Reinstalling OS9 Classic, You cannot continue, there is nothing to install

I am using Tiger on an Imac with OS9. I cannot open the OS9 for some reason. I notice in the preference window the OS9 disc logo is missing. Somehow I guess I messed up the software. I found the discs that came with that Imac, and when I tried to reinstall OS9, I got a message saying "You cannot continue, there is nothing to install"
Any help would be appreciated

My X11 world has started misbehaving - whenever I try to xdisplay something back to my Mac I now get an error message saying 'unable to open display'. This all happened after the X11 session I was having with a remote linux box froze and I had to force quit X11. I thought I'd try to re-install X11 (via X11User.pkg) but I get to the part in the installer where I click on 'Install' and it then responds with:
You cannot continue. there is nothing to install.
I've tried removing the /usr/X11R6 directory and the X11 app itself but the installer message persists. Any ideas on how to proceed?

Sometimes the reason why these things don't work is that there is a "receipt" in /Library/Receipts that you need to manually delete.

Office 2010 - "Word cannot print, there is no printer installed"

Hi All,
Been having a problem recently on many PC's at a site where they run Windows 7 x64 with Office 2010 x86.
Printing usually happens with no issue, however sometimes when they click the print icon, (in the 'file-->print' section) it will display 'word cannot print, there is no printer installed'.
The client tells me they can go to control panel and print a test page successfully, but word/excel will not print. In order to resolve the issue they close the program, reopen it and printing works straight away. Today I asked them to restart the print
spooler, instead of closing/reopening word, this did not resolve the issue. closing and reopening did fix the issue.
So far they have experienced the issue with Word and Excel only, however they don't use the other programs a great deal.
The printers are distributed with group policy. In addition to network printers they use PDF Factory (which is like PDF Creator).
I have been unable to reproduce the issue.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

From your description , I understand that you got message ”word cannot print, there is no printer installed” when clicked the print icon.
If you do not have a default printer, use the Add Printer Wizard to install one.
Follow these steps:
Click Start and then click Devices and Printers.
Under Printer Tasks, click Add a printer, and then follow the instructions to install your default printer driver.
Note If your printer model is not listed in the Manufacturers and Printers lists, see the Hardware
Compatibility List (HCL) for an updated driver. To do this, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/hcl/default.mspx
If your printer is not on the HCL, contact the printer manufacturer for drivers and instructions.

"There is nothing to install" Flip4Mac

Maybe someone here can help: just tried installing the free flip4mac version 2.1.2.72. The download went OK, but when I try to install, either with custom or easy install, I keep getting the message "Cannot install. There is nothing to install." The custom options show zero KBs. Tried it with two different downloads with same result. The dmg itself seems OK; shows 7.5 MBs which I think is right.
I know I might have to go over to their support forum, but there is no guest posting there and I'm really reluctant to have to register for yet another site.
Maybe someone can explain why this might be happening. Thanks.

I see something about things not working properly after installing and needing to uninstall first, but don't see anything about not being able to install at all with message "nothing to install." But it does seem reasonable that I would be able to re-install the update only after first completely uninstalling the older app. Even though I moved the old app to the trash to install the new one, must be files located elsewhere,

If I'm running videos through QT, then is Flip nothing more than a platform to launch QT and it doesn't matter which version of Flip I'm using?

I recently upgraded to i tunes 7 and experienced many of the same difficulties that many other people had, for example, the gapless playback fiasco and then when I tried to open i tunes all I got was the multi coloured swirly wheel of death!, I uninsatalled i tunes altogether and downloaded the new 7.1 version, only now when i get halfway through the install process it says that there is nothing to install!

Installing X11 - "There is nothing to install"

I inserted my Tiger installation disc, navigated to the optional programs icon, then selected X11...only to get the message "There is nothing to install."
I noticed a couple other odd things...
In the Install Optional Installs window, there are columns for Package Name, Action and Size. Everything in the Action column is marked "Skip" (no "Install"???), and everything in the Size column is labeled 0 bytes.
What's going on?

I get this error message while trying to install new software.
I searched for the problem here and it seems that other people's problems and solutions were based on one particular program they were trying to install, ie OS9.
In my case, I have recently tried to install two different programs, completly unrelated to each other, and I get the same message.
Here are the programs, if that matters:
Palm Treo 650
M-Audio Firewire 410 MIDI Audio interface
Any help would be much appreciated.

I know how to repair permissions and do that frequently. However, I wasn't sure if you meant that repairing the drive was something different than that. I'm not sure what that is.
In any case, I had not tried repairing permissions on the CD drive, which is greyed out anyway. However, I did try to Verify Disk on the two disks that I am having trouble installing. In both cases, I got a lot of red and a message saying: Volume needs repair.
As opposed to several other disks from programs that i've installed in the past, where the green message stated: Volume passed verification.
In neither case is Repair Disc Permissions an option. Is there someway for me to repair these?
It still seems unlikely to me that both of these disks, from 2 different companies and programs, bought 6 months aparts from each other, should be corrupt, when nothing else is.
Both of these disks claims to be for Mac and PC.
Any additonal help would be much appreciatied.

I've been a loyal customer for over 9yrs with Verizon with 5 lines of service and up until this year I raved about their service.I even referred all my family and friends to them that was until now ! First let me say I HAVE NEVER BEEN TREATED SO UNFAIRLY OR BADLY AS IVE BEEN BY VERIZON. Never have I been bold faced LIED to like I was with Verizon I came into Verizon store. Your agent after upgrading my phone told us that for just $10 more a month we could have a mobile hotspot it was a SPECIAL offer so we agreed to take this offer WELL he Lied it cost us over $100 and as if this was not bad enough he also told my husband that he could upgrade to the 4s and that although he would have to get a new number my husband had 2 months left on his contract but there was only going to be a small fee for new phone Lied AGAIN $175 was charged. By the time Verizon was done we had a $1500 Verizon bill. Well to my shock when I got the bill I called Verizon Which I now agree with alot of people your customer service reps are far from the wonderful customer service you so rave about there something very very wrong with the way I along with many people have been treated. You allow your sales people or agent to lie to your customers and do nothing about it WHY ? Ive tried to get past this bad experience only to get another one bottom line is now with my service suspended I had no chose but to get one of your prepaid phones a $50 Monthly plan only to find out that my monthly plan was only 22 DAYS and when you decided to shut my phone off I will never forget this night as I was awoken by a call on my phone to tell me my child had been in accident and was being Air Vac to hospital my phone suddenly went to message to add funds to your account!!!!!!! You could have just used one of your phones as a hotspot. It's impossible to know why your bill was $1500 unless you list the specifics. It just depends on what all you purchased, what fees were involved, did that include service for current month plus next month, etc.

I have a mac mini server, all clients are lion and need to reinstall OSX10.6b on the server, there is not remote install on lion clients, any work arounds?

The onjly thing I can think of is dual boot one client machine in to OSX10.6, but is there a anther work around?

So I am trying to download ventrilo. When I first downloaded it I found out the version I had downloaded would not work on my version of mac. So, I trashed it and proceeded to download the 3.0.0 version. When I got through to the installation part it said it couldnt continue because there was nothing to install. Please help me fix this!

That error as a rule is because it thinks it's already Installed, does it have an Uninstall option to try before reinstalling it?

Reinstalling OS9 onto )S10.4.x after replacing hard drive ??

Don't know if this is the correct place to ask, but here goes. I think I posted this in the wrong place yesterday.
I had a catastrophic hard drive failure on my G5 and had to have a new hard drive installed. The repairman also reinstalled OS X from my disk.
When I tried to install OS 9 from the Install Disk, it won't do it. It says "There is nothing to install." Also, the "space needed" says 0.
I have read the Apple help site suggestions, but that involves deleting my OS 10.4, installing OS 9, reinstalling 10.2, then updating to 10.4. I don't want to do that, for a couple of reasons:
1. I am not going to deliet my OS...I am not computer literate enough to be comfortable doing that;
2. How do I know OS 9 is "really" on the install disk, since it says there is nothing there?
Anybody have any ideas.

Did you try the procedure outline in the article linked by eww? If you did and it didn't work, here's what's next:

Not quite all of that.
Here's what we will need to do:
1. Backup everything on your HDD you need to save.
2. Reformat from OS 9.
3. Install OS 9
4. Install OS X (10.4x)
Here's how:
Format and Install OS 9
This process will completely erase everything on your Hard Disk Drive. Be sure to Backup your User Folder and all third party apps you can't afford to lose
1. Boot from your OS 9 install CD holding down C key.
2. Go to Drive Setup and reformat your drive as Mac OS Extended (HFS+)
2. Reinstall OS 9
3. Update to 9.2.2: Mac OS 9: Available Updates
4. Update your firmware
5. Shut down computer and boot from OS X install disk as follows.
OS X Installation Process
Boot from you install disk holding down the "C" key.
When booted, select language.
Go to Utilities menu and launch Disk Utility.
Go to File menu and Repair OS 9 Permissions!
Quit Disk Utility.
Open Installer and begin installation.
Choose to Customize and deselect Foreign Language Translations and Additional Printer drivers.
Check box to install X11 (Tiger) BSD Subsystems (Panther & earlier).
Proceed with installation.
After installation computer will restart for setup.
After setup, reboot computer.
Go to Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in left side bar.
Select First Aid in main panel.
Click Repair Disk Permissions.
Connect to Internet.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.4.9 Combo Update (PPC) or 10.4.10 Combo update
Computer will restart after updates.
Go to Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in left side bar.
Select First Aid in main panel.
Click Repair Disk Permissions.

I cannot get Express to Open after install of Upgrade to HD

I have installed the upgrade FCE HD and now when I open I get this message:
'Unable to start FCE HD. You must have at least 1 Easy Setup File. Please re-install and try again'.
I re-installed it, nothing. I threw it away and tracked down a FCE folder, and the same thing. I tried to open an old project and the same thing happened. I could find no preferences for it. It is too old for phone support but he suggested I re-format my drive, which is how I ended up here in the first place. I tried then to install my first FCE2 and it said there is nothing to install. Thanks for the help.

Thanks for the reply. That's the first thing I thought of and I have no FCEHD preference files. I have tossed every related file I can find. It just won't start up. I do think I will have to buy the upgrade to get tech support for this. I appreciate your time.

Cannot Open in OSX 10.4.2 running OS9 Classic

There are some problem not only in just in DVD Studio Pro, but also :
1) I cannot install and boot from the OS 9.x CD which came with my old G4 in my new Dual G5, 2GHz. Is it true or any things I must done before ?
2) I then install OS9 Classic in OSX 10.4.2 and install DVD Studio Pro 1.1 and Final Cut Pro 2.0 and upgrade to 3.0 (because of I had many project done in these Version may need some revises required by my clients, even I had brought the New Final Cut Studio but not installed yet), but when I open the application start with Classic, it shows that " That application or control panel was not support by Classic " and stop opening it. It also make me to stop the installation and think about what should I do next not only in the installation but also the future work flow. Are there any expert can give me any solution and suggestion

It sounds like you need to log in as the administrator to update the iTunes application properly.

Sharepoint list dataheet view error "Cannot connect to the server at this time. You can continue working with this list, but some data may not be available"

I have a List which is having around 14000 items in it.while opening that list in datasheet view it is giving error .
Below is a summary of the issue:
After selecting datasheet view beow error occurs:
    "Cannot connect to the server at this time. You can continue working with this list, but some data may not be available."
    "Unable to retrieve all data."
    The item counts displays say 100 out of 14000 items.
Exporting List to excel is giving only 2000 records out of 14000 records.
Other Observations   -
This is happening to only one list on the site .There are other lists in the site whose no. of records is equal to 8000 to 9000.They are working absolutely fine without any error.
Also, If I am saving this list as a template and creating another list with it ,then it is working absolutely fine with 14000 records,so the issue does not seem to be related with no. of records as the template list is working fine.
I have checked the Alternate access mapping setting ,its fine.
It should not be related to lookup,datefield or any other column as the list created from it template is working fine with all these columns.
I checked below links also ,but doesn't seem to work in my case.

I have spent two days to resolve this issue. Microsoft has released two KBs with reference to this issue...but are not appearing in search results at the top.
I am sharing my finding.
1. First install the
KB2552989 (Hopefully you might have already installed it. The KB detetcts it and informs the user.)
2. Then update registry by adding new key for data fetch timeout as mentioned inKB2553007
These two steps resolved the issue in our environment. Hope it might help others as well.
