SELECT
    NAME
    FROM
    V$EVENT_NAME
    WHERE
    WAIT_CLASS='Commit';
    NAME
    log file sync
enq: BB - 2PC across RAC instances
    {code}
If you are not using RAC, the second of the above wait events probably does not apply. Next, you need to determine what the "log file sync" wait means, so you might do a Google search of the Oracle documentation. Assume that you are using Oracle Database 10.2.0.x - you would then search for:
    {code}
    site:download.oracle.com "log file sync" 102
    {code}
In my search, the first link was a page from the Oracle Database Performance Tuning Guide:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14211/instance_tune.htm
That page contained the following quote:
    "log file sync
    General area: I/O, over- committing
Possible cause: Slow disks that store the online logs, Un-batched commits
Look for: Check the disks that house the online redo logs for resource contention. Check the number of transactions (commits + rollbacks) each second, from V$SYSSTAT."
Excessive waits for log file sync may also be caused by lack of available CPU time - an overloaded CPU.

  • Unable to create a Siebel Transaction w/ high interactivity

    Hello,
I am trying to configure a high interactivity Siebel service.
When I try to record the transaction, I have the feeling that nothing happen... nothing is recorded.
in the help, it's said "Make sure To have AutoOn on the URL" : what does it mean ?
    Thanks in advance,
    Regards,
    Vincent Delabre

    Thanks Chung.
I set my parameter at the OM level. and I found a doc saying that the URL should be :
    http://my_server/loyalty_fra/start.swe?SWECmd=AutoOn
So I clicked on "start", the IE window open, I enter my URL, login, browse, close my siebel session (disconnect), and then click on "stop" in the EM.
I don't see any details at this moment from the transaction I made, even if when you create a manual "Web Application", you see the details for each http step... Is it normal ?
Anyway, I consider that my transaction has been recorded, I complete the few information asked (metrics, beacon etc...), and validate.
Then I go to the detail of my Application Service, but it appears as "Status Pending". I try to "verify service test" of the Siebel Transaction, but I have an error message :
SIEBEL8_Beacon : Error occurred when trying to connect agent.
But my beacon is well set, I think (I checked it and asked it to check a simple URL, everything's OK).
The "Play" button open a page with a http 404 error.
In fact, I really think I did not record any transaction.
    What do you think ?
    Thanks in advance,
    Regards,
    Vincent

  • BPEL Transaction Inactive : Instance terminated without handling the Error

    Hi All,

    Hello,
You can't catch the roll back exception directly. It will rollback your transaction and because of that it will not get in the catch block.
To solve this you can create a new BPEL to do the DB insert. Invoke that BPEL with a new transaction. Catch the Database error in the first BPEL
    Example:
      <component name="InsertData" version="2.0">
        <implementation.bpel src="InsertData.bpel"/>
        <property name="bpel.config.transaction">requiresNew</property>
        <property name="bpel.config.inMemoryOptimization">false</property>
        <property name="bpel.config.completionPersistPolicy">On</property>
      </component>
In this example I have all my logic in the "SyncSypplierMaster" and then I invoke the BPEL "InsertData" (with the property <property name="bpel.config.transaction">requiresNew</property>) to insert in the database. I catch the error in the "SyncSypplierMaster" BPEL where I have the "InsertData" invocation.
This works because SyncSypplierMaster" is in a different transaction.
Note: If you are inserting in multiple tables and the error is in a child table you will not catch the DB error message also. If this is your case, I recommend you to investigate what is the patch required to solve this problem.
    Best Regards,
    Daniel Dias
