HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook Processor Upgrade
Hello,
I am considering having an Intel 4th generation (Haswell) i7 chip installed on my laptop. But, I do not know if it is compatible. Please leave any helpful comments, including if this upgrade is possible or not (i know some chips are soldered on). If it is possible, please leave places that are reliable for upgrading laptops. (I've upgraded a desktop in the past, and it didn't go so well, so NO DIY's!) Thanks guys.

Hi,
Haswell mobile architecture uses a completely different socket than previous generations. You may use a Sandy Bridge like Core i5-2450M on an Ivy Bridge laptop but you can't use Haswell in any of the previous generations:
http://ark.intel.com/products/75128/Intel-Core-i7-4800MQ-Processor-6M-Cache-up-to-3_70-GHz
Socket: FCPGA946
So far I have heard there is no reason for an upgrade to Haswell from Sandy or Ivy Bridge computers.

Poor quality of HP Pavilion dv6-7040tx Entertainment Notebook PC - replacement
Hi,
I purchased HP Pavilion dv6-7040tx Entertainment Notebook PC and within 4-5 days of purchase I came to know that the integrated webcam is not working- having hardware fault, followed the steps provided by help desk.
Went to service station as well and the issue is not getting rectified with driver/software reinstallation. It's a clear indication that some of the hardware is having issue.
In such a case (notebook is less than 7 days old) and it's integrated cam never worked, shouldn't it be replaced immediately? instead of doing Hardware troubleshoot offerings.Hi,
Wow that's great........

Hello All... My name Pravin and I own a HP PAVILION DV6-3217TU Laptop couple of years ago.
Well, when I visited a near by HP Customer service center for the replacement of some components in it, the HP Technician has told me that My HP PAVILION DV6-3217TU Laptop is compatible for the up-gradation with Backlit Keyboard as he found the required sockets available for a backlit keyboard on my laptop's Mother Board. I felt pretty happy to hear about that, as it sounds real cool for the guy like me who works mostly at night time...
PLEASE CAN ANYBODY CONFIRM THAT MY HP PAVILION DV6-3217TU Laptop IS COMPATIBLE FOR THIS UP-GRADATION, IF COMPATIBLE, DOES ALL THE KEY STROKES WORKS FINE AS THE PREVIOUS ONE.???
Hope I hear a good news about it from the great experts here..^_*
Thanks In Advance..

I bought a new HP Pavilion dv6-6005sa 15.6" Laptop - Linen White on 14/06/11 from Currys digital, Arndale Centre, Manchester. The laptop is less than 1 week old.
The screen is a frost blue colour from the second I turn it on to the second it is turned off. Weirdly I can see the entire screen, just that everything is blue!! Does anybody know how this can happen??? When I move the screen it flickers from normal to this blue thing. A loose connection maybe?
I am unhappy as I got to send it back to the shop for a under 21 days replacement involving an expensive airmail delivery :@ The alternative would be a 3 week investigation in the lab which I cant be bothered with!
Has anybody else experienced this phenomenon with a HP laptop screen? I also am beginning to experience memory problems and the usb prots are on the blink. I have looked after it very well, it has just been sat on a desk for 5 days! Can anybody explain me this phenomenon and if it is a comon problem with HP laptops?
Now for the next problem as if a faulty screen and memory cache wouldnt be enough! The battery:
The battery specs are as follows:
Lithium-Ion 6-cell battery
'upto 7.5 hours battery life'
The battery is advertised to perform 'upto 7.5 hours' however I get maximum 4.5 hours doing absolutely nothing on power saver mode with the laptop with it just sitting there idle on a desk. At the same time I also had wireless and bluetooth off; screen brightness set to 0%, maximum processing chip power reduced to 20%; battery saver mode active; all major applications closed).
I get maximum 2-3 hours doing basic tasks with it such as word processing. Gaming I get maximum 1.5 hours.
The battery checker displays the following:
Status: Ok (0)
warrenty type: 1 year
cycle count 0
manufacturer: 13-42
battery age 136 days
serial number: 12587 02/01/2011

Cell Voltage 2: 4177 mV
Cell Voltage 3: 4177 mV

I have highlighted in bold the things I thing are suspicious. I feel the results are those of a malfunctioning battery. Could anybody tell me if I am correct withmy assumptions?
As I am no expert coes anybody reading this think these results are normal for a new battery and can you provide me some insight to wether my battery might be faulty or not?
Basically I think at least one of the 6 cells inside the battery are malfunctioning.

Pavilion dv6-1125es - Hard Disk problem
I have an HP Pavilion dv6-1125es (out of warranty) with Vista Home Premium (32 bit) that runs very slowly and freezes but this does not seem to be caused by malware. I was considering reinstalling but decided to run diagnostics first. In the System Diagnostics (Setup), the Start-up Test (F2) finds no problem in the Memory Test, Hard Disk Quick Test or Hard Disk SMART Test.
In the System Diagnostics Hard Disk Test (F4), the Quick Test indicates Passed (100%) but the Full Test shows:
- 00% Complete
-‘Replace Hard Disk1’(in red) followed by ‘testing’ (in white)
The SMART check indicates Passed
On pressing Esc to continue, the next screen shows (in blue)
- “Hard Disk Test” Failed
- “Hard Disk 1 FULL” (305)
The Diagnostic Log shows Result: 0305
I would be grateful for help with the following points:
1) Is the ‘0305’ error unfixable? Does it mean replacing the hard disk?
2) The current disk is 320 Gb. What is capacity limit for this model dv6-1125es?
3) If I install Windows 7 on the new disk, can the 64 bit version be used on this model?
4) As this laptop has also been running hot, I would like to try to clean the fan and ventilation system. Where can I find instructions on this?
Thanks in advance for your help.
This question was solved.
View Solution.Hi,
To answer your questions.
1. The 305 error does mean you will need to replace the Hard Drive.
2. You can certainly go up to a 500Gb HDD without any problems - see the procedure starting on Page 69 of your Maintenance & Service Guide.
3. Yes, your processor is 64bit capable - see Here for confirmation of this.
4. There are instructions for cleaning your notebooks air vents Here.

What is the latest motherboard for a Pavilion DV6-2020ev?
Hi, my motherboard on my Pavilion DV6-2020ev failed due to overheating. The current MB part number is "574902-001" followed by "7F0994". The processor is an i7 (1.6Ghz). Instead of getting the same board, I was wondering if there was a later MB that can work. Does anyone know? Unfortunately the dealer cannot help and will only replace with the same part number -(
thanks,
arjogieThe motherboard listed is the right one listed for dv6-20xx notebook. Just ensure that you download the latest BIOS update for your notebook from the software and driver download page on www.hp.com once you have replaced the MB.

For the past two days the fan turns off a few minutes into a game and doesn't turn back on until the laptop has cooled down to about 70C. Upgrading the CPU in my HP Pavilion dv6-6b08sa Notebook PC
Hey there,
I am looking to upgrade my seemingly weak CPU so that my laptops performance may be noticeably improved, for things such as gaming. I have an HP Pavilion dv6-6b08sa Notebook PC, running a Windows 7 64-bit Operating System.
This is my current CPU:
Quad-Core AMD A6-3410MX APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics, 1600 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 4 Logical Processor(s)
If you require any more information about my laptop in order to help me, please ask and I will be happy to provide.
Please note that I do not want to have to upgrade any other components of my laptop, such as the motherboard, in case the CPU requires stronger/more powerful support, as money is a limitation. The cheaper the better, as long as the performance will be improved noticeably. Thank you.Hello TooQuix,
I understand you want to upgrade your CPU is the correct? I will try and provide you the information that you need.
This document will provide you a list of processors available for this unit. Now because you have AMD installed originally, and you're using the same motherboard you will have to continue to use AMD.
If you turn to page 85 there is a list of processors, the part numbers are there as well to help your search. Also, if you plan on doing the work on your own the instructions on how to replace the processor is shown there as well.
I hope this helps.

Pavilion dv6-3040sa, black screen, flashing caps lock
Hey all, In need of some help for a friend, her laptop has had this issue for a while now and only just come to me for help. Her HP Pavilion DV6-3040SA has an odd issue with it, if you power it up the display doesn't come on and the caps lock just flashes, it will continue to flash until the laptop is turned off. On the help section a flashing caps lock does not refer to any particular error. I've reseated RAM, tried hard resetting, reseated the CPU and it managed to power up, then after it was turned off, it wouldn't power up again and had the same issue, after playing with it some more it powered up and worked for 2 days, when it promptly stopped working again. Any reason for this issue?
Processor failures can be have inconsistently. I have seen processor failures start with 1-2 second hangs in the OS to working one day and not at all the next.
The blinking code you have desribed is a beep code of one. Review the following table found here.
Caps Lock/Num Lock

The options for a blink code of 1 is to reseat the CPU as you have already done or to replace the processor. Since the issue returns after reseating the CPU, it looks like the CPU needs to be replaced. Sorry.

Pavilion dv6-3130tx Blue Screen (BSOD) on adding RAM to second slot
Hi there,
I own a HP Pavilion dv6-3130tx with total of 3gb of RAM, one 1GB chip and one 2 GB chip. Recently I have been getting a lot of system crashes/freezes and occasional Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) with a variety of error messages. On contacting HP care in India they said to check the RAM chips and the slot for any problem. I have identified that the second slot is one creating the problem as the system crashes if use any one of the chips on that slot while both the RAMs work fine on the other slot.
Additionaly the RAM port/slot cannot be replaced as such, and since it is out of warranty getting the motherboard replaced isn't an alternative either.
So does anyone have any idea what might be the best way out of this problem?Did the 3GB of RAM come with the computer or did you upgrade it at some point?
What version of Windows are you using?
