Recovery after a fatal hard disk error!

after my last time machine backup, i updated my website and consequently experienced my hard disk going loopy, nuts and finally dying a sad painful death. ive since had a new hard disk installed, and am about to restore my system from my last back up. if i do that, and open up iweb, is there anyway of recovering my website, the newest version of which was published, but not backed up?
any help would be very much appreciated.

there anyway of recovering my website, the newest version of which was published, but not backed up?
No. You will have to edot the older version in the domain file with iWeb to recreate the latest version of your published site. Paragraph 2.6 of this page will give you some tips on using the published file to update your iWeb domain file: http://iwebfaq.org/site/iWebBackupretrieve.html.
To make backing up of your domain files a little more current you can download and run the Automator workflow application, iWeb Domain File Backup, every time you make any changes to the site. You can download it from Toad's Cellar.
The application can be edited with Automator to change the destination of the backup copies to the location of your choice. It can be run even with iWeb open (but idle).

  • Disk utility says "fatal hard disk error"

My G4 ibook started corrupting files last night. I did all the usual stuff (after backing up) - repair permissions etc. Still no joy. Booted from install CD and ran disk utility and got the above message. If I start up in usual way all that happens it the flashing question mark. Is this the end of my hard drive?
Bad timing if it is - all Apple service closed until 7th Jan down here at the bottom of the world (NZ)

It's hard to say. It may be that a more powerful disk utility like Disk Warrior could repair the hard drive. Is it just a matter of corrupted files, or are there ominous sounds coming from your hard drive as well? It's good that you are backed up.
Have you tried running the Apple Hardware Test? Try that and see if it gives you a hard drive error.
Also, how much free space is left on your hard drive? If it suddenly gets too full, strange things can happen.
Since I am no hard drive expert, I will have to leave it to the more experienced and knowledgeable members of the forum to guide you through this. But at least run the AHT and post back with any results.
    Good luck!

Plug the usb flashdrive into one of the notebooks's usb ports  Press the power button and then immediately tap the Esc key to invoke the startup menu. Choose F9 (boot opions) instead of F10 (BIOS setup) in the startup menu and then select the usb flashdrive.

  • HP Pavilion g4 2131tx, Hard Disk Error after Blue Screen of Death

Hello! I do not know what section shoud i post this problem, I apologize for it.
So my laptop is freezing for a days after BSOD. When I leave my laptop overnight for downloading torrents, I always receive the message "Windows has recovered from unexpected shutdown." when i woke up.
I already disabled all non-microsoft services, start up items and yet the desktop is still freezing right after the welcome screen but the welcome screen does not load too long.
The desktop freeze for more than a minute then it will go back to normal again until my laptop went to BSOD
and received this error from UEFI "Hard Disk Error." after restarting.
I ran the Hardware Diagnostic Test and I got the result:
    Failure ID: RW042K-6MT6RP-MFPX1F-61BK03
    Product ID: 65H69PA#UUF
I tried cleaning up registry and defragmenting disk and still no luck.
    * My laptop is HP Pavilion g4 2131tx and still under warranty until June 2014.
    * I am using Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit Service Pack 1
    * My RAM is 4gb with a processor of Intel Core i7
    * My AV is microsoft security essentials
    * I am using Advanced SystemCare for cleaning up registry and defragmenting.
I was wondering if I could change my hard disk while it's still under warranty.
    Thanks for your help!

    Here is the Service Manual:
    Manual
See Page 39. It can take any 2.5 inch wide 9mm thick laptop SATA hard drive. They are industry standard, interchangeable.
Here is one I would recommend:

This is a nice compromise with size, speed and expense. You could install an SSD for maximum speed. Post back if you need help with software or anything else.

I rebooted my com to a GRUB HARD DISK ERROR after fiddling with wine and updating through pacman. Even the grub menu isn't shown... it just stuns there. Previously, I killed X server a few times using Ctrl+Alt+Backspace... i suspect maybe pacman was still updating when i did that or sth.

Managed to get in fine with super grub boot disc. Any idea how i should proceed? Reinstall grub or sth?
My pacman log shows that there had been a successful kernel update and...

Restore the hard disk to its original out-of-the-box contents using Toshiba recovery media. All of the original partitions will be restored, including the recovery partition.
If no recovery discs were created, you can obtain them from Toshiba.

  • HP DV6 Laptop - Smart Hard disk error

    1. Product Name: HP Pavilion DV6-3150 us
    2. Operating System - Windows 7
    3. Error message: Smart Hard disk error
    4.  Any changes made to your system before the issue occurred:
    Hi
My laptop was toooooo slow and looks like some process was running
in the background especially lots of scvhost.exe. Tried some
malware removal and couldn't resolve it.
Now I'm not able to login to my system at all.
I have tried all possible options
    a. Tried to run scandisk
    b. Tried to start OS in safemode prompt(It stops at classpnp.sys)
    c. Tried to start OS in safemode with netword
    d. Command prompt
    e. Tried to execute chkdsk, scandsk etc etc.
None of the options able to solve the problem. It keeps on giving me a message"Smart hard disk error" and sometimes it runs the scandisk and it keeps on gives me a message for each segment "File record segment 12345 is unreadable"
Don't know what to do. After reading many posts in the net, suggestions were to replace the hard drive I am worried about it.
It is just 1 year and 2 months I bought the laptop and now I dont have warranty as well. Dont know what to do.
Is there any way I can resolve my hard drive?
Can you help me out to resolve it?
    Regards
    Bals

I have seen several people report Recovery hanging and not completing when the hdd is smaller than the original. Years ago when hdds were 20-40gb I could understand the problem with running Recovery from disks on a 20gb if the machine came with a 40gb_but I would have thought /hoped that HP would have eliminated that issue with todays huge hdds. From several posts here in the forum, the problem has not gone away.
If you install Linux now booting from Recovery Disks will wipe out Linux,so if you hope to dual-boot it will have to be reinstalled after recovering windows 7.

  • S5304y hard disk Error

I am getting a hard disk error but for some reason my computer was able to reboot to normal after rebooting in safe mode any ideas?
Also, does anyone know how to email support directly.
I went thru the warranty check process and started a chat but lost connection to it as they where trying to tell me my warranty was up, but the only way that you can even talk to them with live chat is if you have a warranty so I Need to know who to email now.
because even though they took my email in the chat they are not sending me anything now.
    Please help if you can
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi
You could put in your Serial & Product number in the link given above and check if the unit is still under warranty incase you like to order the part that will cost you as the unit is Out off warranty. You can visit the link given below and order the part yourself or call HP Technical support order the Hard drive along with the recovery kit incase you wanna to complain just speak to the supervisor directly over the phone itself that would be better.

  • Hard disk error on Toshiba Satellite A505 56980

    Hello,
Windows keeps bringing up a notification that the hard disk on my Toshiba laptop(A505 56980) has errors. It recommends for me to get hardware technical support to determine if the disk can be repaired or needs to be replaced.
My disk name is TOSHIBA MK5055GSX and I have only one volume C:\ drive.
I am running my antivirus scan just to make sure I don't have any active viruses or trojans damaging my hard drive. My computer freezes for a few seconds on and off. Not sure if this is related to the hard disk error.
I have backed up all my info and also created system recovery disk. I also have the recovery disks from when I got the laptop.
My question is how do I go about diagnosing the hard disk error and geting it fixed? What is the warranty for hard disks? I bought this laptop beginning of last year.
I appreciate any help I can get to resolve this problem.
    Thanks
    - Priya K

Perhaps your model name/number is Satellite A505-S6980?
    Satellite A505-S6980 Specifications
    Satellite A505-S6980 Downloads
Restart your system, when you see the Toshiba logo start pressing the F8 key repeatedly until you enter the Advanced Boot Options Menu, choose 'Repair Your Computer'.
This should take you to the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRe)
Select 'Command Prompt', and type in this command, hit the 'Enter' key, and restart your computer:
       chkdsk c: /r
This will check your hard drive, try to recover any corrupted files/data it can, and repair any problems it can. It takes a while to run anyway. But, if there are problems with your hard drive, it could take many hours. Just keep checking back, it will give a report as it goes, and when it's finished.
Let us know the results. Good luck.

  • Can't boot into bios due to SMART Hard Disk Error

My hard drive failed and now im getting constant pop ups to replace it
I'm thinking about transfering windows to an external drive until I can replace the internal one but I need access to the bios to set the boot priorty options anytime I use f10 to boot into the bios it's like it's skipped over and gives me the smart hard disk error screen where my only options are to boot into windows or run diagnostics.
I tried running diagnostics but each test resulted in an instant failure.

Yes take out hard drive and connect it to another PC. Get help from your service manual for procedure for taking it out:
    http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02659236
    Adapter, something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Anker®-Converter-Adapter-Cable-included/dp/B005B3VO24
For configuring boot order, try this:
    http://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c00364979
Tap f9 key soon after powering on notebook, if the above don't work.

  • Recurring Hard Disk Error - New Hard Disk

I've been in contact with HP about a recurring problem with my Pavillion g6 - it periodically has blue screen errors and then won't turn on, displaying a "hard disk error". It then refuses to boot up for anywhere between a few minutes to a few days. I sent it in for a repair, it came back with a new display bezel (???). More hard disk errors. I called in and they shipped out a new hard drive for me.
Today I installed the new hard drive. When I tried to boot it up for the first time, I was greeted with yet another hard disk error. I ran a test, it claimed that the hard disk was fine (it used to say that before sometimes too, which is probably why they didn't replace it initially). Powered down, and turned it on again - it started up fine.
Now it is working, but I don't feel any better about it since it had that initial error. Is it normal for a new hard disk to fail right after being hooked up? It was obviously installed fine, as I am typing this post on a fully functioning laptop now. I am tired of living out of a portable drive (it is a lot like living out of a suitcase), so I would appreciate some assurance that the laptop isn't just going to crash again, but it seems to me that the new hard disk isn't going to be my solution.
I have an extended warranty - but I don't have the luxury of time when it comes to mailing it in, as I am a full-time student and use online courseware every day.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

It is obviously not normal to get an error on a new hard drive. Equally obviously, it is not the drive itself. I wish I could calm your fears but I suspect you have some sort of an intermittent connectivity problem with the SATA port on the motherboard. All you can do is keep using it and see if the problem comes back. I might go in and triple check all the screws and connections, but that is just OCD, really.
