Reboot cause

Hi guys,
I have a Solaris 10 server that got rebooted...Vmcore file created..I am a newbie in this filed, but I tried to analyze the cause of reboot anyway. I used 2 tools to analyze the crash dump and got to 2 different conclusions, so I need help to clarify the real issue.
Using mdb, looks like the panic was created by an Oracle-RAC related process (oprocd.bin):

Using SCAT, looks like the crash was forced from keyboard (STOP+A):

panic string:   forced crash dump initiated at user request
==== system appears to have been Stop-A'ed ====Of course, the output is longer; if relevant I'll paste here...
Now, which source should I trust?
Thank you!

They both came to the same conclusion:
<pre>"forced crash dump initiated at user request"</pre>
It so happens that SCAT decided to give a suggestion as to the cause:
<pre>==== system appears to have been Stop-A'ed ====</pre>
In this case, it's not correct.

I purchased the Microsoft Office last September at an Apple Store. I recently had to bring my MacBook Pro back to the store because of some issues. Reboot caused me to lose Office and I no longer have the passcode. Where can I find my duplicate code? I no longer have the receipt so I can not call the business to find my duplicate code. Looking back at my bank statements, this purchase was quite spendy so I hope I will not have to purchase it again if possible! Any advice would be great!

It should be on a stickerthat says product key on the inner sleeve inside the bos which the disc comes in.

  • SQL server service reboot cause the Buffer Data to flush

Could someone please let me know if I just reboot SQL  service on Production SQL Server that Causes to remove all Data cached in Buffer cache ?  Is reboot SQL service also flush Procedure cache ?
Thank you for in advance for your help .
    Daizy

    Hi Daizy,
Restart of SQL Server Service is the similar with restarting of the applications. All your caches will be flushed.
Usually, you would not experience any data loss (transaction log records are hardened on the disk synchronously) with exception of transactions with delayed durability in SQL Server 2014. However, all your uncommitted transactions would be rolled back.
Do not forget that reboot would cause performance degradation (data and plans are not cached), database restarts and a few other things. It could be more efficient to use one of the DBCC
commands to cleanup specific cache rather than reboot the service.
    Thank you!

    Hello Asa,
As per your query i can suggest you the following solution-
Complete these steps to reset the WLC to factory default settings using the CLI:
Enter reset system at the command prompt.
At the prompt that asks whether you need to save changes to the configuration, enter Y or N. The unit reboots.
When you are prompted for a username, enter recover-config to restore the factory default configuration.
The WLC reboots and displays the  Welcome to the Cisco WLAN Solution Wizard Configuration Tool message.
Use the configuration wizard to enter configuration settings.
Note: Once the WLC is reset to defaults, you need a serial connection to the WLC in order to use the configuration wizard.
    Hope this will help you.

  • Hostid change on reboot causes zpool failure to load

Seems every time I restart my Solaris 11 Express PVM the hostid is regenerated thus causing a failure for zfs to load pool 'tank'

  • Numerous Explorer.exe processes run on Server 2012 reboot causing server to hang

I have recently installed Server 2012 as a Domain Controller.  AD, DNS and WINS services as well as Hyper-V manager.
I am facing a very strange issue which does not occur every time I reboot the machine (but on most times).
The machine boots to Windows and hangs, I can notice a large number of explorer.exe processes (that start without any user intervention). The server hangs completely and I am unable to kill the processes manually.
I have to restart the server remotely via shutdown /i.
On reboot the server works fine, If i reboot the server by switching off the hardware manually the same issue may occur..
Any idea what might be causing this behaviour?
    Thanks and Regards

    Hi Carlos082,
I would recommend you to check the event logs which generated during the server hangs.
Please also try to set up a Performance Monitor log and let it run for a while.  At the very minimum, add the counters for Memory, Process, Processor and System.  The length of time that you need to let it run will depend on how long the system
takes to hang (assuming that this is happening repeatedly).  Set the interval so that you can capture at least a hundred samples over the life of the log.  Any low memory condition should be readily apparent - especially if it is a steady leak.
    Finally, follow the steps in
KB Article 244139 to prepare the system to capture a complete memory dump for analysis if needed.
To troubleshoot the server hangs, please follow this article:
Troubleshooting Server Hangs - Part One
    I hope this helps.

  • WinXP reboots caused by a device driver problem??

    Hi All the experts there,
I recently bought and installed a MSI 865GM2-LS Motherboard. However, after I installed WinXP, as each time I get onto the web, system reboots and telling me it's caused by a device driver. I installed every device drivers provided in the installation disk. Is there sth wrong with the hardware of just software problem?
This is really wierd because I've tried WindowsME with exact same hardwares attached and device drivers installed, it works perfectly!
    Please Help!
    MSI 865gm2-ls
    P4 2.6G 800 FSB
    Kingmax 512MB Memory
    Seagate 120G HD
    Pioneer DVD-RW A106
    WinXP Home/Professional

Sorry, I forgot to mention that there wasn't any problems AT ALL when I use the exact cable modem with another computer that has WinXP installed!! I don't think it's the problem of the modem driver.
Maybe BIOS configuration problems? Then, what is it? I have gone through numerous times and I can't think of anything I might be mistaken.

  • Rebooting caused iPhoto to reset to defaults and erase all my photos

After installing the latest release in December, I had a problem with my Mail account disappearing after a reboot. This week I needed to reboot again and iPhoto started up asking if I wanted it as the default app for my camera (it had noticed my SD card in the reader). At the same time my photo wallpaper disappeared along with a couple desktop icons. Not being careful about the implications, I hit the OK button for iPhoto to start up. When it opened all my previous images (several hundred) were all gone. A search produced nothing. Why would the app erase previous data like that? Of course I hadn't backed up any of the recent images. Apparently, along with Mail, this new OS release is causing the system configs to be changed on reboot. Any ideas on trying to find my missing images? Or why the application behaves this way on startup?

    ProfJB
    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Are you sure the pics are actually gone? Have a look in your Pictures folder for the iPhoto Library Folder. Inside that you'll see a folder called Originals. Are your pics in there, in their Roll Folders?
If so, then you've got a corrupted database file:
Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums back.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Rolls and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Roll Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.
    Regards
    TD

  • Random server reboots caused by _mdnsresponder

I have a customer running 10.5.7 server. The server has an issue where it seemingly reboots at random without a user causing it. The system log shows entries like this:

    1. Are these log messages indicating that a reboot is initiated by these non-interactive users?
    If so,
    2. How does a non-interactive user reboot the server?
I know they're running OpenBase as the backend for a Daylite install we don't support, so I'm more interested to know how the _mdnsresponder user is causing a reboot, if indeed that's the case.

    Hi,

After running update 10.6.8 I also got a Kernel Panic message (details, see below). I repaired permissions, repaired my harddisk, still kernel panic at start up. Than I decided to reinstall Snow Leopard. It booted up my MBP fine, allowing me to access this forum and reading that others report a similar issue (btw, I don't have Handoff from Metakine, no USB attached devices, just my MBP). • Rebooting causes lack of ability to connect

I made the switch to a MBP today after 13 years of windows. I have just about everything working great, except for some wireless issues.
I have a linksys wireless router running WPA on channel 6
I setup the wireless network from the icon in the top bar. Everything seems great - I just picked a network, types in the password and I was good to go.
After a reboot though, I am unable to connect to the internet. Odd thing is, I see full bars visible on the airport icon in the top bar, but am unable to connect. If I drop it down and pick 'other' network and re-setup the wireless network, it once again connects and works - but I am forced to do this after every reboot.
I tried open up my Network Preferences and switching between 'Automatic' and 'Preferred' but neither seem to make a difference after a reboot. This is with 10.4.6 and fully updated. Can someone please give me some ideas on how to fix this?

I see. This somewhat poses a problem for me as I am unable to change to WEP for business reasons.
Is there another solution that will allow me to connect everytime without issues? I dont mind paying for a program if it does the job.
    Thanks!

  • T500: Rebooting causes weird behavior

Im having some weird problems with my t500
Im running Linux 2.6.27 (debian lenny) but the problems also occurs when running windows XP
If I shut down the computer (shutdown -h now), it goes down normally and starts up normally when powered on again.
But if I reboot the computer (shutdown -r now) Linux goes down normally, but instead of POST I get a black screen. I then have to power down the system manually(powerbutton) and power it back on again to get POST.
the same behavior occurs if I try to reboot from the bios setup or windows XP. Black screen, no POST.
    Problem nr two.
When the system is rebooted (and of course manually shut down and powered on afterwards because of the black screen) I get a new black screen (after POST)when the system is supposed to boot of the hard drive.
It will boot of other media (if it is selected) but refuses to boot the hard drive.
I then have to manually shut down the system and power it on a random number of times before it will boot of the HD again.
This behavior only occurs when the system is rebooted. it NEVER happens when it is shut down. I can also add that the HD is number one in the boot priority list.
This is really annoying and I can't figure out what's wrong. I have tried every BIOS release but none of them helped
any help would be really appreciated
Note:  Edited subject line for clarity.

  • CS6 Indesign crash on Mac since forced reboot

    Good morning team,
I'm in big trouble since friday last week. I had to force a Mac reboot 'cause the whole desk was freezing (while moving some korean files to our fileserver). Since then I cannot open Indesign anymore.
I've had 2 files opened when my Mac crashed, one was already saved, the other wasn't. Im not sad about losing the savings, because I was just starting with a new layout. Anyhow, I need to run Indesign for my work again - immediately.
I've already tried any mentioned solutions, deleting the recovery files, renaming and deleting Indesign Defaults and SavedData, but nothing works. I hope you can help me find a solution, I have some deadlines today
    Here's the log:
    http://pastebin.com/7eJe1GqC
If you need any more informations, please just let me know. Thank you for help!
    Ellen
    P.S. System is OSX 10.9.2

Will ID run in a new user account?
If it will, go back tot he old account and rename the Adobe Folders in the User Library, then copy them from the new account. If not, uninstall, run the cleaner tool( CS Cleaner Tool for installation problems | CCM, CS6, CS5.5, CS5, CS4, CS3) and reinstall.

  • Lost all settings after reboot (not restore)

Man, was this frustrating. I needed to reboot my iPhone 4 today due it acting unusually sluggish, and after I did so, it acted as though it was a brand new phone, showing me the message about editing the home screen icons when it turned back on. In addition, certain settings were lost, including push notifications, wallpaper, and I think a few others. Mail and calendar accounts stayed, though contacts were messed up (e.g., some records merged for some reason). Very bizarre.
While I'm okay because I have a recent backup, this causes me some concern down the road. What if I don't have a recent backup? Has anyone else experienced this issue?
Again, in a nutshell, rebooting caused my phone's settings to reset, and I lost some crucial items, such as pictures and contacts. I'm scared that this will happen again, and I won't be so lucky as to have a recent backup. On top of that, restoring to the MOST recent backup was no good either, since it just restored the incorrect settings.

I have an iPhone 4 I've had since it's release... Running 4.3. I had been told several months back by an Apple Care rep that it was good to do a hard reset (holding down the lock and home buttons until the Apple symbol appeared) every few weeks. This is the first time I had done it since 4.2 came out though (but again, I'm on 4.3 now).
So I first noticed my friend's picture was messed up when he called... Then I noticed the main ringtone was back to default... And my battery percentage is now gone as well.
Some unrelated (possibly) things: I just got an iPad 2 and it is synced using the same account with the same computer. Ever since getting the iPad 2 every time I get a new app on one of the devices it will appear on the other device after I sync it...I also had an app I had deleted from my iPhone reappear after syncing. I don't know if that's normal or not.
The main reason I'm writing is that since 4.3 has come out and most of you posted about this before it coming out... I wanted to document it was still a problem.
Lastly... My phone had not frozen, But it was locked when I did the reset. Hope this helps

  • SG200-08 VLAN-trunk setting ignored after reboot

    Hi all,
The ports on my SG200-08 are configured as follows:
    Port 1; VLAN 1+4; trunk
    Port 2; VLAN 4; access
    Port3-8; VLAN 1; access
The config for Port 1 looks as follows: "switchport trunk allowed vlan add 1,4". The problem I want to point out here arises right after rebooting the switch; in the running config, the aforementioned line is now present as "switchport trunk allowed vlan add 4", i.e., VLAN 1 is missing in the trunk. The problem is reproducible every time I reboot the switch. At this moment, I assume it to be a bug in the firmware. This is a problem for me, since the switch's management VLAN is 1 and it gets its IP address (DHCP) over VLAN 1 as well.
I have attached my startup config to this thread, as well as the running config exported right after reboot. In both of them, I've sanitized the rows on user accounts.
Does anyone recognize this problem? Any suggestions on how to fix it?

    Hi chrebert,
Thanks for your answer. You're right in concluding the VLAN 1 is my default VLAN. The problem is that the switch should contact my DHCP server over VLAN 1 and since the traffic on port 1 is not tagged, the traffic DHCP request will never reach my DHCP server. As a consequence, the switch always ends up with its factory default IP address (192.168.1.254) instead of the IP address assigned by the DHCP server. And yes, that's a problem
So to summarize, when I configure tagged access for VLAN 1 on port 1 and write this to the startup config, it is indeed present in the startup config afterwards. However, the switch ignores this upon reboot, causing VLAN 1 on port 1 to feature untagged access.
By the way, I completely set up the switch from scratch after restoring the config to factory defaults. It would be great if you could try to reproduce the issue and hopefully come with a fix. In case you need more information, please don't hesitate to contact me.
