Restore without the new datafile??

We have a full backup (Veritas) of the database on sunday.Db is in archive log mode.
AFter the full backup we created a datafile and it is not backed up.
Now if we restore this backup how will it find this new datafile?
Though the control file has this information, as we will restore the backup from sunday
the control file of sunday will not have this information.
So how do we proceed?

Like Madrid suggested, you need to create an empty datafile as place holder for the missing datafile,
For example, assume that the datafile ?/oradata/trgt/users01.dbf has been damaged, and no backup is available. The following statement re-creates the original datafile (same size) on disk2:
ALTER DATABASE CREATE DATAFILE '?/oradata/trgt/users01.dbf' AS
'/disk2/users01.dbf';Then you can start recover the database.
Assuming you have
1. All archived log files written after the creation of the original datafile are available
2. The control file contains the name of the damaged file (that is, the control file is current, or is a backup taken after the damaged datafile was added to the database)

I backed up my ipad to the cloud as it had a broken screen so I swaped it out for a new one and now I cant restore because the new Ipad has IOS 6 and my back up is 6.1!  This is what I get for buying an Ipad twice in a week because of a broken screen? $500 the first buy and then another $299 plus tax for the swaped out one that I can't restore with my backup data.

I assume that you will have to set up as new since it will not let you restore from the backup. Then after you set it up, you can restore from the iCloud backup. The backup should not disappear be use you are setting this device up as new. Your backup should still be in iCloud.
However, after you activate the iPd and update the software, you will have to erase the device in order to restore from the Cloud backup, that is the only way to get to the iCloud backup.

  • HT4859 If I got a new iPhone and backed up the data from the old one, it should show up once the new one is set up right? Does an "incomplete" status mean it did not back up and can not be restored to the new iPhone?

If I got a new iPhone and backed up the date from the old one, it should show up once the new one is set up right?
And does an "incomplete" status on iCloud mean it can't be restored to the new iPhone?
    Help please

What I mean is still track my stolen one. I don't know if this will make sense to you but I'm thinking that if I restore the back up data on this phone..on my stolen phone it will like forget the icloud account or something and think this phone is the stolen one so when I go to track the stolen one, it will show that phone as the one I have now because I restored the back up from that phone.

  • I changed my apple id password are my imessages still there and can they be viewed without the new password?

i changed my apple id password are my imessages still there and can they be viewed without the new password?

If you want to change your iCloud ID or password on your phone go to Settings>iCloud and tap Delete Account, then sign back in with your updated information.  Note: this only deletes the account and any synced data from your phone, not from iCloud.  Provided you are signing back into the same account and not changing accounts it will be synced back to your device when you sign back in.

  • Restoring without the AC adapter?

Well, Vista corrupted my 4G Photo iPod when I unwisely decided to split it with Ubuntu. I lost about 12GB of music, but I've managed to get most of it back.
But now, I have to restore the iPod in order to put these new songs on there. I did so today, and now I have a bit of a problem. I lent my adapter to a friend who subsequently had it stolen from him in Cancun. Because I need to plug it in to the AC adapter in order to finish the process, I'm pretty much left hanging. I'd rather not go out and buy the adapter, as it is quite expensive. Is there no way to complete the process without the adapter? I have no other USB devices that perform a similar function.
    Thanks,
    Hemlock

Try inserting the USB plug only part way into the USB port. The +5V and Ground lines are a bit longer than the data lines, so when you plug them in, they make contact first. If you only plug it in part way to connect just those two lines, you can sometimes fool the iPod into thinking it is on a charger.

  • IPhone 4 won't download latest version of itunes or the OS or safari, and it won't let me restore without the latest version of itunes. Can you say circle??

    Help!
I synced my iPhone 4, but it keeps getting the red exclamation points and an error message when I try to download the latest software. And, it won't let me restore the phone without the latest software. I'm stuck.
Then, this morning, the phone locked up completely. I got it to turn off finally, by holding down the power button and home button at the same time for more than 10 seconds. But still no luck with the software download.
It's Thanksgiving, and can't go to Apple.
My phone is my only telephone (no home phone), and I use it to keep track of two email addresses (personal and work). So I'm anxious to have it fully operational.
    Suggestions? Thanks!!!

one can't update itunes or safari seperate on the iphone those 2 are a part of the ios update
you need to update your computer and then update your phone
or if you have ios5 I guess you can update from settings

  • We want to purchase a new iPhone but don't want to lose the text messages on that phone.  Can they be uploaded and then restored onto the new phone

we plan on buying an iphone 5 but don't want to lose the text messges we have on our iPhone 4s.   is there a way to upload the texts and then download them onto the new phone

Text messages are included in your iPhone backup.  Before switching over to the new phone, back up the old one, then restore this backup to your new phone.  That will transfer text messages, along with other data and settings, as well as your apps and other purchased media.  More details here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2109.

  • I want to update my ios in ipad 2, message tells me to back up or lose. I don't have icloud and I can't get it without the newer version of ios. How can I backup without icloud?

I want to update from ios 4.3 on my ipad 2. When I connect to itunes(newest version is installed) on pc, and attempt the update, I get a message to backup , or l will lose items purchased on the ipad. I don't have icloud yet, because when I try to add it to my ipad, I am told I need the newest version of ios. So it's a vicious cycle! I tried to buy itunes match, and I wasn't able to do that either! I have downloaded books, and songs on ipod that aren't able to be in my itunes library from CDs. What should I do and in which order, to protect my stuff from getting lost with the update?

Backup with iTunes. If iTunes is asking you if you want to backup, say yes to that and it will backup your iPad. Have you ever synced with this computer before?
My boilerplate response for anyone that wants to update the iOS.
What you should do anytime that you update the device is to transfer purchases from the iPad into iTunes - File>Transfer Purchases - and you should backup the iPad as well. When you update the update the device, if something goes wrong, you can restore from the backup.
However, iTunes should ask if you want to backup before you update, but just in case create the backup yourself before you update. The backup contains your app data and settings - along with other items - so make sure you backup first.
If you have any other important files, you may want to transfer them to your computer as well, prior to the update.

  • If I back up my ipod  touch 5th gen and restore, will the new copy be exactly the same?

I want to update my ipod to ios 8, but ther is not enough room. I am not willing to delete apps, so I figured that I would backup and restore after the update, which I have never done, and I was wondering if the restore would save everything, like game data and folder locations, so it would be like it never changed. If someone could please clarify, that would be great

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps and other iTunes purchases will be automatically downloaded. Non-iTunes purchases like music from CD will be restored. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

  • Restoring without the computer

Been having some serious problems with my two day old ipod. i am sure a complete restore would completely reverse the trend. every time i run updater it thinks for a minute then turns to the typical blue pc window as opposed to its silver mac counterpart and stops responding. when this happens the updater screen also goes blank. i get the folder and ! icon on my ipod now and have tried to restore it in disk mode as well as in regular mode. neither gives me any success. please help!

Sounds like it can't find a valid system and can't write a new one.
I suggest you take it back to the shop.

  • How to restore from an incremental backup when new datafiles are added

    1) Source - We have a base backup and then take differential (LEVEL 1) backups every day. Due to business needs, new datafiles keep added daily in the database. So you will see an incremental backup having new datafiles that got created after the LEVEL 0 backup.
    2) Destination - We want to restore this database in the destination host "continiously".
    a) I first restored from the BASE FULL - LEVEL 0 . This was successful (restored and recovered, but did not OPEN the database)
    b) But restoring a LEVEL 1 now on top of the already restored LEVEL 0 makes the restore start all over again if there are NEW DATAFILES added after the LEVEL 0 backup in the source database.
This is not a problem when no new datafiles are added/modified between the "BASE" and "LEVEL 1" backup.
So how do you "just restore only the new datafiles" instead of "starting from BASE LEVEL 0 restore" again " ?
    -Thanks
    Srini

    Hi Srini,
So how do you "just restore only the new datafiles" instead of "starting from BASE LEVEL 0 restore" again " ?The recovery process after the restore should add the newly created datafiles on the destination host.
Can you check by querying v$datafile in mount mode and post the output?
    Regards,
    Tycho

  • Iphone 3GS was dropped and will not turn on or respond to USB connection.  Is there any way to extract the data off when it is not responding so that I can restore to my new phone?

The phone is physically intact, but you can see the LCD is cracked behond the glass. I have tried plugging it in, tried putting it on the charger, and resetting it using the off and home buttons, bit response. I don't need the phone to work, but I do need to be bale to back it up in order to restore to the new phone.  Is there any way to extract the data or back up the hard drive without repairing the phone?  Just curious what my options are before I spend cash trying to fix the phone and find out there was another way to get the data.  Any thoughts here or should a good repair shop being able to create a backup somehow?

Im not going to be much help because I don't know of anything else to besides take it somewhere that fixes electronics and see if they can get it off some how maybe if you take it to an apple store they can do something to get your information.

  • The "app store" did not restore on my new 4s.

Yesterday I got a new "replacement" iphone 4s.  Left the Apple store prematurely before I realized the "App store" had not restored to the new phone.  I was able to update to 7.0.4 yesterday.  However, no app store can be found.  How can I get it on my phone without going back to the Apple store?

The App store is a native iOS app. It cannot be deleted. Check in all of the folders on your device. You can also do a search and see where it is on the device. Try a reset. Hold the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release. If that doesn't do it, then go to Settings>General>Restrictions and see if you have Restrictions turned on. If you still cannot locate it, then go to Settings>General>Reset>Reset Home Screen Layout.
