Repartitioning Hard Drive on Server

I am running Windows Server 2003 with Raid 5 originally partioned into C and D drives. OS is on the c drive with only 10GB of space. I ran out of space in C drive (still critical after cleaning) and still have a lot of space on the D drive. What are my options in allocating more space to the C drive? Thank You !

  • One or more hard drives in Server Backup are not connected

A year ago I moved from Windows Home Server to Server Essentials 2012 as a backup solution for my simple home configuration - 2 Windows 7 Professional desktops.  It was a perfect solution and works flawlessly - and has saved my tail on numerous
    occasions.
The configuration is simple - I have a internal SSD drive from the operating system and a few other applications and (2) identical 4 Terabyte internal hard drives setup as a single storage pool - configured as a 2 way mirror.  Every few days when I
log into the Windows Dashboard and check out the alert viewer, I have a single error - "One or more hard drives in Server Backup are not connected".  When I follow the instructions - open the dashboard, click storage, hard drives - I see a single
C drive (which of course is connected - it runs the OS) and a single D drive - the storage pool.  Clicking on the D drive and "Advanced - Manage Storage Spaces" shows my single pool (a green OK) and the 2 physical drives (also a green OK).
There are no other drives attached to this server - no external USB drives, external hard drives - nothing.  Why is WSE showing this message?

Go into the Server Backup Selections and reconfirm what is selected, then save.
If it persists, change the selection (remove a folder) and save, then go back in and correct it, then save.

  • Repartitioning hard drive on MacPro

I was wondering if there were any way besides reinstalling both OS X and Window XP to repartition the hard drive. Please let me
    konw. Thank You.

You can also use a product like Micromat Disk Studio to perform this function (or any other repartitioning) without reformatting your drive:

  • Airport Extreme & hard drive to serve files to PC

Hi, I picked up a 640GB LaCie Hard Drive from my Apple Dealer to act as a NAS and share files among my PC's. My PC's can't see the area the files are saved on but can see the area that I formatted if I want to attach my Mac but that's only 40GB in size! LaCie gives you the option to format the drive for both Windows and Apple files. LaCie is suggesting the Extreme can't serve files to PC. That seems wrong. Can anybody help? Do I need to reformat the drive and copy the files to it again? Suggestions?
    Thanks, Michele

  • Repartitioning Hard drive

The hard drive on my G5 is split into two partitions. When I installed Tiger from Panther, only my start up disc partition "C "received the upgrade. The other half which I labeled "MacHD" has a copy of the last updated Panther OS 10.3.4. I was under the impression that when you updated to a new operating system that it read both partitions and upgraded automatically. My question is this: If I wanted to erase the "MacHD" partition and combine it with the "C" partition and not lose anything on my "C" partition, How do I do that? My Tiger discs are in another part of the country. I travel quite a bit. Is there a way to do it inside disc utility? Would I be Better off upgrading to Leopard and reconfiguring form that install disc?

Hello angelboy11, and a warm welcome to the forums!
I was under the impression that when you updated to a new operating system that it read both partitions and upgraded automatically. My
Nope, you would have had to to it twice, or clone the upgraded one to the non-updated one.
If I wanted to erase the "MacHD" partition and combine it with the "C" partition and not lose anything on my "C" partition, How do I do that?
Very dangerous under the best of circumstances, a Backup or Clone is strongly advised... unless you don't mind losing everything, in which case it's easy.
Would I be Better off upgrading to Leopard and reconfiguring form that install disc?
Leopard can supposedly do that, but A. I think you have to erase one partition first, and B. I've not yet heard of anyone doing it, (doesn't mean much, since we normally only hear of problems), I've been meaning to try it.. I just did, don't see nything that says other tan repartion will destry everything!?

  • Repartition Hard drive- Bootcamp?

    Hey,
My brother has had my Imac g5 for the last 6 months as I have a Macbook Pro- I have just got it back from him as I want to sell it but when I went to reboot it I discovered that he has partitioned the hard drives but one of the is called Bootcamp which I believe is something to do with Windows. All I want to do is get rid of the bootcamp partition and have the one 160gb mac hard drive.
Does anyone know how I can do this?
    Thanks folk!

Good question since you cannot use Boot Camp on a G5, only on Intel Macs. I'm not sure what he would have done to create a Boot Camp partition, but you can try this:
Open Boot Camp Assistant in the Utilities folder. You should have an option to remove the Windows partition. Select that option and remove the partition. The drive should be returned to its normal capacity.

  • External hard drive/server across machines

    Hi everybody,
I'm not sure if this is the right place to put this, so if not please let me know where you think would be better.
The studio I am working on uses 3 machines:
    1 - MacBook Pro running 10.5.2
    2 - PowerMac G4 running 10.3.9
    3 -
What the boss here would like is an external hard drive or server that can be used as a central location for files that can be accessed by all machines. Ideally, this hard drive/server could also be accessed by the 3 laptops when being used at home or out of the office over WiFi.
What would people suggest is the best way to do this? All ideas and trouble shooting is welcome.
    Thanks

sorry, forgot to add the 3rd machine. It's a Compaq Presario PC running Windows XP.

  • Setting up a VPN server on second internal hard drive

Forgive me if my jargon is off ... this is my first attempt at setting up a VPN.
GOAL: My company needs various employees to access our server from remote locations.
My personal computer is a Power Mac G5 Quad. Today I purchased a 500gb internal hard drive to serve as the company's "server".
I want to set things up so that employees can access this drive from anywhere on the internet.
I've read numerous documents on how clients connect to the server, but I haven't found anything on actually setting up a server so that others can connect to it.
Just to finally hash out my attempts at solving this ... I installed Chicken of the VNC and set that up on various employees' laptops. However, this VNC just lets them "control" my computer. I want them to be able to access one particular drive and share files there.
Any help, points in the right direction, advice, would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks so much.
    ~JJL

Try selecting a different ip address range for the VN. 192.168.0.x is a default for a lot of gear and I read that it could cause problems in one of the Leopard setup docs. try something like 192.168.x.y where x is more than 0 or 10.x.y.z again where x is More than 0
It really is worth downloading all the docs from the apple site and burning them to CD

  • Partition of hard drive won't work...

I currently have a WD MyBook with the following info
Name : WD My Book 1110 Media
    Type : Disk
Partition Map Scheme : Apple Partition Map
    Disk Identifier : disk1
Media Name : WD My Book 1110 Media
    Media Type : Generic
    Connection Bus : USB
    USB Serial Number : 574341563543373737303130
    Device Tree : IODeviceTree:/PCI0@0/EHC1@1D,7
    Writable : Yes
    Ejectable : Yes
Mac OS 9 Drivers Installed : No
    Location : External
    Total Capacity : 999.5 GB (999,501,594,624 Bytes)
    S.M.A.R.T. Status : Not Supported
    Disk Number : 1
    Partition Number : 0
The drive currently has two partitions on it, one for my iMac time machine and one for my MacBook Pro time machine. When I try to repartition this drive in Disk Utility I get the error message:
    "Partition failed with the error:
Could not modify partition map because filesystem verification failed"
I need to clear some storage space on my internal MacBook drive and I really don't want to spend money on another external disk when I have over 500 GB just sitting there empty. I would just write directly to the current partitions but OSX flips out when you try to save random files straight to a Time Machine formatted disk.

This seems to be a common question and problem around these parts. I am certain one of the resident geniuses will soon be responding.
While we both wait for that to happen, you may find some helpful information by doing a search for "repartition hard drive" or "repartition time machine" in that little search box just to the right. There seems to be lots of good information there.
But remember that monkeying around with partitioning is not without risk, and we are talking about your Time Machine backups here.
    Be careful and good luck.

  • Using an external hard drive?help

my hard drive on my laptop is full so i purchased a 30gb external hard drive to serve the purpose of containg all my itunes library.i have dragged my entire library over to the external drive and has successfully duplicated in the external drive.my main problem is when i delete the original folder and go to play the songs in itunes it shows the exclamation mark beside the track saying it cannot be located...obviously it can be located in the external drive but it will take an age to locate every song seperatly?surely there is a better and more efficient way to do this?please advise?

This is the preferred method to move the Library to an ExHD while keeping iTunes 'in-the-loop'. If you can move the files back to where they were and recover your Library, then using it will help.
If you want to make another drive (direct or portable) on your PC the main music location for iTunes, move all song files there, as well as any future imported music from CDs, here is one method (see the links below):
You will maintain your playlists, ratings, comments, etc. This will
    i only
    move your music folders location,
    i NOT
your iTunes program files. It is my opinion that programs (i.e. – iTunes) work better when installed on your main hard drive. At the very least, it makes it easier to manage all your programs if they are centrally located on one hard drive (the Windows default standard).
See these links for step-by-step info:
Moving your iTunes Library to a New Hard Drive
MacMuse, "Move iTunes music/Library to new drive", 12:34pm Oct 12, 2004 CDT
If you are moving the music to an external hard drive, after the transfer and to work correctly, the ExHD must be running prior to your opening iTunes. If not, iTunes may reset the location of your music to the default.
OR -- If you do not have a large investment in playlists, ratings, date added, last played attributes, you can 'Refresh' your Library as this post details: Buegie, "Songs "could not be found"" #17, 09:12am Oct 26, 2005 CDT

  • WSE2012R2 Dashboard Stoage Tab Does Not Show ANY Hard Drives or Folders

I have been using WSE2012 for nearly two years as a "home" server. I recently decided to upgrade to R2. After spending several days trying to "migrate" to R2 without any success, I finally did a fresh install to my original system drive
(a 240Gb Samsung 840 Evo SSD). The install went well until I checked all of my data drives (4x2Tb, 2x1Tb, 1x3Tb and a 2Tb "storage spaces" drive). I found that only three of the drives were online and useable. The "storage spaces" drives
were not even visible in Disk Manager and all of the other drives were "offline". After doing a lot of searching with Google, I finally figured out how to make the "offline" drives "Online" with PowerShell. With much more searching,
I also finally figured out how to "bring back" the "storage spaces" drives with about four lines of PowerShell code so I thought I was finally home free... But no such luck. I then had a lot of trouble restoring my "ServerFolders"
although everything else seemed to be working. I also had rebooted several times while working on these things without any issues. After finishing up yesterday, I planning to finish working on the "ServerFolders" earlier today.
I ran into a problem right away, however, when I opened the Dashboard and went to the Storage tab only to find that NONE of the Hard Drives and "Server Folders" showed up. I had an alert that the "Server Storage Service" was
NOT running. I checked and found it to be "stopped" and in "manual" mode. After starting the service, the Storage Tab showed that it was being refreshed. After a lengthy wait, it never did refresh and the "Server Folders" item
on the Home Tab showed "N/A". I tried rebooting again. When the server came up, I checked the service again and found it to be running (although it was still on "manual")... But once again, Storage Tab never did refresh properly and still
showed nothing. This time I changed the service to "Auto" and also tried "Restarting" the service, to no avail. I rebooted again. This time, when it came back up, I first checked the service again and it was running and still on "Auto".
Before opening the Dashboard, I checked the "Files and Storage" section in "Server Manager" and everything looked good. All of my hard drives and my "storage spaces" drive appeared with no apparent issues so I thought that everything
was finally OK... Wrong!!!!! I opened the Dashboard and went back to the Storage Tab only to find that it still would NOT refresh so that NONE of my hard drives or folders were showing. I am totally lost at the moment. How can everything actually be there
and okay but NOT appear in the Dashboard which, by the way, was working fine yesterday -- and I did not make any changes whatsoever between yesterday and starting to work on the system today. I am totally lost. Can anyone please help me resolve this
    issue?????

PROBLEM SOLVED. As I was just getting ready to "bite-the-bullet" and reinstall 2012 R2, I discovered something that led me to the solution. When I was previously trying to restart the Windows Storage Service, I "thought" it was restarting
okay. I was restarting it by right-clicking on the service. When I "started" it this way without opening up the service properties, it would immediately change from "stopped" to "running". What I did not realize was that the service
was quickly stopping "without" refreshing the screen so that "running" was still displayed even though the service had stopped. Once I realized that the service was not actually restarting, I tried another Google search based on this fact
which led me to some forum threads that helped me solve the problem since I found others with essentially the same problem. I found two corrupted registry keys under Windows Server\Storage Services. One of the keys was a major entry, the other was in the "Folders"
subfolder. After deleting BOTH keys, the service restarted without any issues and my drives and folders reappeared in the dashboard. A reboot was "not" required. What a pain! But everything is good now.

  • External Hard Drive ?? - Newbie

    Hi!
I am looking for an external hard drive and while I realize everyone's opinion seems to be broadly different on this topic, I wonder if someone can shed a little more light. I'm concerned mostly with reviews and posts that I've seen (for multiple brands) that say that after a few months, the drive just quits. This concerns me because I plan to store all of my photos and iTunes on this external drive vs. keeping them on my iMac's hard drive. I also plan to take advantage of Time Machine backups too if I can.
Do they really just quit and if so, is all lost forever? Isn't the point of the ED to store big stuff like tons of photos and music on them vs. cluttering up a hard drive? Again, I'm new to Mac so maybe I'm missing something obvious. The music and photos really aren't bogging down my Mac yet but I'm sure eventually they will so that's why I'd like to get the files onto an external. I'm assuming that I would delete them from my hard drive so that's why I'm afraid of external's just up and quitting. Am I wrong to assume that?
Anyone have an opinion? Is it "safe" to trust the external drive? Feel free to point out if I am missing something obvious! I'm new to all this hardware stuff!
THANK YOU in advance for your answers! It's always appreciated!
    Meagan
P.S. I've found a Seagate 500GB at Office Max for $99 and a West. Digital for about $150 which seems reasonable to me...but both have mixed reviews due to them just quitting!

If you paranoid and careful- backup everything! AS I can see external hard drive will serve you as a STORAGE but not as backup. The best way would be DVD+hard drive combination. Especially photos, since they are not that big compared with music files and you can re-buy mp3 (money well wasted:) but can't redo photos...
As far as brands, they all fail. There are moving parts inside and they by definition will fail. As far as external hard drives, they consist of 2 parts- hard drive itself and enclosure. Maxtor, Seagate, Hitachi, Western Digital external hard drives will 100% have their own hard drives inside and some others especially ones who don't list and not that reputable will have hard drive based on "the cheapest of the day" motto. But that is OK because they all decent (and don't pull that Seagate is the best crap, because I have two failed seagate HD). The problem can be with external enclosure- it can be cheaply made or use some sh** chip inside, so the best thing is not to buy some 3'd party noname external hard drives. As far as $99 special, well if it is maxtor, seagate, WD, hitachi it is not so bad quality vice, but speed-vice it might suck- at this price point it is USB. But I don't edit movies so much, so all my external hard drives are usb.

  • Does the file format differ when you Publish locally to hard drive vs. to the Connect Pro server?

I notice that when I publish locally to my hard drive to review a set of slides, I see a folder full of files. If I click on index.htm within the folder, I can launch the slides.
When I publish to the Adobe Connect Pro server, I merely see a url for the link to the course.
I'm not sure what this url link represents (as far as the file format is concerned):
Has the presentation been converted to different file format than what is published on my local drive? If so, what format is it in?
If  the presentation has not been converted, does the directory structured published to my local drive get replicated on the Adobe Connect Pro server, and the url is merely a link to the "starting file " within that folder (say, index.htm)?

The published output does not differ between publishing locally and publishing to Connect. The URL on the Connect server does, ultimately, point to the Index.htm or viewer.swf file.

hard drive not recognized during windows server 2008 setup

    Hi,
Whether the hard disk is recognized in BIOS?
Connect it to another computer to see if it could be recognzied incase the cause is the disk itself. Also please check if it is really a RAID instead of a single hard disk - a single disk should be recognized directly while RAID cannot be recognized until
    a suitable driver is installed.

  • Is the mac mini server the same hardware as the other mac minis (except for the quad core i7 and dual hard drives) with different software or is it configured differently?

I have a mac mini with an i7 dual core processor. It is perceptably slower than my macbook pro with a quad core i7. Does the mac mini server have the same hardware configuation as the regular mac mini with server software or is the hardware different (aside from the i7 quad core and dual hard drives)? I want a mini with a quad core i7...

Your assumption is correct.  The server does however only
have the Intel HD3000 graphics like the base model with
no option, at this time, for the discrete graphics chip.  So,
depending on what you are using it for, that could be a deal
breaker.  Remember that your MBP does have a discrete
    graphics chip.
I have a 2011 Mini Server connected to a Thunderbolt display
that gets used as an engineering workstation and general
personal use (some photo editing, LP restoraton, general
internet browsing).  You simply just not enable any of the
server services.  I find the combination to work quite well
for my purposes.  I also have a 13" 2.7 GHz i7 Macbook Pro
which is pretty much strictly for work.  As far as CPU
power it is pretty much equivelent to your Mini.  For the most
part I find the Mini does outperfom my MBP.  I heavily use
Parallels and Windows7 virtual machines, so the more cores
    the better.
So, If you do a lot of CPU intensive stuff that is multithreaded,
the Server may help.  If it is graphics intensive and your software
heavily leaverages the GPU, you may actually take a hit on
    performance.
