Review area for Sequence quiz
I am having trouble with the sequence quiz review box. I have
8 questions to be put in correct order - if the questions are
answered incorrectly, there is insufficient space in the review box
to display the correct order. Does anyone have a solution for this
problem?
Sorry Christine, for letting this thread slip through the
cracks. Many posts get too many (differing) answers, but somehow
this one fell off everyones radar.
Okay, yes, *size* can mean either the physical size in
pixels, or the number of slides in the project. In you case, I was
referring to the pixel size because i was wondering if you had made
a mini-movie which did not have room enough to display the answer
during review. By the way, 790x555 is a very good size to work
with.
But you have probably indicated the right answer for
yourself. Your correct answer(s) are wordy, and I am sure that is
your problem. Have you tried, in editing the Question-slide, to
grab and drag the *area* for the review answers? It can be
manipulated, but only to a degree. That is one of the reasons I
seldom use any question format that requires lengthy typing to
complete the answer.
There is not necessarily a maximum number of characters
acceptable, but there is only so much room to display, or *review*
those answers.
Have a great day. I will try to pay better attention next
time. LOL!

Adobe Captivate 6 problem with Review area text on Quiz results page
Hi,
I am using Adobe Captivate 6 and I have a test at the end of my project with the built in 'Quiz results page' at the end.
However, the standard 'review area' provided always seems to play up for me. I have changed the 'quiz results messages' through the preferences and changed the font of the review area, but everytime I play my project the message displayed is in a different font that I did not set and the size is so large that the sentence goes off the screen. It has done this on numerous projects.
I have changed the font of the review area and it shows up on my normal view, but everytime I preview the project or publish it, the font changes back to a strange default.
Does anyone know how I can fix this?
Thank you.Hannah,
That is a very well-known bug in the last Captivate versions... if you screen these forums you'll find multiple threads complaining about it. Some fonts will work, I think Calibri works (not all styles however) and all the other fonts revert to Times New Roman. I'm a bit puzzled that you call it a 'strange default'.

Rick,
What is the purpose of the Review area on the quiz slide?
Most of the time, I shrink it very small and out of the way. What
can I use it for?
AngieHi there Angie
Just a note here. While I do tend to be prolific with
answering and responding to forum posts, there are many folks here
that help other than me.
As for your question, here is how it works. When you have a
quiz with question slides, you have correct and incorrect answers
for each question. You also have an ability to enable the user to
perform a review of the quiz. So once the questions are finished
and they see the results screen, if you have allowed reviewing,
there should be a button on that slide that allows them to review
the questions. When clicked, they are transported to the first
question. The Review area is where they see the messages pertaining
to the question.
Does that make things clearer? If not, post back with where
things are still hazy and one of us will try to 'splain it better.

Review area on Question Slides
Good morning,
I'm creating several question slides and on each one, a grey
"review area" keeps being displayed. What is this used for from a
learner perspective and if I don't want it, how do I get rid of it?
I've checked each of the Question tabs but can't find anything to
deselect.
Thanks for your help,
HelenHi Helen
Let's say you have a True/False question with a Review Area.
You take the quiz and on the Results slide, you see a button
labeled "Review Quiz". If you click the button, you see a table
listing:
Your answer: B
The correct answer is: A
Of course, what you see here will vary based on choices.
If you want to turn off the Review Area, click Project >
Quiz Manager... > Quiz Settings tab and DE-select the option
labeled "Allow user to review quiz".

My Review Area on my quiz Results slide is not word wrapping, am I missing a setting? - I'm on Captivate 5.5
I don't remember in which version it was fixed, did log a bug report. It is OK in 7.

Captivate 7, sequencing quiz question, answers are not reshuffled
Hello,
I have made a quiz using Cp7. The questions are all sequencing questions. The first time around, the answers are shuffled, as one would expect. Then the quiz-taker puts the answers in the correct order. However, the following times the quiz-taker does the quiz, the answers aren't shuffled! So if the quiz-taker gets Question 1 right the first time, when he or she tries the quiz again, the answers for Question 1 are in the right order when the question first opens.
Does anyone know what's going on here?
Thank you. Marvin DuBoisThank you again. And yes, I should make a formal request.
I might just mention that I've found something of a work-around. (This won't be news to you, but others in the same boat as myself might appreciate this.) Note that this works within a very specific context, so it is by no means a complete solution. But here goes.
We run the Cp quizzes in an LMS (and that means, of course, a specific LMS). The solution works in this context. When making up a Cp quiz, I add a regular (non-question) slide after the score slide. On this slide I put a button that opens a webpage via a URL. And this URL is for the quiz itself--i.e. it is the LMS's address for the quiz. Thus, clicking the button simply restarts the quiz all over again, and this takes care of the randomization issues.
This solution has two major drawbacks:
1.The resume option has to be off.
2.The Cp quiz itself cannot keep track of the attempts at doing the quiz (since with each new retake, the counting restarts at '1').
I don't like having to do without the resume function. But in our particular case, the second issue isn't all that important. The LMS itself tracks the attempts at taking the quiz, so this information is always available both to quiz-takers and to administrators/teachers. (On the score slide itself, I simply remove the fields for the number of attempts.)
At the moment, I'm trying to come up with a solution that would allow us to retain the resume function. So far, no luck, but we'll see.
Best regards,
Marvin DuBois -
Formatting the Quiz Review Area
Is there a way to re-format the font, background, size or any
other appearance aspects in the quiz review area? I know how to
change the messages presented in this area via the Quiz Manager,
but need help with changing the font size, etc.
Speedy reply appreciated - as this is the last touch to a
project due tomorrow. Thanks!Hi pewinggrim and welcome to our community
Unfortunately, there is very little you can do with this.
Pretty much what you see is what you get. Aside from the text, you
can't really control formatting.
Sorry... Rick -
After a quiz can you show the questions and answers for the user to review from passing the quiz
After taking a quiz, is there a way to show the questions and answers for the user to review from passing the quiz.
And the ones who has failed the quiz would be directed to the first slide again to take the quiz over.
ThanksRod
I see that information about adding the review quiz button but on that last slide where it shows results, I want it jump back to slide 1 but it jumps to the first question of the slide. Is there a way around that? -
Review Area issue in Captivate 5 quiz
In testing a quiz I created in Captivate 5, I am finding that the Incorrect and Correct answers in the Review Area are truncated vertically. How can I get this text to show up completely?
The best you can do is use a smaller text font. The Review Area in Captivate 4 and 5 is not very configurable. If you can upgrade to Cp 5.5 it's much improved.

Captivate 5.5 Review message no longer wraps in Review area caption box
Has anyone else experienced this issue? I logged it as a bug when someone else in my company reported the same issue to me. I searched for it on the Internet and didn't get any hits. We tested to see if it was just for converted projects from 4 to 5.5 or for new ones as well. It's not working for new ones. This problem did not exist in version 5.
Basically the text won't wrap so the text displays completely across the screen (no matter what size the Review Area caption size is), cutting off the text at both ends for longer feedback messages.
Workaround: You can work around this issue by forcing a carriage return in your feedback messages by pressing Enter at an appropriate place in the message. You'll probably have to fool around with that a bit to determine the best place. So, here is my workaround:
On the Quiz Review slide, I created two captions, one for passing, and one for failing. I set both of them to be hidden. I then created a conditional Advanced Action called ExamCaption and set one expression to show the Pass Caption if cpQuizInfoPointsscored was above or at my passmark, and set another expression to show the Fail Caption if cpQuizInfoPointsscored was below my pass mark. I also set each expression to hide the other non applicable caption for good measure.
I set the On Enter action to ExamCaption for this slide.
Reading Lilybiri's blog, I also replaced the Captivate Pass/Failure captions with just a space for each, so that nothing is shown.
Only problem is, the captions fade out after 3 seconds, the duration of the slide, despite being set to No Transition. I therefore increased the length of the slide to 60 seconds. If anyone has a better workaround, please let me know.
Hope that helps! -
How to allow user refer back to lecture when they are taking a quiz?
Hi everyone,
I'm new to Captivate and now I am kinda in a dilemma. Thanks for your
time watching my post!
I created a CBL in Captivate 3, the first 10 slides is a lecture and it
is followed by a 10 slides quiz set as SCORM standard.
I want the learner to be able to refer back to the lecture when they
are taking the quiz, I tried to in 2 approaches and they both have
issues in different ways.
Approach 1: "allow backward movement", and "infinite attempts". The
problem with this approach is, when the learner click "review the
quiz" and when they click "back" on the first quiz slide, the whole
quiz will be start all over, the score is flipped back to zero.
Because the quiz seeing this as a new attempt, and the learner is
allowed to make "infinite attempts" as it was configured.
Approach 2: Set "allow backward movement" and allow only "1 attempt".
The problem with this approach is, when the learner is in the middle
of the quiz and refers back to the lecture, the quiz will be
automatically shown as completed. And the learner will not get a
chance to answer those unanswered questions.
So it looks like whenever I let the learner refer back to the lecture
in the middle of a quiz, the quiz will be seen as completed!!! What am
I doing wrong? Is there a better approach that I can "allow backward
movement" and still allow user resume their quiz from where they left
off?
Sorry for the long post, I was not able to express it in a more
concise way.
Any help is really appreciated!!
-DavidWhat you are seeing is the behaviour as-designed in Captivate for quizzing.
Each Captivate movie has a "quiz scope" which begins with the very first scorable object, and ends at the Quiz Results slide. If you enter the quiz scope by starting a quiz slide, then jump back outside the quiz scope, by going back to the main content, Captivate's default behaviour is to freeze the quiz at that point. So when Captivate refers to Allow Backward Movement, it's only talking about backward movement within the quiz scope.
For example, if you get to question 1 but don't answer it and go to question 2, then answer that one, and go back to question 1, you'll still be able to answer question 1. The quiz won't be frozen. However, if you had jumped back to any slide before question 1, your quiz would have been frozen with whatever score you had accumulated at that point.
There may be a workaround you can use to get closer to what you want. Since any scorable object is classified as being part of the quiz, you can add a button on one of the very first slides that the user needs to click in order to advance. Set the properties of this button (or click box) to report a score to the quiz. This makes it part of the quiz scope. Now any content slides that fall after this button slide are also within quiz scope and moving back to them will not have the same effect of freezing the quiz.
Please bear in mind one more aspect of quiz questions: If you answer a quiz question, and then move off the slide (forward or back) that quiz question answer is frozen and cannot be changed unless you Retake the Quiz or relaunch the entire module.
Hope this helps clear up the way things work. -
Size and position of the review area
hi all,
at the end of a quiz, i get the quiz result with score and
review area with text indicating whether i pass or fail the quiz.
For some reason, when i make the review area box smaller, the
text doesen't wrap with the box. In addition, i also bold the text
but captivate doesn't reflect that after i published.
any ideas?
thanks

Hi! I've made a project that only contains question slides.
The last slide is the one with the results. What I want to do is to
print the percentage of the correct answers in the review area at
the bottom of the last slide. I know I can get the percentage, but
I want to print it in a text at the review area, something like:
"Your score was only xy%" when the student failed. thnx in
advance!So, here is my workaround:
On the Quiz Review slide, I created two captions, one for passing, and one for failing. I set both of them to be hidden. I then created a conditional Advanced Action called ExamCaption and set one expression to show the Pass Caption if cpQuizInfoPointsscored was above or at my passmark, and set another expression to show the Fail Caption if cpQuizInfoPointsscored was below my pass mark. I also set each expression to hide the other non applicable caption for good measure.

Adobe Captivate 4/5 Review Area Problem
When reviewing a quiz the message, whether it be the "your answer is correct" or "your answer is incorrect" does not seem to appear where i want it to.
When I move the review area the messages do not seem to move accordingly.
This is the screen for a correct message. As you can see the review message is in a good location.
However the Fail message does not appear in the same area as you can see
I have tried moving the review area around, changing the text size, style and size however this doesnt seem to work.
I have also tried a number of methods suggested on here such as:
Removing the default captions and adding in a invisible text caption. Although this works, it doesnt work if you use a random question slide, nor does it provide the user with the correct answer like the above method
I have also tried to insert an enter before the success message to bring it down one line. This does an satisfactory job but inserts a square in to show the return.
Is there another way this can be resolved? Possibly changing the dreamweaver code?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Review area; I can't edit text per question
I've looked but haven't seen my question (or the solution), so here it is.
This time it is not about editing the review area.
I have a quiz with several multiple choice question, one answer only - although somewhere in the middle there's one with multiple correct answers.
When I double click in the slide on the review area I see the text for the correct answer and the wrong answer.
When I edit this text, it's changed for all the slides/questions. Even though default setting is: apply for this slide only.
What to do?
I've read in the Helpfiles that a changed review area becomes the default for new areas. The problem however is that the changed text is also seen in already existing slides.
I have made my questions by duplicating the first question and then altering the duplicate each time. Could that be the cause?
Hope someone can shed some light. Thanks!Hi there
As you have seen, the Review area is rather generic. It only allows for a single configuration change that appears on all Question slides.
If you feel this should operate on a "Per Question" basis, please consider submitting a Wish Form to ask for it. (Link is in my sig)
Cheers... Rick
