RH7: import HTMLHelp

We have cracked our skulls because of this one, and now we
are afraid that this is just a really dumb question.
Simple scenario (and this also happens with other scenarios
of course):
In RoboHelp 7 HTML:
1) create a new Microsoft HTML Help project
2) create Single Source Layout > Microsoft HTML Help
3) start HTML Help Studio (included in the Toolbox), and open
and extract the CHM file
4) close the project
5) import Microsoft HTML Project
RoboHelp will prompt for a HHP (HTML Help Project) file.
However, RoboHelp itself does not seem to create one, when
inspecting the created CHM file (in Microsoft HTML Help, or after
extracting it).
In contrast, we distinctly recall that at some point in time,
we managed to import some HTMLHelp file succesfully (although the
map keys did not make it, but that is alright).
What are we doing wrong? Can RoboHelp really not even import
its own CHM files?
Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Hi, Pet3689,
The project (.hhp) file isn't compiled into the help file
unless you add it to the baggage, so it's not usually recoverable.
However, the freeware utility KeyTools can generate a fairly close
approximation of the .hhp file when you use it to decompile a help
file, so that may be an option to look at.

  • Can't Import HTMLHelp Project using Robohelp HTML RH8

We have an HTMLHelp project that contains over 1000 HTML pages that are grouped into subfolders under the main project folder. Currently, we use the HTML Workshop to create/maintain the project files and generate the master chm.  The master chm also includes baby chms that are generated using DocX or a home-grown program. Going forward, we want to start using a Help authoring tool . We downloaded a trial version of RH8.  We clicked the Import option to import the project and received the following error: "The parameter is incorrect".  I checked the forum and saw that other people also received this error message but for different reasons. Can you help us move forward so that we can evaluate RH8?  Thanks.

    Welcome to the forum.
Sorry, your post fell into the "mm, take a look at the weekend" category.
I've not seen the problem you report in connection with importing a project but it's not a RoboHelp project you are importing but you are using that option.
You have CHMs so try Reverse Engineering them. See that topic on my site. Try Method 2 first.
There is also a topic on Merging Help and the RH8 version includes merging CHMs.

  • RH7 Importing Word Doc has problems

I'm working on upgrading our company's robohelp version from
5 to 7 and have the free 30 day trial of RH7 to test. One thing
I've noticed happening in RH7 is that certain text areas get
changed from Arial Unicode MS plain to Arial Unicode MS Bold +
Indigo, and I have no idea why. The text itself doesn't change, but
certain areas appear to be randomly changed to Bold + Indigo and
    I'm stumped.

I'm using RoboHelp HTML to import a word document saved in
Word 2003 (external *.doc file). From RoboHelp HTML, I do the
    following:
    1. Click File -> Import... -> Word Document.
    2. Select desired file, click "Open"
    3. At the Import Word Document Wizard screen, I have the
    following items checked:
    Preserve Heading Styles
    Auto-create styles from inline formatting
    Convert references into hyperlinks.
    Convert Table of Contents
Convert Index (Add new keywords to Index file (HHK) radio
    button is selected)
    4. Click "Next" to begin importing the word doc.
    5. At the "Split on Style" window, I check Headings 1-3 and
    click "Finish"
Some of the resulting HTML files appear to have had certain
areas of text set to Bold and Indigo randomly. I can't figure out
why this is happening, so if you have any insight on this, it would
    be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  • RH8 evaluation - Server Busy error when trying to import Word document

    Hi,
I downloaded RH8 trial version. When I try to import a Word document (that RH7 imports with no problem", I get a
This action cannot be completed because the other program is busy. Choose 'Switch To' error message.
It opens the Windows start menu but I can't really switch to anything.
The Word file is not open.
I asked someone else to download and try the same thing and they got the same result.
Any idea how to solve this problem?
Is there a patch that fixes it? Known problems with specific features in Word?
    Thanks.

    Hi Gary Jiang,
Thanks for posting in MSDN forum.
This forum is for developers discussing issues about

Based on the description, it seems that you got an issue when you deploy the code sample. If I understood clearly, I suggest that you contact the author of the code sample from the "Q and A" tab.
Also if you have the question about WOPI, I suggest that you get more effective response from

  • Importing Word 2003 Docs into RH7 project

We currently have RH7 (7.02.001) and use Word 2003. However, we have some groups that are using Window 7. When we try to import a Windows 7 document (.docx) there is no option on the import screen to select a .docx file. Do we need to upgrade to RH8? Is there a workaround in RH (other than saving the .docx as .doc)?

    Hi,
In 7.0.3, you can import .doc and .docx. File | Import | Word document.

  • Importing Word Docs with Images into RH7

    Hi All,
I have a large Word doc which is full of images and text that
I want to import into RH7. I've tried it and tried it, even
converted it to PDF and tried it, but I don't get any of the images
imported. I've discovered the images folder, but there's nothing in
it and, just in case they're hidden(!), I've published and still no
    images.
Can anyone help me with this?
    Thanks!

No I have only been using it since Word 2 days. :-)
Please don't mention the limit of 200 pages with graphics to
my documents which can run to over twice that size.
I repeat the point that if Word is struggling with this
particular document, you cannot expect another application to work
well with the document. RH does import Word documents with many
images, it is something that I have done many times. I think the
problem is something to do with the image type you have chosen
(emz). If you look in the image import dialog you will see that EMZ
is not a listed file type.
Without being able to see your document, it is difficult to
help you. Speak to your management. I regularly receive projects
from people on this forum and nobody has ever had cause to
complain. I would not risk losing the Adobe Community Expert status
by revealing the content to anyone.

  • Importing Word 2003 docs into RH7 HTML

I imported Word 2003 docs into RH7 for HTML and they looked
fine in the WYSIWYG window. However, when I preview the topics in
the Browser, I get HTML code for a dash, quotes and other
characters. It is an incredibly tedious process to try to search
and replace the HTML code in each document. Is this typical of Word
or Word 2003 docs that are imported into HTML, or is this a RH bug?
Does anyone have any suggestions of how to resolve the issue?
    Thanks

Be sure you've downloaded all three RH7 patches (7.0.1,
    7.0.2, 7.0.3).
I think 0.2 is the one that fixed these symbols, but install
    each of them, in order.
    Good luck,
    Leon

  • Importing framemaker documents to RH7

I am trying to import Framemaker documents to RH7, but the
conversion options dialog box as mentioned in RH7 Help, doesn't
appear. Although the chapter gets imported but with its own
    styles.

    Robert,
In the FM Document Settings dialog (Rt-click your document in
the Project Manager and select Properties), go to the Style
    Settings tab.
Under Style Conversion Settings, check "Convert AutoNumber to
HTML list". - That gives you your UL and LI tags.
If you've autonumbered things in FM that you do not want
numbered in RH, click the Select button in the same area. In the
dialog that comes up, you can check those styles for which you want
the numbers ignored. For example, numbered headings wouldn't be
appropriate if you're breaking them into separate topic.

  • How do I import RH for Word WinHelp project into RH7 HTML?

I'm trying to convert a WinHelp project (created by someone
else in RH5 for Word) into a full HTML Help project in RH7, so that
I can build HTML Help or WebHelp outputs.
    I have tried Menu > File > New > Project > Import
tab > select WinHelp Project. In the Wizard, I select the Help
Project to Import, click Next, then select the Output folder. But
there are no Source Documents listed to import. They are visible in
Windows Explorer, but RH7 does not see them. I cannot step Back /
Next or Finish without selecting files, so I can only Cancel and
    try again.
    Any ideas anyone?

    Work-around
I discovered by trial and error that if I open the RH5
WinHelp project in RH7 first, then close it, this adds lots of
other files to the project folder.
Then I can import it into RH7 HTML.
    That solves this question.

  • RH7 (TCS) hangs when importing

I've had RH7 for a few months now, and haven't had a problem
with it. Today, however, I tried the relatively simple task of
importing a FrameMaker document and it froze. Everything else on
the computer was working fine, even FrameMaker. I checked the
memory usage for the program and it was skyrocketing. I tried
moving the files I was using to different drives, including the
harddrive, I tried disconnecting from any networks in case
something was interfering, I tried importing other types of files,
and nothing has worked -- it still freezes.
The files I was working on were brand new - didn't have
anything in them at all, so I can't imagine its a problem with the
    file.
    Any thoughts anyone?
    Kari
Any thoughts as to why this might be happening?

What is the size of the document you are importing? RoboHelp
does a number of things during import, splitting into HTML topics,
conversion of styles, converting images to new formats, mapping
cross references formats to hyperlinks, validating cross references
    and so on.
During the import/live link process, you can go to the
project folder and navigate to the name of the FrameMaker book or
document. RoboHelp creates a folder for each chapter. Don't open
the HTML files. However, if you look at timestamps of the files
being generated, you may realize what is RoboHelp working on.
RoboHelp makes 2 passes of FrameMaker documents, one for
creating HTML files and images etc and second one specifically for
cross references validation and re-generates HTML files for
    updating hyperlinks.

  • RH7 - Topic split (on H1 & H2) ignored after DOC Import

On import of a Word Doc in RH7 - after selecting a new topic on Heading 1 and Heading 2, document imports into RH into a table and as a single file. It was supposed to create new topics for each Heading 1&2. Looking in HTML view of the document, there is a <div class > that I can delete to get rid of the table, but then i still have to create the topics by hand.
I had created a lot of CHMs before this / then RH just started messing up .... including the projects that used to work.

Often the answer to this problem is that someone has created a style called Heading nn but it is not a true Heading style as Word understands it. That should have been overcome by changing the styles to Heading 3 as that is recognised.
Any reason you cannot apply Heading 1?

  • RH8 importing RH7 project

When trying to open a RH7 project in RH8 I get the following
    errors:
    Error in reading RHFrameStyleMappings.apj file

Try renaming the CPD before opening the project.
If that fails, try renaming the CSS and copying the same name CSS from another project, then open the project.

  • Error on Importing Word document into RH7

I am attempting to import Word docs into RoboHelp7.  The first several documents are imported and saved into the project without incident. However, one file causes an error: "An error occurred while trying to save data to : <RH project name> <5>.  The same error occurs each time I attempt to import this particular file; the error message will not disappear when I click on OK and whole project has to be closed.  Thank you.

    Colum,
Thank you for your prompt response.  I tried importing sections of the word document as you suggested, but I was not able to isolate the error. I confess that after repeated errors and shutdowns, I discontinued this troubleshooting, lest it cause any damage to the original project files.
Instead, I opened a new project, and imported the Word doc into that project.   Then I imported these HTML files into my main project. It was not graceful, but the end result is good, with all the links and formatting preserved.
As other Word docs have since been imported into this project without incident, perhaps it was a fluke/bug in this one document.
I appreciate your help in resolving the situation.
    Thank you.

  • Importing a .doc file into RH7 using Word 2010?

They recently upgraded me to Office 2010 here and now I can't import word files (even the older .doc style for Word 97/2003) into RH HTML. I get this error message:
"The Import Word Document Wizard cannot locate a supported version of Microsoft Word.
Please install Microsoft Word 2000 or newer."
I'm assuming this is because RH 7 doesn't support Office 2010? Are there workarounds for this?
    Thanks in advance.

Take a look at the Importing topics on my site as the HTML of the topics created may need some cleaning up.
For the benefit of anyone else, yes you do need a compatible version of Word to import a document that is in .DOC format.
