Receiving money - suspicious email confirmation

Hello everyone! I have never received money from someone using PayPal before - I've always just used it to pay. Tonight my daughter sold her iphone to someone who wanted to pay through PayPal. The buyer has been after my daughter to confirm that we received the money and will ship immediately. I got an email purporting to be from PayPal, confirming payment. However, the email addresses in the header look strange to me - I don't think there should be so many "on behalf of"'s or alternate emails. Also, the grammar in the actual message is terrible - long run-on sentences and overly explanatory paragraphs saying the same thing. Basically it's telling me that funds will not be released until we give them the tracking number for the package. I am afraid someone is trying to scam my daughter into shipping her phone, and then she won't get any money for it. Here is a copy of the email I received: ***PayPal Payment Confirmation *** ryanjordan001[at]gmail.com; on behalf of; service[atpaypal.com [paypalsecuredservice[at]ymail.com]  Dear  [address redacted] This is a confirmation email of a payment of $160.00USD received from Catherine.M.Willson. What is required from you in order to get your account credited is the item's shipping tracking/reference number, this number will be given to you at the courier office after you might have sent the item to the bearer, this is part of our new policy and a security measure in other to protect both the buyer and the seller, also to verify if the item was really bought from you we have sent you a confirmation email earlier on to inform you that the payment is legal and has been confirmed, also to guide you against fraudulent acts.     We have included the buyer's full name and amount paid for you to know this message was really sent from PayPal. We advise that you make sure the item is sent out as soon as possible and request for a tracking number at the post office after you might have send out the item, then you can email us the number by replying directly to this message after it might have been given to you at the courier office so as to credit your account without delay.     After we receive the number from you for security verification, your account will be credited at once, Our system has witness new upgrades, Please don't be surprised if you see us forwarding you to new customer attendants, its due to the amount of fraud going on involving our name which we are trying all our best to limit and put a stop to. As soon as we receive the requested information from you, your account will be credited.
    Sincerely,
PayPal Account Review Department
PayPal Email ID PP305  Has anyone dealt with this kind of payment before? Is this a legitimate payment confirmation?

THIS IS A TYPICAL PAYPAL SCAM.
They encourage you to use paypal and often ask you to send the item as a gift to a relative somewhere often Nigeria.
You will get/got a "fake" email that looks as though it is from paypal.....it isn't.
It will say the buyer has paid ...you won't have been paid.
They will tell you that the payment is released when you provide paypal with a tracking/shipping number......this won't happen.
If the item requires shipping they will tell you that they will pay you extra and you must pay the agent via western union / moneygram BEFORE the funds are released to you.
They are not interested in the item, they just want the western union etc funds and you will never see money in your paypal balance.
They also threaten legal action...have a laugh at that one and ignore it as its rubbish.
Paypal NEVER tell you to send trackable, they advise it for seller protection etc but it is not compulsory.
Paypal NEVER tell you to send an item before the payment is showing in your paypal account.
Paypal NEVER expect you to use a rival money transfer service.
Delete any emails and ignore the scammers.    **********************************   I give up my time to help you so a thank you or kudos would be cool. Marking one of my replies as a solution would be appreciated if I sorted your problem.

When I hover my mouse over 'Verify Now,' the link that my browser shows it going to is:  lojalita.com.br/apple.  The 'Contact Us' link leads to developer.apple.com/support and in Gmail, it says the email is from [email protected] via mario.whspn.net .  So I've received this about 5 times and have deleted it.  I even went on to the Apple site here and changed my PW and Secret ?'s to make sure and it says my ID is verified in there, so I just wanted to make sure that this is indeed a Phishing email, trying to get my info.  Sorry if this is in the wrong section, thank you for your help.

    Claim #: 20813700201
You May Be Entitled to a Cash Payment from a Class Action Settlement Fund
if Apple Denied Warranty Coverage for Your iPhone or iPod touch
Because Apple Stated Your Device Had Been Damaged by Liquid
The United States District Court, Northern District of California, authorized this notice.
The Court will have a hearing to consider whether to approve the settlement, so that benefits may be paid.
This is not a solicitation from an attorney.
This settlement affects you if Apple denied warranty coverage because Apple stated that your iPhone or iPod touch had been damaged by liquid. The settlement will create a $53 million fund that will be used to pay eligible Settlement Class Members and to pay incentive awards to the Class Representatives and attorneys' fees and costs to Class Counsel, as approved by the Court (the "Settlement Fund"). If you qualify, you may send in a claim form to ask for payment, or you can exclude yourself from the settlement, or object. To receive a payment from the Settlement Fund, you must submit a claim form to the settlement administrator on or before October 21, 2013. You may obtain a claim form by clicking HERE or by visitingwww.AppleWarrantySettlement.com/Landing.aspx. If you don't want a payment and don't want to be legally bound by the settlement, you must exclude yourself by December 4, 2013. If you stay in the class, you may object to the settlement by December 4, 2013. Please see the Detailed Notice described below for more information about excluding yourself or objecting. The remainder of this email message contains a summary of important information about the terms of the settlement and about your legal rights. Please read it carefully.
You may visit www.AppleWarrantySettlement.com or call 1-855-282-8115 to obtain additional important information, including a Detailed Notice that describes the settlement more fully and provides instructions on how to exclude yourself or object.
Summary of the Class Action Settlement and Your Legal Rights
    What's This About?
The lawsuit claimed that Apple wrongfully denied warranty coverage by stating that iPhones and iPod touches had been damaged by liquid because a Liquid Contact Indicator ("LCI") (also known as a Liquid Submersion Indicator), which is visible through the headphone jack or through the dock connector port, had turned pink or red. Apple denies all allegations and is entering into this settlement to avoid burdensome and costly litigation. The settlement is not an admission of wrongdoing by Apple.
    Who's Affected?
The Settlement Class is composed of people who meet the following criteria: (1) U.S. residents who are or were the owners of an iPhone or iPod touch; (2) which was submitted to Apple for warranty coverage on or before December 31, 2009, for an iPhone, or on or before June 30, 2010, for an iPod touch; (3) while that iPhone or iPod touch was covered by Apple's one-year limited warranty coverage or, if applicable, the AppleCare Protection Plan; and (4) Apple denied warranty coverage because Apple stated that the iPhone or iPod touch had been damaged by liquid.
What Can You Get from the Settlement?
Apple has agreed to create a $53 million Settlement Fund. The fund will be used to pay eligible Settlement Class Members, and also to pay incentive awards to the Class Representatives of up to $1,000 each and attorneys' fees and costs to Class Counsel, not to exceed 30% ($15.9 million) of the $53 million Settlement Fund, for their services as approved by the Court. Apple has reserved the right to object to the amount of attorneys' fees, costs and incentive awards. Any undistributed funds will be disbursed to one or more non-profit entities approved by the Court. Apple has also agreed to separately pay for the cost of notice and settlement administration. The amount you receive from the settlement will depend on a number of factors, including the type of device you owned and the number of Class Members eligible to receive payment from the Settlement Fund. Your share of the Settlement Fund will be determined by the type (i.e., iPhone, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPod touch) and configuration (i.e., 4, 8, 16, 32, or 64 gigabytes) of the device for which you sought warranty coverage from Apple. The amounts are listed in the chart below. The amounts represent the average amounts paid to Apple for replacement of each device type and configuration. The exact amount of the share you receive may be higher or lower than the amounts listed below, depending on the total number of Settlement Class Members eligible for a payment and the type and configuration of their devices. No eligible Settlement Class Member will receive more than 200% of the amount listed below for their device type and configuration.

After your claim form is received, it will be reviewed by the settlement administrator. If your claim is deemed valid, a check from the Settlement Fund will be mailed to you if the Court approves the settlement and the time to appeal has passed. We do not know when that will be. Please be patient.
If your mailing address changes after you submit your claim but before you receive your check, you must notify the settlement administrator within 45 days after the change. Please update your address by clicking HERE or by visitingwww.AppleWarrantySettlement.com. A Detailed Notice contains further information about the settlement. Just call the number or visit the website below to get one.

To object, mail a letter addressed to In re Apple iPhone/iPod Warranty Litigation, Case No. 10-01610, and send to both of the addresses below. You must include your name, address, telephone number, signature, the type of device for which you were denied warranty coverage (i.e., iPhone or iPod touch), the approximate date when and the Apple store location where you were denied coverage, the serial number of the device (or the Apple ID for the iTunes account you used with the device), and the reasons you object to the settlement.

  • Received a suspicious email

Logged in from a new Macbook air today and received perfectly valid emails telling me about the activity. Then later I got an almost identically formatted message that appeared to be from apple, but it was telling me that an album (Desparado by Enrique Iglesias) was purchased on my iTunes account. I thought it may have been someone in my family so I looked up the artist in the iTunes store and was surprised that there is no such album for that artist ... so I mouse-over'd the links (without clicking)  in the email and sure enough ... they go to some survey site - not to Apple.
So I looked at the message again this time with a suspicious eye, and saw that it didn't look 100% proper. So here I am letting everyone else know about it.

Whatever you're doing, stop, stand up and step away from the computer. (On second thought, finishing reading this newsletter first, then do that.)
While we love the Web a lot, we also know that sitting in front of a computer all day can be bad for you. So two of our U.S. editors, Carmen and Jess, found some add-ons that remind you to get up and get active from time to time.

Another rule-of-thumb is NEVER sign on to a site from an email.  If you're getting an alert,  open another browser window and go to your account directly.
I pay my Verizon bill online.  I don't know if accessing my Verizon account could get them anything,   but this is a heads-up for everybody out there.
P.S.  who's   H-ttps://amstage.verizonwireless.com    If this email is realy coming from Verizon somebody needs to be fired.

    "Hello Community Members,
After checking into this issue, I found that the developers are performing some testing.
These emails are not scams, but they can be disregarded and deleted.
Thanks for pointing this out! "

    Paul-D;  I re-iterate my point:
If this email came from Verizon someone needs to be fired!
What an incredibly stupid thing to do.    Your intermittent 4G coverage notwithstanding, I thought Verizon was a competent company on the  leading edge working out a few technical bugs.
Now I'm not so sure.  As a recent Verizon stock holder I'm going to have to consider selling.

  • I thought that iMovie/iphoto/garageband were free but i received an email confirming that i bought these program. how can i get my money back?

thought that iMovie/iphoto/garageband were free but i received an email confirming that i bought these program. how can i get my money back?

The question is ... Did you buy them, accidentally or otherwise?   They are all part of iLife, the latest version of which is iLife 11.
iMovie/Garage band can all be bought through the App store as separate programs; iPhoto is a free update.

  • How come i received an email confirming my second creative cloud payment 2 days ago and today i have logged on and i only have a free membership?

about a month ago i signed up to the student creative cloud monthly subscription. today i have bought a new mac book and the first thing i did was install my creative cloud. after logging in and installed illustrator i realised that it had only installed the trial version. i then decided to log on online to see if there was any issues on there. after logging on and going to manage my account i discovered that according to online i have only got the free creative cloud memberhip. the reason i have an issue with this is that on Friday i received an email confirming my payment has gone through. so how come i am paying for a full student membership and then only receiving the trials?  as you can iamgine i am not impressed!

  • Not receiving email confirmations from new website registrations

I haven't been receiving any email confirmations from the various websites that I have been trying to register on. If I try the "forgot my password" function on these sites I don't get any replies to those either. I have been receiving emails replies from emails I have sent directly from Mail, and emails from those in my address book.
Any ideas what might be causing this?
I have asked Roadrunner to check their server to see if there might be something blocking some emails, and am waiting for their reply.

  • Registration email confirmation not received

I purchased AppleWorks 6.2.9 on October 7/06. I have tried registering it three times since then. I get a message on the Apple website thanking me for registering and saying I will get a confirmation email, but I never get the confirmation email. I phoned Apple Tech Support and they told me to post the problem to this discussion forum.
Any suggestions as to why I'm not getting an email confirmation from Apple? I know they have my correct email because I confirmed it in My Info.

Thanks for your help, Barry and Peggy. In terms of what you suggest, Barry, that support option appears to only be for hardware and not software. When I tried to register my AppleWorks, I was asked to put in my marketing number, which is on the outside of the box. I tried to put in this marketing number as you suggested and it was not accepted.
I got an email from Apple Care (1-800-263-3394) shortly after my responses from both of you on October 11 asking about how I felt about the handling of my phone call to them. I responded the same day on the website provided expressing my dissatisfaction. There has been no follow up to this feedback.
I phoned 1-800-MY Apple this morning, October 16, and, after about 22 minutes on hold, was connected with Tracy, who then put me through to a product specialist named Andy. Andy was not sure why I did not receive a confirmation email, but he said he would make a note about my problem. He gave me a case number and said if there was any problem to refer to the case number.
I listed an alternate email on the My Info page, so if there was a problem with my first email, a confirmation could have been sent to the alternate.
