Receiving TCP RST on a connection to a dying server...

I'm having a problem with my configuration on a CSS11503. If i try to connect to a dying server i receive a TCP RST. What i'd like to see is the CSS "moving" my session attempt to another server in de content rule.

Hello Gilles,
I assume you are refering to the "keepalive maxfailure 1" on the service ? I'm migrating from a LD416 and as far as i know that looked for TCP Resets from realservers to "flag" them Failed.... I tried setting the maxfailure to 1 but that still won't help.
This is my lab senario:
Client -- [FW]--- [Switch]--Trunk--[CSS11503]
The VIP is on another vlan than the services.
On the Client i run a looping wget script just spidering the index.html from 3 servers. When i stop one server i get a TCP RST from the VIP, wget complains about a Read Error does a second try and continues on the other servers.
As far as i understood things this should not result in receiving a TCP RST, am i correct ?

Ronny

  • Can't connect to PPTP-VPN server...

When attempting to connect to a DD-WRT PPTP VPN server I kept receiving the general "Can't connect to PPTP-VPN server." message. All of the settings were exactly correct and tested on a Windows laptop. I began writing this because I didn't have any other ideas but half way through it (out of the blue) decided to attempt connecting. It worked!
The only thing I did different was delete the /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration contents and reboot.
Let's hope it continues to work. Posting this in case anyone else has the same error as I.

A follow up on the VPN issue: it would only work if my laptop's wireless was tethered off of my Android phone - any other connection would connect to the VPN and get an IP but I couldn't ping anything. Also, after rebooting, I get the exact same damning error message now and any combination of rebooting and removing/renaming (don't ever delete system files!) /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/* hasn't fixed the issue.
I very much hope Apple releases an update soon for this - it's a serious inconvenience! It must be a network stack issue too because I've tried many 3rd party applications that barf as well.

  • Problem connecting to Web Services server

    Hello,
I've had my printer running perfectly since I installed it 3 days ago but today I am nolonger able to use eprint. I can still scan and print from my home PC and laptop but I am unable to send emails directly to the printer now. This was working fine and I used the feature fairly often without error but today no emails arrived. When I logged on to the eprint web site using my google account {Personal Information Removed} the status of the printer said disconnected. I've tried deleting the printer and re-attaching it (which had no effect) and I've now tried disabling web services on the printer then re-enabling it. When I try this I now receive the following error: Problem connecting to Web Services server.
The printer model is a HP Photosmart Premium C310a with the lastest software update. The printer is connected to my network via Wifi and is reachable and usable from all my PC's.
It seems to me that there is something wrong with the software configuration on the printer, the reason I think this is because the screen interface slows down to a crawl after some use and when this happens it is not possible to switch the printer off via the power button. The only solution is to pull the power cable! This is something new and didn't happen before, is there a way to reset to factory default, the option in the menu doesn't seem to reset everything?
    Please advise ASAP.
    Thanks in advance,
    Stuart {Personal Information Removed}

    Greetings,
The ePrint Service has been having some issues after the upgrade. The server team has found and fixed a bug in the latest release that affected connectivity. If you're having problems, please unregister your product (from the Web Services menu, select "Remove Web Services"), then register again (from the Web Services menu, select "Enable Web Services).
After reregistering, I have been very successful using both ePrint and the Print Apps using my HP LaserJet CM1415. It has been staying connected, and promptly printing jobs I send to it. It has also been reconnecting after I powercycle. I sincerely hope you have the same experience. We had an ePrintCenter outage a few minutes ago that may have affected connectivity, but I am able to use ePrint and the Print Apps again as of 5:15 Mountain Time.

  • Websockets TCP RST through ASA+IPS and ACE

    Hello,
We recently deployed a new websockets project within our existing web infrastructure. The websockets traffic (as all the rest of normal web traffic) is crossing an ASA + IPS module  where I do NAT and and then is forwarded to an ACE load balancer where two real server are configured in the server farm in active/standby mode (not load balancing) due the websockets nature. Everything seems to work fine but sometimes (once every 4 days or so) and based upon the server logs a TCP Reset gets the application server and bring down the whole application.
It's clear that this application as a bug but I would like to avoid that TCP reset as a workaround while application team fix the ibug as the go-live is soon. Anybody faced this issue and can help me to find where that supposed TCP reset comes from? I didn't get IPS alerts.
    Server log:
"Unable to read data from the transport connection: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.    at System.Net.Sockets.NetworkStream.EndRead(IAsyncResult asyncResult)"
    Thanks,
    Miquel

    Hi Miquel,
A packet capture on the server shall show the origin of TCP RST. If you are natting the source traffic then take front end pcaps at front end of firewall as well as at backend and similarly for ACE, to see what is the origin of TCP RST. Normally, it should be from client if it is received on the server. LB's just forward the traffic to the server but it depends and it could be loadbalancer resetting the connection. But we don't have any details to be sure. So packet captures would be our best friend here.

  • ACE-TCP RST, ACE initiated RST

    Hello members,
What is the command to identify if ACE is initiating TCP RST?
Is there a way to overcome or change timers/window/ect, if ACE do initiate TCP RST?
    Thanks in advance members.

    Thanks Giles.
    Very useful command

I'll look at the capture file that was done couple of days ago.
I'm attaching the show output, just collected. Any clues will be appriciated.

  • TCP RST message from CSS11150 while doing pop or imap conn to content rule

Making a pop or IMAP connection to the pop.tiscali.be (you can sign up free to test if you want) the connection stops after approx 12minutes.
When capturing with a sniffer this connection I receive an TCP RST message from the content rule.
When I test it form the back-end network directly to the server it works fine.
Does anybody have an idea on what this could be ....timers or so?
    Will sicky source ip help??

I would try sticky source to test but this seems odd at 12 minutes. You might need tac's help on this one.

  • SpamAssassin / Amavisd tuning - TCP active open: Failed connect() errors

I started this post as we were experiencing a problem with occassional delayed mail delivery to our mail store. As I continued writing it, I think that I've resolved it. But I wanted to post this anyway so if I'm doing things right it might help someone else; or, if I'm doing something wrong someone can correct me. :) For reference, we have a quad Sun v440, and process about 500,000 messages a day.
We were seeing messages like this in our log files:
09-Nov-2006 08:28:09.37 tcp_scan Q 1 [email protected] rfc822;[email protected] @tcp_scan-daemon:[email protected] TCP active open: Failed connect() Error: Connection timed out
example.com represents our local domain. The errors seemed to occur proportionally to the amount of incoming mail we received. That is, we saw more of them under load.
We are running SpamAssassin, Amavisd/clamav, and:
Sun Java(tm) System Messaging Server 6.2-5.01 (built Nov 22 2005)
    libimta.so 6.2-5.01 (built 11:57:57, Nov 22 2005)
    SunOS hostname 5.9 Generic_118558-11 sun4u sparc SUNW,Sun-Fire-V440
This line seems to say that the message is in the tcp_scan channel, and cannot send to 127.0.0.1:10024 (amavisd) because that port isn't listening.
My amavisd max_servers was set at 15. After reading http://www.ijs.si/software/amavisd/amavisd-new-magdeburg-20050519.pdf and making a wild guess, I increased it to 30. The errors were less frequent, but still occurred.
The output of 'sar -d' showed that my local disk was experiencing upwards of 80% utilization. I moved the amavisd temp directory and the spamassassin bayes db to a san volume, and that sped everything up dramatically. The connect errors went away, clamav avg time per message is at 4 seconds down from 10. I am now receiving errors from spamassassin that say:
Nov 9 10:27:27 hostname.example.com spamd[21601]: prefork: server reached --max-children setting, consider raising it
My --max-children is set to 25 right now, and the server is cpu bound under heavy load, so I see no reason to raise it.
So this is my setup. I am no longer having an immediate problem, but comments/questions are welcome.

  • TCP active open: Failed connect()

    hi all,
i receive error from my email like
"TCP active open: Failed connect()x.x.x.x :25(No formatted text for errno = 111)"

    Hi Mustapah,
if the error is in the email, then the hostname and/or IP address of the reporting server/appliance  should be in there.
I suggest you try to look up the message in message tracking of your IronPort's GUI, this will tell you if the message was received by your appliance(s), and also if it was bounced on the appliance or on a different server.
    Hope that helps,
    Andreas

If you are installing on Windows, there is a limitation in the default configuration of TCPIP. I wrote about it, and included the steps to fix it, on my blog at http://timtows-hyperion-blog.blogspot.com/2007/12/essbase-api-error-fix-geeky.html.
Note the error number you reported is slightly different than what I write about in the blog, but I believe I have seen this error fixed by the blog steps..

i can no longer log into my ichat linked to my gmail.  right after opening up ichat, receive the following message:  lost connection with jabber.  the server has unexpectedly disconnected.  how to troubleshoot?  thanks.

    Hi,
There can be many reasons why the Login is "up the creek".
Any break in the network at your end whilst logged in will cause  an issue.
A sort of discrepancy between what iChat thinks the state should be and what the server thinks.
If they don't agree the server will refuse to accept.
A Crash at the server end which does not log you out properly will also do it.
Any file at any time can be come corrupted.
Luckily with the iChat .plists they are recreated if removed with an iChat Restart.
If it were AIM you can also get your Account Suspended  and this will not log you in.
(It tends to happen from Chat rooms where people notify AIM about bad behaviour (as they see it) and you have to apply to get Un-suspended).
Most of the big IM services use multiple servers.
Sometimes these go out of Sync.
In the case of AIM this happens when they remove Old unused Screen Names from people's Buddy List prior to making them available for re-registration.  I am not sure if this happens at Google.
You seem to be talking about an account that has worked at Work and having new computer at home.
As I mentioned the Priority thing you have not said that it has coincided with the new computer logging in  (this will kick the work Computer out of Google whether you are logged in  on the Web Mail page or in iChat)
IN addition to that iChat stays partially logged in for Off Line IMs
This is done in the background by a support app called iChatAgent
If your Computer is ON but ichat is not started people can still send you Messages.
Instead of saving these on the server until you login iChat will start up.
Depending if the home Mac is effecting the Work Login it may be holding sway over your Login.
Using your girlfriend's login may have booted her Off Line where she normally uses the name/login.
The AIM Side can be specifically set to allow Multiple Logins and therefore NOT allow them.  If this happens you get a warning and messages to do something about it.
You do not get these in any Jabber or Google Login as the Priority setting is supposed to take care of it.
If the Login works at the Web Mail Login and on one computer then the .plist on the work computer is the most likely issue.
There is a small chance that a Corrupt Buddy Pic (Home Folder/Library/Caches/com.apple.iChat/Pictures) may be the cause.
Set this folder to icon view and also use the Finder's View Menu > Show View Options and select icon view.
This should show all pics as their icon.
    Check that all display properly.
At this point I would try a COMBO version update install of the last Update you did over what you have.
This often corrects hard to trace things

    Hi
When I try to open a radio application I receive the message "you must connect to a wi-fi or a cellular data network"
My iPhone is regularly connected to my wi-fi and works regularly with any other connection.
    What can I do?

Shut down and restart the app...
    - From any Home Screen, double tap the home button to bring up the Recents List
    - Tap and hold any icon until they wiggle
    - Press the red to delete the offending app from this list.
    - Press the home button twice when done.
    - Restart the app

  • TCP active open: Failed connect()    Error: Connection timed out

    Hi,

I have no problem sending email to the same address from my hotmail account.
    any suggestion ?
    Thanks,
    Joe

The message can only mean one thing. Your server cannot connect to that host.
It's possible that the remote system is lying to your Messaging Server, and that's gotten it confused. Some firewalls do this by repeating the entire capability string from the server behind them, but can't actually handle all the capabilities.
    PIX firewalls do this.
When you connect, they pretend to be able to "startls", but if you try, they hang up. They appear to handle "EHLO", but when you try, they hang up.
You can put debugging on the tcp_local channel, and see the actual conversation, if you like.
master_debug and slave_debug go into the imta.cnf definition line. MM_DEBUG=5 goes at the end of your option.dat file.
    then
    imsimta cnbuild
    imsimta restart
will attempt to send the message. You will want to back the changes out, as you'll get lots of extra log files you really don't need.
Post the log file, and we can see what's happening.
