Reports Server Process gets crashed in 10.1.2.3.0

Hi,
We have 5 standalone production reports servers (10.1.2.3) load balanced through netscalar. We observed that the reports server process gets crashed intermittently which kills the reports jobs in the queue. Error as below is seen in the ipm.log under $ORACLE_HOME/opmn
08/08/12 10:38:21 [4] Process Crashed: rep_brnors05_frs_standalone~ReportsServer~rep_brnors05_frs_standalone~1 (498925945:6108) - Restarting
08/08/12 10:38:27 [4] Starting Process: rep_brnors05_frs_standalone~ReportsServer~rep_brnors05_frs_standalone~1 (498925946:0)
08/08/12 10:38:34 [4] Process Alive: rep_brnors05_frs_standalone~ReportsServer~rep_brnors05_frs_standalone~1 (498925946:2836)
Any idea wat could be causing the problem.. any configuration changes that need to be done like to set or increase some timeout parameters in the rep_server.conf, etc. Each time process crash is for exact 6 secs. It clears the failed jobs queue during this time. Do not see any jobs starting or ending during these 6 seconds.
Reports server version - 10.1.2.3.0
Platform - Windows
Report server type - Standalone
(Affecting our production environment ... Any suggestions, workarounds are highly appreciated)

Michael,
Below is the file change. When we set it to 'true' Viewer performed correctly.

2. Then a new configuration parameter "passNullParameterAsNull" needs to be set in configuration.xml under <viewer section with default value as false and which is an optional one. Usage :
<viewer queryRefreshPeriod="3000" queryRequestTimeout="1000" longRequestRefreshPeriod="6000" longRequestTimeout="10000" userDefinedConnections="true" passNullParameterAsNull="true" logLevel="debug" laf="dc_blaf" pageNavigation="true" switchWorksheetBehavior="prompt" defaultLocale="en" disableBrowserCaching="false" enableAppsSSOConnection="false">
When passNullParameterAsNull="false" , that means, when null is passed as parameter from one sheet to another during drill to link, the value will be converted in between to the value which is set as "ShowNullValueAs" in second sheet. eg: if ShowNullValueAs = "" in second sheet. Null value passed from first sheet will reach as value "" in second sheet. If passNullParameterAsNull="true", then Null value will always be passed as Null to second sheet irrespective of the value of "ShowNullValueAs" in second sheet.

  • Change job owner for job owned by a report server process

Question on a SQL 2008 Enterprise Edition (64-bit)
I have changed the owner of a couple of jobs (owned by a report server process) using Management Studio. The new user has sysadmin role just like the previous one had.
Then I kept thinking on the job's legend: "This job is owned by a report server process. Modifying this job could result in database incompatibilities. Use Report Manager or Management Studio to update this job."
Did I do it at the right place or I had to do it at the Report Manager?
I went to report manager and I was not able to find where I could change this.
So, Did I do it at the right place by doing it at Management Studio?
    Thanks!
    Paulino

    Hi Paulino PP,
According to your description, you want to know some information about changing owner of jobs in SQL Agent. Right?
In this scenario, you did the right thing. We should edit it in SQL Server Manager Studio. Since the new owner has same permission and authority, so the job will be also executed. For some detail information, please refer to the link below:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms178031.aspx
If you have any question, please feel free to ask.

The kinds of issues are usually bugs in the JVM, I would check your 8.1 Service Pack / Operating System combination on this page:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E13196_01/platform/suppconfigs/configs81/81_over/overview.html#1146895
Make sure you're using the latest supported version of the JVM available for your platform.
So if you're using 8.1 SP6 on Solaris SPARC, then you could be using Sun Java 2 SDK 1.4.2_11.
You should also open a support request.

  • Oracle Report Server with Weblogic crash

    Hello,
I am using Report Server 6i on WinNT and the web server used is WebLogic 6.0.. The reports generated are of HTMLCSS format or PDF format.
Cud U please send the replies for the below queries at the earliest..
1.The data in the generated report is well formatted and the pages exceeds 300.
If the report generated is of PDF format then it displays the report in less than 2 minutes.
We do get this report with HTML format also but with out the border for the tables.
Since we need the report with border to the tables, we are using HTMLCSS format. But we are facing problems with HTMLCSS format. HTMLCSS format report never shows up in the browser. The browser just Hangs up
However if the number of pages of the generated report is around 10, then the report is displayed in the browser in HTMLCSS format, without any problem.
Is there any way to get the border to the tables using HTML instead of HTMLCSS or Could u suggest us any solution for displaying report in HTMLCSS format.
    2. If a report requested is of HTMLCSS format, and as mentioned above if the number of pages to be displayed is too large, before the report is displayed completely, if the browser is closed, then the Web Server associated with the Report Server crashes with the following error message based on type of JVM used
Please find the attached Error in quotes :
"In case of Classic JVM, a dialog box is displayed with the following message,

Click on CANCEL to debug the application
In case of Hotspot JVM, the error displayed on the console of the Web Server is

    reason and solutions."
We had contacted the Weblogic people and the SUN people for the crash of the webserver .
We got the following replies from both them
    Weblogic:
Hmm, looks like your native method is causing the JVM to crash. Notice that the current java thread is calling the native method from the Oracle servlet when the crash occurs. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
You need to contact Oracle about this.
    SUN:
Sounds to me like this servlet is executing some native code that does something illegal with memory, like a bad pointer access. That's often the cause of a segmentation violation and this kind of crash report from the JVM.
I would pursue the matter with Oracle, the vendor of your servlet, if you haven't already.
We had posted this in metalink also, but we could not get the solution for this problem.
So could you please look into this and send us the reply ASAP as it is very urgent.
    Regards
    Sudipta

What is the difference between the running and the not running (error) reports?
Do you use chinese characters in all of them?

  • ESXi 4.0  with sun storagetek 2500 array server is getting crashed

    Hi all,
I have configured ESXi 4.0 in an IBM server followed by creating virtual host in that server. The server was working fine until I connect the server with storage array.
    My setup looks like this.
IBM Server installed with ESXi 4.0 (linux version) followed by virtual host creation. the virtual host is Windows 2008 - 64 bit. Once all this setup were made, I have installed a software called CAM module in this server. This module is to manage my Sun storagetek 2500 array family. Suddenly i see my ESXi server (licensed one) is getting crashed. Following is the error message displayed.
    Vmware ESXI release build_164009 x86_64

I got a work around from one of the forum for this similar problem as "increase the swap size may solve this". but i tried that also , but still the issue persists. Swap size is set as twice of the RAM (my ram is with 4 GB,2X dual core AMD processor and HDD capacity is 80GB)
can anyone help me on this.
    With regards,
    Sri

    Hello,
if it's that urgent, why do you post in a user-to-user forum instead of getting in touch with tech support of Vmware, IBM, Microsoft and maybe Sun ?

  • Re-Launching CS3 ID server after a crash.

We have an IDCS3 Server running on MACOSX, usually started from the terminal ( via an apple script ).
Occasionally after processing a large number of jobs, the server process can crash.
This itself is not too big a problem, but I was wondering if anyone knew how the process could automatically re-launch if it stops for any reason.
    TIA,
    Mike.

This may not be exactly the answer you're looking for, but by switching to launchd you can leverage a lot of the daemon tools built in to the Mac:
    http://developer.apple.com/macosx/launchd.html
You can set your launchd script to start on demand or on boot, and you will also get a "keep alive" mechanism for ensuring IDS CS3 is restarted in the event of a crash:
    http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20071220095645567
If you're looking for an AppleScript solution, sorry I don't have much experience with that. I'd imagine you could assign a pid to the IDS instance, and poll that the process is still active...

  • Privilege require to kill a report server Job

    Hi all.
    I'm using Forms / Reports 11g Rel2 on a Windows box.
What privileges are required to kill a report submitted to a report server (non secure).
Precisely: if you're on the showjobs page, can anyone who access this page kill a job?
Also, is it possible to use CANCEL_REPORT_OBJECT (within Forms) for a running job?. Again, which privileges are required?.
    Thanks in advance ....!

    Sure, No problem.
You have two options actually - forgot to mention the other alternative.
1.) Oracle HTTP Server (OHS) - this will block any attempt to showjobs based on IP Address/Domain Name/etc....
That means however, you'll have to firewall off port 9002. But most my customers do this anyway - as reports are commonly accessed via OHS.
In $ORACLE_INSTANCE/config/OHS/ohs1/moduleconf/reports_ohs.conf, add the bolded text to your conf file. You can do a individual or ranges of IP addresses/hostnames/fully qualified domains. Consult Google or Oracle HTTP Server documentation on deny/allow rule syntax.
    <Location /reports/rwservlet/showjobs>
    SetHandler weblogic-handler
    WebLogicHost hostname
    WebLogicPort 9002
    Order deny,allow
    Deny from all
    Allow from 10.1.1.10
    </Location>
2.) WLS_REPORTS solution. This lets you password protect the showjobs screen.
    - Locate and backup your reports server's rwserver.conf - i'd make sure its the right one. As a lot of people can get confused as by default Reports comes with 2 reports servers.
    - Open rwserver.conf
    - Add the following parameter in between the "<queue maxQueueSize ..." tag and "<pluginParam name="mailServer" value="%MAILSERVER_NAME%"/>" tag:
    *<identifier encrypted="no">username/password</identifier>*
    - replace username/password for your actual username/password combo you want to use. Save your changes.
    - Reboot the reports server process - if you use a reports server that runs in OPMN, make sure you reboot your OPMN Reports server process as well.
    - when you try to access show jobs, it should return an access deined. To access showjobs. add "?authid=username/password" to the end of your URL to access the page.
For more info on this: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E14571_01/bi.1111/b32121/pbr_strt001.htm#sthref63
Both options arent exactly elegant but they work :)
    Thanks,
    Gavin

  • How to Check Report Server Service

    Hi Friends,
I have installed Report 6i on NT - Report server and Report Developer on my PC and am running Forms on web successfully , but when I call a report from the web form (thru Run_Product) I am facing problem to see the report output in the browser (report made recently in Report 6i). The report runs well as a standalone in the previewer.
Can anybody tell me how to check whether the Report Server process running or not I mean whats its name and also whether the Report Server is installed as a service or not how to check ?
    Thanks in advance.
    null

    Hi SQL_By_Chance,
Based on my experience, you can use ReportingService2010.FindItems Method or ReportingService2010.ListChildren Method to return items from a report server database or SharePoint library that match the search criteria or get a list of children of a specified
folder. And then judge whether the item exists. For the details, please refer to the link:
    Report Server Namespace Management Methods.
For the second question, you can read the RDL as XML using .NET in local machine. For the more information, please see the thread:
    http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/f64b3071-ffb5-40b6-8529-49b5d9fe159a/what-apis-are-available-for-reading-rdl-files.
When you read the data source item, you can set the data sources for an item in a report server database or SharePoint library using ReportingService2010.SetItemDataSources Method. Please follow the link:
    ReportingService2010.SetItemDataSources Method
    Hope this helps.

    Hi cbazrm,
According to your description, you add an external assembly to display barcode in your report. It works properly in developing environment. But it throw the above error after deploying onto report server. Right?
Based on the error message, the report server side doesn't have the assembly added, so it can't use the assembly to render the barcode.
In this scenario, we should copy the AgeAssembly.dll to the “C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSRS10_50.MSSQLSERVER\Reporting Services\ReportServer\bin” folder then drag and drop the assembly to the C:\Windows\assembly too.
