Replacement battery - no male plug

I bought a replacement battery for a 160 GB iPod Classic off eBay, but there is no male plug attached to the leads of the battery cable. It's just the bare leads. Is this normal? How do you attach the battery cable to the plug to fit it in the battery port otherwise? I can't find anything online about this. It seems like I'm missing a piece. Are you supposed to harvest the male plug from the old battery? Very confusing. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Chris

Second battery received from OWC. Same behaviour.
Technician says that the customer service person was wrong to say that the 3rd party battery would not give a warning.
Bottom line, they tell me it's like running my car with a fuel gauge that doesn't give accurate info, but still sends fuel to the engine.
Battery has 4.5 plus hours running time, but gives the red light warning in battery icon with one hour left - and shuts down with no warning when there is 14 minutes (4%) left (these are the 2nd battery's numbers)
Battery obviously does not talk to my iBook, though it runs fine, so far. (In about this Mac, under Battery it showed these numbers after the first charge:
Full Charge Capacity 4400
Remaining Capacity 4335
Amperage-860
Voltage 16085
Cycle Count 0
OWC says they don't understand the Amperage number...
What to do?
Everyone at OWC seems to agree that the battery can't harm the iBook and it certainly has a good run time. If I hadn't been looking often at the battery icon it might never had been apparent that it went red so early, though the shut down without warning is a problem, but I can work around this...

  • RESULT - Free Replacement Battery from Apple UK

    Hi to All,
Like a lot of you I had problems with my battery. I noticed earlier this year my MBP would power-off when there was still lots of battery charge left. It gradually got worse and worse. A few months ago I noticed whenever I pulled the power cord out it would switch off and recently I can only use it when it's plugged in.
I read about the battery problems online, and on this forum. I discovered it was a very common problem. I had assumed there was nothing I could do other than buy a new battery, but after reading posts from some of you who have had success getting a replacement one I thought I'd call Apple. Nothing to lose other than cost of phone call. To be honest I wasn't expecting to get any joy as I bought my MBP in May 2006.
I spoke to a overly-friendly guy in Bangalore who kept saying "Don't worry, don't worry. I will sort this out for you". He took my details and serial number etc.. then kept putting me on hold as he spoke to his 'supervisor'. After 15 mins he explained that my battery's serial no. is one that qualified for the replacement programme - but that only applied up to 2 years after purchase. As mine is 30 months old, he had to do some arm twisting and they made an exception for me. He transferred me to a woman in Scotland who gave me a case number etc.. She then passed me onto a dispatch guy.
After 20 mins on the phone my free replacement battery is on it's way. Not sure if I've just been very lucky on this occasion, but I would recommend calling Apple Support wherever you are, before going ahead and forking out for a new battery.

Hmm... Newer Technologies' reseller list includes OWC/esales but they
are not the same; one is a reseller and the other is a manufacturer. A
few product names at OWC are not seen anywhere else unless you look
real hard, but Newer Tech and NuPower can be bought direct from Newer
Technologies online; and a reseller could contact them to carry their stuff.
In any event, if just the plastic is mal-formed, and the section not fitting up
is just a layer of white plastic, that'd be comparatively easy to change. If
nothing else, Apple should have a shorter waiting list on replacement cells
now the recall numbers have been going out to customers. I got mine after
about a two month wait; and after all that waiting, I've gotten over the need
    to use a portable computer. It just sits there and I have to hassle with it;
to keep it charged up and up to date. With winter here, I don't carry it while
travelling anywhere, it'd freeze too easily over the distances I have to go!
Did Newer Tech offer to refund monies and take back these odd batteries?
Have you contacted other battery sales sources for comparative products?
The quality and support plus warranty (and fit, finish, compatibility)
    are all important details.
Some cheap replacements could be dangerous and not suited for use in
the iBook or PowerBook they are intended to replace. I see some at
places like amazon afiliate stores, and wonder what they really are inside.

  • I got a replacement battery, reset the SMC, and my computer will still turn off unexpectedly.

    Early 2011 15" Macbook Pro, 2ghz iz, C0*****F8V.
My original battery wore down to the point where it would not be recognized as available and the computer couldn't power on without shutting down in a few minutes. I ordered a replacement battery, certified Apple genuine, but after 3 days it reached about half charge and the computer died, not turning back on without the adapter. When it did reboot the battery was at 0% and not charging, and the computer was incredibly slow and laggy.
I refunded and returned this battery and got a new one. I've had it installed about 2 days and the computer will still turn off if not plugged in at about 80-85%. I have reset my SMC multiple times and my PRAM as well. coconutBattery says nothing is wrong with the battery.
What can I do? I'm a freelance video editor and this is basically calling me out sick from work for a week now.
    Thanks!

Do these codes refer strictly to the battery, or to possibly other components that interact with it?
I can not give you a definitive answer to that.  The 'x's' which I have marked should be letters.  If so, could you provide them and that may give us a clue:
If that is actually what was generated by the AHT, then I am a bit surprised.
At any rate, the bottom line is that the MBP does not like your battery even though the output information that you provided does not indicate anything adverse.  An Apple battery should correct your problem, I would think, but there is an alternative that I came across yesterday that you might consider.  OWC. a Mac oriented vendor, is now selling replacement batteries for MBPs.

Based on the reputation of the company, I personally would be willing to try their non-Apple branded replacement.  I have dealt with them a fair amount, so my statement is from experience.  Note that is has a 1 year guarantee as do the Apple batteries.  ( I will need a replacement for my 2010 MBP and I will probably purchase it from them)

  • I don't have phone, but the TV says I need to replace battery backup for phone?!?!?!

    Hello,
For three years, we've had Verizon Fios Internet and TV.  We've never had a phone.
Today, the contraption Verizon plugged in the wall (sadly, I'm not really sure what it is, and had forgotten it existed until today as it's tucked behind some furniture) started beeping and the replace battery indicator light is on.  Furthermore, when I turn on TV, I am greeted with this message:
    My questions are:
    (1) If I don't have phone service, why would I even have a battery backup (much less need to replace it) to allow phone service during power outages?
    (2) Since I have only internet and TV, can I safely go without replacing this battery?
    (3) If the answer to #2 is yes, then how do I get the thing in the wall to stop beeping every 30 minutes?
Thank you in advance to any responses.

You can unplug the battery in your optical network terminal (ONT) and the message needing to replace the battery will go away.  Verizon customer service did confirm the battery is only for phone service when power is off.
I was only able to find 3 links on the alarm / battery backup.  It looks like they never thought about people who did not want the phone feature and to silence the beeping with the battery removed?
I don't know how frequently my unit beeps, but I don't normally hear it because it is in my garage.  I don't know if it has a pattern to when it beeps; but when I'm in the garage, I sometimes hear a single loud beep for about 1 second.
I imagine the battery must enable the laser to function when the power is off besides supply power to the copper phone lines in your house for a line powered phone.  I would assume then that if one had a UPS to power the computer and router and a good battery in the BBU; then one could have an internet when the power is off too?  Verizon user manuals don't mention this, so it might not work?

  • Worth replacing battery?

For about a year now I've been using my Macbook Pro without a battery because it became warped and was making the trackpad unusable (sits right above the battery so the cursor would fly across the screen or get locked into one of the corners or act as if I was clicking continuously).  Everything works fine if I don't have the battery in and just have it plugged into the wall.
Went to my oh-so-helpful Apple Store recently (am I the only one who never gets good service there?) and the told me they "don't do batteries anymore" and that I would have to buy it online.  I'm not too keen on buying a 150 dollar battery that already didn't last me a single year of use without some kind of idea of whether I'll be able to put a new battery in and not have the same problems.  Looking at my current battery, it's definately warped but I'm not sure whether that caused some sort of warping on the Macbook itself (at which point a new battery would do nothing for me).
Has anyone experienced this problem and successfully replaced the battery afterwards?  Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
    Thank you, -d

    1. I don't know the background on your MBP. But it seems that either you're still under warranty (and can probably get a replacement battery as a part of the warranty) or aren't (for whatever reasons). In the first case, I'd make your way to your local Apple Store to replace your defective battery. In any case, contacting your local Genius will verify the warped battery and its unusability.
    2. I've not experienced this issue, but if you aren't under warranty, you have several options. You can continue to use your MBP without the battery. Or your can purchase a new battery. These are widely available on the web, and although the MBP is not officially user replaceable, it can be done in under ten minutes. They're usually considerably less than $150, though I couldn't determine the vintage of your machine from your post.

    After reading the number of people on this forum who experienced the same problem I faced (my T61p 9 cell battery went from fine to dead overnight), I took the advice of the contributors and purchased a new, genuine Lenovo replacement battery from a seller on e-bay.  I compared the new battery to my original battery and here's the test results for each of the 2 batteries;

After charging the replacement battery overnight, the battery gauge never went above showing 24% charged.  I unplugged the AC adapter and it went from 24% to its current level of 5% in about 15 minutes.  After plugging the AC adapter back into the computer, the battery will not charge.

It is hard to be sure without seeing it, but best guess is that the battery charging circuitry on the motherboard has died. If you still have remaing warranty, now is the time to use it.

  • Replacement battery not working properly

    Hello,
I have a G72 Notebook and I just recently bought a replacement battery that is not working properly.
I think that the laptop is just not able to communicate with the battery to find out how much power it has left.
I'm pretty sure that the battery is taking charge just fine (although the icon says, "plugged in, not charging" because I used it for a couple hours today and it never changed from "41%".
Right now it says "0%" but continues to power my computer if I unplug it.
I've tried cleaning the connectors and I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the battery driver.
My old battery still charges just fine and works perfectly it just doesn't last more than an hour or so.
I ordered the replacement battery that it listed on my old battery, but it seems to not snap in quite right.
It fits in my computer, it just isn't as smooth to snap in as my old one is.  As far as I can tell it's exactly the same except I think some of the little plastic parts have slightly different sizes.
    Thanks for any help!

  • MacBook battery drained after small soda spill. Is replacing battery enough

I had my MacBook in my backpack inside my Incase case when the soda I had in my bag spilled. My Incase case was soaked and my laptop got wet as well. If that wasn't bad enough, the side of the MacBook where all the USB ports are was the side that got wet. The laptop still works but only if it's connected to the adapter. I bought a replacement battery, but before I change it, I wanna know if replacing the battery is all that I need to do. Or should I bring it in for an Apple employee to look at?

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but... most likely you will be faced with more serious problems.
If I was you I would immediately remove the battery and unplug it if it's plugged in. Open it up and clean it up thoroughly as soda will dry and cause shorts. Only after you get EVERYTHING cleaned off do you introduce power to access what the damage may be. The likelihood of permanent damage is very high.
    Sorry.

  • Replacement battery is falling apart!!

I had my battery replaced as apart of the exchange program that took place some time ago. I noticed today that the replacement battery is falling apart. The top plate is lifting off of the battery, on the edge where the 5 power indicator lights are. The rest of the battery looks to be in fine condition, so I don't think the entire battery is in danger, but potentially it could be, if the top plate lifts off anymore. My big question is, my warranty has run out, but since this was the replacement battery that Apple gave me during the battery exchange program, should they replace this for me at no cost? If so, could someone post a link to an email address I can write to, to tell them of this problem & hopefully have it resolved? And for arguments sake, this battery is barely used. I use my laptop as a desktop, which means, I have the battery out about 98% of the time. So this wasn't caused by normal wear & tear. Please let me know what I can do, thanks!

For starters, you should not be running your MacBook with the battery removed. The battery gets very minor charge/discharge cycles while it is plugged in which helps to keep the battery exercised at least somewhat. You should make it a point to calibrate your battery however if you primarily use it plugged in... every few months or so. Your machines performance also drops significantly when run with the battery removed... and unless you are plugged into a UPS, you risk losing anything you may be working on, but haven't saved, if you have a power fluctuation. There are certain conditions during which A/C power does not supply enough current. The battery makes up for that difference. This is why the performance is designed to drop when run without the battery being installed.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1490
There is no email to contact Apple for your problem. You should give Apple a call directly and explain your problem. Only they will be able to let you know if your battery replacement would be covered.

  • Replace battery 3gs

how to replace battery 3gs? i plugged my iphone 3gs into a 24v socket on my wagon before i realised what id done the phone shut down i unplugged it immediatly a turned the phone back on and it worked fine but i noticed the battery life depleting rapidly and now the phone wont switch back on even when i plug into itunes hopfully the battery is just fried any help would be much apprieciated\ cheers!

The battery is not user-replaceable. And using an incorrect and inapproved charger would probably void your warranty. You'll need to take or send your iPhone to Apple for service, and probably will have to pay for replacement of the iPhone, though they may just charge you for the battery. For pricing, select your country as appropriate on this page:

    Mike,
Good point it will kill Apple to see us Zebra's. I just am so glad you answered me. I was not going to order a black one with the warning at the Apple Store. "The black battery is not compatable with a white MacBook". I am so happy to be able to have a spare battery when I am in Afghanistan next month.I will only use it for a short period of time but, it would be a disaster if it ran out of power. I will not plug my MacBook in their maybe 170 to 240 volt maybe 50 hertz power. I tried a made for their power electric razor( Do not use the Water near your face). The razor went on hifire and melted down. I can imagine what that power could do to my MacBook.Thank you so much for your help.

  • Replaced battery/Got shocked/Adapters Overheat/All PBs

I've been told to start a new topic in this section, even though it seems to be relevant to all PowerBook models - I'm on a 12" PB.
I am hoping that by comparing experiences, we can get more information about what is actually going on, and what we have to do to fix it.
I have recently become aware of a mild buzzing-type sensation that I associate with electricity when using my PowerBook while plugged in.
I was alerted to this problem after being shocked, and not lightly, in a situation where other causes would be freak occurrences.
This incident led to me becoming aware of my overheating power adapter, which does not appear to be in the adapter itself, however, because plugging my computer into an otherwise fine adapter also causes that adapter to overheat.
One possible factor in either or both of these problems might be battery replacement. (My replacement battery from the recall is just within the ill-fitting limits to deny re-replacement.)
[Poll removed - polls are against TOU]
if you have had these problems and actually figured out what was wrong - what did you do to fix these issues?
    PowerBook G4 12" Mac OS X (10.4.9)

When I noticed this problem, my first steps were to try different outlets with and without the grounding plug, with and without a surge protector and in different houses.
    I reset my PMU.
I queried myself as to what software I had recently installed which could have affected my hardware functioning.
I would have noticed, and replaced my adapter rather than be concerned about it, had the cord been frayed, but this has not been a problem for me.

    Hi buddy,
In my opinion the easiest way is contacting an authorized service provider because they sell original Toshiba spare parts only.
I would recommend contacting the guys, give them a call or write an email. They can order a new battery for you.
By the way: On the Toshiba website you will find a list of all authorized service providers.
