Ready to switch

Why does Verizon continue to call another number besides mine on my account in regards to late payments. I have repeatedly told Verizon to call my cell number but to no avail.

Oh no! We really don't want you to switch due to the calls being made to the incorrect number. Are you saying you don't get any of the calls? They all go to a different number that is on the account? If this is the case, we can certainly have your number listed as the contact number.

  • Gettting Ready to switch from PC to MAC-Can I use my back-up catalogue?

Hi!  I am getting ready to switch from PC to MAC.  My pics and back-up catalogue files are on an external hard drive.  I am wondering if I can just use an up-to-date back-up catalogue to place in lightroom on my new MAC and then be up to speed.  Will that work?
    Thanks so much, Leora

Yes, this should be fine! You may wish to give your catalog (the .lrcat) a new name (prefix) when you first copy it to your Mac. This will force build a new Previews folder on the new machine, sometimes a very good thing; sometimes wholly unnecessary.....

  • Getting ready to switch from Windows

I was an old Apple user, from the Apple II to the Mac LC II, then I went to the dark side
I am now ready to come back, I want to get a Mac Pro, however everyone is telling me not to jump in right now because the product is quite old (March 2009) and that this is the longest the Mac pro ever went without update. Frankly this is scaring me a bit, is Apple planning to drop the line? How long before the next version is available?
My PC is about to die and I need to switch soon, but I don't want to buy something that expensive if a new model is just around the corner, and at the same time I can't wait another two months with this crappy PC.
My choices are to get the older Mac Pro now, wait a few weeks to see if the new one comes out, or get another PC...

Buy when you need a system.
Quite old...? other than high end Gulftown. Not like you were talking about 2006-era desgin.
And the only other thing lacking, is stock OEM graphic and whatever Built To Order.
Use to be you had lots of choices to pick from in Specials bin but right now, slim pickings and shelf is bare!
    http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/specialdeals/mac/mac_pro
Even the stock quad 2.66 / GT120 which is about what any of your X58 PCs offer (but without the over-clocking).
New... I could, and have, written extensively about why "new" isn't always better. Whether it was 2009 (and fix didn't come for 8 months), or 2008's early disaster (freeze on wake from sleep; new hardware + new OS + nothing was updated for all three, and graphics issues and performance is an on-going battle).
Bleeding edge... I agree that waiting is something helpful, pinch and save, plan, but not if yours is about to die!
Otherwise, I'd look at doing your own new build and still have backup PC for Windows 7; and you can run Windows 7 quite nicely on Mac Pros.

  • Ready To Switch to Tiger

Well, I have waited 2 years to do it but I think I am ready to buy and install Tiger. I am presently running Panther on a PB G4. I would like to have a tutorial on installing over Panther and some helpful hints on backing up my music from iTunes. Does Tigert format the HD before it installs? I am open to any and all suggestions. Thanks.

    > Does Tigert format the HD before it installs?
Are you aware that Leopard is expected to be released sometime this spring?
    http://www.apple.com/macosx/leopard/index.html
The Tiger retail install package includes the following install methods:
    Upgrade
Archive & Install - with an option to preserve user and network settings.
    Erase & Install
Tiger does not format the HD before it installs since formatting a HD completely erases the HD.
If you choose the Upgrade or Archive & Install method selecting preserve user and network settings, all user and network settings, user data and 3rd party applications are transferred to the new system.
Using the Erase & Install method does as indicated - it completely erases the HD first and then installs Tiger and the applications included on the Tiger install package only. What is included with the Tiger retail install package is included here.
    http://www.apple.com/macosx/techspecs/
This link provides a brief overview of the install options.
    http://www.apple.com/macosx/upgrade/
Regardless the install method chosen, you are smart to backup all important data beforehand.
Assuming you are using the current iTunes version, you have a couple of backup options. At the iTunes menu bar, go to File and select Back Up to Disc. This process backs up to CD or DVD media - if you have a SuperDrive required to burn to DVD media. There are 3 options to choose from and you should choose the first.
Or you can backup your iTunes folder at Home > Music > iTunes.
After creating your backup of desired data, disconnect all external peripheral devices except for a keyboard and mouse - if such is used with your PB. Insert the Tiger install disc and select Restart from the Apple menu. At the startup chime, press and hold the "C" key until your PB boots from the install disc. Select your language and at the Installer prompt/selection, navigate to Disk Utility via the Installer menu bar.
Select Macintosh HD in the list of drive and volumes and under the First Aid tab, select Repair Disk. If any problems are reported and successfully repaired, run repair again until no problems are reported. Afterwards, select Repair Disk Permissions from the same location.
When finished, quit Disk Utility and the focus will return to the Installer.
I've always preferred the Archive & Install method selecting preserve user and network settings. The Tiger OS and all included applications are installed new and all user and network settings, user data and all 3rd party applications are transferred to the new system.
The old system is archived and saved as a previous system folder. This archived previous system folder cannot be used to boot or run the computer from. It contains user and network settings and data from the old system which can be used if something did not successfully make the transfer which has never been a problem for me using this install method to install Panther over Jaguar and Tiger over Panther on my old TiBook.
After confirming all user and network settings and user data was successfully transferred (you may want to wait a week or two), you can and should safely delete the archived previous system folder to free up hard drive space.

  • Todd Kopriva - Request from FCP editor ready to switch

    Hi Todd:
As an editor for 30  years (CMX, Avid, Avid DS, FCP) I am always  looking for the best apps  to use in my work. After Effects and Photoshop  have always been at the  top of the list. After seeing the great work  done on PP ( and getting a  sense of where FCP is going), more than ever I  am considering   switching.
If you search the web, you will see I have been  unsatisfied with the  third party support for PP, especially when it  comes to transitions.  They have a definite place with certain kinds of  projects I work on.
I have tried to act as a catalyst in  encouraging developers currently  supporting FCP to support PP. This  includes Noise Industries (FX  Factory) and  Klaus Eiperle (a German  developer who make CGM plugins)
    http://www.cgm-online.com/eiperle/cgm_screenshots_v4_e.html).
Both vendors products would fill a void in PP capabilities. Klaus   expressed interest but said he had no contacts with Adobe. Please help   me strengthen PP's position in the market by enhancing this lacking  area.
I have done extensive research and testing of the  current plugins that  involve transitions (i.e.Sapphire, SpiceMaster,New  Blue) and found them  to be severely lacking in several areas. These  include shortcomings like  pedestrian effects, bad coding causing slow  rendering (to accomadate multiplatform use), limited options  for  control and variation of the transition or exorbitant pricing for a   very few effects.
Anything you could do will be appreciated.

    Hi lasvideo,
It's great to have you working to attract new third-party developers to the Creative Suite platform.  As Colin mentioned, the SDK forums are a fine place for developers to ask general questions on using the SDKs.  If needed, my email is also in the PPro SDK PDF documentation right at the end of the first chapter.
For developing effects plug-ins, the After Effects SDK is the recommended route.  For video transitions that can be applied between two clips, the Premiere Pro SDK has a transition API.
Regarding Noise Industries, we do have one specific feature request from them to support multiple PiPLs (and therefore multiple plug-ins) in a single binary.  This is not a dealbreaker for most developers, but perhaps this is more important for their needs, or perhaps their product roadmap is different than other developers.  As Todd mentioned, _many_ other effects, both internal and third-party, are developed using the After Effects API.  And version over version, we continue to improve upon the AE API support in Premiere Pro.
Has CGM worked with proDAD (another German company that developers Premiere Pro plug-ins) in the past?  Because some of the CGM effects look similar to proDAD Adorage.  One of their plug-in sets is even called "CGM Power".
    Cheers,
    Zac

  • I'm about ready to switch to Verizon!!

Send a private message to with your account and contact information and someone will get in touch with you.

Hi. First off, I've been a loyal AT&T wireless customer For 15-16 years now. I've been through many company name changes, U.S. cellular, Bell South, Cingular, AT&T, maybe more, but I have had it with being on the phone hours and hours trying to make this company understand my issues. I have bought who knows how many phones, have had who knows how many different plans, have never had my service disconnected, and have been late maybe a couple times throughout. I have four devices in service. Well three at the moment.
I downgraded my plan from 15gigs to 10gigs about 6 months ago,(I've gone up and down many times) when I did, my next bill was $100 more, which makes no sense, and of course I did not pay it. I've been on the phone with customer support for hours and hours, wasting life. Since that bill, I've been charged $5 a month late fee every month, which I will NEVER pay. I need help getting through the crap of being transferred from this person to that person and never accomplishing my goal. Can anyone tell me how to get to someone who can meet my demand of either taking all of that off of my account, or giving me a date to close my account, and switching to Verizon, who of course says that they will pay AT&T those charges if I'll switch. I need a contact other than the 1-800 customer service number or the 600 number
Thanks, and sorry to ramble on

  • After over a decade, I think I'm ready to switch from Verizon.

I lost unlimited when I upgraded, and data costs are ridiculous.
I upgraded in April of 2013.  I really wanted a 4G phone because my 3G Droid X wasn't enough for my internet wants.  I found out unlimited data was no longer being offered, and I could only buy a limited plan or pay $600+ for a Galaxy S3 which was about to be obsolete (S4 was out already).  Given no other options at the time, I went ahead and paid more money for less product (data) and got my new phone.   Well, the honeymoon was over pretty quickly.  I found 4gb was barely enough for what I was accustomed to using, and certainly not enough for what I wanted to use with my newfound 4G speed.
Couple 'paying more for less' with the fact that friends and co-workers were somehow able to keep their unlimited and upgrade phones at discounted rates, and I had a real bad taste in my mouth.  Well its August of 2014, and that taste is still there.  Paying $100/month has become really tiresome for 1 phone.  A cell phone just shouldn't cost that much in my opinion.  So now I'm doing serious research into other carriers, and even pre-paid plans.  A simple Google search has shown that Verizon doesn't really need to care about it's customer's concerns, thanks to their near-monopoly on coverage for the past decade.  Well that monopoly has changed quite a bit, and Verizon has not.
I want unlimited data.  I don't care if it gets throttled after a certain point.  I just want unlimited data back.  I don't want to pay more than $70/month total for my 1 line plan.  I don't need much voice or text.  There are no plans to accommodate my wants.  Other carriers do have plans to accommodate my wants, and have 4G coverage in my area.
I've been a loyal-paying customer for a very long time, but I feel like that has no value to Verizon.  So in a way, this is a final cry for help from Verizon.  Will they do anything to retain a good customer?  Do I have any options, other than to switch carriers?

    twizted_3kgt wrote:

Probably not. Good luck with the new carrier.

  • Since latest upgrade I cannot "print" or show "print preview" from any web page. This is true of both of my printers and I have followed directions on plug-ins and have reinstalled Firefox etc. I am about ready to switch to Internet Explorer! w

Since upgrading Firefox, it doesn't respond when I click on print and/or print preview while displaying web pages.. No error message, just no response. I tried using both my printers..a HP and a Canon and get no results with either. I have no problem printing from any other place (including "Print" instructions within web pages, usually). I have recently upgraded my desktop (Dell Vostro 220) to Windows 7 and it went smoothly. The Firefox upgrade came at about the same time, so I don't know if Windows 7 is part of the problem. I need be able to print from the screen of web pages!

    Hi jjoyceeric,
Have you looked at the Knowledge Base article [[Firefox prints incorrectly]]? There is some good troubleshooting information in there. I would suggest that you try resetting your print settings.
    Hopefully this helps!

  • I hate SOOO many things about firefox 4 that I'm ready to switch to another browser. The new version is ridiculous!! Y'all are looking more like Microsoft with this one!

    (1) I can't give feedback because you keep telling me i don't have the latest version. I DOWNLOAD/REINSTALL and you contniue to tell me the same thing!!!
    (2) I can't stand not being able to go back by clicking the arrow. I keep having to right click and select where I want to go!
    (3) I exited through the menu to save my active pages and when I reloaded, it started over!!!
    (4) I continually have to turn off the bookmark toolbar and turn it back on to get my buttons back!
    (5) Whenever I select "open in new window" a blank window opens and nothing loads!
The advantages that I had when using firefox are gone! I will be trying other browsers. I think it's time to try chrome or safari.
It's really too bad you lost what you had. I was a HUGE supporter of firefox, but version 4 is terrible!!!!

Regarding #1, your post says you have a beta version of Firefox 4. That may well be incorrect, but that is why the site says you do not have the latest version.
Losing graphics on the bookmarks toolbar and not having a working back button are not normal, but I'm not sure whether you want to troubleshoot Firefox 4, roll back to Firefox 3.6, or just move on.
    How can we help?

  • PC problems........i think im ready to switch to MAC

hi people. my first time here.
i make music. i have a windows xp. i have encountered 3 years of problems, with music apps, midi, audio syncing, crashing, parts dieing, you name it. well, the latest thing = i bought m-audio fast track pro audio interface cause i wanna learn pro tools. well, pc keeps freezing. ive had enough.
so i wanna buy a mac now. cause i know the general opinion is 'mac is better for music' etc. and ive used one too. i think its true.
i think i wanna get a laptop first, cause i may be moving to america in near futre. eventually desktop is the way to go, i know, laptop is more portable and i can take it with me. rather than getting desktop shipped over!
the main thing i wanna do is use pro tools m-powered on the mac. i realy wanna learn pro tools. so its not gonna be a gigantic studio set up, small, simple, trim. so i will be using the fast track pro usb audio interface.
what do you guys think? what kind of spec? is laptop good choice for me?
what do i need? in terms of specs? i mean, i need multiple usb ports, (my PC only allows one usb device at a time!)
do latptops have more than one hard drive inside? or is there only space for one hard drive inside? and so i would have to get external drive too? i want at least 2 drives. one for apps and one for audio.
and i guess ill get logic too. as im running version 5.5 on the PC.
shall i get a second hand mac or brand new from apple??
if a mac starts playing up etc, do we have to go via apple stores to fix it?
    expensive to repair and troubleshoot?
would a laptop be ok for music production? strong enough? like i will have a midi keyboard hooked up, guitar into audio interface too. i will only be doing stereo one track recording at a time.
it just dawned on me last night. when my pc started crashing. 'get a mac'. they wont have half the probs ive had with pc.
ok people. thanks for any thoughts.
    cheers

hi, i think you'd do well moving to an new iMac (unless you want the extra portability you would get with a MacBook or MacBook Pro). I wouldn't be tempted to go down the cheaper route of a second hand mac, especially as an audio user - done that myself and you'll be wishing you'd held out for a new one (less performance etc).
I have an iMac G5 (previous generation) which I've used for live music gigs.
My purchase at the time, swayed between the iMac and a laptop mac, but the bigger screen and hard drive capacity + extra ports of the iMac, helped me decide.
Buying now, you'd be getting a great machine for producing music on.
Not sure why you need to split your apps from your audio - worried about audio concurrent track count? The iMac has plenty of ports, including firewire and USB, so attaching an external drive would be easy.
Regarding spare parts etc, I bought mine with an additional three year service plan on top of the one year guarantee, which didn't cost too much - which should help reduce your nerves in making the step over to a mac from a pc.
    Some Specs & Prices:
    iMac--> http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/shop_mac/family/imac?mco=MTE3MDM
    MacBook --> http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/shop_mac/family/macbook?mco=MTE3MjA
    MacBook Pro --> http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/shopmac/family/macbookpro?mco=MTE4NDY
    all the best!

  • Since the recent Firefox update my Facebook page is distorted and rearranged, I've tried all possible solutions and ready to switch to safari!

Since Firefox's recent update, my FB page is off center and rearranged awkwardly. On Safari and Chrome this doesn't happen so I'm certain it's FF. I've tried clearing the cache, reseting the page in safe mode, checking page style etc etc and nothing has changed.

    EXACT same problem here!

  • PreOrder & Network switch

So my dad and i are currently on an expired family plan on t-mobile and were ready to switch networks so i plan to preorder an iPhone 4. I do have a few questions im not clear about...
    1. how do i go about keeping my number and contacts?
    2. how do we set up a new account on at&t so that my dad and i are on the same contract? he does not plan on getting a new phone.

    1. how do i go about keeping my number and contacts?
When placing the pre-order, you will select as a new AT&T subscriber with an option to have a new phone number assigned, or as porting a number from another carrier. If the latter, you will enter the phone number with area code.
If you are storing contacts on the SIM card, which is limited to a name and a couple of phone numbers and maybe an email address for each contact, the iPhone includes an option to import contacts from a SIM card that was used with another phone. The iPhone does not support storing contacts on the SIM card. The iPhone is designed to be synced with a supported address book application on your computer for contacts via the iTunes sync process. With Vista, this can be with Outlook 2003 or 2007 along with syncing calendar events and notes, or with the address book application used by Windows Mail called Windows Contacts or Windows Address Book.
    2. how do we set up a new account on at&t so that my dad and i are on the same contract? he does not plan on getting a new phone.
If he does not plan on getting an iPhone, I recommend placing an iPhone pre-order at a local AT&T corporate store on the 15th. Your Dad will not be able to switch to AT&T until your iPhone is activated which will also port your number from T-Mobile and notify T-Mobile you are canceling your service at the same time. When your pre-order arrives at the AT&T store, you and your Dad can go together to port his number to AT&T at the same time your number is ported to your iPhone and your iPhone is activated with AT&T.

  • Switching to mac, questions on best place to host reference masters

I am getting ready to switch from PC to Mac and have a question I am hoping I could get some advice on (I have a lot of questions actually, but will start with this one).
I have a large library of photos and videos and plan on getting an imac for my wife and macbook pro for me (I do the tagging/organizing and video editing).
Based on what I read, I am planning on keeping the masters on a separate drive and the aperture library on my macbook pro.
Question is, am I better off keeping the masters on the imac and access that folder as an external folder on my macbook pro for the masters, or should I use a NAS drive for them?
I have an older NAS that I can probably reformat for this purpose, but I often run into complications using a NAS (offsite backup issues, connectivity issues, can't use Time Machine, ...) and have read on the forums about people having issues writing to files on NAS's...
I have a buffalo terastation pro ii, it is about 3 years old.  It is 2 terabytes.  I would get the imac with 2 terabytes and the 256gig ssd drive so the 2 tera could be dedicated to media.
Thanks in advance for any advice, appreciate it.

    plampione wrote:
I am about to buy the macs, so both the desktop and macbook pro will be fast.  I plan on buying the fastest processor, 8gig of ram on the macbook, debating 8 or 16 on the imac, though from the previous thread sounds like it should be 16, and ssd on both (imac with 256 ssd + 2 TB HD, macbook with 512 sad).
I suggest ordering both Macs with the minimum RAM and adding 3rd party RAM yourself.  The task is trivial and will save you heaps.  I bought my iMac with 4GBs (that's two 2GB modules plus two empty slots), and then added two 4GB modules into the empty slots.  So I have 12GBs.  My plan is to try to live with just 12GBs until 8GB modules become affordable, and then replace the two original 2GB modules with two 8GB modules, bringing it to 24GBs.  If needed, I'd ultimately go to 32GBs by replacing the two 4GB modules I have just installed.
I think the MacBook Pro (MBP) still has only two slots, so using 4GB modules, you are limited to 8GBs.  If the architecture of the MBP supports it, you may be able to go to 16GB when 8GB modules become affordable.  But you'd need to check this.
    - using an attached harddrive on the macbook pro - Definitely a reasonable idea, but I was hoping to be able to bring up the library from anywhere in the house.  I do have gigabit ethernet throughout the house and can wire in as needed, but again, was hoping to be able to sit on the sofa and do some tagging.
Another way to achieve this still has your Aperture Library and Masters on the iMac as I recommended above.  You could use the MBP to share the screen of the iMac.  It's a standard OS X function, no software to buy.  You enable sharing on the iMac and log in from the MBP.  That way you have the function on your sofa, but the power and capacity of the iMac for your actual work.  This works fine over wifi for me via an Airport Extreme using 802.11N
    - Backup - by putting the masters on the imac i was planning on using time machine to back them up onsite, and crashplan to backup offsite.
Good plan.  TM and Crashplan are good products and free.
I'd also recommend making a second onsite backup by cloning to a pair of external drives, and periodically send one of these drives offsite.  You may find that Crashplan for offsite backup over the internet is too slow if you have a big photo shoot.
What if I plug into the gigabit ethernet whenever I am going to run aperture?  Would that allow the imac/macbook model to work?  Concerned about the performance issues described above though, even for the machines themselves.  Would copying the library nightly to my wife's computer work?  How big does a 20+k library get with referenced masters?
Size of the library depends on many factors such as choices for previews, and the amount of editing (adjustments) you do, but here is a data point.  I have 47K images, many RAW and the Library was about 60GBs, the referenced Masters another 280GBs.  I say "was" because I have let it grow by importing recent images into it.
Today we are on PCs and I use windows live photo gallery and tag all my photos, which are stored on a NAS, my wife also runs WLPG and can see all the tagging I do.  This works pretty well and is simple, I just import from the camera, show all 'untagged' photos/videos, and tag them.  I also move them to a basic folder structure to be safe.
I understand this is not as feasible on mac, and if you are wondering why I am switching, it is because I have been having a lot of stability problems with the pc's and have had enough.  I use iphones, ipads, and apple tv's.  Recently got a macbook air and really like it.  Just need to figure out how to manage the photo/video library.
A lot of my concerns about your plan are because I'm impatient.  On my MBP, it was taking about 5 seconds to render each image as I reviewed them.  I typically take a very short time to tag the images, so the computer was slower then me.  Now, with the iMac, I'm the slow link in the chain.
It may be that you are used to a leisurely tagging process, but I have no experience with WLPG.
The great things about Aperture that I really love, having come from a Photoshop background are that Aperture is always non-destructive in its editing and it is non-modal in the UI.
There is a price to be paid for non-destructive editing.  Aperture often has to go back to the Master and then apply your adjustments.  This takes resources.  But it saves you time.  And you don't have to muck around creating another external folder structure yourself, as it seems you do with WLPG.  I just import my images into "Projects" in Aperture (the Masters are Managed), and when I want to selectively change Managed Masters to Referenced Masters, I just tell Aperture to do this and that it should utilize my Project structure as the external folder structure.  Aperture does all the folder creation for me, yippee!
Finally, you may even find that the MacBook Air is good enough to do the tagging on with the shared screen approach I mentioned above, and then maybe you don't have to buy a MBP.
    HTH.  Happy to discuss further

I am getting ready to switch from a PC to a MAC ( I think).  I know I will need new Lightroom software.  Other than that, will I have any problems.  Will it read my files automatically?  Sepcifically, will it maintain my key words, ratings, metadata, and such?

No. There is a download for each system. What is common is the licence key to activate the install. The latest update issued today is here.
    http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates/
If you have a License for LR 2.x you can download and install its free and you can have it installed on two computers. One can be Mac and one Win or two on either system.
P.S The update is the full program so you do not need to install the original version, you just have to input the License Key. keep it safe.
