  • Disk Utility Reports Volume Check Failed

I've been having some trouble with one of my two internal hard drives, so by mistake I ran Disk Utility from the Panther install disk on my PowerPC G5 running 10.4.10...I didn't realize until after I'd run Disk Repair that it wasn't the Tiger install disk I was using.
The Disk Repair Utility from the 10.3 install disk reported an "Invalid Leaf Record Count(it should be 41 instead of 210)". It also said that "2 HFS Volumes Repaired, 1 Volume Could Not Be Repaired". This was particularly puzzling since there were only two partitions on that internal hard drive. What was this other Volume it referred to?
Upon realizing that I was using an old CD, I ran Disk Utility from the Tiger install disk, and got a report "Invalid Catalog Record Type. Volume Check Failed."
Can anyone shed any light on what this all means, and how I can fix it?
    Many thanks in advance!
    -Zina

Thanks, abrody, for your reply. First, I ws lucky in that there was no indication other than Retrospect reporting a problem with this, the client machine, so all data was available and the system seemed to be working fine (other than the error report).
Here's what worked for me: I ran Disk Repair (from the Tiger install disk)on all 4 partitions on my second internal HD, and came up with a clean report. I erased one of the partitions and, using SuperDuper, I cloned the system partition from the troublesome partition on the other internal HD. Then I ran Disk Repair from the install disk again, on the cloned partition, to be sure I didn't carry over the problem with the clone. It came up clean.
Then I erased the troublesome system partition and cloned the system back over from the trouble-free partition clone.
I ram Disk Repair again from the install disk, just to make sure everything came up with a clean bill of health, which it did.
But I'm going to keep a close eye on this internal HD, since I think it's possible it's failing. I always back up all my data every night, so at least I'm covered there.
Again, thanks so much for your reply and help.

  • Reporting Volume Tier Usage in Enterprise Manager

The gridview at  "Compellent Enterprise Manager > Storage > Storage Types > Assigned Redundant > Volumes" displays separated tier usage for each volume. As I need to be able to report on the tier split at the volume level (same information in this view) but I don’t see an option for this in reports, how can one extract this information as a csv file?

I don't think so, the only ones that can be scheduled are when you click "Edit Data Collector Settings" then "Automated Reports"... You can play with those but I don't think they drill down as far as you are looking for...
This is about as granular you can get:
You can try playing with the scripting to see if you can make it but I'm not sure if the scripting allows you to get that much detail or not.

  • Disk Utility reports 'Volume could not be repaired'  Now what?

Disk Utility reports that my internal HD cannot be repaired (I tried booting to the installation CD as-well-as a Superduper image with the same result). Here is the complete dialogue:
    Verify and Repair disk “iMac_HD”
    Checking HFS Plus volume.
    Checking Extents Overflow file.
    Checking Catalog file.
    Illegal name
    Checking multi-linked files.
    Checking Catalog hierarchy.
    Checking Extended Attributes file.
    Checking volume bitmap.
    Checking volume information.
    Repairing volume.
The volume iMac_HD could not be repaired.
Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit
    1 HFS volume checked
1 volume could not be repaired because of an error
    Repair attempted on 1 volume
1 volume could not be repaired
Unfortunately the backup image has the same problem, so no use restoring the internal HD from it. So what do I do now? I read on a forum that the 'illegal name' error is caused by Photoshop CS, but didn't see a solution. Help!
     20" Intel iMac (2.0GB RAM, 256MB VRAM, 500GB HD)   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

I get this error occassionally too. In those cases I take my original install dvd, put it in, reboot and hold the c key.
It then starts an install (don't worry, it won't do anything). When the install screen appears, in the top menu you can select Disk Utility.
Repair the disk from there, it will probably manage now. I guess something is interfering with Disk Utility when all of OS X has loaded.
Once the disk is repaired, verify/repair permissions, exit the program and reboot (don't hold and press c this time around).
    Hope this helps.
    Lars.

  • Time Machine reported 'volume is read only' & rolled back to old state

I've been in love with Time Machine ever since Leopard arrived. This has all come crashing down over the last few days...
Firstly I got a new 1tb drive, so I mirrored my old TM drive (using SuperDuper), and all seemed to be fine – backups were chugging along for a week or so as normal on the new, bigger drive.
A few days ago I got a time machine error stating that "The backup volume is read only". I thought this was strange as the drive was working without issue for a week. I checked permissions, format, etc and all were set correctly. I restarted and Time Machine kicked back in and all seemed to work fine other the fact that there seemed to be no backups created for 6 hours before I got the error message. Then I made a scary realisation, somehow the files on my computer had been restored to a state from 6 hours prior, all the work I'd done for the morning was gone.
I put this down to a one off glitch (stupid, stupid, stupid). I've today got the same "backup volume is read only" message again, and this time around my files have been restored to a state from 3 days ago. Fortunately this time around Time Machine has a backup of the important stuff a few hours ago.
I am now very worried about using the same disk with Time Machine. I also have no idea if Time Machine is the culprit (but logic tells me with the rolling back of files it must be). What should I do? How can I figure out what is going on?

This may fix the "read only" problem:
What to do if Time Machine reports you don't have permission
This was posted in the Apple Discussions by V.K. I have only modified it slightly to be more generic.
The problem seems to be that 10.5.6 changes permissions on a file so that even the root user doesn't have write peivileges. I have no idea why they did this. The workaround suggested in [an]other post will probably work, too, but i did something less drastic. Instead of deleting the file I changed permissions on it, and it worked just fine. An added benefit is that the permission change seems to stick, so you don't have to delete the file every time you change a drive.
[Open the Terminal application in your Utilities folder. At the prompt [enter] the following command:
    sudo chmod 644 /volumes/"TM drive name"/.xxxxxxxxxxxx
The name of the file .xxxxxxxxxxxx is based on the MAC address of your computer and will be different for every computer. Put the name of the TM drive in the above and keep the quotes.
You'll have to enter your admin password (which you won't see) which is normal.
This was edited by Kappy just for cleanup.
Enable Finder to Show Invisible Files and Folders
Open the Terminal application in your Utilities folder. At the prompt enter or paste the following command line then press RETURN.
    defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE
To turn off the display of invisible files and folders enter or paste the following command line and press RETURN.
    defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles FALSE
Alternatively you can use one of the numerous third-party utilities such as TinkerTool or ShowHideInvisibleFiles - VersionTracker or MacUpdate.

  • BW Report requirement (Trend Analysis Report (Project Systems))

    Hello, BW experts……
    I need some help….
This requirement is for Trend Analysis Report (Project Systems)
I am loading data from ODS to Cube as a Delta Upload
ODS is getting data from R/3 data source as a full upload (no delta in the Datasource)
I added one custom field in the cube (0PS_C04) and that custom field (Date field) is going to pick current date (Sys date) through formula in the update rules.
When I am loading data from ODS to Cube, if the value is coming to the amount field, then the current date field is going to get the current date to the cube
If there is no record is updated in R/3, then delta is not going to update any record to the Cube.
If no record is updated to the cube to the particular project number, then Date field is not going to get any data from update rules.
But I need to see all dates in the cube even though there is no update in the R/3 for that project.
    Example:
    Proj---day1        2       3      4     5      6
    -XYZ---     10        5      --      3     --     2
In the report now I am able to see some thing like this
    Project   day1        2      4     6
    XYZ        10        5     3     2
But I am expecting some thing like this…
    Project   day1        2       3      4     5      6
    XYZ        10        15       15     18     18     20
Can anyone please help me in this…..
    Any input is strongly appreciated
    Thanks,
    Rajesh

    Rajesh,
Exception aggregation with last value and reference characteristic as calday should solve the problem.

  • Programmatically Reporting Volume Tier Usage

The gridview at  "Compellent Enterprise Manager > Storage > Storage Types > Assigned Redundant > Volumes"
displays separated tier usage for each volume. As I need to be able to report on the tier split at the volume level (same information in this view) but I don’t see an option for this in reports. I’m aware that this can be collected manually via Compellent Enterprise Manager (http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/storage/f/4427/t/19621614) but I will need to do this frequently so I’m looking for a programmatic solution.
    What I’ve tried:
    1. I have already investigated the PowerShell module but the information is not available there.
    2. I have looked in the database, the [compmsadb].[compmsauser].[StorageVolume] table looked promising at first as contains the following headers:
     Column                 | Type
    SystemSN               | int
    TimeStmp               | datetime
    IsArch                 | int
    IsLong                 | int
    VolIndex               | bigint
    SnapHist               | varchar(64)
    Name                   | varchar(64)
    Type                   | varchar(16)
    NumPitcs               | int
    ConfigSizeMB           | bigint
    UsedSizeMB             | bigint
    ReplayMB               | bigint
    TotalMB                | bigint
    ActualSizeMB           | bigint
    Tier1Raid10            | int
    Tier1Raid55            | int
    Tier1Raid59            | int
    Tier2Raid10            | int
    Tier2Raid55            | int
    Tier2Raid59            | int
    Tier3Raid10            | int
    Tier3Raid55            | int
    UnknownTier            | int
Yet all the Tier entries are 0. – Assume this is normal?
    3. I have tried the Storage Center Command Utility (java -jar compcu.jar -c "volume show") and the information is not there either
anyone know how to get this information?

  • TM suddenly reporting "volume not repairable"

I've got 2 months of backups nicely stocked on my Time Capsule. Yesterday I had to restart my TC because the internet had gotten slow (this happens occasionally). I happened to switch the speed from 802.11b/g compatible to 802.11n/5ghz while I was at it, hoping to improve speeds (which it did). However, Time Machine is now reporting that my backup volume is "not repairable by this computer" and I must "back up data and reformat as soon as possible." HUH??
First of all, I have no other disk big enough to back up the backup. And would it even do any good, since the volume is somehow broken? But more importantly, how can I avoid losing 2 months of backups? This kind of thing should not happen. Ever.

Well, the first time I tried it, it failed immediately saying it could not be repaired.
After scouring the Internet for more information on this BUG, I found suggestions on how to get repair to work.
Now when I try repair it starts the process but then appears to enter an infinite loop. One time it ran until there was "6 minutes" left. After 24 hours it just kept spewing out the same stuff (continuing to say 6 minutes left).
I stopped it and started again. This time it ran until it said "41 minutes left". It is still running and has been at the "41 minutes" mark for over 12 hours.
The thing that ir really annoying about Apple is their arrogant attitude. They think they are perfect, they don't give people any information. When they do get around to fixing bugs many times they don't tell us what they fixed.
I still think this was a bug that was introduced in one of the latest OS updates and I think it has to do with halting a backup while it is in progress (e.g., closing the lid on a laptop while a backup is running).

  • Service Level Reporting - Trend Analysis data missing in the report

    Hi Experts,
I'm working with sap solution manager and Business Process Monitoring.
I can't get to know how to configure the system in order to get Service Level Reporting collecting data for "Trend analysis" related to business processes.
In fact, in my reports each trend analysis graph (last week/month six months) is empty, no matter which aggregation type (AVG, MAX or SUM) I use.
It seems like the BI within the Solution Manager doesn't collect the data, or doesn't provide them to SL reporting.
How can I check whether something is missing in my configuration?
Thanks in advance for your help!
    Regards,
    Paolo

  • Reg: Exception  - Price Trend Report

    Friends
Presently i am working in MM report "Price Trends"
In this report there is row called, price (I.e) (Invoice Amount / Invoice Quantity).
i am showing price trends for last 12 months.
My Requirement is,higest & Lowest price in row wise should have exception colors.
Can anybody let me know, how to go with this exceptions without giving constant values in Exception.
Points will be awarded for Right answers
    Regards
    RAJU SARAVANAN

I need to compare the price value and according the exception shoud work rather than giving constant exception values.
Hence the higest price exception colour could be in GREEN and lowest price exception colour could be in RED.
    Any Idea from anybody....?

  • Does newScale has any built-in tools for "trend" monitoring?

Does newScale has any built-in tools for "trend" monitoring?
A couple questions being asked by my peers and I am not sure how to answers on 'trending' like:
How did a user get here (to the order form - through searching or navigating the service catalog)?
Is the service catalog in RC helpful or working as it is intended?
The team is working on putting together the service catalog for the RC, and they would like to know whether there's any tools available in newScale that would have some statistic on how people are using it.
    Any suggestion?

If your question of "is the service catalog in RC helpful or working as intended?" can be answered by the order volume trends, you might want to explore using the Reporting and Analytics capability in RequestCenter.
You can design these reports to provide the volume trends (even with charts):
Order Volume by Service Group over time
Order Volume by Service over time
Month over month service completion volume
    etc.

  • Opportunities with volume changes

Our company has opportunities that can bring in revenue over several months, quarters, or even years. More often than not, a volume trend will be associated with the revenue.
Is there a way to properly forecast the volume changes within a particular opportunity, or do I need to have our sales team create a new opportunity each time the the unit volume adjusts?
    For Example:
    Opportunity XYZ:
    Q1 2009 = 1000 units x $1 = $1000
    Q2 2009 = 2000 units x $1 = $2000
    Q3 2009 = 3000 Units x $1 = $3000
    Q3 2009 = 1500 Units x $1 = $1500
Thank you in advnace for your help.

Thank you for the feedback. Yes the product revenue object will address my needs. However, its not very intuitive for the sales team to use. The opportunity has sales stage, the revenue has sales stage... they both have closed dates. Its somewhat of a mess to get people up to speed. I have found it much easier to not use the revenue object and keep it simple within the Opportunity details.

  • Before report trigger execution sequence

    Hi,
What is the execution sequence of the before report trigger ?
In the report builder help, the definition says "The Before Report trigger fires before the report is executed *but after queries are parsed and data is fetched*."
But the oracle document "Oracle iDS Reports: Build Internet Reports: Volume 2: Student Guide" says
"Before a report executes; *after queries are parsed, but before records are fetched*
I have built a report where, i am populating a table A with some data in the before report trigger. The data model query is a "select * from A ". But the report o/p is blank since the before report trigger was fired after the query was parsed and fetched. My understanding is that the queries should only be parsed but not fetched before the "before report trigger"
    Regards,
    Suresh

    Hi,
    this is an important question.
In fact the online help is right: Before its execution the query is parsed and data fetching is strarted.
Thus any plsql operation that may influence the query and the data accessed is too late in the BEFOREREPORT trigger.
THe issue is that there is no error message or warning. THe problem scenario bandwidth is wide: From "no problem at all" to constant or intermittent error scenarios or worst case unrecognized problems like missing records or any strange behavior in the layout.
So very carefull while using BEFOREREPORT trigger
    Ciao

  • Grouping two sections in one report

    Hello,
I am newbie to Crystal Reports.I have one doubt in designing a report.
The proto for the report is:
    Date: XX:XX:XXXX
                                    Sales Report - Value
    S No     Item         Increase    Decrease
    1           XXX
    2           YYY
                                    Sales Report - Volume
    S No     Item         Increase    Decrease
    1           XXX
    2           YYY
Here, there is a hyperlink in Item in both Value Report and Volume Report, which opens a subreport about the item.
How can i proceed the proto. It is easy to group an item if it is only Sales - Value Report.
Here, both Value and Volume report should present in main report. How can i proceed with Sales Report - Value and Sales Report - Volume in a single report file, without subreport concept.
If i use the subreport here, i am not able to include a subreport- hyperlink in Item.
    Thanks in advance.
    With Regards,
    Suresh M.

In the main report insert a group on Value and in group footer place a subreport that consist of data under Volume group. Pass the Volume field value from main report to subreport using change subreport links by right clicking the subreport.
