Reporting on Messages sent to Distribution Group

Hello,
I am trying to write a script which will check both our hub servers for messages sent to a Distribution Groups in a list, identify the sender, and then export the results to a CSV with the DGs name.
import-csv c:\scripts\dl.csv  |where {Get-MessageTrackingLog -resultsize unlimited -recipients $_.smtpaddress -eventid receive}|select-object sender,recipients|export-csv c:\scripts\$_.smtpaddress.csv
This doesn't create individual csvs named after the DG and doesn't check both hub transport servers.
$get-transportserver -id *hub* obtains both our hub servers, but I haven't found a way to use it in the command.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Robert

Hi Robert,
I have a test in my environment. You can add the Server parameter to above script to specify the Hub server. But if you use value such as "*hub*", the following error will occur.
More than one Exchange servers match the identity "*hub*". Please specify a unique identity.
Based on my knowledge, I'm afraid that you need to export these reports separately. One for hub1, the other for hub2.
Hope my clarification is helpful.

  • Looking for good tool to report on unused Mailboxes, unused Distribution Groups, and unused Public Folders

I have evaluated the following products.
    Quest (Dell) MessageStats
    Enow
    StealthAudit
StealthAudit looked to be the best as they also group like mailboxes with like permissions for Office 365 migrations, but this was by far the most expensive.
We are looking to clean up our environment to eventually migrate to Office 365.  Any advice on a product that would report on unused Mailboxes, unused Distribution Groups, and unused Public Folders that would be great.
    d

    Hi,
In your case, you can use the following cmdlet to determine unused mailboxes. If a mailbox has never logged on, the Lastlogontime is empty.
    Get-Mailbox|Get-MailboxStatistics |fl DisplayName,Lastlogontime
Use the cmdlet below to get publicfolder's last access time.
    Get-PublicFolderStatistics |fl name,LastAccessTime
Get all distribution lists used over last 30 days.
    Get-MessageTrackingLog -EventId Expand -ResultSize Unlimited |Sort-Object RelatedRecipientAddress | Group-Object RelatedRecipientAddress |Sort-Object Name | Select-Object @{label=”PrimarySmtpAddress”;expression={$_.Name}}, Count
Hope this can be helpful to you.

Everything works ok except the blackberry doesnt sync any messages sent to distribution lists he is part of.
Outlook mailbox is working fine, showing all emails.
I'd imagine this is a common question but the search is throwing up an error and I cant find an answer!

  • Distribution Group customization

I want to create a rule on the distribution group, where by when the MD sends an email to that DL, users receive the email starting with Dear <MemberName of the DL) e.g. If Jack and Mary are members of a DL Finance, each receives and email start with:
Dear Jack and Mary receives the same email starting with Dear Mary. However, the email Jack receives Mary is BCC, same apples for Mary

    Hi KimaniBob,
Based on my knowledge, Exchange has no built-in function to rewrite the messages body when sending messages to a distribution group.
    Thanks for your understanding.

  • Any way to present standard text in response to a Lync message sent to a distribution group?

Our company uses MOC/Lync as a way for employees to engage the Tier 1 Help Desk with questions.  The Tier 1 Help Desk is setup as a distribution list and employees send a MOC message to that distribution list.  When there is a broad system issue,
the Tier 1 Help Desk typically gets inundated with messages from everyone reporting the same issue.  It would be great during this type of event if any message sent to the Tier 1 distribution list could be intercepted and replied to with an
automatic "We are aware of a system issue with xyz and are working to resolve it."  This would hopefully let the employee know that IT is aware of the issue and working on it and IT can therefore ignore their message if it is in fact about this
issue.  Is anyone aware of a way to implement this type of feature?

    Hi,
I don't think you'll be able to achieve this natively in Lync. The only thing that comes to mind is to define a custom presence state that you could have Tier 1 Help Desk change to in the event of this happening. This would only be a proactive measure though,
and not reactive in providing an auto response.
Looks like you'd either need to jump in and create something leveraging the Lync API's yourself, or see if there's an auto-responder / bot plugin out there already that can do this for you.
I'm not familiar with any myself, but top of a quick google-fu moment pulled up
    http://lyncauto.blogspot.co.uk/
I must stress I've never used this, but its this type of app that might offer you the functionality you're after. I'm sure others here might be able to recommend something that's proven.
    Kind regards
    Ben

  • VMO and message sent to exchange distribution group

Unity Connection 8.6 with VMO 8.6.7
So with the registry setting voicemailupload_play = 1  --- old VM's or emails with WAV attachments will play as a VM
thru the phone but not light up the MWI.
However, if I send a VM using VMO from Outlook to a distribution group on exchange...all the users receive the email (with the WAV)
and VMO controls but they can't play it back via the phone (the requested voice message is no longer available)? Yet the WAV file is
attached right to the message. Playback from VMO to computer works fine.
Is there a way to easily have this playback through the phone given this scenario? Seems like VMO should be able to handle this.
I'd love to have the MWI light up as well, but I'd settle for playback.

    Hi,
We have a distribution group set up for external's to email a couple of internal's, however all the emails that have been sent to the group have not been going into the distribution group members inbox.
I have looked at the exchange message tracking and can see a number of emails sent to the group.
Is there a way to retrieve these emails so they can be sent to the groups members?
    Thanks.

  • Internal email delivery taking very long time (EMAIL WITH attachment sent to large distribution group)

    Hi Fellows
I am facing an issue with Exchange 2010 SP3 (14.03.0123.003) environment. Internal email sent with attachment to an all employee or large-member distribution group chokes the queue on Hub Transport and takes from 7 to 15 minutes to deliver. during this
time period users's emails are also delayed because of transport queue. I am trying to diagnose the root cause for this. Your suggessions and insight might be helpful for me to get it over quickly.
    2 x HT + CAS (WNLB)
    2 x MBX (DAG)
    UserBase: 5000+
    Regards.
    J.A

    Hi,
Generally, a message that has a large attachment or many recipients takes longer for a Hub Transport server to process than a small message that's addressed to only one recipient.
In Exchange 2010, after a message is received by the Hub Transport server, the message is added to the Submission queue. Messages move from the Submission queue through the categorizer. When the message is categorized, a recipient's e-mail
address is resolved to an object in Active Directory. This query determines the mailbox associated with that e-mail address and which Mailbox server is hosting that mailbox.
For more information about Internal message Routing, please refer to the following link.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb232193(v=exchg.141).aspx
In addition, Slow network bandwidth will effect email delivery. We can increase the network bandwidth to take a test. Low computer performance will also affect the delivery. If sending internal email without attachment to all employee or
large-member distribution group, will they take the same long time to deliver?
    Best Regards.

  • TS3147 After installing Mountain Lion, I tried to scan from my Canon MX870 and received the message: "MP Navigator EX quit unexpectedly. Click Reopen to open the application again. A report will be sent to Apple,"

After installing Mountain Lion, I tried to scan from my Canon MX870 and received the message: "MP Navigator EX quit unexpectedly. Click Reopen to open the application again. A report will be sent to Apple,"  This problem happened right after I installed Mountain Lion. I then downloaded Canon's upgraded software and drivers for the MX 870 and the problem was resolved. Now one month later, the problem has returned.

Solved problem with original Canon software.  When I downloaded Canon software upgraded for OS X 10.8, I got all by Navigator Ex. Noticed that on Canon's site, the upgraded version is 3.1; my app was 2.1. Upgraded to 3.1 for Nav. Ex, and it works.
You should still use Image Capture IMHO.  If it was my gear, that's what I would do.  No need to worry about software upgrades.

  • One shared mailbox with multiple distribution groups connected and the sent items folder - how to configure?

    Hi!
I have been struggling for a while now with the following issue.
    For starters:
We are using exchange 2010 in combination with outlook 2013 on client computers.
Cause of the limitations concerning the number of mailboxes in outlook im looking for a solution to receive and reply
to multiple aliasses. So i did the following:
    1. Configured one shared mailbox.
    2. Configured multiple distribution groups
    3.  made the shared mailbox a member of the distribution groups
    4. Configured full access and send as permissions for myself on the shared mailbox ( testing )
    5. Gave send as permissions to the shared mailbox in Active directory.
    6.  Logged in to OWA to setup rules for the shared mailbox.
I now receive emails from all connected distribution groups in the shared mailbox and also in the right folder.
I do however have to select the proper from address when i reply to an email.
the email sent by the main SMTP of the shared mailbox is placed into the sent folder of the shared mailbox.
I setup the senddelagate blabla in register.....
When i sent an email as one of the connected distribution groups it fails to put the sent item in the sent items folder of the shared mailbox. The email is sent using the proper address but placed in the sent folder of my main account.
I want this emails to end up in the sent items folder of the shared mailbox. Or even better, in a sent items folder for each of the addresses.
    Any suggestions ?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi,
    As what
Rajkumar says, sending as a shared mailbox(full access permission) will put the email in the sent item of shared mailbox. But it cannot be located in the “sent item” of a distribution group. Because
it is a distribution group instead of a enabled user mailbox.
According to your further description, I understand that the reason why you configure that is some users reached the
limitation about the number of Exchange accounts you can include in the same Outlook profile. Is it rights? If I misunderstand, please point it out.
By default, user can only add 10 Exchange accounts to the same profile. You can customize the limit to the number Exchange accounts in the same profile using the following registry data:
    Key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\policies\Microsoft\exchange
    DWORD: MaxNumExchange
Value: integer value starting at 1 (default = 10 if DWORD is missing)

  • Dynamic Distribution Groups - Message Delivery Restrict to Security Group

    Hi,
I have created a dynamic distribution group and want to restrict mail delivery to only accept messages from members of a security group.  How do I achieve this?
The idea is the DDG's are set with their criteria and if anyone leaves/joins the relevant SG then they will have permission to send to those DDG's.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi ,
In exchange management console it is very simple to provide the access. Please follow steps.
1.Open the Exchange Management Console (EMC)
    2.Locate the distribution list .
3.Right-click on it and select Properties
4.Open the Mail Flow Settings tab
    4.Select Message Delivery Restrictions
5.Then select the option only senders in the following list and add the DL that you would like to provide access to send email to that group.

  • Delete emails older than 3 months sent to a distribution group

    Hi,
Have a strange request hopefully someone can help me with.
We have Exchange 2010 on site. There are a large number of casual staff who are only at work for a few months of the years, then are away for a long period. These staff are still receiving all of the Everybody emails that are sent out, causing their mailboxes
to fill up and stop receiving emails.
I have tried the usual searches and have found solutions for deleting email with specific titles and for specific dates; but I cannot find any information on being able to delete based on the 'To' field of an email.
    My query is -
Is there a way to delete emails from all mailboxes in an organisation that have been sent to a specific distribution group that are over three months old?
All help is always gratefully received.
    Thanks,
    Peter D.

    Hi,
I have found a solution to this issue.
Am posting it for when i need it later, or if it helps anyone else.
Using Powershell, i use the following code to be able to search using the To field, which in this case is the name of the distribution group.
#Add Exchange 2010 snapin if not already loaded
    if (!(Get-PSSnapin | where {$_.Name -eq "Microsoft.Exchange.Management.PowerShell.E2010"}))
    Add-PSSnapin Microsoft.Exchange.Management.PowerShell.E2010 -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue
    get-Mailbox | search-mailbox -searchquery to:"DistributionGroup" -DeleteContent
Now just to add the date variable...

  • Is there a way to establish when a distribution group email address last received a message?

We currently use Exchange 2007 but are planning to migrate to 2013 soon. As part of the prep for migration I want to tidy things up, and part of this tidy up is to remove unused distribution groups.
The user community is one that refuses to let go of anything (our retention policy is keep everything, forever), so if I ask them if they still need these groups the answer will be yes for all.
So, is there any way I can pull a report of the last time the email addresses associated with these groups were used?

Apart from above, once you find unused users list, You can try below steps to remove them in exchange 2007 : Simply open the group from the recipient configuration, Distribution group node (or from Active Directory Users and Computers). Select the members
tab and select the user and click the X.
You can take a look at this helpful article to gather more information about this concern : http://windowsitpro.com/exchange-server/exchange-2007-distribution-groups
Furthermore, when you are preparing to migrate database from exchange 2007 to 2013, you can have a look at this proficient resource available at (http://www.exchangemigrationtool.com/) that would also be
a fantastic approach for a secure migration of mailbox data between two exchange server.

  • Group messages not being sent to all group members...

I am a coach and it is very convenient to create groups and send out mass text messages to provide information to my players quickly. I have created two groups for my 18 player roster, but when I try to send out a text it leaves out one or two players. Please help so that I can get back to easier communication! Thank you! =)

A couple of things to check - are you using the full 10-digit numbers for every contact? Is there a common factor in the players it is leaving out? (Same carrier, type of phone....) Are you using a signature?
Could the players who are not getting your messages have blocks or parental controls on their phones? Is it messages sent a certain times of the day? Is it always the same players not getting the messages?
Sorry for all the questions, but I'm trying to narrow down the possibilities and figure out why it's not going to certain phones....
